- glamdr1ng, on 10/12/2007, -1/+60I'd love an updated graphics version of Chrono Trigger and FF 6&7.
- Azimuth1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+55I don't call that changing their business model, I call that continuing with the same whoring of old games that they've always done.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22"***** you, it was the greatest FF game ever."
FF7 was lame and over-rated, if it had the same graphics as the Final Fantasy's before it, it would certainly have been ignored.
FF6 on the other hand had one of the best plotlines in a FF game ever, in fact it's plot was better, and more in depth than most movies and books i've seen and read.
besides the fact that Kefka would beat the living hell out of Sephiroth. Sephiroth tried to destroy the world, Kefka succeeded. - Bega, on 10/12/2007, -12/+30call it what you want, I want my ff7 remake.
- DryerCombo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Releasing games that never made it stateside would be better the remaking old games. Lets see the true SNES Secret of Mana Sequel, Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Front Mission 1&2.... Stuff like that.
Spreading the love to other consoles would also be a good business move. Fanboys who want Square games only on Sony consoles are to stupid to realize that the more systems a game hits the more money the publisher makes and the better chances we'll get sequels, better games or Niche titles. - NoOneButMe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22bye bye innovation?
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23I'd rather they remade FFVI than that overrated teenage angsty travesty of an RPG.
- hello_world, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18hello loads of cash?
- quaff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross on DS... and/or a sequel :)
- Konstantino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Since when did google have the ability to translate flash content?
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Chrono Trigger Yes Please
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Innovation? Square-Enix? AHAHAHA.
- alulie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I don't really care for games I've already played. I don't care how great the graphics are. If I'm going to pay for FF-VII again then there better be more content that's worthwhile. Not useless storyline filler. Not a few mini-games. I'd rather them focus on making new games if they are going to do something interesting with the older games that'd rock.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I haven't played it, but aside from using another androgynous lead character I heard FFXII was pretty different.
- DeusNova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I want them to allow that 3D Chrono Trigger Remake project!
http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/ Square-Enix decided to not allow a fan remake of it. It looked so good too! =( Greedy bastards. - Leomarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9They need to remake the Dragon Warrior series. That rivaled FF1 when it came out.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Just get it on PC then? FF7 was released on PC..... You could also just use a playstation emulator like PCSX, but yeah the dual shock does suck.
- mitrovarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Square really needs to work on making the actual interactive parts of the game fun, not just tedium to slow down the progress of a really good CGI movie. In particular, they need a fighting system that isn't god-awful. The fighting systems in 6, 7, and 8 were just bad... All the characters ended up basically the same. There's something particularly broken with a fighting system when the best combat strategy for a swordsman is to cast Ultima.
Also, they need to stop watering games down with card games or strange chocobo based miniquests that take three times as long as the storyline to complete. - dbsanfte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Getting FFVII PC working on Windows XP requires a bit of patching, and even so, there're random crashes during FMVs and a crash during the Chocobo race you need to patch for. Finally, you'll have to play in software mode (it runs smooth as silk on anything approaching modern hardware) because the game wants 8-bit paletted textures, but no current video driver supports that old format (DX7 ftw).
Check piratebay for the FFVII Ultima edition, the XP patches and Chocobo patches can be found online. There are workarounds for the FMV crashes (play in quarter-screen, turn off sound acceleration...). I just finished it again recently in fact. Hadn't played it since 1999 on the PSX. - dbsanfte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I was thinking about this the other day, actually. Square seems to have hit a creative lull lately. FFVIII soundly turned me off the series; FFIX was dull and uninspired. That about killed the franchise for me.
I think FFVI, FFVII were the last two games they got right. They're classics. I'd love to see some high-quality remakes, and/or same-world sequels. - victorguttmann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Please please please please pleasssssssseeeeeeeeeeeee Xenogears.
- CapAmerica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow... You people really believed this story?
This showed up on Digg early this week on a Joke Game News Website. The story is 100% BS.
Did no one find it weird that there was no Link of PSU to the actual story? Use your head people.
The original story stated that Square was going to stop production on ALL original content after FFXIII and focus solely on remakes. No one found this slightly off? Some people are so hung up on a stupid remake of Final Fantasy VII that they will report someones joke as being fact.
I really feel sorry for these people....
Its not real people, lets move on please! - AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6yeah, i was about to say I'd much rather a rehash of Chrono Trigger or a proper sequel (cross was cool... I guess) over any FF remake.
- Sabin17, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6FFVI remake, please.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No. It's not.
- chandler55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6final fantasy 1 on psp is pretty damn cool, well done high res sprites are really something
- JaYBrooks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5how about chrono trigger/cross 3? Or some of the rhythm games from enix. Bust a groove 3?
- Laolong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How has no one mentioned Terranigma? I'd love to see a 3D remake.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@G3R4
honestly, Sony doesn't really have a choice in the matter, Final Fantasy is a wholey owned IP from Sqare-Enix, and Square-Enix is not owned by Sony like Microsoft owns Bungie.
If Square-Enix decided to release FF7 on the 360, then FF7 will be released on the 360 regardless of what Sony "wants". now, the couldenter into an exclusivity contract, but I think Square-Enix knows that would be a bad idea financially - PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6my mom got me that when i was like 6, and i was like "waaah random fights with monsters you can't see and too much talking" but i kept playing it have been an rpg fan ever since.
- WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This article has been proven quite innaccurate by Game|Life.
- Sam0n, on 10/12/2007, -15/+18Well that's your own fault for wasting your money on one
- statslack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd love for them to finally import Seiken Densetsu 3 after keeping it overseas for 12 years.
- kawaiiterebi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If they did decide to do remakes, FFVI and Chrono Trigger would be at the top of my list. The 2 best RPGs I ever played.
It would also be great to see a remake of Terranigma, one of the most underrated RPGs out there. - EggoTrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Lazy lazy lazy....
Please people don't support it. I like FF back in the day myself but the turned based RPG simply needs to lay down and die. Instead of being innovative they've decided to cash out like Capcom did on the Street Fighter series. - korvan504521, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How about some creativity for a change?
- b0b0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Enix needs to remake the Soul Blazer series.
- CannonDancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and one for for the Playstation 1 a few years earlier.
- TheTjalian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Nendaiki -- If they release it on the PS3, you'd have to use a SIXAXIS controller, not a dual shock ;)
Besides, I'd love to see some PS Final Fantasies remade on the Wii. I haven't played FF7 yet and while I really hate to sound shallow, the graphics really do turn me off of playing it. I mean, I guess I'd play it no matter what console it's on really, but being able to play FF7 and Ocarina of Time (legitimately) on the same console would be so awesome.
Maybe... they'll port it to the DS? That would be pretty sweet. Personally I'm surprised they didn't port 5 and 6 to the DS, but there you go. - emperor799, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Funny, some companies make NEW games...
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Call me unexcited. I want new games. I love the old ones, and I have many of the remakes but I want NEW games too.
- somesthetic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4or just actually release 2 through 6 in America.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Let's not bring Tom Sawyer stateside...
- wily6, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11They need to release SOMETHING on the PS3. Anything really... my PS3 is collecting dust.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I remember getting into Dragon warrior before I even knew what Final Fantasy was, the mind-numbing xp grinding was addictive, and its simple, "theres a bad guy, go get him" storyline made for fun times.
I'm not a big fan of the newer ones, I don't much like the cartoon anime dragonball style they're going with, i prefer the graphic styling that Final Fantasy has. - mrsneakypat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I disagree, FFIX was the game that they got right.
- Metasquares, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It'd be nice to see a multiplayer version of the original Final Fantasy Tactics. That alone would drive me to buy the new version of the game.
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They just did a remake for the GBA.
- seneyr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Actually they said months ago that they were going to focus more on remakes at least for the upcoming fiscal year. I believe their justification was due to the increasing costs of developing AAA titles for next-gen systems. This goes along with their recent licensing of Unreal Engine 3, their interest in Serious Games and a lot of time spent on developing for the cellular and handheld platforms.
As much as I think a FFVII remake would be nice, I sure as hell don't see it as a justification for shelling out $500 - 600 for a single system. I believe Sony would like to twist Square-Enix's arm to get this to happen, but I think people are gonna party in the streets for the first 2 minutes, and then once the realization sets in for the $660 they would have to spend I think a lot of gamers are gonna be upset by it.
Honestly, I'd be happy with a Final Fantasy VII that didn't look like half of it was done for the N64 and the other half for the PSOne. Just getting the graphic styling to the consistency of later games in the series, like VII and IX, would be enough to make me happy. - roastBii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Welcome to 1999, remember Chrono Cross?
