gamerhelp.com — Many of today' s video games lack a decent ending (BioShock). This list names and shows the most memorable gaming endings of all time. Massive spoiler alert.
- 2214 diggs
- digg it
- obelisky, on 11/28/2007, -10/+43dugg for link to the past...
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9You beat me to it. I haven't played the game in years, but I can remember the scenes and the music like it was yesterday.
Personally, my favorite game ending. - NikoKun, on 11/28/2007, -10/+5And for Final Fantasy 8... One of my favs after Link to the Past. lol
- therightclique, on 11/28/2007, -3/+3final fantasy 8 is garbage compared to link to the past.
- Gir53457, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3FFXIII had the emo story line yes, but the junctioning and battle system were vastly superior to FFVII, assuming you actually junctioned spells to character stats instead of spam GFs.
- heypetray, on 11/28/2007, -2/+2What really matters is that Xenogears > Entire FF Series.. And thank god it made the list.
- therightclique, on 11/28/2007, -3/+3final fantasy 8 is garbage compared to link to the past.
- tracker198x, on 11/28/2007, -0/+22buried for naming Link "Randy"
- Elranzer, on 11/28/2007, -10/+6Final Fantasy 7 was not on the list. So the list is accurate.
- terracottapai, on 11/28/2007, -2/+2I'm busting out my SNES-USB adapter right now to do another marathon beatdown on ALTTP.
Be back in 10 hours.. - Daiken, on 11/28/2007, -2/+2Meh, was never that impressed with the ending for the game.
- wafflez, on 11/29/2007, -1/+3WTF NO METAL GEAR SOLID 3!!?!? WTF!!!?
- SteveMax, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1Where is Monkey Island 2?!
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9You beat me to it. I haven't played the game in years, but I can remember the scenes and the music like it was yesterday.
- Megaten, on 11/28/2007, -7/+119What!?! I'm sorry, but a list that doesn't include Bad Dudes as one of the best endings ever is garbage. Really, I mean, after being a bad enough dude, and rescuing the President from goddamn ninjas...it had the perfect closure.
http://sydlexia.com/imagesandstuff/badd0042.png- Elliuotatar, on 11/28/2007, -1/+22Well if you're going to go that route, at the end of Bionic Commando you have to kill hitler then escape from a building that's gonna explode in 60 seconds.
- mymidgetfriend, on 11/28/2007, -0/+20Bionic Commando was a really hard game and when you are done you are treated with one of the best images ever.... HITLER'S HEAD EXPLODING over the course of several frames. So amazing. That gets my vote.
- InvisibleMan, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1the NES NARC game, best ending ever.
- Gndoab, on 11/28/2007, -3/+4I was totally expecting Bad Dudes to make the list. Even without the totally awesome ending...the name is "Bad Dudes"...Comon!
- bwdd, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4"Hey dudes thanks. For rescuing me. Let's go for a burger HAHAHAHAHAH"
- Elliuotatar, on 11/28/2007, -1/+22Well if you're going to go that route, at the end of Bionic Commando you have to kill hitler then escape from a building that's gonna explode in 60 seconds.
- schodemeiss, on 11/28/2007, -21/+8Bioshock....
Im hating people hating on the ending. How could they possibly end a game that was sooo damn good!?- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -2/+14So the game should just go on forever?
- Drahkar, on 11/28/2007, -2/+12Frankly I enjoyed the ending. It wasn't some award winning ending, but it gave you closure and brought the whole thing full circle.
- therightclique, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4no, it most certainly did not.
- Drahkar, on 11/28/2007, -2/+12Frankly I enjoyed the ending. It wasn't some award winning ending, but it gave you closure and brought the whole thing full circle.
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -2/+14So the game should just go on forever?
- mmocrunch, on 11/28/2007, -4/+26Starcraft should have been on there
- Darksaber11, on 11/28/2007, -2/+15So. *****. True. Not only is the ending cinematic phenomenal, but the last mission is one of the most satisfying experiences of any RTS campaign ever.
"En Taro Adun, brave sons of Aiur."- zengonzo, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1En Taro Tassadar.
- iChainsaw, on 11/28/2007, -2/+3I did not see the ending to any metal gear games, portal, or starcraft; therefore this list is crap. Seriously. They could have at least put the ending to halo 2 while they were at it.
- malcolmboston, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1Halo 2's ending is one of the most hated and controversial endings ever? :S
- Darksaber11, on 11/28/2007, -2/+15So. *****. True. Not only is the ending cinematic phenomenal, but the last mission is one of the most satisfying experiences of any RTS campaign ever.
- cooldude1561, on 11/28/2007, -5/+274wheres the portal ending?
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -2/+216Yea, the Portal ending takes the cake.
- somedirtbag, on 11/28/2007, -9/+3I see what you did there.
- hulez, on 11/28/2007, -1/+1you raff you ruse
- kevindoc, on 11/28/2007, -6/+1ba dum tsshhh!!!
Thanks folks he'll be here all week
;-)
- somedirtbag, on 11/28/2007, -9/+3I see what you did there.
- kevindoc, on 11/28/2007, -3/+32I'm writing a note now....
To say that this list blows...
.... - Niubai, on 11/28/2007, -2/+22That was a triumph ...
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS- tektalk, on 11/28/2007, -10/+4It's hard to overstate my satisfaction....
Aperture science
We do what we most, because... we can.
For the good of all of us... except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake, you just keep trying till we run out of cake.
And the science gets done, and you make a neat gun,
for the people who are still aliiive.- tektalk, on 11/28/2007, -3/+2*edit: digg me down, I messed up my fifth line :(
- Grimdotdotdot, on 11/28/2007, -3/+2And the third: It's 'must'.
- tektalk, on 11/28/2007, -10/+4It's hard to overstate my satisfaction....
- gordeh, on 11/28/2007, -0/+23Have to agree, I was expecting portal to appear somewhere on the list. Its one of the few game endings I wanted to watch again and again.
- Omicron, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6honestly, i skimmed through this list only looking for Portal.
I admit, I haven't finished most of the games in this list, but the ending to Portal was the best video game ending I've ever seen. - hollismb, on 11/28/2007, -4/+4I played though it in one sitting, and it was late, so I may have just forgotten: Isn't the Portal ending pretty much boss-fight, followed by view of outside world, followed by catchy song? Sure, the song is good, but I don't know if that qualifies it as 'best ending ever' or anything. Or did I miss something?
- spect3r, on 11/28/2007, -1/+14You missed something.
- wallitron, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction.
- therightclique, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6you suck at enjoying good games
- pivovy, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1didn't you like the cake, dude?
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -2/+216Yea, the Portal ending takes the cake.
- awtripp, on 11/28/2007, -10/+58An undeniably lame list.
- NathanielJ, on 11/28/2007, -3/+43Dugg for mentioning the FF8 camcorder sequence.
- shimshamalong, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4Agreed. The game itself wasn't one of my favorites, but I love the beginning and ending (and the card game, until that freaking "random" rule shows up).
- TheUngod, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5Also for FF6. 16bit can be beautiful.
- endlessoul, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2I must say, when I was watching the FFIII ending, I kinda choked up when I saw Balamb Gardens flying overhead. Wow, memories of that game. At least a hundred hours on FFIII, twice as much on FFII.
- saintjason, on 11/28/2007, -6/+125I've been playing World of Warcraft for three years, when will I see the ending?!??
- DiscoLando, on 11/28/2007, -2/+25You must really suck at it, because WoW has the best ending I've ever seen!
- ZeRux, on 11/28/2007, -1/+159WoW ending:
SPOILER WARNING
You delete your account and go outside :-))- ZachSka87, on 11/28/2007, -0/+50I go outside all the time! It's the only place I can ride my epic mount!
- ZeRux, on 11/28/2007, -1/+159WoW ending:
- plizard, on 11/28/2007, -3/+30when you get a life
- SpaceDreamer, on 11/28/2007, -3/+20Just disconnect, and witness the #1 best ending in videogames:
life. - LordSpam, on 11/28/2007, -1/+16I heard you have to beat Heroin Hero first to finish WoW.
- AwesomeAndy, on 11/28/2007, -0/+11But I can never catch the dragon. :(
- DiscoLando, on 11/28/2007, -2/+25You must really suck at it, because WoW has the best ending I've ever seen!
- insomniacal, on 11/28/2007, -1/+33Forgot Karateka: you beat the final boss, run up to the maid in distress, and she kicks your head off! (You had to remember to pull out of fighting stance -- approaching her that way was a threat).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karateka_%28video_gam ...- staticneuron, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3Wait what? that sounds awesome.
- insomniacal, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6First time it happened to me -- after beating the entire game, mind you -- I was so ticked. Then I came to my senses, laughed my head off, and replayed the entire game just to see it again.
- BigW, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4Way old school!! dugg!! This is the first game that came into my mind when I saw this title.
- Snarfy, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2OMG your post brings back the pain. I had forgotten about that one. That game was so damn hard, you finally get to the princess, then dead wtf!?!?
- FiP0, on 11/28/2007, -6/+1Correct link :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karateka_%28video_gam ...- AwesomeAndy, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3Still not correct.
- FiP0, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1Then it's digg's fault. The comment system must not like karateka :(
- AwesomeAndy, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3Still not correct.
- staticneuron, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3Wait what? that sounds awesome.
- badqat, on 11/28/2007, -8/+102Best video game ending I've ever seen was the one on South Park episode "Guitar Queer-o" hands down!
- dood, on 11/28/2007, -8/+1I like how the "spoiler alert" appears after revealing that Bioshock's ending was not decent. Granted, I should have finished it by now, but I've been busy...
- danske, on 11/28/2007, -21/+8Haven't checked the list yet.
Portals, had better be the #1.
WTF!
its not even on the list.
Bury this *****!- Elliuotatar, on 11/28/2007, -9/+4Neither is the ending of God Hand. Don't say that you don't like the ball buster!
And System Shock 2? Wtf? I have a friend who worked on that and even I recognize that the ending of SS2 was total *****.
Mario RPG also had an awesome parade at the end which I thought was the greatest thing ever when I beat it.
Also, what the hell was so great about the ending of any of the Zelda games? Nothing. The games themselves were great, but the endings were anything but amazing.- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5Did you actually finish Zelda 3?
- grumbel, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5The Zelda endings, just like the Mario endings, are great because they give you a recapitulation of all the characters and places that you have visited in the game. So you get a very nice closure by looking back at everything you did in the game. Its a simple technique, but a damn good one and a lot more satisfying then just looking at a black credits screen.
- Elliuotatar, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1Yes, it's better than looking at a black credits screen. So? What's your point? This article was about the best endings of ALL TIME. The Zelda games might have had good endings, but so did LOTS of other games. This article is about the BEST endings. And showing a few characters you met doesn't cut it for best. Mario RPG showed you the character AND had a huge parade. That makes it better.
- skyfire1, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2It's Portal you dumb *****.
- Elliuotatar, on 11/28/2007, -9/+4Neither is the ending of God Hand. Don't say that you don't like the ball buster!
- moojj, on 11/28/2007, -0/+8I finished The Simpsons Game the other day, I have to say it was one of the funniest endings ever.
- SomeoneGNU, on 11/28/2007, -3/+30Portals isn't there. Fallout isn't there. I think probably one of the Ultima series deserves to be there.
- TheUngod, on 11/28/2007, -1/+2I would have liked to see Persona 3...assuming anyone has even played it. If you haven't, play it...like, right now.
- Dustmuffins, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4Portal*
- wiz0rian, on 11/28/2007, -18/+33Where the hell is FFVII
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -9/+34Its probably on the top of "Strangest and Most Mediocre Video Game Endings Ever."
- Meogi, on 11/28/2007, -9/+4STFU FFVII is a LEGEND in the RPG world and always will be
- lebatte, on 11/28/2007, -2/+4Quiet, FFVII's ending was pointless. VIII was the best ending out of all FF games because of the Laguna part.
- somestranger26, on 11/29/2007, -1/+2FFIX ending > FFVIII ending
- lebatte, on 11/29/2007, -1/+1Yeah, I considered that as a possibility, but I don't remember it that well. Anyway, an ending doesn't make a story good, nor a game.
- technoredneck, on 11/28/2007, -0/+7So is Ocarina of Time, but it's ending wasn't particularly spectacular. Awesome game ≠ awesome ending.
- lebatte, on 11/28/2007, -2/+4Quiet, FFVII's ending was pointless. VIII was the best ending out of all FF games because of the Laguna part.
- Meogi, on 11/28/2007, -9/+4STFU FFVII is a LEGEND in the RPG world and always will be
- darkened, on 11/28/2007, -5/+20Because the ending was terrible. It left you with no idea wtf really happened. Even Advent Children didn't answer EVERY question the ending left.
- thephosphorbox, on 11/28/2007, -19/+3Its not on there because Uhmerikans don't want to have to THINK about anything, or have to draw their own conclusions about anything. The ending to FF7 was created in such a way that you had to use your imagination to decide for yourself what you THOUGHT happened. In that, I felt that ending was absolutely brilliant.
- j0nnyDiGITAL, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9Elitists like you always have to assume people are American. In addition to your bigotry, you have no idea what you're talking about. If "The ending to FF7 was created in such a way that you had to use your imagination to decide for yourself what you THOUGHT happened." they wouldn't have to make a spin-off movie. And don't say it was created for "Uhmerikans" because they created, localized and produced it in Japan first.
- Gir53457, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5His profile says hes from the US, so I guess hes just a pretentious idiot.
- j0nnyDiGITAL, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9Elitists like you always have to assume people are American. In addition to your bigotry, you have no idea what you're talking about. And don't say it was created for "Uhmerikans" because they created, localized and produced it in Japan first.
- HolemCross, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5If by FF7's ending you mean Advent Children, then maybe. But even then it is still an maybe.
- Pureeviljester, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9you mean you couldn't tell that a comet was crashing and the lifestream saved everyone...
- ZenMojo, on 11/28/2007, -6/+1It's more that nobody cared.
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -9/+34Its probably on the top of "Strangest and Most Mediocre Video Game Endings Ever."
- Flashman, on 11/28/2007, -0/+30I particularly like the playable credit sequence in 'Hitman: Blood Money', in which Agent 47 and Diana prepare a nasty surprise at a funeral...
- FiP0, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1What ? I don't remember that ...
- FiP0, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitman:_Blood_Money#E ...
Jesus christ I never finished that game, did I ? I put it aside for a few days, because my computer died on me, and I must have forgotten about it... thanks, now I know what I'm going to do for the next few evenings :) - bmcnally, on 11/29/2007, -1/+1Perfect ending showing that 47 isn't holy, isn't good or evil: he's an assassin.
- Herv3, on 11/28/2007, -2/+16I know this is cliche, to list the game that didn't make the list, but I'm going to do it anyways.
Where the hell is Super Metroid?! - mthmchris, on 11/28/2007, -1/+69Chrono Trigger?
- bluemist, on 11/28/2007, -0/+28which ending?
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Yea, I must have seen the wrong one..
- roystgnr, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6I think you could fairly group Chrono Trigger's endings into one "greatest ending" for the purposes of making a list.
Deus Ex, on the other hand, should be on the list three times, one for each ending. - SteveMax, on 11/29/2007, -1/+1The one you get beating Lavos using Crono alone, by entering the wrong telepod. That one was fantastic;
- nochilinopity, on 11/28/2007, -1/+11this list could be solely comprised of chrono trigger endings
- Scienceisfun, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4Hell yes! Twelve different endings! That's worth at least one entry on the list.
- bluemist, on 11/28/2007, -0/+28which ending?
- NeverOffside, on 11/28/2007, -13/+4There's nothing as predictable as the comments on a story about top 10 (or 18) lists. Nobody wants to read what you think SHOULD be in the list. It's not your list. Just leave it. Christ. Do you sit there thinking life will be incomplete unless I correct these fools and their top list of game endings. Sheesh.
- scabbers, on 11/28/2007, -2/+9Is it "portals" in the same way that it's "legos"?
- Murdats, on 11/28/2007, -0/+9yeah, why everyone calls it portals I dont know.
- HolemCross, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I'm guessing that its pronounced that way since portals assumingly come in twos.
- mrk0, on 11/28/2007, -7/+60No metal gear solid, no digg.
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -2/+11That's top on the list of "Most Japanese Video Game Endings Ever"
- c0n724ll10n, on 11/28/2007, -0/+11TURN OFF YOUR CONSOLE
- volacide, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I have a feeling the person who dugg this down might not have understood this comment...
- Carsonauto, on 11/28/2007, -5/+52Metal Gear Solid 3 NEVER gets high enough on these lists.
- Mipit, on 11/28/2007, -4/+2What ever happened to COD4? I loved that ending!
- Jofaba, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3Probably a little new to be on the list or even on the "greatest ever", but I agree, I absolutely LOVED that ending. Was very cinematic.
- thejeremy, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1...not to mention Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, or hell even Metal Gear Solid. To this day those are all in my top 10 favorite games list. Each game had a huge plot twist somewhere in the ending.
- Menoats, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2Same, I play the MGS games strictly for the storyline. Each one delivers a deep message and has a twist at the end. I remember each MGS ending to this day.
- Mipit, on 11/28/2007, -4/+2What ever happened to COD4? I loved that ending!
- Sinudeity, on 11/28/2007, -10/+3BAD list of games...
- Dan11023, on 11/28/2007, -13/+2Spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- gregcotten, on 11/28/2007, -0/+18I think you missed an exclamation mark there, chief.
- iChainsaw, on 11/28/2007, -1/+2NSFW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- tuxidomasx, on 11/28/2007, -11/+4FFVI shoulda been listed as well
- tuxidomasx, on 11/28/2007, -3/+1oops. nevermind. its on page 2
- bluemist, on 11/28/2007, -4/+29Dugg for Final Fantasy VI, the most underappreciated FF ever, especially in this new world of 3D FF madness. This is one epic game, and IMO the most complete ending in the series.
- plizard, on 11/28/2007, -12/+2apparently you never played tactics, 7, 9, 12, 4
- NathanielJ, on 11/28/2007, -0/+10How is 7's ending more complete than... well, anything?
- kevisazombie, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6apparently you only played the mass marketed anime fan boy final fantasy
- AwesomeAndy, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6FF7's ending was so complete they had to make a movie to complete it.
- NathanielJ, on 11/28/2007, -0/+12It's my favourite FF game too, but it's hardly underappreciated :P
- hockey, on 11/28/2007, -1/+13How can a game that is hailed as the PINNACLE of the 16 bit era (which it is) be under appreciated?
- TheUngod, on 11/28/2007, -2/+9Hands up if you want to see a remake.
- Zaetha, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1One hand up.
- sekala, on 11/29/2007, -0/+0actually I heard a rumor that they were re-doing all of the super nintendo era FFs the way that they did FF3 for DS
I hope it's true!
heh, I just finished the floating island on FF6 advance. I've probably beaten this game 6-7 times I love it so much.
- AwesomeAndy, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4When the hell did FF6 become UNDERappreciated?
- ZenMojo, on 11/28/2007, -1/+9As soon as folks started overappreciating FFVII.
- plizard, on 11/28/2007, -12/+2apparently you never played tactics, 7, 9, 12, 4
- Elliuotatar, on 11/28/2007, -3/+40More like "The best endings of the games we remember beating on consoles."
- Joomal, on 11/28/2007, -5/+2Yeah...title is incorrect.
PC games are not even listed unless the game was on a console too.- Opteron, on 11/28/2007, -0/+7System Shock 2? Warcraft 3?
- vincekiessling, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2System Shock 2, Warcraft 3, the youtube video for FEAR was being played on a PC. Know how to read? Or even just click a play button?
- Joomal, on 11/28/2007, -5/+2Yeah...title is incorrect.
- OpticalLiam, on 11/28/2007, -1/+23No Portal?
- eddeh, on 11/28/2007, -1/+15No Diablo(I, II) ??
- PJ1967, on 11/28/2007, -1/+2Yeah, the hero smashes the soulstone into his forehead!
- yohnstoppable, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1Diablo 1 had by far the worst video game ending of all time
- Coldmetal, on 11/28/2007, -4/+8No Zelda: OoT?
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -3/+4When I beat Zelda 4, I was disappointed in the ending because I remembered how great Zelda 3's was..
- WarMachineWCLH, on 11/28/2007, -3/+18This might be the lamest list ever. First off two Resident Evil games? Two? Two Final Fantasy games? Half of the games are fighting games. I'm sorry but when I think compelling story with a satisfing ending Mortal Kombat doesn't spring to mind. Could have removed almost all of them and made it the top 6 or so.
Also where's Grim Fandango? No list of awesome video game anything is complete without Grim Fandango.- spyrochaete, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I haven't finished Grim Fandango. :( I get about 2/3 through and am stopped cold by a known bug that affects fast computers. Something about a conveyor belt after you tear the ship with 2 anchors apart. I'm *dying* to finish the game! Such a heartbreaker!
We may have days, we may hours hours
but sooner or later we all push up flowers- yfph, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Google is your friend.. http://dod.dotagame.com/patch.php

- DeadAsDillinger, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I thought Gungrave had a pretty great ending. I mean, you get to shoot the villain in the head yourself, after killing thousands of enemies with a huge coffin full of guns and missiles chained to your arms. Epic.
- Ju1c3, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5no origional command and conquer? come on you get to nuke cities or blow up the white house with an ION Cannon
- cstewart28, on 11/28/2007, -9/+1The 18 Greatest Video Game Endings Ever......So far!
A lot of A-list games due for release in the next 12 months, which could wipe this list out.- murf43143, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4No way, a few of those are classics!
- Godlesswanderer, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3If they're due for release in the next 12 months, how could you know that they're going to have a great ending?
- Acolyte357, on 11/28/2007, -3/+19Buried for Greatest ________ Ever
- Ventolin, on 11/28/2007, -1/+11Nothing beat's FF6's almost half an hour ending. I may be a ffanboy, but that ending still sticks in my mind.
- murf43143, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3A lot of work went into this list. Dugg for good choices and a few I haven't seen! (Check out the DOA one, I laughed my ass off)
- NiGHTSChao, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6Kinda sad Fallout 1 wasn't on there
- silencerar, on 11/28/2007, -0/+4Where's Out of this World (Or Another World)?
No Digg for you!- grumbel, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4While the game was totally awesome on many levels, I wouldn't say the ending was great. I mean the game quite literally just ended, no closure or stuff, which is ok, but it could have been executed better, especially considering that the intro was pretty damn long and detailed, the ending just felt, well, short.
- cerealjynx, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1God DAMN I wish there was a viable way to play Out of This world 2. I have yet to find a SegaCD Emulator that can handle it.
- silencerar, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1I played Out of this world 2 (Heart of the Alien) on PC, I can't remember right now which emulator I used, but give me a day or two and I'll tell you.
- Grapekiller, on 11/28/2007, -3/+29Dugg for Metroid. ending, You never suspected Samus to be a girl
- kermithefrogand, on 11/28/2007, -16/+4umm, the ending for halo 2!
- onlynameicanget, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5What ending?
- valkyries, on 11/28/2007, -2/+1can i please say it!?! i would normally never say this word on digg, but u earned it. noob!
- MuffinPatrol, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1i think he was joking.
- ironrex, on 11/28/2007, -15/+7Buried for no use of FF7 wherein the main character's love interest who DIED stunningly saves the planet from within the life-stream. Then after the credits they show how the metropolis of Midgar has been overrun by nature, thus punching home the game long theme of the circle of life.
- NathanielJ, on 11/28/2007, -2/+15FF7 doesn't have to be on every list ever.
- ironrex, on 11/28/2007, -5/+3That may be but the ending is a huge part of the plot, which is what makes the game stand out.
- kayfouroh, on 11/28/2007, -1/+3This wasn't the Most Mediocre Game Endings Ever list.
How many times have you seen a love interest die in a game/movie and miraculously saves the world from beyond the grave? - Meogi, on 11/28/2007, -1/+2:) no it doesn't have to, but it could be
- ZekeSulastin, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2There are plenty of games that did the killing off a protagonist thing earlier and in some cases better. Phantasy Star II and IV anyone?
*spoliers*
In II, even being able to kill Neifirst with Nei alone would result in Nei's death due to the loss of part of her, and in IV Alys died protecting Chaz from a Very Powerful Attack (damn 4 letter name limit in translation), had a funeral, and late in the game you wound up fighting 'Alys' with Chaz ALONE with the theme of her death playing in the background. Neither was crazy obvious at first and both were pulled off a lot better than when Aeris died.
Also beat them to the dead characters saving the day thing - Elsydeon, anyone? And I am sure there are examples in other games, both FF and otherwise, that are just as poignant.
- NathanielJ, on 11/28/2007, -2/+15FF7 doesn't have to be on every list ever.
- WoollyMittens, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5FEAR must have been the first game where you are actualy IN a nuclear explosion.
- raindog469, on 11/28/2007, -2/+6I thought Bioshock's "good" ending was very satisfying storywise. It was just kinda short.
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -1/+5Agreed, but "kinda" probably isn't a strong enough word. "Brutally" would be a better descriptive word for the shortness of the ending.
- antiorblkflag9, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6Lunar: Silver Star Story, my brother and I were finishing it around the same time. For some reason I had a desire to play the ocarina as I was walking up to Luna after the final boss. My brother wasn't so lucky and had to do the boss battle all over again.
btw, dugg for Sub Zero - ZeRux, on 11/28/2007, -1/+11No Planescape: Torment? Buried.
No Fallout? Well I can't bury it twice.- Packgrog, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Agreed on the Fallout ending. That was brutal.
- mortinmaxwell, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Planescape: Torment's ending is probably one of the best I can think of.
- Packgrog, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Agreed on the Fallout ending. That was brutal.
- piesforyou, on 11/28/2007, -2/+10Aw, wanted Half-life 2 to be on there. I nearly creamed my pants when the tower was falling over and the g-man froze time.
- chewbacca77, on 11/28/2007, -1/+8That wasn't so much of an ending as it was slicing the game off at a specific point.
- zydar, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6I preferred Half-Life's ending to HL2's. In fact, I don't know what it is about Half-Life I like more - the intro or the ending!
- TriplePlay2425, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5I agree, that was so awesome.
And no, chewbacca, that was the end of HL2. Yes, it was in the middle of the whole Half-Life series, but that was the end of 2. Which was a game itself, and it was an awesome ending. I was hoping that both HL2 and Portal would be on this list. - AnimZero, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6Episode Two's ending, too. That was entirely unexpected. D:
- ryanwarnersteel, on 11/29/2007, -3/+1"blah, blah, blah Mr. Freeman"
- floatingpoints, on 11/28/2007, -3/+7Link to the Past?
Erm... awesome game, but the ending was nothing special...- manstein01, on 11/28/2007, -0/+0Agreed, also is Raiden eating a bagel at the end of that Sub-Zero game?
- Hermiod, on 11/28/2007, -7/+28Not digging because they included LeiFang's ending from DoA4.
Why ? Because she publicly murders a guy just because he was falling over and grabbed the first thing he could to stop himself. Very heroic.
The moral of that story is that all men who look at attractive women are perverts and should die, thus Team Ninja manages to balance out any accusations of sexism towards women by being just as blatantly sexist towards men.- GunnerMcGrath, on 11/28/2007, -7/+5Uh, lighten up. He fell in water, and we all know that in cartoons people don't die from exaggerated falls, especially in water. It's silly and tongue in cheek; come back when you found your sense of humor.
- ryanwarnersteel, on 11/29/2007, -2/+1OMG video games are real! Looks like we're condoning torture killings now too!
- iceman35, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1where is call of duty 4? i think its the best single player and ending ive ever played.
