- themagicnote, on 07/01/2008, -0/+81missing from the SimCity 2000 description is the ability to UNLEASH NATURAL DISASTERS.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -4/+67wow no Civilization at all in there??
- nailPuppy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+52Evil Genius but no Dungeon Keeper?
- jflowers45, on 07/02/2008, -2/+47glad to see Black and White get some love
- B3000, on 07/01/2008, -1/+43Populous should be much higher on the list and roller coaster tycoon should not be on there at all - not because it is a bad game mind you, it just doesn't fall into the category of God Game (although arguably, neither do the Sims)
- snagamike, on 07/02/2008, -1/+40Why is Populous so low on the list, and why does The Sims outrank Sim City 2000?
- ThePenrod, on 07/02/2008, -3/+42Umm... Actraiser?!?! Civilization? This is a terrible list.
- MCA2142, on 07/02/2008, -7/+40Simcity = you are a city engineer
Settlers = Straight up strategy game
RollerCoaster Tycoon = You are a Theme park designer
Evil Genius = You are an Evil Genius
So many non "God Games" in the list.
If we go by this list, Chess should be a God Game. - erichw1504, on 07/02/2008, -0/+25What about Doom? There was a God mode.
- pentupentropy, on 07/02/2008, -3/+25I thought Catholicism was the best God game ever.
- kinggimped, on 07/02/2008, -0/+17Buried for lack of Actraiser/Civ.
Also, 'sequel'.
Also, it's a bit dumb that number 2 is labelled number 1, and that the number 1 game HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET.
Also, whilst SC2000 was a superb game and totally worthy of making the list, Sim City 4 with the Rush Hour expansion is the best, most in-depth and complex, and most satisfying game of the Sim City franchise. 2000 was a revolutionary God game in its own right, but SC4 is where it's at. Funny how 8 out of the 10 games are over 5 years old, and 1 of them isn't even out yet.
I love God games. I didn't love this article.
Meh. - paulwalker71, on 07/02/2008, -0/+14Seems a bit stupid putting a game at #1 (albeit jointly) that hasn't even been released yet
- swollentiki, on 07/02/2008, -0/+14Buried a inaccurate. How can a game that hasn't even been released be number 1? Even though there is a lot of hype around Spore, that doesn't mean its one of the best right now. Only time will tell that AFTER it's been released and played by the public.
- YoWhatDaFuxUp, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13Dungeon Keeper was a bad ass game...
- tr0y85, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1411.) Utopia (1982)
10.) Populous (1989)
9.) Black and White II (2005)
8.) The Settlers (1994)
7.) Zeus: Master Of Olympus (2000)
6.) SimCity2000 (1993)
5.) Roller Coaster Tycoon (1999)
4.) The Sims (2000)
3.) Evil Genius (2004)
2.) [Cleverly doesn’t exist]
1.) Darwinia
1.) (Possibly Upon Release) Spore (2008) - Risingashes, on 07/02/2008, -0/+11Any list, person, site or mineral that lists B&W2 as better than B&W forfeits all present and future rights to judge anything and everything.
Unfortunately all games listed by this 'thing' are now called in to question. - lbeaty1981, on 07/02/2008, -0/+11City engineers can unleash natural disasters upon their creations? Damn, I'm in the wrong line of work!
- gavin422, on 07/01/2008, -6/+16I'm pretty surprised that games like Darwinia and Evil Genius ranked ahead of Sim City 200 and The Sims. I know Maxis's popularity helped these titles a lot, but it's obvious that they both did a lot to redefine the genre, and they should be ranked higher.
- Sarevok9, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9Buried for not having actraiser
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -3/+12Because the article was written by a stoner. And he clearly didn't proofread.
- ELCad, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8I'm pretty sure Populous was not released on NES, but I may be wrong. I had it on SNES and most of my friends had it on Genesis. It was even on the TG16 and the Master System.
- Nekura20x6, on 07/02/2008, -2/+10I can't believe Afterlife isn't on the list. It was an early Lucasarts game where you controlled the zoning of Heaven and Hell. Absolute classic...
- MrDarkSim, on 07/02/2008, -2/+10I preferred Black & White to the sequel. More lands, miracles, side quests, and internet play beats having soldiers. Hopefully the next thing Molyneux releases won't have that 'dumbed down' feeling.
- Zaggynl, on 07/02/2008, -1/+9Agreed, BURIED CRAPPY LIST.
Evil Genius is an utter piece of crap compared to Dungeon Keeper >:( - Fozefy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8Yes, and why the hell would they put games like that on the list without including any of the Civilizations series....honestly.
- AwesomeMonster, on 07/02/2008, -1/+9No Actraiser? Boo.
- thelastjay, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6Anyone remember Startopia? :D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Startopia - mattomondo, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7Evil Genius was a fresh new concept, but turned out to be a pretty mediocre game. I don't see how they could rank it above Sim City, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and The Sims.
- adnerb06, on 07/02/2008, -5/+11why are there two #1?
- warsongs7, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6I agree. Clearly Civ is more of a god game than Roller Coaster Tycoon.
- curseoflou, on 07/02/2008, -3/+8i wouldn't really consider RCT a "god game", but i did enjoy designing roller coasters that ended in death and carnage
- Coffeedemon, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Thats Actraiser if I recall correctly.
- Kn1ghtmare, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5This list is ridiculous, how can a game that isn't out and hasn't been played by the list creator make #1? I'm excited about Spore too, but giving it #1 based purely on hype is silly.
- luke16, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6I still remember the day when my amazing future city got attacked by a giant floating spider robot in Sim City 2000.
- johnnyzero, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5my main problem with the original B&W was that the controls were completely impossible and your pet never ever did what he was instructed to do.
Save the villagers! No! Stop eating them! Don't throw them into the ocean! Please!!! Just save them! ooh never mind, just go throw some more poop at the village. - ReligionIsBad, on 07/02/2008, -5/+10EPIC FAIL!!!!!!
No Actraiser? Is he insane? - f4nt0m4s, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5You might not be able to play "god" per se in Roller Coaster Tycoon, but you can play the roll of the horrible dictator; I know I used to build little death camps and drowning lakes. If I got bored I would drown guests or send them on a power launched ride into a wall. It only got better in RCT3.
- kataztrophy, on 07/02/2008, -2/+7My introduction to the God genre was the NES port of Populous. It's still a very fun experience now.
- cave, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5Buried for annoying Spore hype.
- shutaro, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4I preferred Black & White because I could do lots of smiting. Especially of people who did not believe in me... Question my existence, will you?!? Into the volcano with you!
- Risingashes, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4B&W was a far better game. The AI in B&W2 was horrible and the enemies didn't even have an opposing god- whoever made that design decision should be pelted with rocks.
If I wanted to burn defenseless ants with fire I'd go outside. - bcrich999, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Is that M Bison on the Evil Genius cover?
- Panda200x, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Dugg for Sim City 2000
- zwaldowski, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4How about sending your peeps to Hell? I built underground paths and accidentally removed part of them while they were on them.
Then they started to fall...
down...
down...
Bwahaha!
down... - sovietninja, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5The Sims becomes a God game once you torture your Sims into worshipping you. Like finding out what they fear the most and creating a room with no doors or windows with their fear sitting right next to them, clowns and such. Then you will feel the power you have over your digital minions, only you can set them free, MUAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!
- sovietninja, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4OR you could just have your beast take a crap on their houses, and use their sheep as toilet paper. I always rewarded my beast for chucking people into the netherworld. Wasn't the hand like cursor the creepiest thing ever?
- je12u, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4easily the best part of the game
- MCA2142, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Dugg. I loved that game waaaaaaaay back when.
Also loved the ads in PC Gamer for Afterlife. Thanks for a good reminder!!! - ozymandias2012, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Hard to believe I actually remember playing Utopia, though I never felt like a god.
