- krawkula, on 10/12/2007, -2/+250Thats probably why he went nuts. You know how many psychopaths there were before video games were invented.
- krawkula, on 10/12/2007, -5/+149Honestly, if video games had any effect on us we would have taken Jack Thompson out GTA style years ago.
- moonhead, on 10/12/2007, -4/+119Well now its obvious, he must listen to Marilyn Manson.
- wonderchemist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+73Quick! Arrest all the people without video games before they kill!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+58But I was soo positive that video games are the cause of ALL violence!!!!
- MrStabby, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48This story is RIDICULOUS!
Everyone knows the only reason a person would go on a mall rampage is playing too much Barbie!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie_(video_game) - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42"Talovic did not even own a computer or a video-game system." -Well I think we found the problem.
- Louis11, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37@dailyco
There is a reason we don't have sigs. Blocked. - ArmandoM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28It is possible to do both.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Playing video games may not cause you to go on murdering rampages, but they seem to make people repeat the same joke over and over as a side effect. See posts above, below and here.
- discochew, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26Why does every digg discussion turn into an atheist circle jerk?
- sampson123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Read the article:
"And, in a move that will surprise none of us here, our good friend JT wasted no time in sending local reporters an inflammatory email titled "Salt Lake City Teen Probably Trained on Grand Theft Auto Video Game."" - paralleljay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16He didn't play video games? Oh *****! Now we need a new scapegoat. What about movies? No, eh? Tried it already. Ok, well how about heavy metal? They use images of the devil and promote satanism....oh so no one is buying that one either. I know! Dungeons and Dragons! That had to be the cause! I mean it has dungeons, and dragons, and all sort of medieval imagery. That would be enough to warp young minds. 30 years old you say? Fallen from relevance as an influence on youth due to the proliferation of electronic technology.
Well ***** guys, we're boned now. Looks like we'll have to get this kid a psychologist, and provide him with some real help. Damn, and I was looking forward to blaming more games that are more than a decade old, cause Doom is super realistic. - stonedgeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Are the sure? Maybe he lost it as he was walking by EB? Somebody should look into that.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14The detectives are members of a liberal media group that serves to fund terror simulation devices.
- discochew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@Billgoans
You'd be defensive if politicans were basing their platforms around how evil a hobby of yours is. Check, mate, yahtzee, uno, sorry, and do not collect $200! - lowerlogic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I wonder how JT will respond to this once he hears what the detectives have said. Any guesses?
- ruley, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14No, it was the liberal media!
No, it was metal music!
No, it was the gays!
the gays? yes, the get the kids into the malls - numptydumpty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Everyone knows video games don't affect children
"If Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music..." - Marcus Brigstocke - kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12whoa, what the hell, didn't know this was on digg, anyway, I live within about 7 miles from the shooting, and I was about to head down there to check out what was playing at their theater they have, funny thing is I wanted to leave about 20 min earlier, which would have gotten me stuck in the middle of all this
there were 3 people killed in front/in of the card games/ board games/magic shop, which is probably where I would have been waiting for my movie...
the shooter was bosnian, who (from what it sounded like, he just barely moved from there), and seeing how ***** up the place is with all the wars going on, it wouldn't surpise me if he wanted to die from what he saw. - Leadhyena, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Obviously he was playing too much Mall Madness. Jack Thompson should sue Milton Bradley.
- xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Maybe Jack Thompson should go after Muslims, they seem to be more violent than all the gamers.
Maybe Muslims should play more games, get out those underlying violent sexual frustrations on virtual opponents rather than real people. - discochew, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Sometimes I feel like the only way life is barable is when you look at it like its a satire.
Example:
Shooter had videogames=VIDEO GAMES EVIL!!!
Shooter DIDN'T have video games=VIDEO GAMES WONDERFUL!!!
How about Shooting occurred=NOTHING TO DO WITH VIDEOGAMES!!!
*bracing for horrendous down-digging for not saying something good about videogames* - AhmedOmran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8For the fun of it, I'd buy Hello Kitty Island Adventure, play it all day long, leave it running then go on a rampage. THAT'd give the detectives and psychologists something to think about!
- garg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Didn't == did not
- DirkBelig, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14@noreturn -
You're clearly ignorant of Sudden Jihad Syndrome, probably because the media diligently refuses to report when Muslims are involved in these attacks. A young man drives his SUV thru the quad of a college in North Carolina (IIRC) and even though he'd made jihad-oriented statements, the media wrote it off as his being a lone crackpot. A Muslim attacks a Jewish charity in Seattle, killing one woman and wounding five others, including a pregnant woman.
If a white, blonde, blue-eyed man shot up a Jewish organization, the media would be tripping all over themselves to make the Nazi connection, but if someone named Mohammad commits the crime, he's a lone crackpot. Ever hear of the American Taliban - a Californian punk who converted to Islam as a teenager - and is the lead spokesman for Al Queda propaganda tapes because of his fluent English?
As usual, the political correctness of Diggers overwhelms common sense yet again. While you make Jack Thompson jokes, the real questions as to why a immigrant would just snap and start killing innocent people are overlooked because if the answer is that radical Islam is being allowed unfettered room to take root and radicalize Muslims in America, that would challenge the weak and self-loathing mentality of the typically ignorant Digger. What is so frightening about the Truth that Diggers can't handle it? - Ark7, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Duh. He was a Muslim.
- WikiEasy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What I don't get is, how come the media NEVER blames violence on the news? You know, those 'serious' and 'informational' nightly broadcasts that depict actual violence on the boob tube?
- Murphious, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11And I think that would end badly..
- freehunter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@blue
Yeah, it's just as easy to block you, like I'm sure a lot of people have done. Is it really so hard to think before you speak, and open your vocabulary a little, so every other word you speak is not profane? It makes people take you a lot more seriously. - NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This deems further investigation. Maybe his parents played video games while he was in the womb causing him to be infused with violent blood. Yes, that must be it, there's gotta be video games associated with this somewhere. Don't give up Jack!
- quovadismax, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14 Instead of defending gamers. How about feeling sorry for the people who died and their families because of this wacko.
- discochew, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Headline:
Not owning video games leads to violence
CONSOLES FOR ALL! - vampiregabe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Oh, so they can "falsely" accuse him of playing video games, but they won't tell the truth and tell his religion?
Oh that fair and balanced new conglomerate we have in this country.
If Christian goes into a Detroit mall and randomly murders Muslims it would be a WORLD-WIDE event.
It would be shown on every television news show, and would go in detail about how Christians are constantly murdering Muslims all over the world.
The media is sick. - Gryph1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Yeah.. I found religion on the internet too =P
- freehunter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@blue
I never said I blocked you, I just said I'm sure a lot of people have. Yes, you were off topic, and yes, your comment was overly profane, but since I like to see the flow of discussion, I generally block very few users, and only when they are only commenting on articles to spam or create nuisance. I was not trying to sound pompous, and I am not saying you should sound like that, either, but, honestly, breathe before you type. - algoseek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5He was a muslim, foxiliednutjob
- VeryBoredNow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5FOX News Channel sure did it's homework.
You gotta love how every murder and psychopat is a terrorist nowdays. That kid was no terrorist, he was insane. (i.e. school shootings) He went crazy. He lost it. F*cked up in the head. Call it whatever you want.
I am a Bosnian myself and in my opinion killing 2 innocent woman, a 15 year old child and shooting two men that just came to shop does not make him any better than the Serbs that murdered and raped the Bosnian people.
This kid will be branded by the Media as a terrorist in a lot of peoples minds just due to his religion, when more than likely he did not kill in the name of God, and even if he did... no God (pick whichever one you want) from any major religion would allow this.
And for the muslim bashers on here just some quick education. In the Quran it clearly states that the BIGGEST SIN YOU CAN COMMIT is taking an innocent life. That means if your life or your familys life was not in danger you have no right to kill anyone. To quote prophet Muhammed (pbuh) :"Taking 1 innocent life is like killing of all humanity" - Now what REAL muslim would do something like that? - FLUX, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15No he didnt play video games!!!!
he was a Muslim with extremist views (ohh my god !!!!!) bet you did not hear that on your nightly news , that would not be politically correct
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54293 - KnytFyre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Each generation has it's scapegoat that people find it easier to blame than to simply accept that some aspects of the human race are just this screwed up. In the 50's this behavior would have been blamed on Rock 'n' Roll, in the 60's it would have been drugs, in the 70's to early 80's it was back to being music's fault, late 80's and early 90's it was violent movies and television, and starting in the late 90's it's been violent video games. I'm waiting on the next scapegoat to present itself. "And in tonight's news, 20 people killed at local mall by mad gunman, many believe the gunman to be a "Digger" on social news website "Digg".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sudden Jihad syndrome. Happens out here in Cali a lot lately.
- PetiteNova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't understand.
Did the parents finally get blamed? Because truthfully if we just blamed parents from the get go we wouldn't have to go around searching for new scapegoats. We would always have one. I mean if you are going to reap the tax benefits of having a child you might as well try and raise them to be deicent human beings.
And Jack Thompson to me represents what those angry mothers in like the represented to the music industry with the induction of the "warning: explicit content" label & when they put Judas Priest on trial. No one likes to walk away with the blame so they place it on noise and moving pictures.
Makes total sense to me. - aceg1357, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That is because hollywood and the game industry gives them lots of money and very little to the Republicans. So they support them. Tobacco does give them money and they take it but they give more to the Republicans so they want to stop that particular business. It's all about who you give money to. I'm sure that if hollywood suddenly started giving all their money to Republicans, they would change their position just as fast.
- RedStateRetard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I remember the same thing happened to the "DC area Sniper".
Several "experts" on CNN/FOX/CNBC/CourtTV concluded that the sniper had the same Modus Operandi as certain video games. The video game industry was sweating bricks.
AFTER they caught both snipers, they found out they were both homeless and had no TV much less a games system or PC. (no gameboy either)
The only game they (the snipers) did play was chess. - nixfu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Who needs Video Games when you have the QUORAN?!
The QUORAN is more violent than GTA....the QUORAN is the original how-to manual for "killin, rapin, and slavin in da hood"
What we have here is another classic example of "Sudden Jihad Syndrome" - APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I bet he played E.T. and lost it
- aceg1357, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Maybe be just maybe the police and media can look into the possibility that he was a Muslim and on a Jihad quest. Nobody is sure of anything at this point but doesn't it make sense to at least look into the possibility?
- Gerfervonbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it was crazy. My sister had been eating dinner at a restaurant there only an hour before the shooting started. I'm just happy shes okay, I feel sorry for the people who it happened to.
- tcquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've heard of plenty of awful things people who are not me have done.
- philipz78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So that's why they moved diagonally!

What is Digg?
