- Crash1337, on 08/04/2008, -1/+91You cant blame it all on the parents, the guy is 18 years old, he knows what he is doing.
This guy is obviously a nut job. - lukemorris, on 08/04/2008, -1/+80Somewhere Jack Thompson is masturbating to this story.
- bluepill2, on 08/04/2008, -0/+63Replace the game with SPORE and watch some guy become a biological terrorist, engineering new virii strands. It's alllll the videogame's fault.
- duggtodeath, on 08/04/2008, -1/+55Yeah, I am sure that was his EXACT excuse. This is complete *****.
- jordanlgta, on 08/04/2008, -0/+43You want to know where the parents were? I'll tell you, but Reuters won't.

"I needed money to play the game every day. My parents give me only 100 baht a day, which is not enough. I am also fed up with them fighting. They are civil servants and do not make good money," he said.
"Today [Saturday] my mother gave me 500 baht, so in the evening I went to the Lotus superstore and bought knives." He flagged down one taxi near his house on Soi Charan Sanitwong 75, but the place was crowded so he did not make a move. He tried again and was picked up by Kuan, hoping the older man would not resist him.
When the taxi arrived at the destination, he pulled out a knife and held it against the driver's neck. He said he did not mean to kill him but the driver reached for a metal bar under a console and tried to hit him. He stabbed the driver several times, killing him, then dragged the body onto the back seat and sat behind the wheel.

Note to his parents: your parenting responsibilities didn't
end after giving birth to your son. - luag, on 08/04/2008, -0/+33Games affect people that much, eh?
Developers should be making a new type of games then!
Grand Help Angels, for example. Where you have to help the elderly cross the roads, help build homes for hurricane victims, donate blood regularly, help the government to spy on fellow citizens, support the government's attempt to liberate oppressed people overseas.............. - nullx42, on 08/05/2008, -0/+28Edit Edit*
Note to his parents: มาร์ทินม กราคม มงคลจักร ร์ทิ มดแดงแฝงพวงมะม่วง มธุ - uberduger, on 08/04/2008, -1/+28Oh God damn it. Now the crusade against videogames will start afresh. If you're enough of a retard to want to jack a taxi to see if it's possible, you're gonna do something like that eventually, game or no game.
- wexmajor, on 08/05/2008, -0/+22This article is *****. He didn't "confess" he "made up a ***** excuse".
- wexmajor, on 08/05/2008, -0/+21You know, I would play something like that if they did it right. All the satisfaction of helping people with out the bother of going out and actually doing it in the real world.
- OhSnapVince, on 08/05/2008, -1/+18Thailand: GTA banned, Child prostitution A-OK!
- noerrorsfound, on 08/05/2008, -2/+14Just because you raise someone right doesn't mean they will be a good person.
- razorc03, on 08/04/2008, -2/+14Over reaction by the gamer and by Thailand

- scratt, on 08/05/2008, -0/+9Living in Thailand I can make these comments..
The only thing this will achieve is more profit for a lot of game stall holders in Thailand.
The games will not be returned, but will go under the counter and will be sold at a premium.
In any case all 360 games are copies here. Only the PS3 ones are originals.
And the police will more than likely profit by extracting more 'fees' from stall holders.
Politicians will use it as an excuse for media attention while avoiding any of the real issues that face the country. - BlueSkyfish, on 08/05/2008, -1/+10Or replace it with pong and you get Rapey *****, the tapdancing clown from planet Zorlok.
Thats right jews, I took all your magic back! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT! - AzzidReign, on 08/05/2008, -2/+10Edit*
Note to his parents: your parenting responsibilities didn't end after getting laid. - ted510, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8In Thailand, the majority of people buy pirated media. That includes software, music, movies, etc. For example, you can get Leopard or Vista for less than $2 if you go to the right places. As for my opinion, the kid is just finding something else to blame and I think this will increase the game's sales.
- solboldi, on 08/04/2008, -2/+10parents don't make their children kill people. plenty of people don't have good parents and they don't kill anyone. stop blaming parents.
- JulyZerg, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7People like this are unfit for life...
- Gndoab, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7if it stops that from happening again, then i am all for it.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -8/+14Good work Thailand.
- DyceFreak, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6ignorance doesn't justify murder
- Fuktong, on 08/04/2008, -0/+6555
Yeah, good luck on stopping the distribution of the game. Sure, the legit gaming stores will stop selling it...but there's plenty of stores in Thailand selling copied games, people will just by those versions instead of the legal one. - Sp0rAdiC, on 08/05/2008, -1/+7I'm surprised he didn't cut the cab driver's head off too.
- aterimperator, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6@expert01
He was referring to an actual incident where a guy in canada stabbed someone to death on the bus, then when the bus was evacuated he sawed the head off the body. - staticneuron, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5"According to police, the youth wanted to find out if it was as easy to rob a real taxi as it was in Grand Theft Auto."
Am I missing something? - inactive, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6I don't think Digg gives a damn unless you video tape the act of lovemaking....
- Kanten, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6Sorry, but parents have a legal obligation to keep tabs on their children until they hit 18 or file for emancipation. 13-17 isn't a "get out of jail free" period.
- imbigdave, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5awesome.
- fas2, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4Damn, Reuters makes me furious.
- aterimperator, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4Or perhaps more importantly, one person out of millions committing a violent crime is not statistically relevant when there are vastly more than one person out of millions that commit violent crimes regardless of video games. Or that crime falls every time a GTA is released.
- zbeast, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4A man in the US shoots up a church because it was to liberal.

So when are they going to cancel these shows? - chrisinsocalif, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5Sounds like they are taking the American approach, shift the blame.
- aterimperator, on 08/05/2008, -3/+7That was in very poor taste.
- InYourWorld, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4jordanlgta: Thank you. That is some terrible journalism by Reuters.
- mnky9800n, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4He just watched law and order. He forgot that the argument doesn't actually work in the show.
- halogenik, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6yeh but if you're a parent and your kid kills somebody because he was trying to recreate a scene from grand theft auto then...
epic fail as a parent. - livejamie, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4This is spectacular, maybe now we can get Mr Thompson to move to Thailand.
- scottsutherland, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4I think we can all agree that none of this would have happened had he been at four or five stars.
- Ph03N1X418, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3And this is why we shouldn't share the video games with the developing countries. Silly bastards should actually learn to build a constructive society before they set about simulating it's downfall.
And what the hell? "Send money to Thailand, send money to Thailand, they're survivors of a tragic tsunami",etc, etc. Sneaky bastards spending the cash we send on video games?
- flmumb, on 08/05/2008, -3/+6I read the title and thought that Thailand (the country) stole a car after killing someone....
- aptanalogy, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Insanity might, though...
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Yep, you got it.
- medfreak, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3The might of a thousand GTA clones descend upon you.
- strikethemdown, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Oh great, more ammo for Jack Thompson.
no mental problems my ass. - RAGEdemon, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3One prick spoils it for the entire population.
The fault is actually with the authorities. They should recognize who is at fault. Mass punishment goes against basic human rights.
Hey, cars cause hundreds of deaths daily. Lets Ban All Cars.
Hypocrisy... they have heard of it. - cubbiesx, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3wtf does the description mean "replacing them with other games". i can't get my head around it for some reason.
