- legoalert33, on 05/18/2009, -10/+124I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble-gum... and I'm all out of funding.
- murdockat, on 05/18/2009, -0/+923d realms wasn't the developer behind Commander Keen or Wolfenstein. Apogee may have published them, but id was the developer.
- michaelpinto, on 05/17/2009, -34/+112The concept art doesn't convince me that they were ever working on a real game - to me this sounds like the biggest vaporware scam in the history of videogames.
- RazorEye, on 05/18/2009, -0/+73Peggle: All Outta Gum Edition?
- Spamcan, on 05/18/2009, -3/+70Take-Two should throw together a new Duke Nukem game in six months and call it Duke Nukem Forever. It's just a name attached to a phantom blob of unrelated screen shots and sketches released over the past 12 years.
- Spanq, on 05/18/2009, -7/+66Except for the gameplay videos and dozens of screenshots that have come out since they were *****.
- ChinezePanda, on 05/18/2009, -0/+58no excuse for over a decade of "production" and still unreleased.
GOOGLE DID NOT EXIST at the time of the DNF announcement.
Let that sink in. - BongWaterSmells, on 05/18/2009, -1/+57It's gonna come out, and everyone will be like
"I wish it didn't"
It's not going to be mind blowing, game changing, live up to the 12 year under construction hype or fulfill the expectations of old fans. It's a major fail no matter how you look at it - serpentor, on 05/18/2009, -1/+48"pretty much completely finished" is a bit of a stretch.. "Significant progress" is perhaps more apt. A scattering of shots and short clips hardly designates a game near completion.
- Spamcan, on 05/18/2009, -0/+46Can it be Peggle?
- solmakou, on 05/18/2009, -5/+48Please just give us our DNF.
- Gloony, on 05/18/2009, -2/+35I predict the lawsuit will take 12 years to be brought to court during which time the judge presiding over the case will have changed 3 times, the charges 5 times and both sides' armies of lawyers will have produced around 2 documents.
The case will be unable to proceed, despite the fact 600 stenographers had been hired, as only 6 pieces of paper bought for the whole hearing. After 15 minutes judge will promptly pronounce his genius and declare America bankrupt to the audience of purple giraffes and the last person left alive that truly believes DNF will ever be released. - michaelpinto, on 05/18/2009, -1/+30Why not just take a game - any other game - and just swap one of the characters? That will take less than a month!
- doshindude, on 05/18/2009, -6/+31you obviously haven't seen all the leaked stuff...the game was pretty much completely finished.
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/46948/Duke-Nukem ... - mst3kcrow, on 05/18/2009, -1/+26You mean like what they did for Super Mario Bros 2 in the US?
- omar199, on 05/18/2009, -1/+26BALLS BALLS BALLS BALLS BALLS
- Platysquirrel, on 05/18/2009, -4/+22Did Not Finish
- osteor, on 05/18/2009, -0/+17wow, duke's quotes really work for whats been going on recently between 3d and take-two:
"What are you waiting for? Christmas?"
"Somebody's gonna freakin pay for screwin up my vacation. "
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0228246/quotes - inactive, on 05/18/2009, -0/+16The article was full of factual errors such as this (such as misquoting George Broussard). Buried.
- yuutokun, on 05/18/2009, -2/+18Its Jesus hard.
- freqhz, on 05/18/2009, -0/+16if those sadists at 3drealms had spent half the time they did policing their website forum for people who wanted to know when the game will be done, on the game instead, they would have
finished many years ago. all they had to was try. - cyclopssmiley, on 05/18/2009, -9/+24Take-Two came to kick ass chew bubblegum, and they're all out of gum.
- Malarie, on 05/18/2009, -0/+15Duke Nukem Forever is to videogames what Chineese Democracy was to music.. 12 years in the making and nobody cared at the end.
- rdaryl, on 05/18/2009, -0/+15... of STEEL!
- frumpsnake, on 05/18/2009, -0/+14Buried for claiming Wolf3D and Commander Keen were developed rather than published by Apogee.
Also to quote Ken Silverman, creator the Build engine (arguably the only thing that made DN3D interesting at the time):
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?th ...
"I wish them luck. I'm actually rooting for Take2 on this one. The reason is: 3D Realms hasn't paid my royalties since 2003, so I probably ought to be suing them, too. I'd be curious to know if other former employees have been treated this way. On the topic of 3DR shutting down, I would blame the management - George and Scott - for failing to see reality.
-Ken S." - ParticleMan420, on 05/18/2009, -0/+14ass chew is a seasonal flavor
- RandomNetUser, on 05/18/2009, -0/+14Wolfenstein 4D: Nazis in time.
- NATED066, on 05/18/2009, -0/+14That's nothing, I saw a joke about Duke Nukem Forever on an 18th Century woodcut.
- Charlotte_Web, on 05/18/2009, -0/+13Reading the article, it occurs to me that the management of 3D Realms could be driving the company into bankruptcy in order invalidate any contractual obligations to Take Two regarding DNF. As everyone is aware, 3D Realms doesn't have any other game franchises of significance these days, so if they felt this contract was particularly burdensome, just bankrupt the company, sell off the core assets to themselves (through another company), and be on their merry way.
Sorry, but DNF is simply too big of a name to simply go away quietly into the night. SOMEBODY will finish and publish DNF. - EdiD, on 05/18/2009, -1/+14http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VD1E0S1y58
- REsplin, on 05/18/2009, -1/+13What is "ass chew bubblegum" and why would someone want to kick it?
- TheInformer, on 05/18/2009, -6/+17Your face, your ass, I'll sue'em either way.
- Phi01, on 05/18/2009, -2/+13Google is still very new, its not such a big deal that they weren't around when it was announced. What gets me is that the human genome was mapped quicker than duke nukem was ever finished.
Either way, i support 3D realms in this, fair enough, they made some serious bad judgement calls, but George just wanted to deliver a kick ass game, and i can respect that.
If you ask me, i think the employee's should of carried on working at 3drealms after george retired them. They could work on the game on there spare time, and at least produce a good enough version to make us happy. Remember george announced a few weeks ago that DNF had hit a milestone, so they werent far from completeing it. - Mookeh, on 05/18/2009, -0/+10I dunno whether I should digg you for the great joke or bury you for stealing it from someone else.
- verkon, on 05/18/2009, -0/+10Well they published it, but for some reason the page says they made them. No love for id here.
- Vhaeos, on 05/18/2009, -2/+123D Realms published it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_Realms - inactive, on 05/18/2009, -4/+13I'm here to write checks that my ass can cash... and my pen ran out of ink.
- sulseeker, on 05/18/2009, -0/+9"Things are getting messy in Duke Nukem's neck of the woods over at recently closed down 3D Realms Studios. It was first reported on May 6th that 3D Realms, the developer behind classic games such as Duke Nukem 3D, Commander Keen, and Wolfenstein 3D, would indeed be closing their developing doors for good. The news apparently came down one day after 3D Realms celebrated the 17th anniversary of Wolfenstein 3D's release. "
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT.... AND I MEAN HOLD THE ***** BUS....
Since when did 3Drealms make Commander Keen and Wolfenstein 3D? - badenglishihave, on 05/18/2009, -0/+8Thank God 3D Realms wasn't responsible for Wolfenstein 3D. We would still be waiting for Wolfenstein 4D.
- origamistars, on 05/18/2009, -0/+8I'd play the hell out of that.
- inactive, on 05/18/2009, -0/+8I like this one: creation of the first atom bomb took less time than DNF...
- agentsrecord, on 05/18/2009, -1/+9It seems pretty clear 3D Realms is broke so a cash settlement wouldn't be paid out from this lawsuit. The only thing 3D Realms has of value is the Duke Nukem IP. Seems fair for Take Two to get the IP and make a decent game (not some 6 month piece of *****) as reward.
Hell, maybe Take Two knew this was going to happen and figured it would be a cheap way to gain access to a high profile IP. - inactive, on 05/18/2009, -0/+8And Galileo was ex-communicated from the Church for denying its existence.
- d2cole, on 05/18/2009, -2/+9or....not.
- NinjaGod, on 05/18/2009, -0/+7l2history
- Fwiffo, on 05/18/2009, -1/+83D Realms published it back when they were Apogee Software:
http://www.3drealms.com/news/2009/05/wolf3d_turns_ ... - Bulletbillx, on 05/18/2009, -0/+7Possibly. does Take Two have access to any good FPS developers?
- inactive, on 05/18/2009, -1/+8The thing is, I only ever think about DNF when I see stories about DNF. I think that's a pretty good sign that if it never gets finished I won't really care or notice.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 05/18/2009, -0/+7Graphically it was average, but Duke was hardly ever about bleeding edge technology. The whole point of the Duke Nuken franchise was character, and even just looking at the leaked screenshots makes it pretty clear DNF had it in spades. A monster truck? Saving hot babes? Duke owns his own casino? Titties? This was truly a modern Duke game, and it will be a real shame to see it all go to waste after so much work has already been done. Face, shrinking Duke down and driving around in a tiny Duke-kart would be fun as *****. Who cares if the graphics aren't up to some imagined Crysis standard. HL2 was released in 2004 and people are STILL eagerly awaiting Episode Three which will still be running on the same technology but for some feature updates. What matters is how fun the game is, and if you don't think DNF looks like a fun game by the leaked info then you just don't like Duke games and, as such, might very well be a communist.
- darkjolt, on 05/18/2009, -1/+8It's just a joke right? They'll release the game and we'll all laugh at this
