- raisinbran, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49This guy needs to get a camera tripod or something.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Well I must be the only 20 year old that plays the DS.
- svidrod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41oh yeah, obviously.
- davidv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Totally off topic but I freaking hate how google video aligns to the bottom of the screen and I cant scroll up or anything. Would it kill them to add a few pixels of padding??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Nice generalization. Which is odd that you'd say that, seeing as the DS has completely outsold the PSP, so one would assume that it would even attact to a wider audience, as well.
- JayNemesis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26This "test level" was playable in N64 varsion.
- DEFSMAC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22um, why didn't the guy video tape how it is he found it or how you get to there instead of him just aimlessly running around in circles for 3 minutes.
- Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23What a moron, the DS is the top of the food chain in portable gaming. I just got one and I'm loving it, and I haven't been 12 for quite some time.
- briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Why? Google Video has nothing to do with the cameraman's lack of ability.... If something just looks that bad, lower the resolution to what it should be with the button on the lower right for god's sake, or maybe download it even?
- Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Err...
So is that jumping black dot is Mario...? - NewEvolution, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Clearly it's "old news" because Mario 64 came out years ago, and this level was in it.
It makes no difference to johndl that he just heard about it 2 seconds ago, the fact it existed for years makes it "old news."
I think I hate "old news" posters even more than the "WTF is this doing on frontpage" posters...
In any event, someone should figure out how to get this thing so I can fire up the '64 and have at. - rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@ davidv: Greasemonkey is your friend :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Doubtful. They didn't take any of the actual models from the N64 game. They recreated everything by hand, so it's unlikely that they'd recreate the same test level.
- sedawk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11>> Well I must be the only 20 year old that plays the DS.
Really, then I must be the only 36 year old! - warbird, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Starting from the top it is "water", "tree/wood" , "grass" and to the right of grass, there is "mu" which means someting like "nothing" or "nothingness"
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Not a trpiod. He needs to hold his DS still!
- ericmoritz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Actually it was luigi because he didn't float away when he picked up the flower
- DragonQuester, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9the video quality is horrible...but it still looks real.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I couldn't even watch more than 20 seconds of this video. I mean, half of the time the camera is showing more of the wall in front of the guy than actually showing the DS. I can't see crap.
- modsuperstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The DS is definitely not just for kids. I myself know at least 6 people, all 20+, who own a DS. The DS is targeted at people who want to play actual games. PSP is for the kids who think they'll look cool if their parents buy them one.
- eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It must be hard to play the game and hold the camera at the same time.
- Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It is possible that he managed to find the test level in the inside the rom file and used some way to allow him to access to it after tranfering it to his Passme cart...
Besides...
I don't think any emulator can actually play any games yet... (not as i know of) - ajmoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6it makes my head explode with excitement when people discover cute little hidden gems like this. I would be so happy if i could fire up my N64 or DS and fiddle around in that silly test mode!
great find, crummy video, +digg!
P.S. i tried a quick search about this hidden test mode and couldn't find anything.. i'll keep trying and post back here if i find anything :) - RonDutt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Now what the hell were they testing with Hot Coffee? A Sex-Ed portion of the game that never made the cut?
*goes back to playing Mario Kart* - MysticX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I´m 27, and playing Mario Kart DS very much! More than Oblivion!
- pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not that anyone cares, but the level actually starts off with you playing as Wario. It changes to Luigi after picking up a cap very early into the video.
Also, I'm assuming those are Japanese characters at 1:26. Anyone happen to know what they stand for? - nailerr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The camera is fairly still. It's a handheld unit and people tend to move them about as they play, that's all.
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9I wonder if it's in the original SM64 too
- thecapitalizt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This looks like a testing/debug level. They make these for pretty much every game to make sure that everything functions as it should, and to test out sound. And again, sometimes its easier to just disable a level/function than to strip it out (see: hot coffee).
- DJgreenLava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That test level looks similar to the one in LOZ: Wind Waker, but I assume all test levels are colorful and made up of cubes.
Did the bottom map screen look just like a map in a Mario Kart(think 64) battle arena? - Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't feed the trolls.
- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Now we need to know how he found the video. I mean, using a ROM is likely, but he WAS playing the thing on an actual DS so there could be a different method involved.
Otherwise it's kind of pointless to see the promotional video without directions to the destination, you know? - Dementual, on 01/27/2008, -1/+4Seems pretty legit, but better quality would be nice. Also, some instructions would be very worthy.
- brydude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Old news? Explain...
- crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6dont worry unlimited and bluezdood im right up there with ya
- danmanx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My 3 year old could've filmed a better video. Look! I see a sasquatch in the background as well!!!
- CarlosReyes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4sort of off topic, but could someone post the instructions on how to find it (prefrebly for both the DS and 64 versions)
- aOenEz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Pretty cool that people still take the time to find things like this. Super Mario 64 was one of my favorite games in the N64 era, so anything about it naturally catches my attention. Just one question: is the DS version just a port or did they redo some things?
Either way this is totally AWESOME! :)
+Digg - Shaz172, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hi, This is Shaz speaking, I have just made another video. It will appear in google videos tommorow, i uploaded it on google videos on saturday but their proberly having a holiday off so they can't verify it.
mega upload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8LH1FYM2 - aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3They added Yoshi Luigi and wario, changed some levels around, gave each character a specific power, added some new levels on the map, added more missions I believe, Added some really fun unlockable mini games.
But it subtracted a good analog controller, The system they have works, not as good as the n64 control er, but hell, its portable Mario. - why27, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3OK this is cool, but how do you get to that level ??????????
- vd0man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well he finally revealed how he did it. It requires dumping the ROM, unpacking it and then replacing certain level files with the test level files. If you don't have a PassMe or FlashMe'd DS and a flash cart then you can't play the test level.
- volcompimp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ya know I thought the same when DS came out but for some reason I really really want one now. Nintendo really puts thought into their games even if their games don't have much violence.
- omnivector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hi Shaz, Please learn how to use portable formats like DIVX.. God i hate WMV files.
- Xentrion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To Warbird;
Mu is chinese for Wood. - vtwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will release a Mario 64 level editor this summer, and I'm about %99 sure that this level is not in the original n64 game. Luigi is not there either :)
- bryant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It was Wario, but he got a Luigi cap. You can tell by the way he hobbles around at the start of the vid.
- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1strange...because the only time I've ever seen a PSP was in the hands of a 9 year old...hmm
but I've seen quite a few on my college campus, not very many 7-12 year olds there - ajmoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you said in the video that "the secret is revealed" but didn't show anything... how on EARTH did you do this? inquisitive minds want to know!
- Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1... Now I really want to know how this was done....
