Those were the days... - pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Where the hell was the medic?
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Not just rocket jumping... rocket ballet. :)
- Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Speaking as someone who's not much of a gamer ... I might just become one. Looks fun. I shall warn the wife.
- RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Fantastic video, though it's hard to tell what's "real" and what's scripted for the demo video. (Heavies probably wont have a .5 second time-to-kill in the game)
- achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Dude, if you look closely they are playing on an updated version of 2fort4!!! awesome!
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I think one of the things that always kept me coming back to TFC was the sheer ridiculousness of it. I'm glad they decided to keep that element and make the game even more cartoony than it already was. Nothing has ever made me laugh more in a game than the scout running around clubbing helpless hwguys.
Now let's hope they actually release the damn thing soon. I've been waiting so long for it that I pretty much forgot about it. When did we first hear of this game? 2000? - daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Probably wasn't ready. They stated that the medic has gone through the most changes and been completely revamped.
Man, now THIS is a good looking game! I don't care what you say. A welcome change from the ultra-super-duper-photogenic realism that all recent "next-gen" FPSs have been going for. - uncontested, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Definitely getting this.
School be damned! - danjal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13It's soo good to see that they kept the oldest thing dear to me since TF1... Rocket jumping =)
- Prod_Deity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Man, that scout can haul ass.... also, wait for the 2:05 mark... "ping!'
I love it! - mashuppodcast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Yay! for use of the Wilhelm scream :)
- anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Now I'm glad they cancelled the old Team Fortress 2 with its Battlefield like graphics. This one looks way more fun to play.
- martbhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I'm in need of medical attention!
- tracker1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I remember that Quake 1 + Team Fortress what my first really good experience with multiplayer online gaming.. honestly, would love to have that back again... I played Doom1/2 and Heretic via MarjorBBS + Game Portal etc... but q1+tf on the net rocked.. I got about 4 hours of sleep that first weekend... Went to work the following monday tired with cramped hands, set for my game position not the natural typing mode... lol it was great.
- jizzimmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They better not mess with concs.
- ActiveMatx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I believe it was 1998
- r3dx0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8get a high-res trailer here: http://download.thecrazyhunters.de/Downloads/Game-Movies/TeamFortress2GCTrailer@TheCrazyHunters.zip
- sjm20k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I cant wait for this. Valve has really done no wrong in the last few years. The art direction in this is really phenominal - you dont see online shooters with style like this very often; its a breath of fresh air.
- angulion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8What I missed a little was the red laser dot from snipers that existed in Quake Team Fortress.. Was always an adrenaline rush running past a wall filled with searching red dots.. :)
- zeeneo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+82fort, excellent! love the ending!
- Prod_Deity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10This is what I have been waiting for! I'm a Team Fortress junkie left over from HL1. NOW I'll drop the cash to Valve.
- TheRevisionist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Get out of the respawn!!!
- jasyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6amen to that. a big grin cracked my face when those soldiers just went and flew through the air. =)
- thekubrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What a GREAT job they did. They stood true to what made TFC so great, if not the ideal FPS.
I loved TFC, and I think its absolutely the best FPS out there. Think about it. Nearly every FPS involves only skill to be good at it. Whereas TFC was more than about skill, it was about strategy and team work. And it left enough room for you to be the hero of the game (eg Capture the Flag). What really launched this game was the various characters your could play. If you ever got bored, just switch character type and its almost like an entirely new game because not only do you obviously have different skills/weapons, your entire strategy and role in the team is different, despite it being the same game/level.
I'm definitely going to buy Half Life 2 JUST for this mod. Its absolutely worth it. When I bought HL1, TFC was the only game I would play. Its THAT good. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wonder if the Xbox360 version will be comparable to this... I realize that a $400 console won't be able to fully measure up to a $3000 state-of-the-art PC, but I hope it comes close.
- loof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4HLDM: Source was wicked fun it just didn't have enough maps.
- Volatile, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I've been waiting for this game for a while. I'm glad they went Incredibles style on this one. And uhh...rocketjumping? Sh*t...I'm in! :D
- gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5now i cant wait to play it vs. Fortress Forever
- Mr_Digglesworth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Did you catch that the guy he took out was a pyro (aka that annoying guy making everything laggy)?
- mamasu4u, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4w00t w00t to all the 2fort snipers out there!
This may be reason enough for me to buy a macbook pro and install windows on it. - skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you are interested, Valve also released another trailer for Team Fortress 2, along with new trailers for HL2 Episode 2, and Portal, their new game.
http://digg.com/gaming_news/New_Half_Life_2_Episode_2_Portal_and_Team_Fortress_2_Trailers_Available - Sp4nk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Indeed. It'd be sweet if the little things, like their facial expressions, are in the game.
- thekubrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too cartoony? That's kind of the point. This isn't about realism like Counter Strike. Obviously not. The reason I prefer this type of game over other FPS is that its different. Games like Quake/Unreal/CounterStrike depend almost entirely on skill and often you computer/network.
This game is different because there are so many ways to play. So many variables. It still has the same basic traits of a FPS, but it adds "fun" to it.
As for the original TF2, I disagree. That REALLY sucked. It had nothing to do with TFC at all. It was almost not different from other FPSs. It took out all the regular characters and made them almost all similar. The main point behind the new TFC and the old one are the characters. The weapons and skills they have are what makes this FPS unique and allows you to try new things every time, even if you play the same map with the same people...... - Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Abartour Yea as most people know the game is nowhere near finished yet. They are extending the release date to Q1 of 2007 now -_-.
But i dont mind, hopefully the more time they have, the less updates they'll have to release :P
Uber cool vid, it was released a while ago now. I love the soldiers concing ^^ - LordJezo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I noticed that too. Them putting that in there is a great nod and little joke for those of us who get it.
I wonder how many other videogames have it in there. Anyone know? - lolwtfhaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When will consoles support mice? They take USB for crying out loud. I tried to play Halo with a mouse. No joy. Bastards.
- Mr_Digglesworth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh man, please let there be conc jumping. I used to love jumping up the elevator with the flag on 2forts... Newb: How the hell did he get passed us?!
- GunFingers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We'll know soon enough. Valve will be debuting the 360 versions of HL2, Episode One, Episode Two, and TF2 at the end of September at Microsoft's X06 event.
- jeet404, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow I am sorry but I beg to differ don't get all ***** like OMG PC IS TOTALLY ROXXORS!!
Have you seen the stuff 360 can pull off that's alone tells me, that this game will be a piece of cake for it. I am saving money now cause this game will cost me twice once for Xbox360 and for PC. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks great
- thekubrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know he was invisible in the trailor, but is that how it will really be?
In TFC being a spy simply meant that you're base color was the same as the opposite team AND you could pose as another character. Example: if you're on the red team you could disguise yourself as a sniper from the blue team.
Thats the way it should be because thats what a spy does. Invisibility is not only ultra cheap, but it defeats the purpose. Killing someone when your invisible is lame. However tricking people into thinking you're on their team is another thing, which was the main fun aspect of being a spy. - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No, you're not. It's impressive, but I don't think it really fits the game.
- Thwarter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm soooo looking forward to this. Should be a great game, plus a great value with TF2, HL2 EP2 and Portal all in one.
One thing I wish they didn't change was making the Spy invisible instead of using undercover mode where you dressed up as one of the opponents. Seems like sneaking around dressed as the enemy and not getting discovered as a spy would be more fun than simply using invisibility. I wonder if he'll be totally invisible or have a slightly detectible presence.
Any word on when this will hit the shelves? - artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now that is the *****.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this a subtle comment on how Valve sometimes recycles game parts from game to game?
- KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love it already. The updated Fort2 theme is great, but I'm still kind of worried that the level looks a little too confined.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This game looks incredible! And I am not even a fan of FPS online or offline.
As for the animation and responsiveness, keep in mind that parts of this were cutscene like and won't be part of the actual gameplay (probably). Also, unless you are on a lan, don't expect this kind of responsiveness over the internet; an ideal 70 ms of latency can throw off even the best aimed shot. - deacont23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The Quake 1 TF + MegaTF mod + 2fort5 = LOTS of fun. I still prefer it over HL1 TF.
I remember having a 300ms ping and thinking it was good, and the people with under 100ms were king cause they had ISDN or something. hah - saudama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lovely trailer. I'll be watching this game. Does anyone know when it'll be out?
