- socivitus, on 07/21/2008, -30/+249Female gamers outnumbering teenage boy gamers? I smell *****. What do they play, Wii Sports? That doesn't count.
- rock42, on 07/21/2008, -35/+166Solitaire does not count, Wii Fit does not count, dress up games dont count, Kongregate(and others) dont count. A video game is a $50 DVD/BluRay that goes into a Xbox, PC, PS3, or (only sometimes) a Wii.
(Note: some restrictions may apply, pricing may vary, see google for details) - johnmalc, on 07/22/2008, -21/+114They play stupid ***** like the Sims.
- cherrj, on 07/22/2008, -17/+100First they are allowed to leave the kitchen, then they are allowed to vote, and now they are playing video games. Our world slowly spirals into chaos.
- ohhoe, on 07/22/2008, -0/+80Regardless if that's true or not, I'm sure 40% of diggers have *****.
- dha07030, on 07/21/2008, -13/+88Where the ***** are they? I don't see many.
- faizal5k, on 07/22/2008, -9/+63http://fizzel89.com/images/female_gamers.jpg
- bcollis, on 07/22/2008, -3/+52What's next? 40% of people on Digg are women?
- beerncheese, on 07/21/2008, -20/+64People can come up with statistics to prove anything. Forfty percent of all people know that.
- MikeFallopian, on 07/22/2008, -1/+4140% of gamers are women, sure, but I bet guys account for a much higher percentage of hours spent gaming.
- davidrools, on 07/22/2008, -12/+51And Nintendogs, Brain Age, Sudoku, and a lot of DS shovelware
- Galaxylander, on 07/22/2008, -2/+33Below YouTube comments? Are you kidding me? That's not even possible.
- bjornski, on 07/22/2008, -2/+33Maybe the female gamers don't want to hang out in a crowd of pre-pubescent children screaming, cussing and talking *****.
It's one reason I'd NEVER log into the Xbox Live stuff.
I run into a lot of them in the games I play. - Kral, on 07/22/2008, -1/+304chan is infinitely more readable than Youtube. Youtube seems to have discovered a way to extract pure stupid.
- valium1616, on 07/22/2008, -5/+34There are many female gamers... we just don't tell you that we're female so we don't have to spend our entire gaming time fending off men/teenage boys who want to 'play' with us.

- skaldicpoet9, on 07/22/2008, -13/+37I think that is quite sexist for the previous posters to say that just because girls don't play a particular type of game that they are not "gamers". My girlfriend and many others girls that I have met play all kinds of different games from Grand Theft Auto 4 to the Sims 2 and they aren't to be considered gamers? Yes, they spend much more then a "casual" amount of time on these games. And guess what? They also spend a lot of time on the internet playing flash games, but hey, those don't count right? Give me a break. Just because they don't get on Counter Strike: Source and yell obscenities at each other doesn't mean that they aren't out there playing games. Hell, sometimes my girlfriend plays mroe games then I do every week. Get a clue.
- Daxx22, on 07/22/2008, -2/+26"Barbie's ***** Fun House."
Dude. I'd totally play that. - Renton, on 07/22/2008, -5/+27Oh god, it happened. Digg comments have finally devolved below 4chan and youtube comments.
- Narcism, on 07/22/2008, -3/+23You'd think that any heterosexual male would be aroused at this statistic.
- kjcdude, on 07/22/2008, -1/+20well played
*golf clap* - skaldicpoet9, on 07/22/2008, -11/+30A game is a game. Whether they play the Sims or Barbie's ***** Fun House. The internet has a lot to do with this as a lot of girls play casual games. Get of your ***** high horse and realize that even if a woman doesn't have a good time playing Call of Duty 4 that doesn't mean that she can't enjoy something else. Besides my girlfriend buys $50+ games (Oblivion) and loves them :P
- superherogirl, on 07/22/2008, -5/+23you don't count!
- Archer007, on 07/22/2008, -0/+17EA GAMES CHALLENGE EVERYTHING. EXCEPT OUR MONOPOLY.
- ohhoe, on 07/22/2008, -14/+31Oh you know, Call of Duty, Gears of War, GH, GTA.
oh sorry, I mean viva pinata, and the sims, and barbie dress up, and everything with things fluffy and cute.
You don't get laid do you? - WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -2/+18....or who complain that we're just shaking our boobs in their face to get special privileges. Yes.
- 0Xonox0, on 07/22/2008, -4/+2060% of gamers disagree.
- Haz3rd, on 07/22/2008, -0/+15Animal Crossing is the *****.
- Eddylee, on 07/22/2008, -1/+15Animal Crossing is cool! Stop making fun of meeee :(
- zerobackup, on 07/22/2008, -0/+14Why not? Video games gained popularity in the late seventies, so if some of those millions of kids carried thier hobby into adulthood that would be a hell of a lot of people. Also, my dad is damn near 50 and he games pretty hardcore: Fallout, Command and Conquer and Resident Evil.
Sure I love hardcore FPS and team-based combat, but you can't discount game genres you don't like as not being "real" games. - cryslewis, on 07/22/2008, -4/+18I'm a girl and happen to play many games such as: GTA, Halo, Call of Duty, Zelda(I'm addicted), Portal.........I could go on but you get the point. I even have gaming parties. Each of my roomies (there are three of us 2 girls and a guy ((Que three's company theme)) set up our gaming systems in rooms, when we moved in together we all put in for an extra 360 for the living room, people come over and we play against each other online, eat, drink and have a great time. Also I've never played Sims or Brain Age...thank you very much
- lutiana, on 07/22/2008, -2/+15Holy Crap! I had no idea the Digg community was so freakin sexist. My wife plays Half Life 2, FEAR, Portal and tons of other such titles and she aint bad.
I have known plenty of woman gamers, and I would believe that 40% of gamers are woman.... - AyaJulia, on 07/22/2008, -0/+13Not sure why you're being rated down... anyone with boobs who has ever played in a social online environment (MMORPGs, guilds, clans, whatever) knows we're accused of this all the time.
- liviaokokok, on 07/22/2008, -8/+20Yay for all us women gamers!! :)
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -4/+16....Because you can ALWAYS tell a gamer's gender by their avatar... Give me a goddamn break. Most of the girl gamers I know (including myself) don't go in for macho testosterone-dripping smack-talk *****, so we tend to avoid matchmaking - and tend to stay quiet even if we do decide to participate. Many of us prefer MMOs, in which case you DEFINITELY have no idea who's who unless you happen to be in a guild with a girl.
Also, many of us dislike to draw attention to the fact that we're female because if we "admit" to it, guys will often a) start bitching that we're looking for special treatment, b) start hitting on us, or c) go easy on us, thus dumbing down the game experience. Just because you don't see/hear us doesn't mean we're not there. - alukima, on 07/22/2008, -0/+12Actually, I play about four hours a night, but I don't speak because of the amount of crap I get no matter what. I know a lot of girls who play and they feel the same way. My mic is only on when I am in a party with people I know.
- ShakeWell, on 07/22/2008, -2/+14You hate her that much?
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+11Not entirely true, but those of us who do play XBL tend to do so in a tight-knit clan setting, much like you would in an MMO. You can avoid a lot of ***** that way, which makes the gaming experience much more pleasant. I personally do indeed prefer MMOs, but my old XBL clan was about 25% female. All of the members were also in their late 20s - mid-30s, so the guys tended to be much more mature (and thus much more fun to game with) than the average matchmaking Ritalin baby.
- bialia, on 07/22/2008, -1/+12latest were gta iv, then mgs4, followed smt persona 3 fes. then i played me some mario kart for a while. now i've got a game of tales of symphonia (didn't catch it first time around) on the go. i'm also quite looking forward to the upcoming sequel on the wii, valkyria chronicles and a chance to play eternal sonata on my ps3. also thinking about playing some battlefield bad company. at 27, i've been into video games for over 20 years.
not all women play these kinds of games- the chick who sold me my preorder of mgs4 told me i was the only female who preordered it- but you brats need to grow up. more do than you think. you don't want me in the treehouse- that's fine. i have no interest in sharing space with you. - AzzidReign, on 07/21/2008, -8/+19Why do I only meet 1 or less girls a week on XBL? Why is it every time I'm in a game there's MANY pre-pubescent children screaming, cussing, and talking *****? I guess I could be wrong...I just always thought they were boys who's balls haven't dropped yet. They could very well be dirty [mouthed] girls.
- zezerik, on 07/21/2008, -13/+24..yeah... and 0.0000001% of that 40% look like Morgan Webb.
- Clbck, on 07/22/2008, -0/+11That would be a much better study. I know lots of people who consider themselves gamers and they spend maybe 3 hours a week gaming, and would consider 6 hours a "game-intensive" week.
- TheSenator624, on 07/22/2008, -2/+12Diggers are amazing. First they bitch and whine about how there are no female gamers, perpetuating stupid, inaccurate stereotypes. THEN, once it turns out that, HEY!, there really *are* female gamers, they bitch about how they don't count because they aren't as ZOMG HARDCORE as the guys are.
Give me a ***** break. - cryslewis, on 07/22/2008, -1/+11@userperson
I assure you, dumb ass, i am in fact female. - besos, on 07/22/2008, -0/+10I'm a 31 yr old chick who plays flash games, the Sims and many other girlie games. I love them. I also play WoW with my husband and my brother. It was either become a WoW widow or become a druid. I play WoW 3-4 hrs a day about 7days a week on average. Sometimes more with play time on the weekend. I have a fully PvP geared night elf druid, working on gearing a dranei shaman, a human mage and a gnome warlock. I don't play as much as my husband and brother do because I still have to work, cook dinner, clean house and make sure the pets are taken care of. But I definitely spend any free moment that I have online leveling or raiding. So believe it or not, there are some of us out there. Don't know if it's 40% but we do exist.
- xceptionaly, on 07/22/2008, -12/+22Hmm. Let's see that figure without Bejewled.
- imLissy, on 07/22/2008, -4/+14thank you!
- Shagin, on 07/22/2008, -1/+11I would have thought there would be rejoicing, instead it sounds like there are a bunch of insecure dudes worried about something. You guys are so hardcore, I can't stand it.
- Snoosy, on 07/22/2008, -0/+9Agreed. At least 4chan has demotivational pictures and kiddie porn. Youtube just has angry 12 year olds that criticize everything.
Did I just say I like kiddie porn? -
