- jhodulik, on 11/01/2007, -0/+180An oldie but a goodie.
This is from the 2004 Evolution fighting game tournament, in a semi-final match between Daigo and Justin Wong. Daigo is the one who pulls off the full parry against Justin Wong, who is certainly a A-list player, winning many tournaments every year. More information on the competition where matches like this are held can be found at: http://www.evo2k.com/
By the way, those of you who are wondering what's so special about what happens at the end of the video, keep in mind that Daigo's character, Ken, is NOT just blocking, he's parrying. In Street Fighter 3, parrying is a difficult technique that requires tapping the joystick towards the opponent (thus, unblocking) in a time window of just milliseconds. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_III#Gameplay - reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+103Oh lord....he parried the whole super move! *****' awesome!! I can't imagine what the other guy must be thinking.
- Shando, on 11/01/2007, -18/+66That was awesome and everything, but what a bunch of ***** nerds :D
- EdgarVerona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+39Ahhh... I totally didn't understand that until I saw here. I saw the video and thought it was cool but not digg-worthy. (I never played SF III, the last one I played was SF II: World Warriors) Went to the link you gave, and... damn. That's sick.
Dugg for awesomeness that I can't even imagine. And I'll digg you too for giving the good info. Without that bit of info, most SF II players like me would probably watch the video and not realize just how awesome that last 20 seconds or so was. - imikedaman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31Welcome to digg!

short and straight to the point :) - Tunguska, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30That was 1337.
- moo113, on 10/11/2007, -3/+28"He's the one who taught Daigo how to parry."
Reference to teh_masterer of PurePwnage. - KayinNasaki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19In competitive fighting game tournaments, theres no such thing as 'cheese'. You do what youi can do to win within the realm of the game. This type of gameplay is not for everyone, but for people who play seriously, theres no other way to fairly draw the line.
And seriously, when you play a Good game seriously, you'll find the game is either terrible, or the cheese isn't as bad as you thought. - lanzemurdok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Rare footage of daigo actually angry
- mejor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I remember seeing this move the day before I started playing Street Fighter 3 Third Strike. I thought I would be able to do that at some point. I was wrong. Just plain awesome
- p0tent1al, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15the only thing going through my mind when he parried that.....
oh

god - Marijuana, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Street Fighter is still fun on the SNES.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13here is Wong recently using what Diago did to him:

another show of great skill - OregonTrail, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12That was the closest my jaw was to ever touching the ground from a sitting position.
- AzDraon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I hope people understand the timing and training and skill that this took to do. I trained with my cousin for about a month just to be able to parry Ryu's 5 hit fireball. Daigo is freakin amazing and I was lucky enough to watch him kick the crap out of my brother on Xbox live with Capcom vs SNK 2.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13that parry gives me the goose bumps every time
- DesertSquirrel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I imagine his reaction was similar to William Hurt in "A History of Violence":
How do you ***** that up? - bigfkncee, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13dugg for using Ken
Team Hadoken>everyone else - YouRookies, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Street Fighter is much more deeper gameplay than your Halo.
- DoomMusic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I was actually there -- Evolution 2004, Cal Poly Pomona. Run by the guys at www.Shoryuken.com
The atmosphere was really intense and Daigo (the Ken player) actually went on to win the Street Fighter 3 tournament. - MasterSharma, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12Whoa, this was on digg's front page when I first joined ... good times, good times
- Axolotl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The second video posted by JenadaeXX is NOT Justin Wong. Those are two Japanese players during their biggest tournament from last year, Tougeki '06: Super Battle Opera (best tounament name ever)
- thelostemperor, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7i have not the believing of that!
- smokewater, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Am I the only one that finds it odd that Chun Li's legs are about twice the size of the rest of her body?
- bethlagarrison, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6This is why you should play 3rd Strike, people. Put down Tekken and DOA and grab yourself a copy.
The scene is still alive, hit it up. - BlackOp, on 11/01/2007, -0/+4Where is the link then?
- MortenAaserud, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No there's not
- bethlagarrison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Show me a 2D fighter as good as 3rd Strike and I will.
There's a reason people still play games like 3rd Strike and SF:CE', and until publishers recognize that reason and stop making ***** games with pretty graphics, people aren't going to stop playing SF. - kingatrock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4to quote Bas Rutten when he commentated for pride fighting: "It's beautiful!"
- h4mx0r, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Jesus H Christ.
I mean, I knew there were awesome players with Third Strike, but this takes the cake!
I'm still waiting to see a pro Ibuki player. - artofwar420, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9DAMMNNN!!!
- bigfkncee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@Marijuana (#6931783)
indeed..thank god for emulators to take me back - Yurimanna, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Wow... you're so manly and cool - I wish I could be you.
...or at least be inside of you. - JustinPM, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Old games are most of the time better than newer games, I know it's my opinion, but back in the day they didn't spend so much damn time on graphics and forget about creating a game that is actually good.
- joshf52, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Text directly from jhodulik's link:
Parrying may seem daunting initially, just as any skill that requires practice. To perform a Parry simply tap toward the opponent on the joystick to defend High and Overhead attacks (or down, when the attack would hit Low). Parrying too soon or too late leaves the character wide open to receive the intended attack. There is only a small window of Attack Frames (the portion of the attack that can cause damage) in which a Parry can be successful. This occurs just as the opponent's attack would make contact with the player. - harrymcwealth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Where is the part where they find the cure to AIDS?
- BlackOp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What age are you?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"bombart mad bring back fa real" as i quote myself when i was 14 years old here in Trinidad watching such an awesome streetfighter match

- retsig, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@0zzy
Looks like the announcer hit puberty at the end on that video.
I remember seeing this a couple of years ago, this is what got me to buy the game for the PS2 and an arcade controller. Pretty good game...ahhh I should start playing it again. - bethlagarrison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@Frisbinator
You know, if you actually played 3rd Strike, you wouldn't think that. Ever heard of Yun or Makoto? - pnyphnz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1When I think of how many more Dudley and Urien players I play everyday compared to the number of Ken players (no one plays Ryu anyway)...well, it's too bad you don't play at a real arcade.
- bigfkncee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@Frisbinator (#6938419)
so i guess you don't like Akuma either - LoneCrow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Whoa. That was AWESOME!!!!
- JustinPM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You know, I never thought that Ken and Ryu were bland. Maybe their movesets, but as for the game's story, they're basically the only two folks directly linked from the start. Everybody else just has kinda crappy stories but the story between Ryu and Ken was always kinda cool. Though I always hated how they made Ken more favorable when it came to the dragon punch, if anyone should've had a better dragon punch, it should have been Ryu.
