- asskey, on 10/12/2007, -24/+95Yeah.
DS = Ugly *****.
DS Lite = Super Happy Funtime!
Feel free to mod down this simple truth. - kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+55i got this game on day one, and man oh man, i completely understand why it sold half mil in one day over in japan.
it kicks ass. - SbooX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49You mean New Doki Doki Panic?
- banjokazooie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Yep, the Japanese have good taste. You just can't beat classic Mario side scrolling.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32This sold faster than Windows 95 did! :0
- MicHalpin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31I am waiting to get it when I get my DS lite, the wait is killing me.
- ryogahibiki, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28"Nintendo Europe might be taking it a bit too far ( http://images.p-nintendo.com/hardware/nds/lite/lifestyle/01.jpg )"
That has to be THE Most unintentioanlly gay ad ever. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31I'm quietly involved with the DS homebrew community, and its morons like you that ruin things for the rest of us.
Videogame Piracy = WRONG - Logikal, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25I completely disagree, I never liked any mario game other then Mario 64 and I absolutely LOVE this game.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21i cant believe the DS' design was actually keeping so many ppl from purchasing 1. first of all, the first generation DS was sexy, retro chic, and sturdy-but im glad nintendo is starting to get classy. i mean seriously, Nintendo Europe might be taking it a bit too far ( http://images.p-nintendo.com/hardware/nds/lite/lifestyle/01.jpg )
we all know the Wii is sexy as *****,,so everyone reading this : buy one. - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19The colours on the DS Lite are simply astonishing. My only problem is that I tend to grunt the "Mario-isms" along with the little feller on the screen.
Nothing's more bizarre than waiting for a conference call to start at work and popping out a few of the "Ha!" "Waahaaaa!", "Weeeeee!" noises only to look up and see the boss.
Awkward. Tres Awkward.
Weeeee! - ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I got the game on day one, and I'm still playing it, over, and over, and over. So far it's being hailed as the best game for DS so far. To be honest, I totally agree. It's awesome becaue it incorporates a lot of the new moves added to the Mario games since Mario 64. You can ground pound, and wall jump. Sooo much fun leading your opponent off a cliff and wall jumping out at the last moment.
Multiplayer kicks ass, too. Cannot begin to tell you how frantically fun Mario vs. Luigi is. - dako, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Yeah, but this is only Japan.
It's still very impressive if you ask me. I can't wait till DS Lite is out to get this game, it looks awesome. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"I completely disagree, I never liked any mario game other then Mario 64 and I absolutely LOVE this game."
Have you ever played Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros. 3?
If you haven't, go play them now! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Yea, it's less, but what's the point of your comment?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I bought it on day one. I grew up with the first mario games, and I will say that it definately stays true to it's roots. I hope the Mario title for the Wii is as good. Mario Sunshine sucked. Mario 64 was the *****!!!
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"PC game makers are not known for embedding rootkits in their game CDs"
Ya, Starforce is awesome! - ericmoritz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11gamefaqs.com man. To get to world four you have to beat that sandworm thing while tiny mario and go in the little pipe, haven't done it myself.
- Insert31990, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I purchased the game the day it came out.
Best. DS. Game. Ever.
I have no doubt it sold half a million on the first day.
I wonder what United States' sales are? - mudkiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Cool! Bring on New Super Mario Bros 2!
- msprout, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Gimmie $40 and I'll sell you an emulator.
Right after I go buy NSMB. Also, it might not be an emulator, and might be Tubgirl. - orson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't think it looks unintentional
- notkevin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Beat the castle at the end of worlds 2 and 5 as mini mario.
- paulmetzger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11It's a very fun game, but in my opinion they blew it.
Why?
Where's the use of the Nintendo WiFi connection? A side scrolling Mario game like this would have near infinite re-playability if you could download new levels.
Which brings me to the next point. Is the DS not the perfect system for having a Mario level editor? Imagine if you could create levels and play them, then upload them over Wifi connection for others to play. You could have top levels of the day, week, month etc all with difficultly ratings and reviews.
OH MAN.... that would be freakin' AWESOME
...and that's why Nintendo dropped the ball with this game. New Super Mario Bros is very fun, and it was worth every penny, but it could have been AMAZING. - cyberfelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Just because a game isn't as OMG BEST GAME EVAR as you hoped it would be, doesn't mean it "sucked". Sunshine is still a great game by anyone's standards.
But I think we can both agree that Super Mario Galaxy looks like it will blow Sunshine out of the water. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8dammit...i finished the game, found all the entrances to the mushroom houses & cannons, got all the big coins, cleared levels 4 and 6......... And guess what?? I'm gonna start it all over again....
- fredinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yay I get a DS Lite in 2 days :) For once a gaming device is released in Australia before the US
- fredinator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11And its probably better and more secure. I'd much prefer running Mario as my OS rather than Win95.
- tommythetomcat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Random, and stupid.
- ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7maybe it will surpass nintendogs as #1 selling game on the ds.
- imdwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Amazing how they got the title wrong TWICE in the story blurb here...
Repeat after me: New Super Mario Brothers. Super Mario DS doesn't exist, and Super Mario Brothers is just a wee bit older than the DS. :) - neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5in one day man.... just one day... half a million in just ONE day...
- JaceFuse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Logikal> If you didn't like Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, or Yoshi's Island back then, aquire them in their remade "Advance" versions and try them again. Trust me. You won't be disappointed.
Perhaps you just never "got" what was so great about them back then, but if you play NSMB and love it, you'll really love those others. Also, to this day I don't know that any mario game has really lived up to the Overworld layout of Super Mario World. I really wish they had done the same for NSMB, but since NSMB is close enough to the way SMB3 was laid out, it's still good and the levels are fantastic.
So yes, it's worthy. Very, very worthy. - sudonim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I wonder what the XBOX vs DS count at the time of release of these two games was just to make it a fair comparison. Also what it was after because I'm sure mario will propel people to pick up a DS (especially with the release of the DS Lite).
- bryant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6If anyone cares the Japanese he wrote says: "Everyone, eating the droppings! DS is not funny truly. You are the child. "
Oh, and zetsurin:
Maybe you're too immature to appreciate the classic style of gaming, and just want to go live in your basement shooting the heads off of zombies, but some of us like classic sidescrollers, so just shut your trap because nobody cares about your worthless opinion. - Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10ME TOO!!!
I've already got the game. I found it on sale. It is still wrapped up waiting for the DS Lite to come out.
Damn it won't get here soon enough.
I'm VERY tempted to go to Best Buy and just buy a regular DS and return it and get the DS Lite when it comes out. - foshaug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They actually sold 900.000 units. Marked as inacurate
- joncannon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Easily one of the best games for the DS. DS is showing the PSP what it should have. Good software.
- slicedoranges, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why didn't you capitalize or properly punctuate your sentences, then?
- ericmoritz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4heh, Mario is big in japan.
- Insert31990, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What I loved about NSMB as well was the multiplayer minigames. I finished the adventure mode, and after Mario vs. Luigi became baseless, me and my friend this weekend played the minigames against one another for at least six hours.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That's why pencils have erasers.
- paulmetzger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6all the guys playing ds have chicks on them, how is that gay?
- Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I was just noticing. And I agree with the comments, there are several reasons why...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yup, NSMB is a fantastic game. There's just something that feels right about playing a side-scrolling Mario game on a Nintendo portable. Most importantly, it's a high quality release with superb attention to detail.
I was initially a little disappointed with how quickly one can get to world 8 (bypassing worlds 4 and 7), but holy crap, worlds 4, 7, and 8 are harder than hell, comparatively, and a ton of fun.
The mini-games are great, too. I'm addicted to that path-drawing game. - kenkyomausu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think they should remake (not so much remake, but more like make a ture Super Mario World 2) SMW because that is in my book, the Greatest Game Ever. I've even got 100% on it and i still love playing it. It's a staple for any ture video gamer (Aimed at all you Uber x-box fans)
- partyonaisle7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I think it's a legitimate question. The video game industry is different for a lot of reasons, but the obvious one is the strategy of bullying individual consumers, through lawsuits and the related legal weapons. And PC game makers are not known for embedding rootkits in their game CDs. Among other things.
- mercano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yoshi's Island is a good game, but, subtitle nonwithstanding, it isn't really a Mario platformer.
- somesthetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2isnt 480,000 a tiny fraction of ds owners in japan?
