- GreatGrizzly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15after getting to a level where you have full deadric armor and a deadric war hammer, it starts to get boring. Also considering the fact that the dungeons and whatnot are all nearly identical, there really is no drive to explore them.
Though I applaud the makers for the detail. - FrankHowley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14http://www.oblivionmap.net/
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11nice, but
WARNING this is linking right a a large jpg this server will go down.
here is a mirror: http://imagemirror.com/showpic.php?pic=oblivioncyrodiil0bq.jpg - johnnyhay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10All the 50+ gates are generated randomly. Let's just say that if you walk 3 minutes straight you'll find discovery more than 1.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Runescape? What the *****? Are you 11 years old or something?
/I'm going to assume you were making a joke :-) - uberlord, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7It has TONS and TONS of stuff. It's just the hundreds dungeons are repetitive, and you really can't enjoy yourself for more than 200 hours or so with the main quests and guilds... and, of course, you can't download a mod for free from TESsource.com, because you're on dial-up and better graphics, new armor and weapons, houses, mannequins, quests, items, cheats and the like will take too long to download?
But, I'm going to have to say that the game is not at it's best on the 360, as the MAIN attraction of Oblivion to me is the construction set and modding community. - brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The controls are clearly set up for a hack and slash class. I tried being a magic user and switching spells is pain.
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6MrESaulved - Not everyone has the PC version =p I can however buy $5 horse armor from the Live Market Place!!!!
- ts8lemonade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow this is amazing. This really showcases the astounding attention to detail and amount of work they put into making Oblivion. It's literally going to take me hundreds of hours to experience all this game has to offer.
- djchester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The caves bored me to death and now it's proved. There is an overweight of caves in the game.
- iSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://www.nirnroot.planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/phpnuke/modules.php?name=Obliv-o-Map
- popothebright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5(I mean does anyone really care if the game is big, when the levelling system is automatic and the areas all look the same?)
That's like fan's of Elite (and old space merchant simulation) claiming that it was the biggest universe in gaming. Uh.. ya... Millions of nearly identical starsystems are easy. Give me a game 1/4 of the size where everything is unique and then we're talking. Morrowind felt infinitely larger. - inactive, on 11/08/2007, -2/+6Oblivion is far from a simple "hack and slash" game if you have an attention span longer than five seconds.
- punchingjudy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Egad, I apparently never even scratched the surface of that game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@Greatgrizzly
You would not feel that way if you had modded Oblivion with any number of the most clever and game-enhancing mods that any game engine has allowed to date.
You can modify textures, add quests, add or modify any bit of new item or magic, make things more pretty, or less. Add more people, change combat routines, reinvent the level-up system, change the size of male character's hips, race snails, put shutters on windows, watch cats chase rats, or ride Unicorns to the Vineyard.
Oblivion is as creative as the mods you weave into it. - Cheeze_Head, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Better would be to have the locations in numerical order.
There's your "If anyone can find a better one, please post it here." - Iroxorsju, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I never realized how much there was to do in the game. I never beat the game myself, i got bored. It got to repetitive for me. Did anyone actually beat the game?
- bigturns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@taintparty, could not agree more. why there weren't twice the number of creature types (given an otherwise perfect game) baffles me.
- riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I replayed this game three times with different character classes (playing warrior just makes the game too easy) since it's release and still haven't finished this game... mostly because nevermind how many mods you install to 'enhance' the experience (which you shouldn't have to if the cdeveloper took some time to improve the console port for PC) this games get's repititive very fast.
BTW, I recommend installing 'Oblivion Overhaul' mod. It's quite big, but it's worth it, and will prob make you want to replay the game. - SintraKikuta, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Why are all the numbers telling you what the things are screwed up? :/
- lotuseater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I played about 15 hours of Oblivion and felt like I had experienced everything there was to experience. Once you've been in one Ayleid ruins you've been in them all.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Get Oscuro's or Fransesco's before playing this game. If you don't do so prepare to be bored to death, except if you like an RPG that feels and plays like an action game, ie there is no loot reward , there are no challenging opponents. I miss the times in Morrowind when exploring a cave was actually interesting since you could find an uber sword that could change the whole game to you, -thanx to Oscuro- bring this back to Oblivion or don't play it.
- gonknet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I also like the UESP map that uses the google maps API:
http://www.uesp.net/oblivion/map/obmap.shtml
The best thing I think is you can search for landmarks. - rumor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nvm
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Edit: We also need a faster (and easier) way to make them."
I think the main problem with Oblivion probably was the systems they had in place that just allowed to to knock out dungeons and prwdy landscapes on mass. Thats why theres 1000 hours of repetitive dungeons and about 6 hours of plot.
Personally I would have loved the game to be set in 1 town with all the effort put into actual detail, i mean real detail like story not the pointless Oblivion detail where tables in dungeons have pointless items sitting on them, that kind of crap should be left up to random generators to do, not the main focus of the game. It seemed like there where more types of generic random items that amour and weapons combined. - kmusser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4this could be showing my ignorance, but i wish there were gates to oblivion on this map. Dugg anyways and saved the image b/c this is really cool regardless.
- Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Same, after I had my Glass armor it wasn't as interesting anymore. As well as all the stupid similiar Oblivion Gates.
MrESaulved, thanks for the tip. I think I'll play it again in a month or 5, armed with mods, and finish the Thief quests which were bugged for me. - bigturns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2BTW, the free (for the 360 folk) Mehrune's Razor download does offer some interesting level design. Um, and it's free. Oh and you get a sweet dagger.
- PeTeRZz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, and i thought I discovered a lot
Image http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/2462/oblivioncyrodiil0bqti0.jpg - uberlord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's amazing, I was actually just about to leave a comment saying that all we need is a Java version with on/off landmarks.... I saw something like that for Morrowind. (IMO, a better game)
- kmusser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ohh, well that makes since. The http://www.oblivionmap.net/ shows a bunch of locations, but if I understand correctly those are just the locations they could appear perhaps. Either way, I started to get really lazy about closing gates since they're all so similar and began to work on the Dark Brotherhood and Mages' Guild quests.
- gommle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why not use BTmod and this map as the in-game map?
That way you can see where all the places are, until you actually find them so they get placed on the map. - lotuseater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the many things I hated about Oblivion was that they used tilesets to create every indoor area. Every tile fits into other specific tiles and there is absolutely no room for creativity or variation.
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do any of these maps have any expansions? I don't see the Priory of the Nine, unless it was Fort Black Boot.
- gommle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bought the strategy guide. It's worth it.
I don't use it often, since most quests are extremely easy. But some are really hard, like the quest you get when you're expelled for the Mages Guild. - mjar81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Took me about 80 hours to beat all the missions with exploring in between... i even did the vamper missions. Great game... probably the best i've ever played, but the 360 loading times were horrendous.
- bcardarella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This just goes to show you how detailed Oblivion is. I have completed every achievement in the game, completed all of the downloadable quests and even then I am seeing places on this map I have yet to visit.
My only gripe about the game is that once you master sneaking it becomes incredibly easy. Even though it isn't cheating, in many ways it almost is. - Odjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish you could use a Find feature on that thing. That would make it the best.
- shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I disagree. Having them in numerical order works well if you find a location on that map and want to know what it is... but normally you're going to know the name of the location and want to find it on the map.
- Machismo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is excellent! Thanks for posting that!
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Obliv-o-Map is definitely the best Elder Scrolls Oblivion map.
- kmusser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow, that owns too, I sort of prefer the jpeg though just because its quicker to load for those quick alt-tabs.
- PEteandPEte, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1uber, i too agree that Morrowind was a better game, just as deep, controls were infinitely better (and as i played it for the PC, better controls)
i own Oblivion and its a great game, its just that i find myself going back to Morrowind for the gameplay - magicjames92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1its called a guide book
- fuckingusername, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice post but the game is boring if it isn't modded
same ol same ol
instead of 3 things to kill when you walk around, and all the caves look the same the developers should have gave this game more thought. Same thing about the first one . People complained but they never listened. - ufonacious, on 10/30/2007, -2/+1Wow. Kind of makes me want to get back into Oblivion. Oh wait, I remember why I stopped playing... I need a new computer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Did you use hotkeys, by any chance?
- taintparty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Wow that's great. So now when I fight the same 10 enemies in a cave, Oblivion plain, or field, I will not be lost.
You think for all of the graphic work that went into this game, they would have made it fun or at least included some variety. - Arowin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I made this map a while ago when I was playing it. I made through about 3/5 of the game
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=343803517&size=l - brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Agreed. I had hopes for the game but it is just a hack and slash game with some pretty graphics. Frankly I'd prefer more cartoony graphics if it meant the content wasn't so dull. After a few hours of play I wanted nothing more than to stop playing. It was just so damn boring.
