- Dgen_X, on 02/21/2008, -0/+5I expect nothing less than flying computers in 2029
- Hipple, on 02/22/2008, -2/+6For everyone that thinks this guy is "a bit of a wacko": He's a lot smarter than you. Also, this article doesn't say much about his presentation besides the conclusions he came to, so it's easy to say he's crazy when you haven't even seen his argument.
Having said that, I'll still be surprised if brain-nanobots are a big thing in 20 years. That doesn't mean he's crazy, but I'll be surprised. - JordanTW90, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4The PS8 bundle will come preloaded with a petabyte HD including all of the classic games including Guitar Hero 7.
- theaceoffire, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3Yeah... exponentially fast.
- KnockoutNerd, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3I want PS9, that commercial got me pumped for the future.
- mywhitenoise, on 02/22/2008, -1/+4We're all going to be dead in 4 years anyway.
- searchdestroy, on 02/22/2008, -1/+3Ray Kurzweil seems like a "bit of a wacko"? For shame. I order you to read "The Singularity is Near" at once. You may disagree with his optimism, but wacko? The guy is brilliant and fascinating.
- theaceoffire, on 02/22/2008, -2/+3Why? Oh noes, its small!
- yohnstoppable, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1Well that's a pretty grim prediction :(
- FreDre, on 02/22/2008, -1/+2Very interesting stuff.
But thinking about nanotechnology gives me the chills, always. - loganhid, on 02/22/2008, -1/+1I can believe every word of this seen as though we've got Flying cars and hoover-boards.
- sipsyrup, on 02/22/2008, -2/+1There's absolutely no way $1000 computers will be that powerful by 2029. Right now the most powerful supercomputers are capable of about 500 teraflops, and it is said that the human brain can process at about 1 petaflop. It will take supercomputers a while to reach 1 petaflop, and even longer to get that power into a $1000 computer.
- sipsyrup, on 02/22/2008, -2/+1damn. i fail at editing.
Top current supercomputer speeds are around 1 petaflop. (IMBs Blue Gene/P)
Brain processing is said to be at 10 petaflop. (Sun systems)
Any ways it will take a while, but I would be surprised to see those speeds in PCs by 2029. Maybe 2039.
Technology is a fast *****, eh? - mywhitenoise, on 02/22/2008, -3/+2There's plenty of serial killers out there who are brilliant and smarter than most people, does that mean I can't label them "crazy"?
L. Ron Hubbard was smart enough to brainwash millions of people into buying into his religion. Smart, but crazy.
