Not that it didn't make sense from a business standpoint, but rather from the perspective that: If you want to make your console an media hub then better let people get decent amounts of storage for prices that are actually worthwile considering... even Sony got that right...

      The xbox is a very locked down system only using ms vendor specific hardware.

      It's a bad choice but very typical of MS to reinvent the wheel and not using standards that are already set. It's been the same business with Windows or Office or IE or any other products they have created. It is also the biggest reason to avoid using MS products.

      While I am sure they enjoy selling overpriced peripherals to 360 owners I would also imagine that security plays a roll in them limiting the storage devices that can be read and written to by the 360. There was a lot of trouble with hacks / mods on Halo 2 for the original Xbox which were possible because people could easily get data from a PC to an Xbox. Microsoft probably wanted to create the biggest barrier they could to prevent hackers from compromising the system and thus the experience of Xbox Live.

      Still I wish they could have dealt with hacks in a different way or priced their peripherals more reasonably.

      So while this is cool, it's too much hassle for something that isn't really necessary.

      I'm not expecting my comment to be popular, but just be smart about what you store... want music and videos? Use a freakin' PC instead.

    I'm glad this finally came about. The Xbox360 Hacking community has been waiting for a tool like this. Now it should be interesting to see if this can be built off of.

  • Zero2aHero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10This doesn't allow you to install a SATA of any size you want. Your hard drive can still only be the maximum size of the MS hard drive. So in the future if Microsoft releases a 120gb hard drive then this hack will allow you to use your own 120gb SATA without having to use Microsoft's official one. Yawn.
    • Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, considering that MS is charging $100 for 20 gigs ($5 a gig), while a 120 gig notebook drive goes for $90 ($0.75 a gig) -- this is a big deal. I'm guessing that when MS releases their bigger hard drive, it won't be a $5/GB ripoff, probably something like $200-250. In that case, this hack will save you well over 100 dollars.

      BTW, without a hacked kernel, it's difficult to see how any workaround would allow you to use the full capacity of a hard drive. After all, with only one supported peripheral, the X-Box would have to know something was up if the capacity was larger than 20 gigs.

    A bigger HArd Drive so i can truly utilize the 360 as an extender on my VISTA or MEDIA CENTER PC !!! And download more than 2 movies !! Jesus my ARCHOS and IPOD have 20 gigs for pete's sake ( ROLL EYES ! )


    Basically without XBOX LIVE ( first GEN ONLINE SYSTEM SETUP) The 360- would be the Cheese Grader it looks like and you Xbots would have nothing to hold on too far as an arguments sake. But that will soon come to an end once PS3 Free ONLINE NEtwork takes off by MARCH , IN FULL EFFECT :)

Please stop whining about price, because if you cannot afford a PS3 now, then you can't afford a 360 and your paper route money will need to be hoarded for a month to get your Wii... though the way they're shipping means you won't get one for a month anyways...

    There are USB ports on the xbox360. Look at the back of the box and you'll see them. How else should you be able to hook up your iPod to the 360?

It really stinks how they create an artificial price for what should be a commodity item. 99 bucks for a 20GB harddrive is obnoxious. I really wish someone would tell some MS people that to their face in some of these interviews.
