- Freakboy380, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23imo most of those sucked ive seen way better ones
- Shakermaker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Yeah these are pretty weak/lame.
- dagnabbit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I always liked the second ever issue of Nintendo Power - the one for Castlevania and it had Belmont holding Dracula's severed head. So "frightening" to all the young readers that Nintendo named it one of their worst covers ever, since they got so many angry calls from parents. Classic.
- Nickbc87, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9The all silver Mega Man X cover of Nintendo Power back in '93 was my personal favorite. It came with MMX pog sheet! F'n sweet!
- dagnabbit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5update - I found it on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Power#Controversy. Although I guess inside Nintendo they also knew it was one of their most awesome covers. Dammit, why did I throw out all my old issues. They would be so awesome to read through today.
- Kookami, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It's in the intro: "Note that I stuck with US magazines for this feature. Otherwise, I'd just select 12 random issues of UK magazine Edge and call it a day, and that doesn't make for effective feature-writing."
- hockey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Make a list and submit it to digg. If you include something about the Wii it'll make the front page for sure :)
- hockey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I remember that. One parent complained that their kid had nightmares from the cover.
Man a lot changes in 20 years. No one would even bat an eye at that cover today. - Paroparo, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Everything from the US? I know you guys have the largest gaming scene, but there is a rest of the world too you know.
- adgreene, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2the only PCXL magazine cover they show is the last issue? There were lots of great PCXL covers - that was not one of them.
- Infantrydude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh NO! Look out Internet tough guy! Making threats from Mommies basement!
Dugg for not knowing the difference between figurative and literal. - PRlME, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3slow news day? ...yes
this list sux - Falldog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Maybe I'm just naive, but placing headlines over preexisting game art doesn't seem that difficult of a task (let alone worthy of praise).
- TheSkinsFactory, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Except for the Dragoon one, they all looked like crap. Actually the worst cover list looks better to me than the ones from their best list.
- Hetman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1PC accelerator was one of the best gaming magazines of all time. It makes me so sad that they stopped making them. And I got ripped off for about 5 issuies. Seriously if pay for a subscription to something you should get your money back if they stop making them.
- mymidgetfriend, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I didn't even click the link and that was going to be my choice.
- shinedout, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Ahhh Secret of Mana. Seeing that cover brought me back to being 13.
- roseap, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3slow news day?
- plingboot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was just about to write that exact comment!
- fadetoone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Agreed. Some of them may have been pretty cool for what they were intended to represent, but none of those showed "excellent artwork"
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I was wondering when someone would post a comment about the greatest video game magazine ever. The 100th edition cover was hand drawn by Shigeru Miyamoto.
*Nothing* beats that. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Almost every EDGE cover kicks those out of the water... The WIP3OUT cover by Designers Rupublic was awesome.
- schizogony, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ha, I actually own #9!
http://www.games.net/features/images/116581_4.jpg
Next Generation was the greatest gaming mag of all time!
ALSO: EGM #100 should have been on the list. - ArmyOfFun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thought Next Gen was great during it's entire run. The rest of the general gaming magazines all cater to adolescents.
If you're looking for a replacement, Edge is basically the same thing but it costs a damn fortune in the US (it's UK based). Of course, there's http://www.next-gen.biz/ which carries the torch in a way (although it generally lacks previews/reviews). - tdhurst, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Or you could produce your own version of Digg for non US people. Your call.
- fluidfoundation, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think the nintendo power Castlevania 2 cover (google it) should get honerable mention for ballsyness at the time.
- Tikkimann, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think putting Army Men on the cover of Nintendo Power may have been the smartest thing they ever did. You know why? Because Army Men: Air Combat is the only army man game to get good reviews. Ever! See for yourself:
http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp
Now, what does this say about the N64? It says that the N64 is so powerful, it can make Army Men fun.
And THAT's really saying something. - Sababaaa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Seriously, I clicked on this article expecting to see all EDGE covers.... yet they don't even get a mention? What a joke. The author may have 2500 magazines from the past two decades, but that doesn't excuse him for missing out on the best gaming publication out there.
- gregdbowen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Ten Worst... what? heh? hello????
- hydroplane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1WRONG x12
- Talphin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Hey, this reminds me of my favorite thing to make people say!
Say "I LOVE GAME MAGAZINES" out loud 3 times fast, and see what your co-workers have to say about it... :P - miyamotofreak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1No Game Informer? They have gorgeous covers. The God of War 2 one comes to mind.
- Burvs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Those are rubbish. No classic Oli Frey Crash covers????
- Huangism, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0half of these covers could be the worst covers i have ever seen
- floppyparty, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1No PSM magazine covers? I loved PSM (PlayStation One era) and thought that the covers were always top of the line.
- atmanick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This was horrible...these covers were boring and the art work wasn't very pleasing this was a waste of my time. I thought I was going to see some cool covers. These covers are in my opinion some of the worst i've seen. Extremely boring not at all eye catching and really why is someone digging this guy's opinion?
- malikye187, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That was utter CRAP
- retrolab, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Yet another ***** list.
=/ - Xim123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Are you sure this wasn't a collection of the worst covers. At least 12 random issues of UK magazine Edge would have been worth spending time looking at
- phazon88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Those were incredibly lame. There are sooo many better covers than those.
- samuella, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0the best covers? not the worst!

http://search.ashtech.info/games - kmb1794, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What about the magazine with Mario played by Ron Jeremy on the cover?!
- ConfusedAmused, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0And by best, you clearly meant worst, right? How does this hit the front page? Seriously?
- Antimatt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0The first year or two of Next Generation was perfection. Over time, interviews with developers were replaced with polygonal boobs. After they sold out, I never bought another issue of any gaming magazine. Is there a current equivalent of what Next Generation used to be?
- melonhedd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0They aren't.
- shiben, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2i will literally kill each and every1 who digged this crap
- Moloy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Hooray, it's another top n list of [insert random crap here]
