- Mark_DeRidder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Street Fighter is better in HD? The arcade game is like 320x240!
- Zinite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24I'm holding out for Mario RPG... best game evar!
- elrechazao, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Nintendo would have reaped a lot of good pr for releasing this seminal game for free, or like a buck over christmas. 5 bucks to play SMB? Meh, not for me, not for that price. They have such a huge library, releasing a free NES game every say, 3-4 months would be such a great marketing tool to get people into the wii and the virtual console. Seems a bit moneygrubbing of them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21So it's not free? Damn
- conman16x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Already downloaded it. Mmmmmm, nostalgia.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Playing Super Mario on VC is alot of fun. It's funny, I think I got it originally for Christmas '86...
- SeppukuBLUE, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Oh, man. This is great. Now all we need for the VC is an actually GOOD Mario (i.e.: Mario 3).
- bracersofint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13i second that
- McLumpy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@ Ace25
You have tons of games for your old consoles. Other people don't, but would still like to play them. Enter VC. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"But WHY THE F* are the releasing Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior ?!!? It's terrible! SF2 Turbo our Super, now that's something, but world warrior?"
No joke... it's slow and significantly less fun. I would absolutely buy Turbo or whatever but not considering this one. I'll just plug in the SNES if I wanna. - WorldGroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Just confirming all the bugs still work...
* Minus world(North American version) is still there. Did you know in the original version of SMB in Japan, you can get out of the minus world? It's not an infinite loop.
* Jumping on turtle getting lives in 3-1. Yup, still works.
* Small fireballs by touching koopa and the bridge-dropping axe at the same time as big mario.
* Sliding on one foot for 4 seconds off the first jump at the beginning of a level, or when coming up from a pipe.
* Jumping over the flagpole in 3-3? .....bah, I'm not even sure that was ever true...
* Triangle/Wall jumps. They almost seem easier on the Wii.
Those are all the bugs that I knew when I was 12. :-) - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The trick in level 3 where you can get a crap load of extra lives with the koopa shell trick. I cannot get this to work, I could be very rusty or they have fixed this error. Can anyone else confirm this problem?
I know this trick may cause some problems since basically after 99 you go out of bounds in the memory and start getting funky characters. Maybe this would cause a problem with the Wii so they removed it. Man that was like the easiest way to beat Super Mario Brothers. - nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Ignignokt01, you forgot the best one, ToeJam and Earl!
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Don't forget the other 3 they updated today: Super Castlevania IV (snes), Street Fighter II (snes), and R-Type (turbografX). It doesn't get any more classic than today's new additions, well maybe perfect dark/goldeneye...
- xerokitsune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Did they fix/change it? Last I heard you needed a PS3 and a PSP, since you can't play the games on the PS3 and can't download them without it for the PSP.
- cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Haha, XBLA titles on HD are a 4:3 with a high-def border around it, I was pissed the first time I played Contra. That being said, multiplayer on live makes it super-cool.
Anyone getting error 209600 with the Wii Shop? - modifiedbears, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9can't believe how many people are paying $5 for this. looks like nintendo has no reason to change their pricing with all you suckers trying to relive your childhood.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Miyamoto needs to call the Virtual Console techies currently sipping coffee in their offices and demand to make it free.
- EduardoTOWB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7eight bucks for r-type is making me a sad panda, after the $6 price on all previous TG16 titles. =/
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6YOU are wrong, I got that 1-UP just fine.
- NetSliderX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5anyone else having trouble accessing the wii shop channel this morning?
- fba199, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sweet!!! Super Castlevania! Thanks Nintendo, but can you release more classic controllers so I can play it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Am I the only one that CANNOT CONNECT to the Virtual Console all day now? (Wii owner since day one...in other words, I didn't just open it today)
- xerokitsune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well for me, I picked it up because of 3 reasons.
1) I don't have wireless controllers for my PC or original Xbox.
2) The Wiimote (at least to me) is close to the original NES controller's feel.
3) For less than a cheap combo meal, I get the classic goodness of Mario.
While I do have it in emulation on my PC, having it in my living area with wireless controllers is rather nice. - revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I am. Probably so many people trying to get on, its not working.
- colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4According to Nintendo all of the games are completely unmodified from their original forms. The Wii Shop Channel is down for me though, so I can't get in to take a look.
- Davidofff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Crap blog
- shelle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My NES quit taking cartridges sometime around 1997, no matter how much I blew on the connections :(
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I thought the rumors were "free gift" on Christmas but oh well still awesome.
- cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can't afford the PS3, you dolt.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5A song is 3 minutes long and is not interactive. A game can span hours and/or days and contains a variety of experiences and is interactive...
Am I the only one that realizes this? - charz0r, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It's not there! :(
Is it only available in the US? Hope I can get it over here in Norway soon... - Adunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I understand where the emulation people are coming from as the games are old and don't cost that much. But I think this time around I want to support Nintendo more that last gen. I think the Wii is great and some of the Vc titles are really worth it (and i have a dreamcast with emulators for all, except n64 which I have anyways) I don't think I am going to purchase mario but I think that there will be some really worthwhile things to purchase from it i.e. mario rpg, chrono trigger, etc.
To address the PS3 getting gran turismo. You can look at 2 ways if you like. It is a reward for people who purchased the system, which is nice, Or you can look at like this. Nintendo just keeps selling out and they aren't giving anything away, come get a PS3 (now that they are sitting on shelves gathering dust) and you will get a free game (ahem wii sports style)
Happy holidays to you and yours (even the ones who dig me down) - wtfomg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Got this and TOEJAM & EARL!
I think I'll pick up Catlevania once I grab a wavebird or VC controller. - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6SMB rules.
But WHY THE F* are the releasing Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior ?!!? It's terrible! SF2 Turbo our Super, now that's something, but world warrior?
Anyway, my Wii will be the center of attention tonight when the entire family is here. Xmas '06 will be the funniest ever. - scloopy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dang. Blast you lucky Wii people! I want Gunstar Heroes! I want a Wii! :)
- mentiepoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Not impressed. Nintendo is either releasing titles that have been played to death in the past. Or titles that just suck ass. C'mon Nintendo, you can do better than that. Also the prices are rediculous. Lower Nintendo games to $3 at the most, TurboGrafx16 to $4, SNES/Genesis to $5, and N64 is good at $10. I love the Wii, and the Virtual Console concept, but the prices are out of hand. Although, I wouldn't mind the prices so much if they offered some sort of WiiConnect WiFi 2-4 player meet up lobby to play with friends over the internet.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2someone said 29th
- Flummoxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sneak King kinda sucks. It's fun for about 5 minutes...
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There are two problems I see with Mario Bros. for VC...
a) I got it for FREE with my ORIGINAL NES but Nintendo's "Christmas surprise" (as they describe it on their website) is that they're charging me $5 (USD) for it. :/
b) Either this shows they're never going to release Super Mario All-Stars or that they're going to sell them all to us individually and THEN sell it to us. :( - Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Add me to the list. :(
I'm about to go to my grandparents' in a little bit and I just wanted to get Mario before leaving. Stupid 209600. - Cine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not yet out here in Norway, it seems. But being one of the young ones here, all my childhood memories comes from playing Super Mario All-Stars on SNES, rather than on SMB on NES, so heh. Wonder if they are going to release that version?
- primecut17, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The $5 price point is more justified for a N64 game, like $5 for a PS1 game (To be played on a PSP). But for an NES game it's not really worth it. Personally I'd rather play SMB on an old school Nintendo for the true experience, and you can probably pick up the real system along with the game for $20 or less.
And as a counter point, Wii owners have to pay $5 for a 1985 SMB for Xmas, while PS3 owners get a brand new Gran
Turismo HD Concept for free. Think about that one. Nintendo is very smart because they understand their target fan base, ones who will re-buy their same products over and over again in one form or the other. - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got a wii point card for xmas and just DLed gunstar heroes and SMB.
- Nexus85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me and a friend just found his old NES with SMB :).... so I doubt that I'll buy it at all. Great game though... else I'm really having a good time with F-Zero :D. And I still can't understand all this whining about the 5$ price, it's hardly any money at all.
- mjl5629, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Negative world -1
- fatlip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i concur... plus i have a perfectly good NES sitting here with the mario brothers cartridge. i'm not lazy enough to download it from the VC store just so i dont have to get up and turn the damn thing on
::mods a power button into his NES controller:: - ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not on Australia store either :(
mind you, we got the web browser before the US, so we're even now. - NetSliderX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was total sarcasm :)
- s7r1k3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I doubt it since it contains more than one game. Unless they charge a high price for it. I am just waiting for a mod for the wii because I know it won't be an online console no matter how much they tout that it is.
