Sorry XBOX, my love, Sony appears to have won E3 2008.

joblo.com — It isn't easy for me to write this. Being a hardcore, dedicated, practically obsessive XBOX fanboy, I have to come clean. Sony presented the best slate of upcoming games at E3 this year. Perhaps it was my recent purchase of a PSP or my utter disdain for Jeff Bell

Not to mention the GoW3 announcement was entirely CG, as was MAG. Im pretty sure stealing your rivals second most important franchise (behind MGS4 if you believe Sony fans) is more important than showing lackluster trailers of already announced games and pre-rendered trailers of games too far off to worry about much.

      It was definitely close for both companies. However, Sony seems focused at making sure their game console is about good games. Microsoft seems more worried about playing catch up with Nintendo.

      Sony showed basically only exclusives, which means they win in my books.

      • uberfr4gger, on 07/20/2008, -3/+1True but MS did it rightfully so. FFXIII jumping ship to be multiplatform is HUGE, even if it is only in the US and Europe. MS had some good exclusives including Gears 2 but Sony did show more exclusives for the core.
      • estvir, on 07/20/2008, -1/+1GoW2, Fable2, Viva Pinata2, Banjo-Kazooie, Lips, etc are all exclusive and other multi-platform games have exclusive content on the 360 like GTAIV, Fallout3, etc.

        Sony's showing of exclusives was what, a short CG trailer for MAG and God of War3? Haha. Oh, did they show Killzone2 and LBP? Aren't they delayed till '09? While All of the above 360 exclusives I mentioned will be out in ~ 2-4 months.
    • Wiinii, on 07/20/2008, -5/+4The last time Sony impressed the world with awesome visuals was Killzone 2 CGI. That game still won't be out til next year.

      So this 256-man MAG CGI should come out on the Playtstation 4, just in time for the launch of Home I would guess.
    • 01kcurrie, on 07/20/2008, -1/+0Having watched both, and owning both consoles. I would say both conferences were a disappointment. Not as much as nintendo's of course, but still not great.

      However, I think that "stealing" a game from them is not really that big a deal. For a start it would only truly have been stolen if it was no longer going to appear on the PS3, which it is. Also, this is not the first FF title not to be exclusive to the PS3.

      Sony showed lots of cool games. Announced a cheaper line of games and a better console build. They also teased some important titles too. And I would like to point out that whilst they are CG trailers, if you remember they are on the PS3 (the one with superior graphics capability), then theres really no reason in fussing over whether they will look nice.

      The best I got out of Microsoft was the Fable (again) and what was shown did not impress me and Gears of War 2 which was nice, and looks like an amazing game. But, you can't run a press conference on 1 game. Don't even get me started on the Mii's were getting. I for one am shocked nintendo is not suing.

  • internetcoward, on 07/20/2008, -3/+4I think microsoft mixed with the poor economy has killed blu ray with teaming u with net flix. If anything things got worse for the PS3 after e3. No ff13 exclusive, netflix on xbox, and a large line-up coming out soon for xbox. Oh cool games that were supposed to be out forever ago will finally maybe be out soon on PS3 and home might be almost done.
  • deadbaby, on 07/20/2008, -3/+4Not everything is a horse race. The media has just pounded it into your head so long you believe it. Sometimes it's a tie. Sometimes the outcome doesn't even matter. Stop being idiots with this "who won" crap. No one outside of the video game industry and fanboys cares at all about E3. Who wins or loses or ties is irrelevant. The sales numbers will prove who is winning an who is losing if you really need to label everything OCD style.

    While Sony and Nintendo pretty much play the console wars as if networking does not exist, Microsoft is bringing network technologies to a whole new level on their console.

Sony brought some good stuff, and I'm glad I can buy movies through my PS3(something I still can't do with my 360), I think Microsoft really brought it home in terms of games. In my opinion, follow-ups to existing IPs are just as good as new IPs, as long as they evolve said IP. For example, I didn't want to see a Gears 1.5, and I'm glad to say I didn't. They've upped the scale, upgraded the engine, fleshed out the characters and story, and they still managed to keep all of the stuff that made Gears of War such a great game. In my opinion, the video store and LittleBigPlanet are the only two things worth mentioning when it comes to Sony's Press Conference. While Microsoft did embarrass themselves more(You're In The Movies? What the *****?), they brought a bunch more games that I am personally interested in to the metaphorical party.

Don't think I'm a fanboy, though, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 are on my list of "Must Have" games this holiday. Just because, here's the full list(prioritized):

        Gears 2
        Resistance 2

        That's how it stands now. Obviously the list will change as time goes on.

Why doesn't he bash the price of the PS3 and all the stuff he said that was good about the PS3 was centered around games that we don't even know are good and that video crap that 360 all ready has (called it crap because I don't even use it on my 360 so calm down fanboys) while Microsoft announced Netflix merge, all those new updates and even Nintendo did something with their hardware with the Wiimotion plus. Sure, I'm looking forward to GOW 3 and such but no way in hell did they "win" E3. I call fanboy ***** on this article. Bury me you damn Sony fanboys

    Oh, and yeah, we saw a few seconds/minutes of CG trailer for a couple of games that probably won't be out till '09? AWESOME. Who cares about all the good 360 games we're getting in the next MONTHS.

    I think FF13 easily trumps a bloody video store and freaking sales charts.
