- Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21If Maria Sharapova actually plays Samus, you can shoot me.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Shouldn't Lara Croft count as three characters? You can't leave out "the twins."
- noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16There's more than enough reason to shoot him right now.
- Lux7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16If Maria Sharapova actually plays Samus, I'll shoot someone.
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Hah. So true. Too many pretty ladyboys in those recent FF games. I was watching a friend play FFXII and commented on how this one girl with the earrings was cute and my friend was like: "Dude! That's the prince!" and I was like "WTF?"
I think that the first Square game that really went crazy with the fruity, efeminate characters was Vagrant Hearts. - gamemaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Should have capped it at ten to make the list meaningful. I have not even heard of the majority of these. Or you could have titled the article "Every female video game character ever"
- SteaminTmann, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Title should be, the "50 Female Characters in Recent Video Game History". this should really be a top 10, and where the hell is Ms.PacMan?
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -11/+22What about Sephiroth or any of the more recent Final Fantasy lead characters? Aren't those all females?
- Virak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It's amusing how the cons section for Rikku says that "she's off limits" because she's underage, as though it's the only obstacle (or even the biggest one) to sex with fictional characters.
- cresswga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I miss Quistis from Final Fantasy 8. With those glasses she had that intellectual totty look going for her.
- loganhid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7How come Raiden from MGS2 is not on here
- PleaseBeSerious, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yes and it was dugg down appropriately because they simply picked 50 (or 49) female characters out of a hat.
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Right, because Princess Peach is a great female character.
Where would we be without tired damsel-in-distress female stereotypes?
For god's sakes! She always dresses in pink and only seems capable of being kidnapped or begging for Mario to help her!
Maybe somebody will mod Project H.A.M.M.E.R. for Wii where Princess Peach is the main character and wields a two-handed axe instead of the hammer and goes chopping the ***** outta those Koopas and goombas that have always plagued her girly queendom. - qber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+650 was too many. To fill it out they were just taking any female characters from popular video games.
- Izacus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Meh, presonally I'd replace Jaheira with Viconia.
- overbored454, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Oops. Jaheira did make the list at 50. But still no Viconia or Imoen. :(
- Stumblinforward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5wasn't this list on the front page yesterday??
http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/The_50_Greatest_Female_Characters_in_the_History_of_Video_Games
*edit wrong link - goldfenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They left out Bridget from Guilty Gear XX.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cause she can float?
- geekfrom99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5*spoiler alert*
ITS A TRAP! - glucoseboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nice article. I appreciate the work that went into identifying 50 female characters and then finding 50 unique actors to play them. Kudos to the Author.
- theturnmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4where are Fina and Aika from Skies of Arcadia?
Marle and Ayla from Chrono Trigger? - Downtime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Bastila from KOTOR and Tanya from the C&C series need spots on this list.
- ShivaOritiner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm pretty disappointed that there was no Hannah Montana. I mean shoot... she lives a double life!
- masterthiefster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Way too many dupes. There's about four from MGS and another four from Resident Evil. If they'd picked only ONE per series this list could have included several missing women.
- geekfrom99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5srsly guys, look above ^
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd also add the princess from "Karateka." Even if you're bad-ass enough to defeat the bad guy and all his minions, she'll kick your ass if you approach her in "fight" mode.
- TooLoftheDeviL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Jennifer Lopez to play Ivy? What the hell is wrong with him?
- S4MF1SHER, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm such an Ada Wong and Jill Valentine (RE3) fan boy. It's sad really...
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What and not Aeirie? She not bother you enough with pointless banter to the point where you've got her tatooed into your skull?
- ShivaOritiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love Maya. She's full of Yoga goodness and tips for easing your period. Definately what most male gamers need!
- div57, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What about Orchild from Killer Instinct? How do we forget her?
- mojorojoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They left out my Yourself! Fitness trainer: Maya
- afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alright, are these supposed to be in order or not? 'Cause I fail to see how Cate Archer gets put behind 3 characters each from Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil. Of course, there are so many arguments against this list I guess I should just ignore it.
- MillenniumX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How the heck do you list Rikku and Yuna and then not list Beatrix?
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's a dupp?
- afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alright, the page finally loaded (on dial-up) and I can see that its supposed to be in no particular order. Now, I don't understand why it would start with Lara Croft, Samus, and Zelda if it was supposed to be in no particular order, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
@Elranzer
Agreed. There have been some fantastic female characters for sure in the Final Fantasy series. Terra is one that sticks out as the most obvious omission as the catalyst for the story of one of the best games in the series, but Rydia from IV or even Dagger from IX are more interesting characters than anyone from X and X-2. - Guye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kudos for including Viktoria from the Thief series.
- justinjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't forget Lucca from Chrono Trigger. Hooray brains.
- dumpling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how did Paine make the list and not Yuffi? the hell is that?
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No kidding. No Bastila = crap list!
- VhaidraU, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah I could not make it that far either. I would rather scroll than hit a stupid next button 18 times to see the whole list!
- Tanath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally, I think it came out of an acid trip. :P
- ahuxley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting -
No Oni Konoko (voiced by Amanda Winn-Lee) - Bungie
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oni_%28computer_game%29
or Leela (AI) in Marathon -Bungie
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon_(computer_game_series) - FellAlchemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hello? First hot villain anyone?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:DarkQueen.png - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why should we remember her? She's hardly revolutionary.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@BabyWookie
Hahahah!! I choked on one of my chips while I was reading your comment during my lunch hour. - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea that came out of now where in mario 2 (ofcouse the entire game did...)
