- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Isn't it kind of obvious? Can you figure out how to play using the PC? Then there ya go, but replace the mouse with the Wii Pointer.
- kanavulator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Actually, that sounds like it'd be ***** awesome. That way, we could play many PC games. As long as they only require a mouse and a couple of keys.
Even though PC will always reign as the "king of consoles", I look forward to some incredibly engaging and more interactive gameplay with Nintendo's Wii. - theMcPatriot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Why not link to the IGN article, instead of some other site that repeats what the discription says?
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7According to wikipedia:
"Windows, PSP, DS, mobile phones, Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 confirmed" - uzusan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the wii confirmation from "ign" seems to have come from this post:
http://boards.ign.com/spore/b8259/126506095/p1/
Which in turn references this joystiq post:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/07/wii-ds-link-play-confirmed-for-spore-plus-new-wii-info-in-lates/
Which says that wii support will be confirmed in the upcoming issue of ngamer.
so in other words nothing to do with ign at all. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wouldn't expect the Wii version to be the same game, even if they did scale back the graphics engine. I'm predicting it will be to Spore what the console Sims games are to the PC Sims games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It was basically confirmed a while ago, Will basically said so at E3:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/16/spore-confirmed-for-wii-sorta/ - uzusan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Spore on Wii
Do you think there's any chance that Spore will be released for the Wii? Do you think it will be a port, or designed for the Wii? And are you as excited about Spore as I am?
Matt responds: It was officially confirmed for Wii and will make use of Nintendo's unique controller. "
Not really much in the way of info there. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4the art style would fit perfectly for Wii.
not so much for PLAYSTATION 3 - JoeCool1986, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"According to wikipedia" can be a dangerous thing to say...
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This better not be the news that Joystiq will be revealing later on today.
- sbwms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Inaccurate, according to an update now on the site.
- uzusan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah im pretty sure that it will be, just would like something a bit more concrete.
- avidlinuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@uzusan
Nevertheless, it is a confirmation that it will be on Wii in some form. - NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check out GoNintendo, a statement from EA proves that it HAS NOT been confirmed!
Why isn't this flagged inaccurate!? Oh that's right, because it's positive news! Goddamn digg sucks sometimes. - keikun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it doesn't matter because it'll look better and play better on PC
- avidlinuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://wii.ign.com/mail
There's ign's confirmation in the Nintendo Wii mailbag.
use the find command text: "Spore on Wii" - greenllama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nope.

http://gonintendo.com/?p=5405#comments - fredgsanford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is true that Spore will be on the Wii. It is false that it's been officially confirmed, as (much like The Sims), EA won't allow its developers to confirm the game as multi-platform. Don't put "THIS IS NOT TRUE" in bold letters, this IS true, it's just not "official" yet because EA is ultra-conservative about an original IP. It'll be all over the place, much like The Sims was on every platform.
Here's a hint: The Sims was never announced as multiplatform. It wasn't until the PC game took off that it appeared on every platform. - cannibaljp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i want to play spore soooooooooo much.
now...combine that withmy urge towrap myhands / brain around the wii...
dugg cuz i'm very excited.
very very very very excited. - eskay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think part of the confusion is due to the fact that Will Wright has said that he wants to make spore for every console he can, and has expressed interest specifically in the wii.
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, i heard something about this a while back.
they were talking about the wiimote being a great alternative to the mouse
should nicely blur the lines between whats a console, and a pc game. At the moment its pretty easy to tell what will be good on pc/console and what wont. - NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It hasn't been officially confirmed unless the developers officially announce it, which they haven't.
- swiftwings88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1usually when Matt Casamassina is that direct and confident in something he's right
I don't doubt it, especially since will wright likes the Wii likes what nintendo is doing and he himself wants to bring the game to "all consoles even cellphones" - Bara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@iluvatar: Why would they scale back the graphics engine? It doesn't even look on par with Black and White 2, let alone something like Mass Effect...
- mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do they taunt us with more news? I want a demo!!
- bigbchew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for not jumping to conclusions
- Jadix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2THIS IS NOT TRUE.
The Spore developers are only "playing" with the wii development environment. They are fully committed to completing the PC version first before beginning work on anything else. You can read it STRAIGHT from Will Wright (dev of Spore) here:
Matt responds [updated]: So, looks like I need to clarify my answer on this one. Apparently the game has not been officially confirmed for Wii. However, Will Wright has suggested that Spore will come to consoles after it debuts for PC. He even said the team was testing the Wii development kit. See below:
IGN: Do you have any ideas of how the game would play on the Wii?
Will Wright: We've been messing around with the Wii dev kit and we're really interested in the possibilities there. It's possible the editors might be more manageable on that system. The DS is also very interesting to us, as its control scheme could be very manageable for the game.
Seems like it's an eventuality. However, EA has not officially announced a Wii version, as the company was quick to remind me after yesterday's N-Query. Here is an official statement on the game:
"Right now we're 100% focused on finishing SPORE on the PC and PC only. Though we're investigating the possibilities of bringing the franchise to other platforms in the future, any announcements or confirmations for the Wii or any other platform would be premature."
There you have it. - YumZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Spore will be coming out for every system currently in use, plus cell phones, PDAs, etc. EA needs another franchise to milk.
- humanaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do we have any idea of a launch date for spore on ANY platform yet? I'm sick of surfing around trying to find the answer to this question.
Whichever platform Spore comes out on first, I will be buying that platform (if I don't already own it) - MechaZain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If only, but apparently EA is not going for it according to that second update.
- dcoolidge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm still waiting for the Wii. Oh wait this is an article about...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1inaccurate until Nintendo says so, not this sorta *****...
I know you Wii fanboys would say the same about the PS3 - tbyler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who cares if it hasn't been confirmed?! That doesn't mean it's not true! Besides, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread!
- Canis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My two favorite gaming news items, (Wii and Spore) together at last.
For me, this could not get better.
In any event, at least the theme of the game should be intact if it gets released on the Wii console, and the theme of Spore is what drew me in initially. I don't think they would take the chance of changing the game for the Wii. If you'll remember, the Sims console games were released after the PC versions. The game and its expansions had all ready proven to be a success. As Spore hasn't been released yet, I would think they are just trying to make their product widely available.
Graphics are definitely a pro, but for this game I'm sure people would make an exception if the graphics were scaled back somewhat. As many previous games have proven time and time again, looks aren't everything. - Flak88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is IGN's correction to the mailbag comment regarding Wii ans Spore last night:
Update #2: EA have made an official statement to silence the rumors put forth by IGN and NGamer magazine. "Right now we’re 100% focused on finishing SPORE on the PC and PC only. Though we’re investigating the possibilities of bringing the franchise to other platforms in the future, any announcements or confirmations for the Wii or any other platform would be premature." - mylastresort534, on 01/08/2008, -0/+0this "rumor" is true... i have nintendo power and i saw in ad in it about 2 issues ago i believe...
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Still awesome news. I kind of wonder how you could make a game like this make use of the wii mote. We'll just have to wait and see I guess....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2The wiimote would act as a mouse i guess.
- KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4spore on a console would suck.
