Block land was fun for a while... Games Knoppix has dozens of games that are
1) REALLY free (much of the list had paid games... on a "free" list)
2) most are multi-platform (almost all Games Knoppix games worth playing have been ported to Windows).
3) Can be played on almost any system that has a DVD drive just by booting a DVD! Or just use the older Games Knoppix and boot using a CD.
Don't misunderstand me. This isn't about open source at all. Free as in no monetary cost is what I'm talking about here. That list is one of the worst lists of ANY games, free or otherwise that I have seen.

Even on my Windows box, I have about 8 of these games that are featured in Games Knoppix. As I said - several have been ported.
This list and digg story is garbage. Download.com has a better list of free games (for Windows anyway) - just sort by user rating or popularity.

They make some really cool games that doesnt not require an arm and a leg of space. The thing is their server is really slow and refusing to download. Digg++

Even if only 10 of the 101 games are good, that's 10 new games that you don't have to pay a penny for. True, there may be a few that require some money down the line, but you can at least squeeze a few hours of fun out of most of the games.

Cash Crate is an online “Get Paid To” (GPT) program where you complete offers and surveys and get money in return. I can HIGHLY recommend Cave Story, especially to anyone who misses the glory days of 2D platformers
Also, Mount and Blade is awesome, but be warned, it's a demo (ends when your character reaches level 6) and, it has a protection system similar to StarForce, albeit not nearly as bad as that malodorous piece of ("%&.. still, be aware that it is there, even on the demo. -
