That is all. - aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Short answer: No.
Long answer: No, but maybe in a year or so. - maduin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15The SNES had two versions, the first one was Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior, which was the first console version of SF2. Then Street Fighter 2: Championship Edition, was announce for the Genesis, where you could play as the bosses. Then before that was released, Street Fighter 2: Turbo was announced. Turbo for the SNES was the best version. With the DRULYB code, you could crack the Turbo all the way up to 10 stars.
Why not release that one on the VC? Is this is plan to sell a ton of World Warrior versions, then a year later, sell Turbo, knowing that the people who bought and liked the first one, will also buy the second one? That's some crafty business Nintendo is running.
Expect SMB1,2,3 for the NES to be released, you download them all, then a year later, Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES is released. I'd rather buy the latter, then the former, but Nintendo knows they can get me to buy all of them by releasing them a little whiles apart.
In 3 years time, we could see SF2: Turbo released, with online play, but a year before that, you had already bought the version without online play.
Crafty, crafty. - Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I wonder if this will have online play like the recent SFII release on XBLA.
I mean, even if they're just emulating the SNES version, some emulators can allow you to play over the internet. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8go pick a turnip
- pkakira88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Japan's had SFII on their virtual consol since their launch.
PS Its easy trying to create a new game game with online play than to emulate a game and trying to add online play later on. Try playing SFII on an emulator with a friend over the internet and you're more than likely to come into your fair share of syncing problems. - gconeen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10playing classics...15 year old classics that cost $8, thats what people are bitching about.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I hope it's actually turbo edition, despite what the thing says. 100 Hand Slap, baby.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Emulate?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"You Lose!"
/SF announcer - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's already out in Japan... obviously it'll come here.
I HATE the milking, though. World Warrior? WTF ? I WANT TURBO or SUPER !
Geez... I hate it... cuz I know I'm gonna buy... darn. - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11stop bitching and just thank nintendo for allowing us to play the classics again
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Isn't it obvious that Nintendo is saving all of its heavy hitters for when there is nothing good wii owners havn't already played. While there is much stronger third party support for the Wii than the Gamecube, many gamers are going to be mainly buying 1st party titles. It follows that there are going to be long periods of time between the big Nintendo megahits like Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy during which Nintendo can release big titles from the past and keep the fans happy.
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Xbox Live Arcade version is really hard even on 1 star.
- aresef, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Xbox Live Arcade still wins. That's my only real gripe with the VC--that it's all straight up emulation, whereas with the XBLA, you get online multiplayer, you get leaderboards. I would get SF2:WW on VC if it weren't for the fact that SF2:HF on XBLA provided more features, a deep online mode, etc.
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That was in the original SF2 as well.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like the Wii, but I totally agree that it looks like there is going to be a giant lull in game releases just like there was with the Gamecube.
Wario ware.. ( still a small market in America )
Smash Bros.. ( ditto )
Metroid.. ( when? )
Mario.. ( Sunshine was a wet blanket, will this overcome that? )
...
and then? Nintendo has a pretty small number of promising games coming out within the next 10 months. Go look at the release date lists, it's not good. Milking the over priced and under featured virtual console is just depressing. - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5hey, you can still pay $15 dollars for a 30 year old classic called pacman...
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree. While SF2 was a great game, SFA3 blows it away. Not too over the top like the Marvel vs Capcom games, but definitely a lot more ways to mix it up.
- mlazarov, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I don't know if I'm the only one to have the nostalgia of Street Fighter II be ruined by actually playing the game again, it's not very fun at all. The later games in the franchise put it to shame (Alpha and III series)
- somabc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7or over on xbox live you could play the arcade version with multiplayer support?
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And a couple of HADOOOKEN!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2While I like the idea of online co-op or versus mode for games like contra and street fighter, XBLA doesn't actually deliver on these ideas due to horrible lag issues. I've also heard the hard punch sound in street fighter is incorrect! The horror! All kidding aside, XBLA doesn't have anything on the perfectly emulated VC games as of yet.
- sudonim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So your saying going out and buying the cart would be cheaper?
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"PS Its easy trying to create a new game game with online play than to emulate a game and trying to add online play later on. Try playing SFII on an emulator with a friend over the internet and you're more than likely to come into your fair share of syncing problems."
Works perfectly for me playing Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting (I own the cartridge as well). Must be your internet connection. - joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2racketboy mentioned this a while ago...
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2006/11/wii-virtual-console-updates-new-titles.html
probably because Japan has had it for a while.
edit: Actually, I just realized it was just mentioning Japan's
But anyway, it was logical it would be here soon anyway. - czimmerman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2But if you look at the other SNES titles, or NES titles (with the real exception of Zelda), they are doing how those systems launched originally. You don't see DKC on SNES yet, but you see Pilotwings. You see Bomberman '93 and not '94 (which was the better of the two).
At least that's how I'm looking at it. - mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2im sure they will eventually release both versions...
- jCsickZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2why no multiplayer? xbox did it, so why can't nintendo? seems like you just can't beat the 360 for online play...
- kingstarscream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i just have one thing to say: SHORYUKEN!!!
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Meh sf2 was fun on the genesis but the arcade versions were still better. Save your money and buy an xarcade stick and just emulate it with mame.
- megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@theblooms:
That's cool. Genesis had the option of selecting 10 stars turbo off the start whereas the SNES only had it if you did a code first. On either system, it's hilarious playing on ten stars for an hour, and then slowing it down to zero stars. - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@megashaun
I didn't know there was a difference. I have the Genesis Hyperfighting Turbo or whatever it is called. And it SMOKES the SNES version. Period. Blast processing or not, it IS faster on the Genesis. MUCH faster. - plastek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Seems to me the VC keeps getting worse, and worse.
WTF would they put out lame old World Warrior for, when Champion Edition was on the same consoles, had more playable characters, and was a far superior game?
What's next? Super Mario Bros. 2 instead of 3? - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Oy, I'm so totally underwhelmed by the virtual console. It's actually making XBLA's really terrible arcade offerings seem good because at least they:
Have online leaderboards
Some have online play
Have updated graphics
Cost about the same.
But they still aren't worth $5-$8.
Nintendo is really being half-assed with the virtual console. They could in theory release -all- the games right now since they are just emulating, but instead they are milking it with bottom rung titles.. ugh. I hope people are protesting with their money. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3If you're an idiot, sure. Pac-Man is only five bucks on XBLA.
- AirRaven, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3That's like thanking your rapist for impregnating you if you've had trouble concieving.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Dear Nintendo,
Please stop holding out on us with the VC games.
Love,
o0joshua0o - megashaun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@theblooms:
Considering there was no Genesis version of The World Warrior, it's a good bet that it will be the SNES version :)
Also, Blast Processing wasn't real. - azathothx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You're forgetting Super Street Fighter 2... oh and Street Fighter Alpha 2 which isn't technically a SF2 game, but part of the series.
IMO SSF2 was the best of the bunch with flaming fireballs, flaming dragon punches and the ever-so-sexy Cammy. - pmuaddib, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I would love to have Street Fighter II Champion Edition or Street Fighter EX for the PC but alas some dreams just don't come true. :-(
- n1f7y, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2HADUKEN!
- lebe0024, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Mario 2 > Mario 3
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8So any idea if this will this be the SNES or the Genesis version? The Genesis version was ***** FAST! Way faster than the SNES version my friend's had. You could crank the turbo WAY up and go to town!
God I loved the 2D fighters!
