- Nosferotu, on 11/27/2008, -7/+87For what it is, I found this shockingly uninteresting.
- JamesLee007, on 11/27/2008, -2/+56I'd rather see a mountain goat. this is lame.
- Devine122, on 11/27/2008, -1/+47Thats what she said.
- lounsey, on 11/26/2008, -2/+33The "first divorce because of affair with an avatar" has already happened. Makes me wonder what else we're in for!
- wolfshawk, on 11/27/2008, -1/+25Impossible, the world ends in 2012.
- captainsky, on 11/26/2008, -1/+24Holo twins? Virtual skin when I'm 80? I dunno... it's a little hard to swallow...
- Atario, on 11/27/2008, -1/+18Buried for many reasons:
1. Video game/film convergence history starts in 2002, ell-oh-ell.
2. Loads of mispellings.
3. Improper use of .jpg. - isunktheship, on 11/27/2008, -0/+17implying you're 68 now? how'd you find us, sir?
- Dumbledorito, on 11/27/2008, -0/+17I fail to see how "orgasm by e-mail" belongs in "worst case."
Though it does sound a lot like "Transmetropolitan" which isn't a great place for most people. - nkatter, on 11/27/2008, -0/+12this is so dumb.
masturbatory speculation like this isn't news, its geek porn. - D14852001neko, on 11/27/2008, -0/+10Orgasm by email? Audience gets used to violence?
- techobo, on 11/27/2008, -0/+10Crossing fingers for digital x-ray glasses.
- dontfriendme, on 11/27/2008, -1/+10I've got to be honest with you: I have no idea how to read that graph.
- bikewreck1986, on 11/27/2008, -0/+9Well... you can look at it this way; in 12 years, all us geeks will finally get laid by robots. Dreams do come true.
- LumenMelano, on 11/27/2008, -0/+7I agree. Uninteresting and completely absurd. There isn't any consistency to any of those examples. Burying this article for sure!
- dalectrics, on 11/27/2008, -0/+7[BREAKING] Lead clothes sales go through the roof!
- DamnMan, on 11/27/2008, -0/+7"Gaming the Movie" Wasn't that made in the 80s with Fred Savage?
Multi-angle films were a billed feature of DVDs in the late 90s, although that has sense been relegated to porno
Self Destructing DVDs are all over the place already. (~24 hour DVD dye oxidation)
Voice commands for Appliances already exist all be it mostly at the novelty level.
Narrative games? Like D. Myst. Lucas Arts golden age.
Cinematic games? Like MGS. Indigo Prophecy. Gears Of War 1/2. Or ***** lets really reach back there and say Dragons Lair.
While we are on the subject of crappy 90s arcade machines lets not forget Time Traveler http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Traveler_(video_ ...
If your going to "predict" the future make sure it hasn't already happened. - D3koy, on 11/27/2008, -0/+6As long as we keep making "off" switches (or let Dell make the batteries) I'm in...
- inactive, on 11/27/2008, -1/+7So when does Skynet go online?
- lukas88, on 11/27/2008, -0/+6If I ever, EVER hear someone refer to it as "gaming 1.0" or "gaming 2.0," etc: open hand slap
- Rockkybox, on 11/27/2008, -0/+6http://tinyurl.com/4czyxt
- TecChief, on 11/27/2008, -0/+5Didnt this happen on a couple eps of Stargate
- Torley, on 11/27/2008, -0/+5This, the Idiocracy interpretation of the Singularity, is bloated with awkward Engrish and cobbled from the entrails of a lot of Hollywood cliches we've seen over the years. (I wouldn't be so amused if some of it didn't closely resemble Cinco's philosophy from the Tim and Eric Awesome Show.)
"Virtual and real world can't be different any more" — what the HECK does that even mean? I don't want to be around when they coin a buzzword.
"Video tattoos" sounds like a WORST CASE of far-flung spamdung.
You don't need to wait until 2011, "'Minority Report' style air displays" already happened! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLhMVNdplJc
"Audience gets used to violence" is really "US primetime TV".
"First bot gets human"? Is that referring to cross-species understanding, a wild night out on the town, or indentured servitude?
"Orgasm by email" and no mention of realtime teledildonics? I'm going to be a very sad time traveler.
We already have "Avatar cosmetic surgery". It's called "Buying a new skin in Second Life". :p
I can forgive occasional typos, but this sheer abundance of gobbledegook, a Katamari ball of half-baked WFTness utterly spits, then vomits in the face of earnest prognostication. - betheturtle, on 11/28/2008, -0/+5Why is Orgasm by email in the worst case quadrant?
- fcrow, on 11/26/2008, -1/+6Where is the "Avatar commits suicide", "James Bond kills audience", ..
- Krissam, on 11/27/2008, -0/+4did you ever take time to look at the timeframe?
- detcaderr, on 11/27/2008, -0/+4Digg is news? What?
- WhatPeriod, on 11/27/2008, -0/+4http://www.allaboutthegames.co.uk/feature_story.ph ...
First divorce in game - junkneo, on 11/26/2008, -3/+7Its happening.
- KibblesnBitts, on 11/27/2008, -1/+4What I don't like is that the worst case is already happening:
HDDVD and Bluray occurred...granted that went away without much of a fight
In game advertising has already begun....remember obama in Burnout Paradise? (Thank you Dumbledorito)
granted the margin of error is a few years, but still - Paulorific, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3A lot of the things at the end had nothing to do with gaming. This should have simply been a "future thing".
- Rockkybox, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3Well the old style would probably still be available, but I wouldn't mind plugging myself in to actually be in the game
- Sil369, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3carefull, it's a trap, etc etc
- WayOutWest, on 11/27/2008, -1/+4"The Singularity" is upon us.
- Slade605, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3As much as I would like to see this, Healer classes in WoW would drop off completely.
- viper001, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3It seems as though absolutely zero research went into the chart, with as many future-sounding topics thrown into the mix (many of which have already happened). It's also a classic case of "too much too soon", which many futurists suffer from (e.g. all the people predicting flying cars by the year 2000, 50+ years ago).
2 or 3 console cycles from now will just be better graphics, sequels galore (mario, zelda, MGS, Final Fantasy, etc), and shinier boxes for us to buy. We won't we jacking our cerebral cortex into the matrix, or anything as outlandish. Keep in mind that unless in extreme circumstances (like the hail mary by nintendo that was the wii), console manufacturers will be taking as few risks as possible. - Poseur117, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3I thought I read on Digg about a week ago that Minority Report-style displays had already been done.
- mnortei, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3THANK YOU
- 4NDr01D, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3i dont think gaming and film have anything to do with the singularity
besides interface and what you see in your minds eye
innovation will come from computer power, AI, and nano-tech - kasperu, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3"80% of all entertainment is EA produced"
oh what a horror. - Locke23, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2I'm with you david..
- Sraser, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2The idea of film and gaming is spot on. The critical language for both of the industries are becoming more and more alike all the time.
- jazino, on 11/27/2008, -3/+5That graph is retarded. It is just a bunch of dreamed up ***** of which some of it will be vaguely similar in real-life to what was predicted here.
Predicting 2012 as the year a game wins an Oscar, why don't they just predict what game it will be while they are at it.
Weak. - Dumbledorito, on 11/27/2008, -1/+3That margin of error includes Obama's ads in "Burnout Paradise," not GTA IV.
Besides, it's not like there weren't ads in there already; There were trucks everywhere with the Gilette logo on them and billboard ads for CompUSA (right before they went bankrupt). - diskoh, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2I'm going to organize the first Gilm Festival.
- foolosophy, on 11/28/2008, -0/+2The middle line says Base Case, not Best Case.
- gopy, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2YES. Was about to say the same thing.
- Rockkybox, on 11/27/2008, -1/+3I went to try and check your age, anyway you joined on my birthday
- identitymatrix, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2"First game-virus" - already happened. Its called SecuROM.
- bonjourmr, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2Uwe Boll
