- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34People like money. GTA IV = a license to print money.
- Shawnosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25@doodirock2 "Um yeah, I doubt they would go through all the trouble of getting their company under new management only to make My Little PWNY."
Now there is a game that could make the $$! You trick out your pwny with bling, paint jobs, wacky mane do's, then step into the pwny battle arena. Fear my rainbow hooves of pestilence, bitch! - doodirock2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20This is actually some good news. With all the bad PR and screw-ups with stock, some new management could even help move things along. Clearly they are in need of some restructuring.
- doodirock2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Um yeah, I doubt they would go through all the trouble of getting their company under new management only to make My Little PWNY.
- jggr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I agree... GTA-IV will indeed be produced. I'm just worried it'll be a little on the 'safe' side this time around. Changing leadership, might take the edge away from the game, and kill the franchise.
- 98acura, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Uh oh, im sensing "Grand Theft Auto: Forever"
- swoosh_bnd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I don't really see how this could effect the release of GTA IV. I mean as long as they keep giving them money, they'll keep making the game. They might can some games that they don't see with much potential, but by no means would they cancel their most popular game that accounts for tons and tons of their profit. I sure hope the new management doesn't start going the EA method of releasing a roster update year after year with little to no improvements between games.
- DangerMouse9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Unless it's the Titanic, then they all run around screaming and drowning.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I still doubt that they put in the "hot coffee mod" on purpose at least at an executive level. I'm sure its more or less some programmer who thought it was funny and never took it out of the build.
- Appox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Doesn't take 2 have something to do with duke nukem forever, because I would hate for that game to be delayed
- keyrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Considering how far down the chain the devs are (Take2-->Rockstar-->Rockstar North), I doubt this will have any effect on creativity. As for money, Rockstar North is the bread and butter of the whole chain. You can make the inference yourself.
- JonahNYC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh? It could affect parts of GTAIV. Just turn off certain animations and abilities.
- Toast1185, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6These people aren't buying a large stake in a company to kick out management to make it a more moral company. They are doing it to make money, I doubt their highest grossing title will disappear.
- onionizer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I remember that when vice city came out there were giant ads all over the billboards or the city buses, other than TV and radio, pretty unusual for a single game title (even if really popular like gta), and I was wondering were they was taking all the money to do that...
by the way, long live GTA! - Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why would this affect GTA? GTA is a cash cow for take-two, I doubt any new management would even try to mess with it.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I have to command you"
lol - Exhaust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They could try and "tone it down" in order to try and reach a bigger audience. Or even more possible they would over saturate the market with mass produced crap games with the GTA logo stamped on them.
I'm a huge GTA fan. I own every single game in the series. I think there is alot that goes into making their games great. With a complex recipe if one ingredient goes missing the whole thing becomes crap or at the very least uninspiring bringing them down the "GTA clone" level of quality. How many "GTA Killers" have there been that sucked ass? Tons. It's not easy being sooo damn good. - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5GTA on the Wii would look so bad it wouldn't even be funny. I swear, the processing involved to make the WiiMote work must be much greater than we know. So far every game I've bought or played on the Wii looks no better than gamecube games to me. I literally see no improvement at all. If it was truly twice as powerful, shouldn't the games look at least as good as the XBox? The wiimote must be eating up tons of processing power, or the wii is even more underpowered than is being reported.
- Yoshi39, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes my son was innocently maiming people when decided to take a short break and surf the net suddenly he stumbled upon this mod accidentally downloaded and installed it and then watch in horror as the animated characters performed acts of love...
Seriously though how screwd up is a society when when expressions of love (or just fun either way) are considered foul but acts of extreme violence are considered ok. I have no interest in virtual sex however I am oppose all forms of censorship so in my opinion anything should be allowed to be show in any form no matter how morally repulsive some people might find it. - oldtimegamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Especially if you have your life saving or stock. When people see the ship headed to an ice burg, they either find a new captain or get the hell off the boat.
- stappawho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Grow a sack.
- Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4> I still doubt that they put in the "hot coffee mod" on purpose at least at an executive level.
Maybe. But I wouldn't get the idea that it was some idea a lone programmer snuck in in an afternoon of coding, either. Some team internal to the company came up with that. And implemented it. And then someone higher up thought a bit better of it. And half-assed retracted it.
Video games are under enough criticism without the maker of one of the best, and most violent, series leaving stupid ***** like this buried in the bowels of their code. - Exhaust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I love Rockstar... By far my favorite developer. GTA, Manhunt, Max Payne and Bully all awesome franchises.
I really hope this doesn't impact their creativity or edginess. Hopefully a huge corporation doesn't buy them like Fox Corp. Its very possible they'll try to "tone things down" to sell more copies but in turn ruin what makes their games great.
If GTA gets ruined and dies off some company will step up to try and take their place. Rockstar made sandbox games popular and that will never die. All sandbox fans can thank Rockstar for that.
Long live the Grand Theft Auto series! But if it dies Saints Row 2 anyone? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stupid question.
Of course not.
Rockstar would be a subsidiary of that company and most likely are allowed to operate as they always have. - codemonkey420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@tubejay: Like all first-generation titles the games aren't going to look sick mad crazy. Give that some time, although they'll never meet the demand of the hardcore gamer.
More to the point, the violence level in GTA is a bit beyond casual gaming, which is the target demographic for the Nintendo Wii. I'd not hold my breath to see a title like that hit the console, good graphics or bad. - lpmiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i don't see this affecting one of the few things actually making take 2 money.
- bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree on the VCS port. The textures seem incredibly strange(and dirty), I ran into 2 bugs that forced me to reboot(one freeze, one "suspended" Vic), and it just doesn't seem as good as Liberty City Stories for a port. I do like the checkpointing of the ambulance, vigilante, and firefighter missions.
- Exhaust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vice City Stories is a PSP port. A less powerful system.... did you expect San Andreas? If you did you're a retard. AND it only costs $20!
WAAAAH!
How does that have anything to do with GTA being in trouble? - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2PSP isn't particularly less powerful.
And the graphics are actually improved, there are textures which were just flat-shaded polys before.
It's just that the screen layout is completely messed up, and sometimes the screen just shakes for no reason.
It's a crappy port. I expected better for $20. I'd expect better for $8 (the price of an online game). - TDR25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't it be funny if a Conservative Right-Wing financial group brought Take Two secretly...wait, that wouldn't be funny at all!
- BOOFMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm still waiting for SMUGGLERS RUN 3...
- nubi78, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4This could be good, when GTA San Andreas came out, I had to buy the game *and* the PS2. My wife was pissed.
If the next GTA doesn’t come out on the Wii I will be totally *****.
Please, no more GTA games, save my marriage! - bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If any company buys out Take 2 and axes GTA, said company has essentially destroyed all profitability from that aquisition.
- WardenRant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As a stockholder of Take-Two Interactive, I was recently entitled to a shareholder meeting. New regulations and managers were voted upon, and hopefully I made the right choices.
- thomasdt12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They should obliviously make an Obliviion II. Or a GTA MMO...that would be interesting, get your friends all online and form a gang. Gang fights, pimps, HOs, man where can I sign up.
- riccohasdug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google SA:MP
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm still upset I paid for the first one. Arbitrary time limits for point to point races are awesome!
- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never understood the huge controversy over Hot Coffee when God of War (and God of War 2) have their own sex minigames and you never heard a word about it. And these weren't even snuck in! Add to the fact that all the games are rated M and I think you have a case of "we had to do something because the uninformed population of soccer moms thought that this was bad".
- BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are ***** in the sex shop during the mission to fall in love with that chick for the casino yet that never seemed to be a problem. In that same mission there is also a dido shaped like a penis and plenty of sexual dialog and moaning. So why was it such a big deal in a game where ***** and ***** are part of normal dialog to have a silly humping game? I can kill hookers, talk about drugs, watch people use drugs, (not that I disagree with the drug of choice for officer Ten Penny ;) and blow people's heads off but a retarded game of hump-the-girlfriend in a game rated for non-minors is too much?
Anyone too young for that content is not legally allowed to purchase the game, so let's drop the ***** and see what that little bitch-fest was all about. It was snatched up by politicians and their media to demonize a game they already had problems with. Crusaders against video games like Jack Thompson and other morally righteous people latched onto it as a way to hurt the video game industry as whole and GTA in specific. - minapolos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2LOL!!! I have to command you on the Duke Nukem joke. First good sarcastic remark on Digg in a while
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oh, yeah, I can see this happening.
I mean, why on earth would the company that buys Take Two want to continue production on one of the best selling franchises in the history of gaming? - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Bully was good. But GTA:Vice City Stories for PS2 is a crappy port.
So I'd say in a way GTA is already in trouble. - t2t2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Couldn't R* just find a new publisher to publish GTA IV? It's all about business.
- mfinn999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2>Time will only tell who this effects the release of GTA or other Take 2 Games
huh? who? effects?
I realize that submitters are falling all over themselves to be the first to post anything even remotely newsworthy, but would it kill you all to proof read your submissions? - bunnymanjp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1sony get ever penny u have and buy take two
what are your waiting for - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Or Jack Thompson is buying the company so he can destroy the GTA franchise. lol
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Like the animation for randomly humping things? Great game, but they were asking for trouble with that one.
- paotel, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5but please keep making GTA games
