- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+73Wow. Wii is going to rock.
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -6/+47You can tell me that the game doesnt look as graphically superior as the xbox 360 or ps3, but you cant tell me that the game doesnt look as fun as ***** hell
- jblade, on 10/12/2007, -11/+45Wii will be awesome, but how do they produce a HD trailer... when the console does not even output HD resolutions...
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Easy solution: saw the edges off your TV. :)
- jbjust, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31480p is a resolution, not a size. 1080p and 480p are both 16X9 resolutions.
- atmofunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Gametrailers.com uses "HD" on their videos to denote a higher resolution, higher quality video stream. It has absolutely nothing to do with a system's intended capabilities. Like someone already said, it's RELATIVE to the other videos available on that site.
- juneof44, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25It's ~137MB in its entirety, but if you wanna download it: http://trailers.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_mariogalaxy_spiderworld_gp_gt_h264.mov
I don't know about HD, but it's pretty ***** good-looking. - edwardoh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25Well ... 480p is not technically HD, but DVD quality resolution shouldn't be that bad. Heck this video looks pretty awesome scaled fullscreen on my 37" HDTV.
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -9/+28How about this? Learn how to ***** use your TV. . . .
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21It's not true HD, but I think everyone is missing the true technical acheivement here. Gametrailers.com is handling a Wii video hammering directly from the front page of Digg. With great video quality and no skipping at all (at least on my part). I wish you could upload any video to this site, it rocks.

On top of that, it's a Mario game - stylistically, they're not supposed to look "real" like so many other games. I would say that this game still shows off a lot of graphics potential, and still looks very nice. - Moopy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23HD is a relative term, it's still HD compared to the normal videos we've been used to for the past 10 years.
- shitthisfook, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Beautiful graphics, mysterious lands, original gameplay...exactly what Mario game should have. This makes makes me want a Wii more than ever! All doubts I had about the Wii have been *crushed* by this video. I'm now a believer.
- FreakyT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I'm not sure why you're all modding jblade down, as he asks a perfectly valid question:
How could footage from the game be HD, if the system itself isn't? - Soave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Nintendo has said they'd support widescreen. And this video looks pretty widescreen to me.
- LowenSoDium, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15@Moopy :
Wrong, HD is a defined term in video terminology. It means anything that is 720p or higher (including 1080i and 1080p) in 16x9 ratio.
480p is known as ED (Enhanced Definition)
That said, I am still really looking forward to the Wii's release, and every video I have seen only makes me more so. - zeifers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11well a hdtv should see its getting a 480p sig and change over to that rez setting.
- daborg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13See THIS is what wow-factor is. Sony could learn a thing or two from this video.
- NomenNescio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Wow, im impressed, not by the graphics but by the way this game is executed. Awesome, lets hope it isnt too short >.> or too easy, beating that spider was boring.
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It was awesome to see mario "blast off" onto an astroid. Mario Galaxy looks to mash my childhood love of mario with my childhood love of wanting to be an astronaut!
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That game looks like it's a lot of fun to play. Too bad it's not coming out till next year.
- srg13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I think that the star that is moving around with the blue trail is where the player is pointing at the screen with the remote
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This preview looks widescreen and unstretched, so I'm guessing 16x9 480p.
- bloodmoney, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I would buy a Wii based on that footage alone. The game looks like it starts off really simple...then all I can say is...wow
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The Wii appears to bring gaming back to it's roots (for me at least). This game looks incredibly fun - aside from the annoying bug-boss... we know the routine, 3 times a charm.
- cracell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8dude I looked over those....and you are silly here's a comparison pic I pasted together
Super Mario Galaxy looks way better. Makes Sunshine look like crap. http://cracell.googlepages.com/comparison.JPG
In my experience, when I go up a console I notice that the graphics are a little bit better, but if I then go from playing my gamecube to playing my 64 (down a generation) I see an extreme difference. This is an extreme difference, from memory seems about the same but step down and no this is way better. - OmegaNine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I may have missed soemthing, but I thought that Wii wasnt going HD... What happened?
- Giever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ ahhell
No, technically the video isn't HD. HD is a minimum of 720p. That being said, the video looks awesome and I can't wait to play Super Mario Galaxy. - meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Kachu, you fool. First you can't spell "hopped" and then you think the Wii is going to be $300? You've been in a damn cave sir. Wii = $249 and 480, 720, and 1080 are technically HD.
However, 480p more accurately describes a 16:9 screen format, which is only functionally available on HDTV sets. Thus, technically that would make it HD given that standard TVs can't display 16:9 full screen. Standard NTSC is 420.
Have you even played a N64? If so, you're even more of an idiot for drawing the line that you did. Wii is a hopped up GameCube just the same way PS3 is a hopped up PS2 and 360 is a hopped up Xbox. - eric1, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Was anyone else thinking that Mario was going to attack the flipped Spider for "massive damage"? :)
- ssj27gohan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Gxcdesign: Do you honestly think a majority of American's will wish Nintendo put more into 720p? I bet most Americans don't know what 720p means. Sure, maybe people would wish Wii had better graphics, but you find out about that before you buy it. If the graphics are really going to hold people back from the experience, that's their choice. They can go PS360 if they want, though Wii is most definately the better second console to either of the systems, because PS3 and 360 are so similar. (I'm getting Wii as my primary console though, because I really like Nintendo's franchises)
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, i can't wait to sit down and enjoy some good ol' nintendo fun.
- keyrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The controls confused me a bit. It seems that the player is moving Mario and the star at the same time. Maybe it's the remote and the nunchuck.
- TheZorch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9The Wii is going to so totally ROCK!
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I can tell a huge difference between the two. The textures are higher res, the edges of polygons are smooth, pixel-shaded effects, etc etc...
if you can't see it, then ... er... I don't know how to help you - mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4no, because 480p supports widescreen, so there will be a different resolution scaling but not stretching.
- Daveecee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Wow. Super Mario Galaxies is going to rock.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think you control the star and mario.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Could someone explain to me just WHY mario would need HD anyway? The games that traditionally feature on Nintendo consoles don't need HD because they are stylised, cartoony and unrealistic. For realistic games, yeah, I can understand that you'd want stuff in the highest res possible so it looks real, but for Mario, Zelda etc. etc., is it really necessary? I think this video answers that.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6And I thought playing Super Mario World for the SNES was fun playing while shrooming. This is going to be a blast.
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Thanks!
- anonymou38, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5yep, you guys are right. i'm an idiot. just didn't pay close enough attention to the actual gameplay. was too busy looking at the art design.
- giveer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think some people who are posting negatively are forgetting that the so-called "cheaper" version of the PS3 won't have HD capabilities either.
No contest as far as I'm concerned. - cman2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5watch the video again, and this time watch the star-cursor with the blue trail. the wii-mote is used to do some very interesting things, like interact with the environment and use gestures to control mario.
- zouden, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6GC or Xbox maybe, but when was the last time you played a PS2? The graphics on the PS2 really aren't very good, quite 'murky' and you can definitely tell that it's the weakest of it's generation. This game is beautiful compared to my PS2.
- alexpigment, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7aight, i'm probably going to get dugg down for saying anything negative about this, but here goes. look when he's getting those musical notes. does anyone see those terrible jagged edges? that's just one example of many. i'm assuming that these imperfections are a result of a non-hd game being scaled to hd, but seriously, could nintendo invest in some anti-aliasing (or generally blurring) capabilities before releasing a non-hd system in 2006?? if they want this game to be around for more than a year or two, they better change something. the games will look crappier and crappier to more users as everyone goes to hdtvs.
- Comkilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this seals the deal, im getting a wii
- joesmosax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Not HD, but lovely graphics and very nice frame rate. Shame my new HDTV will stretch the ***** out of it :-("
FunkstarDeLux -didn't you notice this is already in 16:9 aspect? it will work perfectly with you tv if you know how to use it...as will all the Wii titles. - dasutin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Havent you guys ever heard of 480p 16:9? and also that was on a projector. The Wii doesn't produce 720 or 1080 images. That footage looks like someone was just using a DV Cam mounted on a tripod. Relax people... and the HD Footage title is a little misleading...
- mufasa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you do realize that this is an alpha / beta game which is'nt coming out for a year or something? they will probably fix graphical bugs like that before it's done.
