- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+61I dont see how its possible to anticipate this game any more than I already am. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Im sure it will destroy my family life, but I think it will be worth it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I used to firmly believe that once a game gets hyped so much, it loses all possibility of being good and can never live up to the anticipation. However, I truly enjoyed Half-Life 2.
There is hope that Spore can live up to the hype. I'm looking forward to finding out. - Bigcat1021, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Reviews are biased by definition.
- pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"you could also hit a menu item and send your creature to Maxis’ 3D printer, which automatically creates a model of it. It is likely that a model-making service (which will probably require payment) will be available when the game appears."
If this is true, it alone is enough reason for me to buy it. - Cander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It isnt that hazy. The only mutliplayer it has is the game downloads user created content on demand when your universe needs to be populated by guessing your play style and grabbing the content that best fits your style. There is no MMO aspects to this at all and was never the focus of Spore.
- Nightcrawler12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8haha, I have the same feeling. I'm very certain I will waste many an hour on this game :). It seems like a game like this should have been made before though, but maybe there was never the technology to do so.
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This game IS a modding tool. You mod the game of life to your will.
- jj9000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Cheney:
In the google video of Wright's E3 demo, he said how they're gonna have user-generated content... Like when you get to the end of the game you can download and/or buy new tools for your UFO or something.
Here's the 35 minute Google Video of spore: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198 - Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7There's no such thing as an unbiased news source. It's a reader's job to determine the bias of the source and take that into consideration when reading information from them.
- generalsticky, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I think i heard spore is also for Wii Ps3 XB360 DS PSP and mobile phones
- Wetzilla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm with both of you. Articles like this just end up making me mad, because I won't be able to play this game for another year. Lets hope that Will Wright decides to give us a sneak peak and offer the creature editor online as a demo sometime soon, because from this article it seems like at least that part is done.
- joethesupercow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I've give up all the doughnuts in the world for this game *drools*
- xcwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have been dying for this game to come out since hearing about it a year ago. The only bad part about the article was that it said it would be at least another year to complete everything. I was kind of hoping for this Christmas season we would see the game. I'm ready and willing to pay whatever cost it takes to upgrade my PC to play this game. The game where it looks like you have unlimited creativity! That is what more games should be like! I can't wait to make a ton of weird and unique races, and find the ones others create! Oh let it be done already!
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"What the hell are you jerk-offs talking about?"
No, what the hell are *you* talking about. It's like you've never read a game preview before in your life.
Game previews are universally positive appraisals of products designed to tell you what's exciting about a game, and why it should be of interest to you. There's no point in attempting to balance it with negative information because the games being previewed aren't finished and so any criticism is likely to be irrelevant, since these things are liable to change before being finished. (Note that when the good points also change, developers get called on this - see the fuss surrounding Fable and its previews.)
Part of the good points, in this case, is that Will Wright is developing it. They are every bit entitled to call it his "next masterpiece", 1) for the same reason that you could describe Picasso's next painting as his "next masterpiece, before saying it, and 2) because they are writers and their job is to use language that is entertaining and engaging, not language that keeps the information clean. pure and stale so you can read it like the robot that you seem to aspire to emulate. - Skas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I keep seeing talk about the release date, I'm fine with whenever. This game is going to be *amazing* and I hope that they take as long as they need to do it right.

And what if the game is a total wash? Is it still a masterpiece? This is what I'm talking about. The game isn't even released yet, and it's already getting rated. Just as easily as you shouldn't say anything negative about an unfinished game, you shouldn't say anything positive either, or risk ending up with mud on your face. This is the same thing that happens time and again with Peter Molynieux games.
I'm just getting tired of lazy reporting on the part of anyone who calls themselves a "reporter," especially all of the asskissing that they give. It doesn't serve to entertain me, it only serves to inform me that these reporters are amateurs, and I really shouldn't bother reading a gushing preview about an unfinished product. - mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Uhhh! I want i want i want i want!
Nothing more to say. - Cander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Bender
It has a polished feel because all you see is what works at the time of the demo. It is a common misconception among gamers who see a game demo and are scracthing their heads trying to figure out why the game isn't out yet because the demo was so flawless. I mean duh. Of course they aren't going to demo a game and show you the unfinished buggy parts.
That being said it would be nice however if they could get the editors out early. Not to wet the whistle of players, but to go ahead and get the online databases filled with content for release day. - Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's odd that they claim to have had a hands-on preview of it, yet they have no new screenshots to show for it.
- proghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well it has some more pics and tells about new features (like the cards) and more detail (like about the texturing)
- saads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1when's this getting released?
- CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, that would be nice, until you find your entire civilization getting killed off.
- mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Imagine you play some racing sim, you got garage but all settings are done randomly, Or Diablo but with randomly distributed skill points. Would you enjoy that game? If yes, go play Progress Quest, you don't deserve Spore.
- UltraNurd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't think there's anything new here. I found out that an (older) alumni of my CS department is working on this game - I wonder if I can get an early peek? You know, for a class project...
- Jerkbot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This makes me want to reinstall Evolva.
- echeese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure whether I'd rather have Spore or Portal. Both!
- notbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any updates on a release date? I've read June, May 2007.
- nanackle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Supposedly by late April or early May of 2007.
- dreserd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Old news, but this game will rock. The only thing that dissapoints me is the lack of realtime multi-player interaction. From what I've seen that aspect seems a bit hazy.
But the game will still rock! - odst29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want my Spore now!
this game is going to be awesome - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check xspore.com's release date page - they have a ton of information
- dreserd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By hazy I meant not realtime.
I think it would be cool if any interaction by other players with your organisms would effect the gameplay on your end, and vice- versa. Rather than just taking some peoples ideas and putting them in sort of a "zoo". If the total universe idea was expanded to real time interaction between other players it would be a nice addition. It would be interesting to see interaction between players populations evolve along with organisms. Especially with the amount of people that will be playing this game, I would find it more inter sting to interact with them instead of just the byproducts of their play. - fats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've heard rumors that it will allow for multiplayer in the UFO phase of the game. Granted, this is completely a "he said, she said" thing, but it would kick so much ass it's not even perceivable.
- docsnavely, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm one of the biggest sim fans in the world, but for some reason, this doesn't sound appealing. i can't give a reason as to why though. to me, it just doesn't sound too exciting.... i guess it's just me.
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Need this game!
- CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2From what I've heard from programmers that I know, as well as other gamers, Spore shouldn't require an amazing computer or anything like that. I'd guess that you might need a minimum of 1GB of RAM and possibly over 128MB graphics, but other than that, it's not supposed to be too rough on the computer.
- internbrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The game looks amazing, I wonder how powerful a computer you will need to run it. However the article doesn't provide any insight whatsoever as to what playing the game is like other than fun. All the other info in the article has been readily available on the net for some time.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've heard that it's earlier, possibly April or May. First quarter of next year is the set time (fiscal year, technically, which is why it's April or May).
- CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Biased in that they're gamers, yes. But I'd rather have guys like me reviewing video games instead of a bunch of idiots that know nothing about them.
Besides which, it's really quite difficult to say that anything from Will Wright won't be akin to a masterpiece. Maxis might take a while to make stuff, but when it's made, it's some of the best stuff out there. It'd be hard for anyone to be unbiased about Spore if they even do the slightest research into it. - Bender1012, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The age of things living up to massive hype is upon us. Look at Conroe :) .
- proghead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1FINALLY! I have been waiting forever for some kind of update or new info on this game!
- Bender1012, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree, I definitely think they should (and could) release a small part of the game, like the creature editor portion you mentioned. All the Wright-controlled demos have a very polished feel, from the main title screen to the UFO destructionating. I lie awake at night wondering what they still have to do (and why it's gonna take a year to do it).
- delp3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree with Pudquick. Hardly revolutionary material here. This and a lot more has already been discussed and touted by Wright in the past. You would figure the review would mention something about how it would run on most systems not specifically designed to handle the game. I think I would have more to say had I been the tester.
- andysrc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So am I the only one who isn't really impressed with this? I can totally see this being the kind of game that tries to do too much: be a great simulation, be a great RTS, be a great action/adventure game. Most games struggle to do ONE of these well.
I hope it ends up being great because it is a really cool idea, but beware of games trying to be all things to all people. By trying to do too much, it may end up not doing anything really well. - coreydoucorey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amazing. Host is down.
- rahmad04, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1this review says.... NOTHING!
watch the spore video at google video for a much better lowdown. - NomenNescio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1This game would be more fun if they removed the feature of choosing how your animal evolves, that way it would be more fun and unpredictable. Predictable stuff is boring. BOOO
:/ - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3What the hell are you jerk-offs talking about? First off, this is a PREVIEW not a REVIEW. Previews should be nothing more than updates on how the game is coming along, and what to expect from the final product.
We should expect ALL news to be unbiased. How is the reader supposed to know how to disseminate news information if they're not gathering it from the sources? That's what the reporter is supposed to ***** DO.
I'm glad these guys are gamers too, but leave the bias at the door if you're previewing a title. Don't start sucking ***** just yet. - pudquick, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6No digg, tempted to bury - not really an exclusive 'hands-on' with Spore: they got to play with a limited form of the creature editor portion only. Several other outlets have also been able to do this. The only 'news' is the (blatant) speculation on trading cards and 3d model printing. This is a rehash of everything we already knew about the game with filler musings.
That being said - won't bury it because Spore ***** rocks, regardless. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4"Next-Gen doesn't often publish game previews, but when Will Wright invited us over to play his latest masterpiece, we couldn't very well refuse."
"Masterpiece," eh? And we're supposed to consider this as an unbiased news source?
