- MikeEnIke, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40That actually looks surprisingly good.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28The comments are even funnier than what this Digg is about.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23...Did you look through the whole thread to see the final product? It looks fine to me. Looks slightly textured, and not shiny. I'm wondering if you're only looking at the first set of pictures before the whole process is complete.

- decay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Haha, intresting forum members.
Pics on page 2.
The outcome was ok, black is still really sexy. - seaner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Here is another mirror index of the photos: http://www.5tags.com/2006/09/26/making-a-glossy-ds-lite-matte/
Here is the final product: http://www.5tags.com/wp-content/uploads/ds20.JPG - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19This pic ftw.

- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Either that or a time machine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12My black ipod is the same, small scratches and expensive cases were beginning to bug me, so I ignored the scratches and kept it around in my pocket, its scratched so hard, it almost looks like an even grey now.
If you don't wanna deal with the fingerprints and scratches, more power to ya. - FetalSage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Should have saved Page 2 aswell, that's where all the pics are.
- Gus1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I thought it turned out ok. Great thread though.
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10What he did (see page 2) looks almost like the Black MacBook. It really isn't that bad. Now the "Lost in Blue" mod is....

yuck - AHIGHERGOD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I did this to mine. Used super fine grit. It looks and feels like my black Macbook. I love it.
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7it may look even better if he shaves the logo off the front too, to get rid of the glossness around the edges and inside the letters. regardless, he did a really good job of it and i completely understand why this would be desired over a perfectly smooth one.
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the last comment is the best comment:
"Hay gays, what the hell is going on in this thread?" - n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The back of the PSP already has a matte finish and does not scratch easily. The front of the PSP is glossy but does not scratch easily either. I have had my PSP for almost a year and have not scratched it yet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the back kinda looks like ***** with the shiny area around the nintendo stuff
- kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Lol!
Ze goggles! Zey do nothing! - SnowBladerX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4REALLY fine grit sand paper and plastic polish is about the only way.
- Azap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3awsome, looks good, and the forum is a funny read...
how do i clean the screen?
try sandpaper, and steel wool for the tough screan. - Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That looks great. Bet you can't do that with a PSP. :(
- sketchydave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I highly recommend Ice Creme by Rad Tech. I scratched up my new video iPod and it worked really, really well. Essentially you polish it with a special cloth and creame. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of elbow grease. It took me a good half hour straight of polishing, but it was smooth as a mirror when I was done. Here's the link to the kit I bought that included the metal polisher:

Google around for other reviews, I don't want to spend to much time lest I look like a sales rep (sans commission) - JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4RTFA
This has nothing to do with a ***** CRT monitor - Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you, my friend, are not a smart person (your grammar gives it away). why would he get white if he wanted black albeit a different finish?
- Poco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Unfortunately, the site is dead and the duggmirror doesn't have the second page, so we may never know what it looked like in the end.
- JasonTheNerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone have any pictures of what this would do to a white DS?
- decay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2mods take away the fun :(
- bigtomrodney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What is the deal with all the pederast avatars on that forum? They need a few mods there.
- alias157, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This board is hilarious, 'Best Comment Ever:'
"Seriously, it looks great. It looks so great I'm considering sand papering my cat." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that looks too painful to perform on your own DS =(
- totalinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not bad, but there is no WAY I would do that.
- davymac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digging because of the forum comments...
- velvet396, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1eh looks like ***** - didn't even finish it - what, just ignore the gloss inside the logo?
how much time did he waste that he could've been playing it? - Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it looked better before but I can understand how scratches would bother some people.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I actually did that by MISTAKE on my Pure White DS that I imported a year ago.. it looked beautiful (like a DS lite, but bigger) ... and I put in my backback... the rest is history. Now, I'm trying to find out how to UNDO this mistake -- anyone knows how to bring the glossy feel back ???
- ra3ndy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can get 12000 grit sandpaper from a company called Micromesh. It's for polishing scratches out of glass and acrylic. You use it wet for best results.
- Tawni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would try to restore it before going for that look but I like preserving the original design of what I have purchased,
- Triumphe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hello, Futami.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0#0000 steel wool.
- BeanieSigel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Mildly amusing to some, I suppose...
For the unsuspecting ones, don't be fooled by that gaming forum's funny allure. Truth is, it is infamous for its censorship, group-think, intolerance to contrasting opinions, laughably abusive moderation and pathetically dorky posters that blindly kneel to them (as someone judiciously noted with the "pederast avatars" comment). It's sad that it has so much influence upon the Internet gaming community, really, but everyone in the know views it as a joke.
I'd vehemently recommend you NOT to become a member and to ignore the site altogether for your own good. There is so much dishonest elitism running rampant over there that the account validation process can take months anyway, and any free e-mail provider is instantly rejected. - shwilmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Triumphe
lol. So true. - MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -3/+3I'd have preferred to deal with the finger prints or just get a white one... I hate that matte look, same thing with the new macs - black matte is not that attractive unless it's got a little sheen to it or it's kinda semi-gloss.
- Lihtan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a technique I used to remove the texturing from a Logitech mouse, and bring it to a mirror finish:
• Take the entire device apart, you want to have just the bare plastic shell with nothing attached to it
• Get some 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper, with the paper wet, start sanding the texture off. Less pressure is needed on the edges of the plastic
• Frequently dip the paper in water, or rinse it under a tap to keep the plastic residue from clogging the paper
• Occasionally rinse the plastic shell off, dry it, and observe the change in the surface texture
• You're looking for a consistant dulling of the plastic surface, any areas that still look reflective will have some texture on them. The areas that have been sanded should feel much smoother as well
• Once the entire shell is smooth, you can start polishing it. When I did mine I only had a rouge stick (used for polishing metal) and a rag. Load the rag with some polishing compound and rub it hard into the plastic. Get the plastic warm if you can.
• The more you rub, the more the dull finish will fade away. Don't stop rubbing when it gets a bit shiny, keep polishing it and you can get a stunning mirror finish out it.
I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I've heard very good things about Novus plastic polish. It comes in 3 grades (cleaning/polishing, scratch removal, surface refinishing). I recommended it to a buddy of mine who used it to clean his headlights, and it turned out great.
http://www.novuspolish.com - kevinthedude555, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's nice, but there's no reason to sand a DS Lite down, especially one as sexy as that, when he could have just as easily washed his hands before playing.
It does look pretty sexy though, for being manhandled like it was. - pixelbend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have always heard that you can get superficial scratches off of an iPod with jeweler's polish, maybe it would work for a DS Lite too.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Fine grint + plastic polish. noted. TY. Will try and post about it on some forum too... not.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I would have grinded it down, till the whole thing broke, and then ***** on it...then sell it on eBay as a "Omg mario took a ***** on my DSL"
- xenixninja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You can clearly see the mat finish isn't even. If he wanted a professional look, he wouldn't used a circular move when sandpapering it, but back and forth.
Oh, and if you don't want fingerprints on your black DS Lite, get a cleaning cloth and wash your hands with water and soap before you use it. -
