1. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! - phbohn2, on 06/25/2009, -23/+221I'm glad that Final Fantasy VI was mentioned instead of VII, and I'm glad Zelda: Link to the Past was mentioned instead of OoT.
- stupidfilters, on 06/25/2009, -3/+179you can't finish starcraft....
It finishes you - MatlasK, on 06/25/2009, -8/+153I think there's a mistake, as Starcraft wasn't on the list anywhere.
- gakkan, on 06/25/2009, -2/+138Goldeneye?
- YouAreDead, on 06/25/2009, -10/+144Minesweeper?
- Syraith, on 06/25/2009, -5/+108If you haven't played #7 your license to digg is now revoked.
- evohollywood, on 06/25/2009, -10/+113No Bubble Bobble??? WTF.
- dsmx, on 06/25/2009, -7/+103No Deus Ex?
- Kajaah117, on 06/25/2009, -8/+90One of the best lists I've seen. I'm pleasantly surprised. Shadow of the Colossus and Beyond Good and Evil are definitely the best "overlooked" choices.
- mastersystem, on 06/25/2009, -22/+103What about Zelda Ocarina of Time for the N64?!
- TurboZerbo, on 06/25/2009, -1/+81I beat Mike Tyson ONCE in my entire life and no one was there to see it. It may as well never have happened.
- KingGorilla, on 06/25/2009, -0/+77What you'll miss out on: Smiley face
- Bilabrin, on 06/25/2009, -3/+66Dugg for Symphony of the Night.
This game is one of my all time favorites and I've been waiting for one like it ever since. Unfortunately, console platformers are now all 3D. Screw that. Super Metroid and SOTN were good enough. We play video games to escape reality so why are we trying so hard to emulate it? - Ommatidia, on 06/25/2009, -12/+74Zelda OOT = Greatest Game Ever.
- shujin, on 06/25/2009, -6/+57Honestly i've played both (and almost all of these games) and OoT absolutely deserves a part of this list. You might disagree, but OoT is definitely one of the best games of all time, and is certainly ahead of bioshock, mafia, or chronicles of riddick (all absolutely fantastic games, but OoT is in a class of its own)
- harpoonhank420, on 06/25/2009, -0/+50"The story of a bespectacled man, his woefully short crowbar and his quest to figure out where all of these one-eyed alien freaks are coming from."
well said - astrimbu, on 06/25/2009, -2/+52Diablo, anyone?
- insertAliasHere, on 06/25/2009, -2/+51I know that's a quote from the article, but I just had a better time playing Ocarina of Time. That game will always stand out in my memory as one of the best games I've ever played. It was just so good, way better than anything else at the time.
Now I have to go dig up my N64 (if I can find it, if not, find an emulator) after work. - SirOutrageous, on 06/25/2009, -1/+50Mike Tyson's Punch-Out (#1) and Super Mario Bros (the original) (#7) were my nemeses back in the day and I never finished either!
- xdeliriumx, on 06/25/2009, -2/+50I am actually surprised by this list. I thought it would be a bunch of games you WANT to finish before you die but can't because they are asstardedly hard (Ninja Gaiden Series, Fester's Quest, Tickling Your Friend's Mother, etc.)
- noclips, on 06/25/2009, -2/+48woefully short comment
- NathanielJ, on 06/25/2009, -1/+47If you haven't played #7 then this list doesn't even come close to applying to you, since you clearly couldn't care less about video games and thus there are none that you must play before you die.
- 69sofine, on 06/25/2009, -0/+46That guy loves to use the word "woefully."
- Supertrout, on 06/25/2009, -0/+44It's like getting a hole in one and no one was there. Happens to me all the time....
- pikpikcarrotmon, on 06/26/2009, -0/+43SPOILER WARNING DAMMIT
- sexybobo, on 06/25/2009, -2/+42I played #7 but never finished it am i still ok?
- Airbear007, on 06/25/2009, -2/+42Dug for Advanced Wars!
- densetsu23, on 06/25/2009, -7/+42FTA: "Face it: [The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past] is better than the windy, less-focused Ocarina of Time."
- iDoraemon, on 06/25/2009, -2/+36So glad Chronicles of Riddick was on the list. Third Act definitely kicked much butt.
- QuillRoots, on 06/26/2009, -1/+34Hello Kitty Island Adventure?
- melonhedd, on 06/25/2009, -0/+32NOW YOU FOUND THE MOST IMPORTANT MAGIC IN THE WORLD.
IT'S LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP. - KunoJ, on 06/25/2009, -0/+32I remember when I first beat him. I left the screen on that shows Mac posing next to the trophy. Then I promptly hopped on my bike and rode to at least 4 different friends' houses and dragged them over so they could see it.
After they left, I still left the screen on long into the night. I slept peacefully with that nightlight. - Lamtd, on 06/25/2009, -5/+35FF7 is only great if you've never played FF6 before, that's why.
- shininia, on 06/25/2009, -0/+28FFVI was on FF Anthology for PS1 and was released for SNES as FF3.
- hordespawn, on 06/26/2009, -1/+27That's impossible; You never lost your virginity.
- Cartman89, on 06/25/2009, -3/+28I have a hard time beating games, I just don't have the patience. Unless it's Bioshock, I went through it 3 times.
- Stavrosian, on 06/26/2009, -0/+24To be fair, though, what would be the point in having comments on an article if we weren't going to discuss what we agreed with and disagreed with? I guess we could all talk about the weather or something.
- djlethal, on 06/26/2009, -0/+24lol noob
- Junkyarddawg, on 06/25/2009, -11/+35Buried for inaccuracy due to missing Planescape: Torment.
- Kerplunk5975, on 06/25/2009, -1/+24FTA: "Half-Life (PC; 1998)
What you'll miss out on: The story of a bespectacled man, his woefully short crowbar and his quest to figure out where all of these one-eyed alien freaks are coming from."
uhh more like the story of a bespectacled man and his quest to.. "GET TOPSIDE FREEMAN WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING DOWN HERE?!" - KimNovak, on 06/25/2009, -0/+22Is it for PC or console?
- mywhitenoise, on 06/25/2009, -9/+31I think I'll live just fine without ever playing Tony Hawk.
- ThE0eNiGmA, on 06/25/2009, -1/+22Stateside, there is nothing between FF3 and FF7. US FF3 = JP FFVI. With FF7, US FF7 = JP FF7. They finally got rid of the retarded numbering differences.
- bci84, on 06/25/2009, -1/+22Battletoads was my nemesis, should have bee on the list.
- Velocity14, on 06/25/2009, -1/+21I'm glad to see Chrono Trigger being appreciated along side of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy VI, Mario Bros and even Mario 64. Toss Secret of Mana, pretty much all the Mario games, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time in there and you've got my childhood.
Those were the days... - crusel832, on 06/25/2009, -1/+20Never heard of it
- Visual77, on 06/25/2009, -2/+21On the original releases, they did the Japanese games and US games differently. All of the games have since been released in both regions, but half of the NES/SNES games were not released in the US until later.
Japan / US
NES
FFI = FFI
FFII = Not released
FFIII = Not released
SNES
FFIV = FFII
FFV = Not released
FFVI = FFIII
From FFVII onward, the numbers have matched up. - Amlethus, on 06/25/2009, -0/+19Dugg for "16. Final Fantasy VI (SNES, PlayStation; 1994)
What you'll miss out on: More rich and varied characters than a Robert Altman movie. Yes, we said VI, not VII. Don't even start with us. " -
