Sorry XBOX, my love, Sony appears to have won E3 2008.
joblo.com — It isn't easy for me to write this. Being a hardcore, dedicated, practically obsessive XBOX fanboy, I have to come clean. Sony presented the best slate of upcoming games at E3 this year. Perhaps it was my recent purchase of a PSP or my utter disdain for Jeff Bell

- patriotsfan82, on 07/19/2008, -11/+38Since when does showing footage of games that you have already announced qualify as winning E3? Not to mention the GoW3 announcement was entirely CG, as was MAG. Im pretty sure stealing your rivals second most important franchise (behind MGS4 if you believe Sony fans) is more important than showing lackluster trailers of already announced games and pre-rendered trailers of games too far off to worry about much.
- dbldn, on 07/19/2008, -8/+13CG GOW3 > Avatars, At the Movies
It was definitely close for both companies. However, Sony seems focused at making sure their game console is about good games. Microsoft seems more worried about playing catch up with Nintendo.- estvir, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1And you blatantly ignore everything else: new Dashboard, in-game demos of GoW2, Fable2, Banjo-Kazooie, Fallout3, etc, Lips, bigger HDD, improved display support, etc.
MS will leapfrog Miis.
- estvir, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1And you blatantly ignore everything else: new Dashboard, in-game demos of GoW2, Fable2, Banjo-Kazooie, Fallout3, etc, Lips, bigger HDD, improved display support, etc.
- williane, on 07/19/2008, -7/+4Digg for a good comment......bury for being a Pats fan. I'm stuck.
- slimthps, on 07/20/2008, -8/+9And what did Microsoft do? Show a TON of multiplatform games.
Sony showed basically only exclusives, which means they win in my books.
Sony's upcoming exclusive line up > Microsoft's upcoming exclusive line up.- dbldn, on 07/20/2008, -3/+5I couldn't agree more. What's the big deal when almost all of your good games are also on other platforms?
- uberfr4gger, on 07/20/2008, -3/+1True but MS did it rightfully so. FFXIII jumping ship to be multiplatform is HUGE, even if it is only in the US and Europe. MS had some good exclusives including Gears 2 but Sony did show more exclusives for the core.
- estvir, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1GoW2, Fable2, Viva Pinata2, Banjo-Kazooie, Lips, etc are all exclusive and other multi-platform games have exclusive content on the 360 like GTAIV, Fallout3, etc.
Sony's showing of exclusives was what, a short CG trailer for MAG and God of War3? Haha. Oh, did they show Killzone2 and LBP? Aren't they delayed till '09? While All of the above 360 exclusives I mentioned will be out in ~ 2-4 months.
- Wiinii, on 07/20/2008, -5/+4The last time Sony impressed the world with awesome visuals was Killzone 2 CGI. That game still won't be out til next year.
So this 256-man MAG CGI should come out on the Playtstation 4, just in time for the launch of Home I would guess. - 01kcurrie, on 07/20/2008, -1/+0Having watched both, and owning both consoles. I would say both conferences were a disappointment. Not as much as nintendo's of course, but still not great.
However, I think that "stealing" a game from them is not really that big a deal. For a start it would only truly have been stolen if it was no longer going to appear on the PS3, which it is. Also, this is not the first FF title not to be exclusive to the PS3.
Sony showed lots of cool games. Announced a cheaper line of games and a better console build. They also teased some important titles too. And I would like to point out that whilst they are CG trailers, if you remember they are on the PS3 (the one with superior graphics capability), then theres really no reason in fussing over whether they will look nice.
The best I got out of Microsoft was the Fable (again) and what was shown did not impress me and Gears of War 2 which was nice, and looks like an amazing game. But, you can't run a press conference on 1 game. Don't even get me started on the Mii's were getting. I for one am shocked nintendo is not suing.

- ahr19, on 07/19/2008, -5/+4Sony had more catching up to do ... The game is very close now but as gamers ... we want Both systems to do well ... better games come out as a result ...
- LavaWarrior, on 07/19/2008, -8/+33How can you say microsoft didn't win E3, they announced a new improved video store, move game content to your HD, Final Fantasy XIII, new improved dashboard. In my eyes, 360 won.
- santasing, on 07/19/2008, -6/+9Sony also did the video store, it had HD installs from the start, and announced exclusives, whereas 360 had more multi plats.
- Tahiri, on 07/20/2008, -3/+3The new dashboard is a downgrade, not an upgrade.
MS lost cause they announced a list of features copied from PS3/Home/Wii
You can't win that way- LavaWarrior, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Let us just wait and see before we say they totally copied, they announced a lot of things that I admit sound like they copied PS3/Wii, but until they release it we can't be certain.
- Zapita, on 07/19/2008, -7/+7this E3 had the worst conferences EVER, whish it could have had a bit of the excitement of any other year.
MiiAvatars for 360!! Woooo!! - NextLust, on 07/19/2008, -5/+29I really hate that term, "Winning E3" - What did they win?
It's pure idiot fanboy speak.- chaosblade77, on 07/20/2008, -4/+2Exactly why I buried the article. Having an opinion as to who had the best show is fine, but saying anyone "won" is lame.
- cerealjynx, on 07/19/2008, -5/+9That was the fakest 'XBOX Fanboy' ever.
Also E3 was balls all around this year.- dbldn, on 07/20/2008, -2/+5Check my gamercard and get back to me.

- HOTM, on 07/19/2008, -5/+6No one won E3.
Whatever you own though, you got some great new features and games announced. Stop comparing who has what and just buy what you want.- Bartboy919, on 07/20/2008, -1/+2No one won, but I know who lost...
Nintendo.

- internetcoward, on 07/20/2008, -3/+4I think microsoft mixed with the poor economy has killed blu ray with teaming u with net flix. If anything things got worse for the PS3 after e3. No ff13 exclusive, netflix on xbox, and a large line-up coming out soon for xbox. Oh cool games that were supposed to be out forever ago will finally maybe be out soon on PS3 and home might be almost done.
- deadbaby, on 07/20/2008, -3/+4Not everything is a horse race. The media has just pounded it into your head so long you believe it. Sometimes it's a tie. Sometimes the outcome doesn't even matter. Stop being idiots with this "who won" crap. No one outside of the video game industry and fanboys cares at all about E3. Who wins or loses or ties is irrelevant. The sales numbers will prove who is winning an who is losing if you really need to label everything OCD style.
- blurrie, on 07/20/2008, -3/+12really?
here's a good synopsis by penny arcade
http://penny-arcade.com/images/2008/20080716.jpg- Tahiri, on 07/20/2008, -7/+2That synopsis was horrible. They chastised Sony for copying 1 feature from MS, when MS's list of announced features were all copied from PS3/Home.

- Awspire, on 07/20/2008, -4/+8Microsoft is moving on and keeping the 360 fresh with innovation. Netflix to the Xbox will be fantastic. Fantastic!
While Sony and Nintendo pretty much play the console wars as if networking does not exist, Microsoft is bringing network technologies to a whole new level on their console.- chaosblade77, on 07/20/2008, -2/+5Actually... the Netflix thing can already be done as long as you have Vista and a Netflix subscription. They are just skipping the PC aspect of it and instead requiring XBL.
- B1663r, on 07/20/2008, -2/+5So it goes from needing a PC to not needing a PC... I'd say that is a pretty substantial change...
- xxA7XxaDdiCtxx, on 07/20/2008, -0/+5Have you tried it? It's horribly slow and crappy like that. I'm waiting for the actual thing
- estvir, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Something unofficial that requires a PC and is not smooth is nowhere near equal to an official solution from MS that doesn't need a PC.
I can't believe I even have to point this out.

- ConfusedCartman, on 07/20/2008, -2/+7I disagree. Sony brought some good stuff, and I'm glad I can buy movies through my PS3(something I still can't do with my 360), I think Microsoft really brought it home in terms of games. In my opinion, follow-ups to existing IPs are just as good as new IPs, as long as they evolve said IP. For example, I didn't want to see a Gears 1.5, and I'm glad to say I didn't. They've upped the scale, upgraded the engine, fleshed out the characters and story, and they still managed to keep all of the stuff that made Gears of War such a great game. In my opinion, the video store and LittleBigPlanet are the only two things worth mentioning when it comes to Sony's Press Conference. While Microsoft did embarrass themselves more(You're In The Movies? What the *****?), they brought a bunch more games that I am personally interested in to the metaphorical party.
- dbldn, on 07/20/2008, -2/+3But will you agree that it was close? I really enjoyed the way Sony presented themselves. Not too arrogant and not too weak. The games (especially Little Big Planet) look fun without feeling too tried and true.
- ConfusedCartman, on 07/20/2008, -2/+4I agree, it was close. I did think Sony's press conference was the best overall, actually, but I am more excited for the games Microsoft talked about. Don't think I'm a fanboy, though, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 are on my list of "Must Have" games this holiday. Just because, here's the full list(prioritized):
LittleBigPlanet(preordered it on Amazon)
Fallout 3
Mirror's Edge
Gears 2
Resistance 2
Fable 2
Killzone 2
Far Cry 2
Alan Wake
That's how it stands now. Obviously the list will change as time goes on.

- Azap, on 07/20/2008, -5/+12Buried as inaccurate
- samfishercell, on 07/20/2008, -3/+5Nintendo @ E3 2008: Whoever wins, we lose.
- grock900, on 07/20/2008, -3/+6Buried because the submitter is totally wrong
- Anji-Mito, on 07/20/2008, -4/+5Sorry, Microsoft pretty much dominated E3 this year.
- xxA7XxaDdiCtxx, on 07/20/2008, -1/+5Why does he bitch about the price of the 360? Why doesn't he bash the price of the PS3 and all the stuff he said that was good about the PS3 was centered around games that we don't even know are good and that video crap that 360 all ready has (called it crap because I don't even use it on my 360 so calm down fanboys) while Microsoft announced Netflix merge, all those new updates and even Nintendo did something with their hardware with the Wiimotion plus. Sure, I'm looking forward to GOW 3 and such but no way in hell did they "win" E3. I call fanboy ***** on this article. Bury me you damn Sony fanboys
- 1timeuser, on 07/20/2008, -2/+8Buried as sony fanboy *****. Sony disappointed me this year.

- vashgunfighter, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Buried as really E3 was overall pretty lackluster from everyone. I daresay no one "won" E3. I remember when E3 excited me with a plethora of new titles. Not so much anymore. TGS and GDC are the ones I like now.
- Renton, on 07/20/2008, -1/+2Protip: You're not some corporation's perfect little soldiers in some imaginary console war. Quit being fanboys, and just go buy whatever console you want. Also, if you label yourself as a "gamer" then congrats, you're a tool. Video games are not serious business.
- shauncullen, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1But the internets is.
- PrometheusZero, on 07/20/2008, -2/+1I think Nintendo had a pretty good showing.
- estvir, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1So.. Sony won 'cause they announced a video store (Doesn't the X360 already have this and isn't it getting Netflix streaming too now?) and because they used cute characters to show charts? How incredibly shallow and stupid is this person?
Oh, and yeah, we saw a few seconds/minutes of CG trailer for a couple of games that probably won't be out till '09? AWESOME. Who cares about all the good 360 games we're getting in the next MONTHS.
I think FF13 easily trumps a bloody video store and freaking sales charts. - staffell, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2I'm just glad I picked up that copy of Fallout way back in '97.
