- mittortz, on 12/13/2008, -3/+168Dead Space was not a disappointment... it wasn't even hyped! More of a surprisingly capable horror game, especially coming from EA.
I loved it, it gets my vote for the underhyped gem of the year (apart from the little downloadable games). - RedStormRising, on 12/13/2008, -1/+151Me when I got Spore:
"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!"
*1 hour of gameplay*
"Awwwwwwwwwww..." - Sornos, on 12/13/2008, -2/+124Spore is at its rightful place. Compared to the older concept videos shown at various game conferences, the released version looks, ironically, like a proof of concept build.
- CynicSight, on 12/13/2008, -5/+121Why the hell is Dead Space on that list? That ***** owns and did better than the hype.
- apothekari, on 12/13/2008, -18/+121If you could put consoles in the list I'd put the Wii in.
In January I was absolutely stoked and talking ***** to any 360/PS3 owner I knew.
By April I had gobbled up all the good games and was getting discouraged by the 3rd party offerings I was getting.
By July I was utterly disappointed by release after release of PS2 ports and BAD Wii versions of games on other consoles {SW Unleashed/Alone in the Dark}
In September I got a 360 from a friend and never looked back.
The Wii in my house sits unplugged and un-updated since.
I can't even use it to Surf the Web anymore because it's browser sucks soooo bad with its Ancient ass flash support.
I am at the point that I believe the Cube was 2x the experience of the Wii,And I was MUCH happier with it overall and NEVER had such a long period of utterly NOTHING to play.
And I swear to god if One more ***** mentions ***** Animal Crossing to me...As if it's some sort of second coming of ***** God, I don't give a ***** to spend my hard earned gaming time with the aborted love child of The Sims and Pokemon meet Richard Scarry's "Busytown"!
I am an adult! I like to have my mind challenged by Epic tales and Adventure and maybe a little skin and bloodshed.
WTF happened to you Nintendo. - gizmo12688, on 12/13/2008, -7/+103Mario Kart Wii is still pretty ***** enjoyable.
- latova, on 12/13/2008, -0/+65Step 1: Buy Half life 2
Step 2: Start game
Step 3: type in console
sv_cheats 1
give weapon_physcannon
physcannon_megacannon 1
Step 4: Tah dah, play an entire original game where you can throw around enemies as much as you please. - Misterberu, on 12/13/2008, -2/+40I agree with everything on the list except for Dead Space... Dead Space was awesome.
- ashes0, on 12/13/2008, -13/+48Mario Kart Wii? Really?
How can the third best selling game (according to vgcharts) be considered a disappointment?
Obviously people like it and its got pretty high ratings just about everywhere.
Fun game, shouldn't even be on the list much less ranked third. I think the guy just wanted to throw in a Nintendo game. - WheezyMustafa, on 12/13/2008, -9/+43I dont know if the Force Unleashed should be at #2 -- Sure the game wasn't as epic as everyone anticipated, but the fact that you could throw storm troopers and wookies around never got boring to me.
Pretty accurate list otherwise tho. - SublimeRuin, on 12/13/2008, -2/+31This looks to me like Wired covering their own ass after OVER HYPEING most of the games on this list....
- Meestafa, on 12/13/2008, -1/+30i wish i could get my money back from spore
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -7/+34How the ***** is DeadSpace on that list?!?!
It was a great game! :|
Buried due to fail. - NinjaJoshy, on 12/13/2008, -0/+26I kept playing and playing while thinking the fun mode is just around the corner.
- dha07030, on 12/13/2008, -9/+34I was pretty disappointed by Far Cry 2. Anyone else?
- FranzySF, on 12/13/2008, -1/+25Dead Space was one of the best games of 2008.
- DismantleRepair, on 12/13/2008, -1/+23Disagree with Dead Space, that should be one of the most surprising games of the year.
And disagree with Prince of Persia to some extent. When will people realise that the Elika-saving-you mechanic is exactly the same as a checkpoint system, but without the immersion-disrupting "GAME OVER" screen and resulting load times? - iamacea, on 12/13/2008, -1/+20Going against the crowd with your top ten list doesn't mean it's a good top ten list. Mario Kart, Dead Space, and Force Unleashed? Really? Although, Age of Conan was a disappointment.
- rjejr, on 12/13/2008, -1/+20I think that's the definition of disappointing.
- DeadBabySoup, on 12/13/2008, -0/+16I liked dead space for the fact that when you beat it, you could start over with all your old ***** and continue to upgrade your weapons until you beat it again. So if you stopped at chapter 7, your missing out on making your line gun as wide as a hallway or the military suit. And if its not scary enough, your not playing on impossible.
- Tyrghast, on 12/13/2008, -0/+15Personally, they need to give Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast a makeover and voila! instant bestseller.
- ClevelandBrown, on 12/13/2008, -1/+15It was unbelievably repetitive. The convoy missions were so easy because they just kept going in circles, and I grew weary of the African landscape after a while. I stopped playing after the 2nd act, and I don't really feel like beating it.
- GliliumHkY, on 12/13/2008, -0/+13Dugg for Spore at No.1.
- doshindude, on 12/13/2008, -7/+20Guitar Hero World Tour definitely makes that list.
- eastsoccer19, on 12/13/2008, -0/+12kinda funny how most of those games are up for GOTY awards.
- reuscel, on 12/13/2008, -2/+14Dead Space and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (except for the awful star destroyer level) are fun as hell.
- CynicSight, on 12/13/2008, -1/+12Spiderman: Web of Shadows should be on that list. I was looking forward to that game only for it to suck.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+11So all we needed was a HL2 mod and we would have had Force Unleased?
Well ***** me. - eddygoombah, on 12/13/2008, -1/+12Dead Space is on the list? I mean it wasn't innovative or anything, but I really enjoyed it, and I don't remember that much hype surrounding its release. So I don't know why it's on the 10 most dissapointing games of 2008.
- wreckosaurus, on 12/13/2008, -4/+15Dugg because spore is #1. I just bought it wednesday, by thursday I was bored with it. I plan to give it to a friend who has a young child that might actually be entertained by it, but because of their ***** DRM I doubt it'll even work on his computer. Also, apparently I now have secuROM installed on my computer somewhere. ***** *****.
- haentz, on 12/13/2008, -2/+12I was kind of disappointed by GTA IV. Good game, sure... But for my taste to serious and not as funny as the previous installments. Plus San Andreas had a waaaaaaay larger and more interesting map.
Spore is where it belongs, though. - CandidateZero, on 12/13/2008, -2/+12Why shouldn't he state his disappointments again? Because he could've put his Wii up for sale instead? Maybe it's not worth the hassle. It's not his fault the Wii doesn't have any games.
- mstachiw, on 12/13/2008, -1/+11E3 2008 should make honorable mention. The worst E3 ever. They should just get rid of them then hyping up nothing.
Internet gaming info has gradually been killing E3 and 2008 was the year it but an axe in its chest. - osko2052, on 12/13/2008, -0/+9Agreed!!!
- VII7, on 12/13/2008, -2/+10hey man lets add dead space so my site will get a few more hits
- Cdog923, on 12/13/2008, -0/+8Dead Space and Mario Kart Wii being on this list means List = *****.
- patFX, on 12/13/2008, -0/+8I haven't stopped playing Mario Kart since it came out, I was surprised to see it on this list.
- ashes0, on 12/13/2008, -5/+13Fore real, how can the third best selling game (according to vgcharts) be considered a disappointment?
Obviously people like it and its got pretty high ratings just about everywhere.
Fun game, shouldn't even be on the list much less ranked third. I think the guy just wanted to throw in a Nintendo game. - Misterberu, on 12/13/2008, -0/+8So what? L4D was repetitive, Bioshock was repetitive, GTA4 was so unbelievably repetitive... all games are repetitive... it all comes down to what you enjoy. If you enjoyed the action in Dead Space, which I did, then you wouldn't mind its "repetitiveness". If you never liked the action in first place, then you were stupid for actually buying the game.
- 42Vindictive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+9I recently beat it on the PC (using the 360 controller). It was a great, atmospheric game. Yes, it was short, but the content had me racing for the full 8 hours.
- Chainheart2, on 12/13/2008, -3/+11Disappointing has nothing to do with quality. Disappointment has to do with expectations. Quit trying to weasel your way out of it with semantics.
And by the way, Spore was not a good game. It was simply decent. - 42Vindictive, on 12/13/2008, -2/+10As much as I like and respect Nintendo, the ball they started rolling with the Cube became a giant boulder of doom. Everlasting shovelware and children's games... Steered me away from my N64, been console hopping since.
- SplitHeavens, on 12/13/2008, -3/+11Dead Space, Prince of Persia, and Mario Kart?
No. Just no. - FriedTurkey, on 12/13/2008, -0/+7Spore got over hyped by everyone. I didn't understand why everyone was looking forward to it despite having no idea how it will play.
- Alanamaslama, on 12/13/2008, -1/+8I agree. Even though Guitar Hero's solo guitar mode is the best of all music games, the tour campaign and multiplayer modes were extremely lackluster. In direct competition with Rock Band 2, that's pretty much everything.
- ClevelandBrown, on 12/13/2008, -6/+13What do you expect? Nintendo caters best to children, stick with your 360.
- worseforwine, on 12/13/2008, -0/+7I'm playing it right now and I love every second of it! I also loved CoD: World at War, which just got mediocre reviews. I guess it goes to show that video games are totally subjective and you might love something everyone else didn't. I know my brother in law loves Mirror's Edge which I thought was terrible.
- Titan615, on 12/13/2008, -1/+8I played Far Cry 2 for like 3 hours before I got Fallout 3. I then played Fallout 3 for about two and a half weeks. I tried to go back to Far Cry 2 but it just didn't seem anywhere as near fun as Fallout 3. I tried to play the game but it wasn't fun anymore.
- TaySavesTheDay, on 12/13/2008, -1/+7Agreed completely. I was really surprised to find Dead Space on this list. It is definitely one of the scariest games I've ever played and it was really fun at that. I have beaten it three times so far (once on impossible) and even now, I still have fun with the game when my friends come over. I'll just sit back and watch the terror in their faces when the necromorphs bust through a vent and scare the ***** out of them.
- RealDealRick, on 12/13/2008, -0/+6That's why you rent first.
