- MechaZain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16The Donkey Kong box art holds too much power for this world.
- Majorkerina, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15"Greatest" is such a loose term here, it seems.
- Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I've never seen the Resident Evil: Outbreak box art; that was amazing.
- heavierthanaire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10lol, miner 2049er... wtf, rad!
- Akaji, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Digg really is living an eternal September...
- Shrubber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Hmm. Hard to pick my favorite. That's a pretty good list, though. I've never seen that Japanese Castlevania 3 cover before; that's gorgeous.
And another thing: why do the PAL covers for both RE: Outbreak and RE 4 look so much better than the American versions? That's odd. - kufu91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8anybody else think that the myst games had some kickass covers?
- freakgd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7DUGG FOR TOE JAM AND EARL
- fatadamblog, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Diablo 2 and Doom I agree with, the rest can go to hell.
- Skanadian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Duke Nukem 3D and Doom have the best box art of all time.
- Haon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I was thinking the same thing about re4 wii. Had to double check my copy.
- postalblowfish7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4dugg for featuring the DOOM box. greatest PC game cover of all time. period.
- MrHawkins, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Digg down please, accidental double.
- MrHawkins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dugg for MDK. First game I ever played, and I still play it... 10 (or is it 11?) years later. I wish more people knew about it- everybody I talk to pretty much says "MDK? Never heard of it."
- etgoboom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5beamrider... nuff said
- subscriber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3System Shock 2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Systemshock2box ...
- HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I liked the Jade Empire cover, especially the special edition version with the red background.
Black was good if for no other reason than it pretty much sumed up the game... Bullets will be fired. Lots of them. No, really, a lot... hey, let's make that the cover! - z3021017, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Fallout box art is also great
- cypherstream, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Haha Megaman looks NOTHING like the guy on the Megaman 2 cover.
Thanks for the memories. It's amazing to see how everything evolved. - postalblowfish7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2riven especially
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you take a look through one of the websites that provides downloadable covers for movies and games you'll find the artwork varies a lot, and the American version isn't necessarily the best one around. I'm in region 4 so it's interesting to see which countries get better artwork :)
- Me1on, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://www.vgboxart.com/boxes/PSX/9399_chrono_cros ...
The game was awesome, but the box art is only above average. - lovecollective, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3the Resident Evil Outbreak art is the best one there
- zomgwaffles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2mario was beast back in the day, look at those guns
p.s. turtles in time owns - Ocelot13, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5where are teh haloz????
- Gotar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Phalanx, that old guy is the best.
Now there's an idea for a game! A banjo-rhythm based space shooter! - Sefus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yeah, all of the choices in this article are lame except for Castlevania.
*fiixed - HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The cover for H2 was pretty decent, H1 was serviceable, if not memorable. But the people who did the "regular' H3 cover should be stripped of their design degrees, they phoned that one in.
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wish I could say the same for the game itself. I'm a big RE fan, but Outbreak just didn't do it for me.
- Egoist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Several of these were on someone else's "10 worst game box art of all time" article posted here to Digg. Phalanx and MegaMan 2 were definitely on there.
- rabidmonkey1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No Monkey Island!? Blasphemy!! How can you ignore the hand drawn Steve Purcell love?!?
- GlitchEnzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The first cover I thought of was Shadow of the Colossus, so I was happy to see that on the list. ... Also, I forgot how much the Turtles in Time cover kicked ass!
- mattcoady, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The american market is heavily catered towards the Wal-Mart shopper, who'll pick these up based on an instantly recognizable character or eye catching scene. This also true for movies, which is a shame because we usually end up with some appalling mess of faces and explosions.
- MrFisty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wow. Old school DK looks intense.
- Negyxo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What a breath of fresh air. Really interesting and awesome article.
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"And another thing: why do the PAL covers for both RE: Outbreak and RE 4 look so much better than the American versions? That's odd."
You're telling me. I bought RE 4, but all I got was a much more generic, (I think) boring cover. Why did the PAL-buyers get the well-designed artwork? :( - angito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you played it to death on the cube, you'll definitely fall back in love with it on the wii.
- drakenlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You lie, there's no such thing as an accidental double comment. That's a conspiracy thought up by reddit users
- thelegacy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1kings quest would have been nice, especially KQV
- telengard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Bah, where's the artwork for Ultima III and IV. Awesome stuff.
- thelegacy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dugg for diablo II
- drakenlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1'fixed'
*fixed
/grammar Nazi - evox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Doom Box art is the best of all time :)
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd never actually seen that box before, I'm slightly confused about his armour. Why would you wear something with abdominal holes when people are shooting at you :o
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's a lot of PS2 art....and unfortunately I got stuck with the old-school Chrono Cross box. Not nearly as cool.

http://www.cdaccess.com/gifs/shared/front/large/ba ... - KnockoutNerd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I never said the game was bad, one of my favorites but the box art was eh.
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Looks like they went for the art with the most impact, as opposed to the best. The bullets have some impact, but I'm not sure I'd call that the best example of boxed art in the last two years.
- hydroplane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Beamrider RULES. Viva la commodore 64.
- daridave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Seconded. It feels like he just picked up games he liked, not games that actually did have good box art. I've seen better... way better.
- Tejiant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Funny you should mention that. I was just telling my gamer friend how I thought MDK was ahead of it's time. Great Sci-fi aspects, and I liked his arm gun that attached to his head to go into sniper mode. Then he had the retracting "ring parachutes". Talking about me made me nostalgic, so I'm gonna try to look for an old copy of MDK and MDK 2 this weekend.
