- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I just wanted to re-establish the fact that all the prices I listed by the titles are all based off actual closed eBay auctions INCLUDING shipping.
I didn't just pull the prices off the top of my head. I personally researched every title on eBay via the closed auction search and did determined the average closed price plus shipping for the games that had at least one bid. On the more popular titles, some people may have gotten an even better deal, but I wanted the prices to reflect what you could pick the game up for without too much effort.
EBGames and Gamestop may occasionally have the games cheaper since you're not paying shipping, but in most cases, you will be paying more there.
Amazon will usually be a bit cheaper, but sometimes you can find surprising deals that are cheaper than the typical eBay listing.
I hope you guys find this guide useful and thanks for the Diggs! - nymphetamine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Don't forget about Amplitude (sequel to Frequency). You could probably get that for a few bucks too.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Awesome selection!
I noticed there is a PS1 piece on there too:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sony/ps1/2007/06/cheapest-ps1-games.html
All of this stuff it probably better than what's on the PS3's main library :) - nymphetamine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I highly recommend Bombastic; It's a cute little puzzle game. Such a great deal for less than $10.
Some others I'd recommend, but only if you can find them: Ico, Rez, and Vib Ribbon. - evozero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Great list for those who are unfamiliar with the good older titles. Some other relatively cheap ones i would add are Dark Cloud 2, Frequency (from Harmonix, the creators of Guitar Hero), SSX, Kengo and Armored Core 2.
- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Eeh -- I should have proofread my post.
I meant Amazon is typically a bit more expensive. - GunbladeVIII, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Seeing this list reminds me of how many great games I've played on my PS2, but also how many great games I've still yet to get to. Between my Wii games and a few selections from the cheap and high-quality PS2 back library from this list, it's almost effortless waiting for the PS3 to come down in price and for its games library to fill out with quality titles.
- tripleplay369, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The PS2 is a college student's best friend. There's nothing better than grabbing a great classic game for 10 bucks. Great list.
- motang, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Sweet list, I have had or played each game on the list at one point and still own quite a few of them to this day.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4or you could stop and think before you post. deleting comments causes all sorts of problems with the continuity of the discussion.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Devil May Cry 2 is not worth my time.
- faithlessphil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It is too bad you can't find Okami for $10 yet. That game is destined for bargain greatness.
- artofwar420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't think it's the MAIN reason, but one of the reasons, like lack of good games. This however will change soon, very soon. Hell, Warhawk is awesome as can be, being a multiplayer only game, the boxed copy comes with a nice bluetooth headset. I am having so much fun with that right now, sooo much fun.
- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, I priced those games -- they are still pricier than I would like.
- mobislink, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That is a PS1 game
- dscomeau, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Think search engine hits.
- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sometimes you can find FFX cheap, but most times on eBay (see my pricing guidelines above), it usually sells above $15 with shipping for a good, clean copy.
- PerfectVictim, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Devil May Cry 2?
...
Dude. - KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm in Canada. No matter what I order, if it's from anywhere BUT here, it'll be aove $30.
Effin' shipping. - akshay626, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I doubt it. Ten years from now you'll see it going on ebay for $200-300.
- spasticjedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Beyond Good and Evil and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time were amazing. Glad to see they're on the list. Really, really great games, I bought them when they first came out, and spent every spare moment for three months playing them.
- racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just because it has lousy sales, doesn't mean it's not worth getting.
It's one of the most under-appreciated games of the last couple of years. - dsmx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The main reason why the ps3 is selling poorly is because of the ps2. The ps2 is cheap, the games are cheap, the game library is massive, you can play games online and it's small and discreet. What more could you possibly want in a console?
- kingp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I know I play them still on my PS2. Its too bad that Castlevania: SoTN didn't make it on there. That game is awesome!
- joehobbes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If you read the into, he says prices are based on average eBay prices INCLUDING SHIPPING.
- Poi159, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dug! Amazing tittles! Cant belive they are this cheap now.
- modtho, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1Seeing this list reminds me of how many great games I've played on my PS2, but also how many great games I've still yet to get to.
Between my Wii games and a few selections from the cheap and high-quality PS2 back library from this list, it's almost effortless waiting for the PS3 to come down in price and for its games library to fill out with quality titles.
And what about psp games? http://pspgames247.com - racketboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I wanted to include Ico, but it's still much more expensive.
SoC had a higher print run, so there are more copies in the wild. - nutzngum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i walked into a blockbuster and clearly the manager had lost his marbles because there were dozens of older ps2 and original xbox titles for under $10 (Cdn) (previously owned, of course)...and there were 4 copies of SSX Tricky - IMHO the best in the series for it's fun-factor. I'd add the Getaway which you can usualy get for under $20 and despite having a bit of a steep learning curve and NO hud whatsoever, is a really underrated game and worth checking out.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1and it's *****. Have a look for yourself.
- phazon88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I only owned a Gamecube during the last generation, and only now regret not buying a PS2 as well, but I've decided I will get a PS2 and get a hold of a lot of these great games.
- oboredone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the addition of Timesplitters 2. One of my favorites.
If you've never played any of the Timesplitters games, I'd highly recommend giving one a spin. - KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know Ico's pretty hard to come by nowadays, but it's an extraordinary game which'll probably be around, if not under, the $10 price. If you see it for sale somewhere, and don't have it, buy it.
Plus, it's sort of a sequel to the events in Shadow of the Colossus. - Tastykool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Psychonauts and Beyond Good And Evil are my favorites ! Brilliant plot, very good gameplay, just go and play them !
- mcmorrowk, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1the links to amazon and ebay were a great touch. you don't usually see that kind of effort in lists like these.
- caddyalan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was a little surprised to see ChoroQ on the list. Even though I like cute and offbeat games, it didn't sound like it would be interesting for more than a few minutes. I've thus far ignored the game even though it's in the bargain bin.
- dscomeau, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I bought my first PS2 last year and have been enjoying all these cheap classics too. Not hard to see why the PS2 is still a top selling system.
- kingp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How appropriate that I put that in a response to a thread that mentions the PS1 article!
- NeonFire, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1It must of been fixed since it says R&C now./
- TypeEE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Need god of War if it'll come down in price
- bigfatpaulie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Needs Hitman 2 on there. Blood Money's the best in the series IMO but if we're under price constraints...
The Legacy of Kain series is pretty badass too...and cheap. - thejoshbennett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0My faves from that list:
Jak And Dextar
Viewtiful Joe
MGS3
Psychonauts - sonicjosh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ratchet & Clank, R&K Going Commando, R&K Up Your Arsenal : about $7 each
K?!!
tis not ratchet & klank its is ratchet and clank, clank with a C not a K - mb309, on 12/31/2008, -1/+1I wonder how much you will make using the affiliate links. Good job sir.
- Enternal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Oooh!!! Klonoa!!! Anyway, although Klonoa 2 is not as good as the original Klonoa, it's still pretty fun to play although the idea of playing as a very cute bunny/cat thing can be a turn off for some people. Not only is the main character cute, EVERTHING is quite cute as well. Klonoa has such a high school when it came out though, a perfect 5/5 in the Playstation Magazine.
- oboredone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0... ignore this ... I wish digg had a delete comment button ....
- kingp, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3damn comment system...digg THIS down too please
- bloominoctober, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I find it funny that Psychonauts showed up on both this list and the list of biggest video game flops.
- SigmaDraconis, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4Yes, it was a cheap go at the PS3. But that doesn't make it any less true.
- vinht426, on 10/10/2007, -9/+7I was going to give you a digg for appreciating the classics, but buried you cause you just HAD to take that same old cheap stab at the ps3... its been done, move on
