- lokee73, on 07/06/2009, -5/+80I hate these ***** lists that refuse to acknowledge the PC!
- designashirt, on 07/06/2009, -0/+72That's a lot of Mario
- flyingsquirle, on 07/06/2009, -1/+64Goldeneye was the *****
- aithk608, on 07/06/2009, -9/+72uhhh... what about pc games?
- muzfuz, on 07/06/2009, -1/+63So basically, Nintendo dominated the 90's.
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+38I miss the days of Goldeneye 007 so much.
- Atario, on 07/06/2009, -2/+30No PC games = no Myst = failure.
- jc7012, on 07/06/2009, -0/+28dick.
- tyler71, on 07/06/2009, -0/+28'Statistics show that 26 Million people love making things fit together while listening to Russian beats'
- shipwreck58, on 07/06/2009, -3/+30Buried for misleading caption. should have read 50 Best Selling Console Games of the 1990's.
- cruik, on 07/06/2009, -0/+25Adulthood sucks.
- cor315, on 07/06/2009, -2/+26Yeah, where's doom, duke nukem, starcraft
I'm sure those were all up there.
Game were way better on the PC in the 90s - athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -1/+24Sim City 2000 FTW
- PhairOh, on 07/06/2009, -0/+20Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past being all the way down at 33 makes me sad. It sucks that so (relatively) few people got to experience the awesome.
- scarlettletter, on 07/06/2009, -2/+20Tetris rules!
- NathanielJ, on 07/06/2009, -0/+18How does your point stand at all if you yourself just said that Starcraft sold 9.5M units, which would place it at #9 on this list?
- dugbay, on 07/06/2009, -0/+17There is not excuse for Sonic to be 19; it had blast processing.
- norcal311, on 07/06/2009, -0/+15or did GameBoy come with Tetris?
- Fluffycheese, on 07/06/2009, -0/+13Yeah, I was expecting to see Riven somewhere on that list...
- Foot56, on 07/06/2009, -3/+16I was always oddjob that midget was hard to shoot.
- EvanGH, on 07/06/2009, -5/+18Buried for omitting the PC entirely. VGChartz is useless Digg fodder.
- anyone4apint, on 07/06/2009, -1/+13Using Oddjob is CHEATING GOD DAMM IT!!!!!!!!
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -0/+11Damn the Klobb!!
- ehsteve23, on 07/06/2009, -1/+10Not quite, you go to the guy who taught you how to catch pokemon in Viridian City, then fly to Cinnibar island and surf up and down the beach, eventually you'll fight a missingno who you have to kill, catch or run from, and the 6th item in your bag is set to 128.
- Snoogs, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9Man oh man... That was freshman year of college in a nutshell, other than the copius amounts of pot and horrible GPA.
- Ne007, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9oh yeh....like they don't have the #1 selling console and portables today.....
- lobsterxcore, on 07/06/2009, -3/+12No PC games? No half life? No digg.
- AndrewDB, on 07/06/2009, -4/+12VG Chartz sucks and needs to stop making the front page.
- deaftly, on 07/06/2009, -3/+11They were all pirated
- punkcat, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8yep Nintendo is practically out of business now.
- Zomgondo, on 07/06/2009, -1/+9And Redneck Rampage.
- phpirate, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8They weren't included.
- 1633Hz, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7Oh gawd, I know this is going to sound like I'm a geeky poke-fan of the 90's (which I was), but no, the sprites from the Japanese Red made their way to the Japanese Blue (With good reason, if you search for Pokemon Green sprites), the Japanese Blue was translated into English, and THEN the wild Pokemon information was switched around in two copies of the translated Japanese Blue to generate the two halves of the North American release. The most damning evidence of this, if you don't want to go digging, is that the original Green and Red for the Japanese release had an entirely different Unknown Dungeon floor-plan, which was changed for the Blue release. And on that note, okay, that's enough of me being geek-silly for one night. ... Oh, and I have to say, if you ignore all of the surrounding marketing, television shows, card games, et al., the core and original game concept is still brilliant fun to this day, childish or not.
- marcushe, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7Interesting no Mega Man's. Or Quake / Doom.
- Kadayi, on 07/06/2009, -1/+8Buried for lack of PC inclusion.
- Falldog, on 07/06/2009, -3/+10Or it wasn't an average RPG. Hmmm...
- almostnormal, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7I'm such a dumbass. I figured quake and unreal and ut would be on there.
- CBKBAMF, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6Dug for being all one ONE PAGE!
- asielen, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6Rare Candy? It was all about multiplying Master Balls since there was only one in the game.
- superherofive, on 07/06/2009, -4/+10You're right. It had nothing to do with the fact that it was a fun game.
- dragonlink2, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6by far the most impressive thing in that list is pokemon gold/silver. it came out in Nov of '99, so in roughly one and half months (came out Nov 21 in japan) it had already sold 5 MILLION copies, enough for the 28th highest selling of all of the 90's. crazy.
- ace429k, on 07/06/2009, -2/+8lol, until everyone just pushed down the yellow arrows a tiny bit. Then it was always a head shot. poor lil fella
- mikehayes19, on 07/06/2009, -1/+7are video games recession proof?
- jawbreaker4fs, on 07/06/2009, -1/+7Super Mario World should be excluded because it was bundled with every SNES.
- jeches, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Ahhh... good times.
- emazur, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5I'm pretty shocked Mortal Kombat (GEN) and Mortal Kombat II (GEN/SNES) didn't make the list. They were for me the games I most anticipated, there was a huge advertising campaign (who could forgot the "Mortal Kombat!" techno tv commercials?), they were wildly popular in the arcades, and there were movies to keep interest afloat. Oh well
- norcal311, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Eventually he did when an attorney fought for his ownership and rights to the game for free, and now he is very, very wealthy.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5No X-Com, no list.
- asielen, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5Only in Russia.
- norcal311, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Tears of pride for that little plumber. Money happily spent. Hours/Days happily gamed.
