- bochero, on 10/10/2008, -14/+396So we get to buy Starcraft 2 three times to finish the campaign?
Full multiplayer better be included in all of them. - SuperQuack, on 10/10/2008, -15/+379That's really lame if they charge you full price for each one.
I bet people are gonna just buy one for the multiplayer and then pirate the other two. - kinseyincanada, on 10/10/2008, -27/+215wow ***** that, there is no way im paying for three times for starcraft.
- jcaffoe, on 10/10/2008, -63/+226let me break it down for you whiners because the article did a poor job of it:
3 games = 1 game and two expansion packs. No, you don't have to buy the game three times.
Have you people never played a PC game before? - decker12, on 10/11/2008, -9/+147Does this mean I'll have to download three separate torrents?
- ghee, on 10/11/2008, -2/+135My wife for hire!
- LMN8R, on 10/11/2008, -3/+109Each part is larger than the original Starcraft. 36 missions each.
The original Starcraft only had 30 missions total across all 3 campaigns. - inactive, on 10/11/2008, -2/+100What are "friends?" Can you buy one?
- theatheist, on 10/10/2008, -8/+90" Blizzard says it made the change to make each story that much more epic and to flesh out the StarCraft universe. By splitting the game, the company says that players will access more story content, more characters, and more customization. Each game will be a stand-alone installment – not an expansion. No release window was announced, but the only thing we can be sure of is that these games will ship, as Blizzard likes to say, when they're ready."

it will be 3 stand alone games, not 2 expansions. looks like you were wrong. - RedStateRetard, on 10/10/2008, -13/+92Legacy of the Void = my wallet,
after paying for $150 for these games - Purkake, on 10/10/2008, -4/+79Gotta catch em' all
- Zzone, on 10/11/2008, -3/+76http://www.careerbuilder.com
- Skanadian, on 10/11/2008, -2/+72No. Most likely they will all be compiled into one torrent, saving you even more time :D
- MattSFJ2, on 10/11/2008, -4/+69I hope the same strategy isn't used for Diablo 3.
Act 1 $50
Act 2 $50
Act 3 $50
Act 4 $50
etc. - MikeFallopian, on 10/11/2008, -10/+66I think it's unacceptable that Blizzard is going to make me pirate their game THREE TIMES.
- jcaffoe, on 10/11/2008, -4/+55"It's a separate product. Look at the next two as expansion packs, but will have the feel of stand alone products."
-Rob Pardo, Senior VP of Game Design at Blizzard.
You're getting a supersized expansion pack. Call it what you want, but they're not releasing them all at once, and you're getting triple the content you would with a single game.
The problem comes when they announce them all at once like this and people feel like they're just chopping one thing into three smaller pieces and trying to charge them for it. That's not the case. They're taking each campaign and expanding it into its own game.
I mean really, have you ever known Blizzard to ***** you over on content? - angers, on 10/11/2008, -10/+59You see... I have played a PC game before, and I've also played a Blizzard PC game before. I don't know if you remember Warcraft 3, but you have to get the expansion if you want to play with everyone else. Because once the expansion is out, almost no one played the original game online.
- bigbenorr, on 10/11/2008, -3/+50this is easy..... I buy the terran, my friends buy toss and zerg. Then we just swap out, but I'll be playing the multiplayer mainly
- TKardinal, on 10/11/2008, -8/+49So we get THREE TIMES the Single Player Content???
AWESOME! - sgvprelude, on 10/11/2008, -1/+41Blizzard please release SCII asap, I'm ready to ignore school, work, family, friends and become a zombie.
- LMN8R, on 10/11/2008, -7/+45I don't see anything wrong with this. Look at other recent RTSs:
World in Conflict
Dawn of War
Company of Heroes
Soon to be Dawn of War II.
What's interesting? Each only had *ONE* single-player campaign. Each was a ***** fantastic RTS (well, Dawn of War II at least *looks* fantastic so far). Each had more than enough content to justify their purchases. Each had expansions that went on to add more single-player campaigns.
Except each of Starcraft II's campaigns will probably kick the ever-loving-***** out of those other, already-amazing RTSs. - Klowner, on 10/11/2008, -0/+38Do your friends own time machines?
- Thepirateking, on 10/11/2008, -1/+37You need more Lesbian Ass
- XBSHX, on 10/10/2008, -1/+35Each Part will contain a campaign the length of all 3 of the SC campaigns together.
It is, Rob Pardo said they may add things to the multiplayer with each episode. - BedPost, on 10/11/2008, -1/+34They said that multiplayer is included with every title. If it's the same multiplayer every time, then yes, yes I will.
- stevenb486, on 10/11/2008, -1/+33It might just mean that we're guaranteed two expansions. I don't think all three titles would be released simultaneously.
- BevansDesign, on 10/11/2008, -1/+33Blizz: "We're releasing the game, and then a couple expansions."
Fans: "OMG AWESOME"
Blizz: "We're releasing the game in 3 huge chunks."
Fans: "OMG LAME, I'M NOT PAYING FOR THAT" - latova, on 10/11/2008, -0/+31We're talking about blizzard here not EA. If they're not giving you a game worth 50 dollars then they aren't selling it for 50 dollars. You don't even know what they're going to be giving you. In my experience with blizzard games, you play them for AT LEAST 10 times longer than any other 50 dollar game you buy.
- damentz, on 10/11/2008, -2/+31You need more vespine gas.
- chrgrose, on 10/11/2008, -0/+29WrraWRRrgGgrWWRRrrrrrrrr!!
(ultralisk) - donalddraper, on 10/11/2008, -0/+29in the pipe, five by five.
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+28What about it?
You act as if DRM even remotely solves piracy, lol. - LordoftheLoo, on 10/11/2008, -2/+30Battlecruiser Operational
- Ellipsys, on 10/11/2008, -4/+29The major problem I see with this (besides being a decidedly "EA" style move), is that there is going to be a lot of piracy, and thereby a ton of whining about it. If they're going to charge $50 for the initial Terran campaign + skirmish mode with all 3 races + online multiplayer with all 3 races, most people will be fine with that. However, if the Zerg and Protoss campaign are $50 each, bringing the price of a single player campaign up to $150 in total, people aren't going to feel it is a worthwhile investment to buy all three. They buy the initial version, and then "acquire" the other two. $50 for a single-player only game is really pushing it, and most feel it just isn't worth it without the addition of some massive new persistent content. That said, their only other option is to change it so that you can only play online with the race you have the campaign purchased - thus bringing the cost of online play up to $150, which will create a ***** roughly the size of (pun intended) South Korea. Either way, its a considerable dick move. Other RTS (the Warhammer 40K series comes to mind) that released as multiple standalone campaigns at least had the decency to knock the price down to $30 and $20, complete with full use of units for online play.
- mikedeezy33, on 10/11/2008, -10/+33Wow what a ripoff. Blizzard really is turning the corner into milking all the money they can from their fans. 3 Games? That's bull, if they had to they could have just used 3 disks. What idiot is actually happy about this?
- poidh, on 10/11/2008, -1/+24I'm just hoping I won't have to spend too much vespene gas, or minerals for that matter, on each game.
- Trozz, on 10/11/2008, -0/+23http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/918/918895p1.html
You only need to buy one game to get the full multiplayer. Unless they do that 'you need the ____ expansion to play the cool units' crap.
Carrier has arrived. - Jhiaxuz, on 10/11/2008, -1/+23Who the hell wouldn't buy an expansion pack though if they were into the game though? Either buy it because you want more to enjoy or you don't because you did not enjoy it. It's simple.
- BlackJackJester, on 10/10/2008, -5/+27i don't care what anyone says, I can't wait!
- falstaff, on 10/11/2008, -11/+32So we're down to one company still doing PC gaming right. Thank goodness for Valve.
- elliam, on 10/11/2008, -0/+20Jesus.. its "1337" which is short for 31337.
God damn kids these days.. Get off my lawn. - NOZZLeS, on 10/11/2008, -0/+19I-DEN-TEE-FY TAR-GIT!!!
(Siege Tank) - jaredcat, on 10/11/2008, -2/+20pff yes you will
- cawfee, on 10/11/2008, -0/+18TOO LONG FOR WOMBATS
- Jack8274, on 10/11/2008, -0/+18These are coming out with large intervals in between buddy.
- audomatix, on 10/11/2008, -2/+19Hmm you better not ***** us Blizzard, if I have to buy 3 games to get full multi-player heads are going to roll.
- GliliumHkY, on 10/11/2008, -1/+18This makes the game worth a little bit more. But it's still expensive.
- KZWings, on 10/11/2008, -3/+19Nuclear launch detected.
- gameyharp, on 10/11/2008, -1/+17Spawn more overlords.
- fluxion, on 10/11/2008, -0/+16i'd imagine itll be something like brood war.....new units may be introduced but you can continue played the non-expanded version.
i get the impression that blizzard doesnt want to limit the opportunity for improvements in both single/multi player in future expansions, and is mostly doing this to allow for a quicker release. works for me -
