(I'm sorry, but naming a computer chip is like naming your genitals: you're compensating for something.)"
-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! - KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -9/+54"Everyone names their processors."
Yeah, I named the P4 in my box "The Dude." - enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49No, it comes down to...
"Don't buy a PS3 because its not worth it" Just like it says. Its not worth $600. - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40I hear the Wii will be even worse. In fact, I think it's best that NONE OF YOU wait in line at any of the stores in Fort Collins. Seriously. I don't want to see any of you ahead of me in line, spare yourselves, I promise I'll tough it out for the rest of you.
;) - itseffinkasey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38Hell it was worth it to me... I just got back from waiting in line to get my PS3... but I didn't even get it, I was number 8 out of 11 PS3's they had and I had my ticket and just about to get my PS3 when a man came up to us and offered to buy a ticket for $1800 I wasn't stupid like the rest and took his offer and went home!
- The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39You could have a 600hp Ferrari engine, but if the wheels are square, you're not going to get anywhere fast.

Everyone names their processors. - crombenevolant, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35The downside of the cell is that each core does not have it's own cache. That means they are really good for pure floating point calcs, but not so good for general computation. The irony here is that in a game system the majority of the floating point calcs occur in the GPU not the CPU, so you end up with a lot of horsepower that does not necessarily help you.
- jcims, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30I was at a Wal-Mart last night to see the release fanfare.
There wasn't any.
At 11:30pm five guys and one girl were sitting in the Tire & Lube section with their 'rain checks' for the units that Wal Mart received. Everybody else had gone home. I walked over to the electronics department and was a little surprised that the demo PS3 was 'unmanned'. As i walked up to it to check it out, i got a bit of a chuckle...there was a guy about 10' down the aisle playing a GameCube. - elektrohrmnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29The people who camped out aren't the losers here -- it's those who win their eBay auctions.
- haggie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30If you think that sitting in front of BestBuy for a week to get an electronic game that will be manufactured by the millions is worthwhile, the problem isn't Xbox v. PS3 v. Wii...
...the problem is YOU - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30What did they expect? PS3 launched with possibly 1 ok game and 6 crap ones.
- DoubtingThomas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Or if most of the wheel makers decide to stop making wheels to fit your car because:
1. They are to hard to manufactuer.
2. Nobody is buying your over-prived vehicle anyways. - sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Was she hot?
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Being an early adopter is never worth it for most people.
What's new?
The xbox 360 wasn't worth standing in line for, nor was the PS2, nor any console. Both this, and the CNN article came to the same conclusion: Don't adopt early.
No *****?
What I wanna know is what sony did to get this ***** from both time *and* cnn. They forget to pay off Time Warner? (Funny that they both answer to the same parent company...) - Terc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Many developers have been saying for almost a year that although the PS3 is a powerful machine, the actual game play and graphics are practically identical to the Xbox 360. This, combined with the higher development costs for a PS3 game (harder to develop for the "cell processor" and a poor development kit) and the high cost of the console mean the Xbox 360 is cheaper for developers and end users, and still delivers on graphics and game play.
Don't forget, the poor selection of games currently available on the PS3... now, how many games are currently available on an Xbox 360? - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17That's hilarious.
I checked out Best Buy lastnight to see what the scene was like.
Inside, they had a playable PS3 set up.
I watched a couple of guys play NBA 2007 or whatever, and I swear, this was their dialog:
"I have no idea how to control this thing. How'd you do that? wtf? How do you control this thing?"
Gotta love Sony's innovation on this one, eh? - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15It's been said before, but no one in this first wave are in it to play.
They're in it to exploit supply and demand. They're not sleeping over at Best Buy for a PS3, they're doing it for $1500 or $2000. - rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Its the same argument everyone made when the 360 came out, no killer app(s). But the 360 had Live on it's side. Sony has a fledgling service that if is anything like PS2 Online will become a complete joke. People knew the XBox would deliver a solid online experience and people still have doubts with Sony. So really, they're saying right now, not worth it. Wait for killer games, wait for a price drop, or wait to see what their online comes to offer and how well it does. Until then, don't take the plunge, its $600 you might be wasting.
- gamemaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Whatever sins Germans may have commited in their history, on days like this we can at least thank them for the invention of a marvelous word...
Schadenfreude:
Spelled Pronunciation[shahd-n-froi-duh]
–noun: satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune - DRawkus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15It just makes too much sense to wait on the PS3. The 360 has the better titles and a fully functional online system. Brand loyalty boggles my mind sometimes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16"Look the PS3 has dissapointing graphics"
THEN WHAT THE ***** ARE WE PAYING $600 FOR?
I DON'T CARE ABOUT ITS "PC" TYPE FEATURES!
Jesus christ way to kill your whole point with one line. - wolfzombie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I played Motorstorm at my local Best Buy yesterday as well. I must say, the graphics were ok, but the controls flat out sucked. It was slow to respond and felt like you were moving through jello. I also noticed the frame rate drop quite often, especially when dirt or smoke was involved on the screen. Lastly, an off-road driving game ins't the same without the rumble feature.
There were 15-20 people camped outside waiting for the release, and no one inside playing the demo console. There were 4 people playing the PS2 game and 2 playing the XBox 360.
All the hype outside the store and not near the demo consoles makes me believe that all the hype is about selling the units for double or triple the cost on eBay.
Overall, I was very unimpressed by the PS3. - rmacnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"People who have been camping out for days finally get their PS3s today. Sadly, both their time and money has been wasted."
I wouldn't say so:

Every single person I talked to camping out in line at multiple locations was interested only in selling the PS3. With eBay prices like that, it's really costing you upwards of $2000 to keep it. - piper999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15@sjm
Yes but the games have even worse reviews than the console. - nzeeshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12the controllers don't rumble as in vibrate when u shoot? WHATTT?
- bobbourland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14LOL...What hype!?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14It was a lame attempt to get a laugh that probably worked, but the truth is Microsoft and Nintendo do the same thing. The three big names are Broadway (Wii), Cell, and Xenon (not to be confused with Xeon).
- canti32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Where did you see that laugh? Are you hallucinating? Some of you sony fan boys are starting to get desperate aren't you.

What a lame attempt to not get dugg down. How about making a valid point? That might help you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Sony really ***** up with their price tag. I won't buy one until modchips come out and the used price drops to $150.
- Linh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10did he pay cash?
- MegatonSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I'm one of those people who's, "time and money has been wasted." I camped outside for 38 hours and am about to make at least $1300 in pure profit for the ordeal. I don't know about you people, but getting $30 an hour to sit around and read, play my DS and socialize with strangers seems like a good deal to me.
Some jackass paid me $1300 to wait in line for him. - opnickc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14"Almost all the PS3's outstanding games — F.E.A.R., Madden NFL '07, Need for Speed: Carbon, Call of Duty 3 — are available on the Xbox 360, and most (all except F.E.A.R.) are out for the Wii, too."
This makes me happy. I wouldn't buy a PS3 anyway, both because of supply and ridiculous price. But it's nice to know people like me wont be missing out, and the fact that the Wii is getting so many titles is in stark contrast to last-gen.
Sony's time is up. I don't know if the future belongs to the Xbox or the Wii, but I think the gaming industry will be better off regardless. - NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Good ol' boys

- MrMuffMeat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yeah, if I would have known that getting to wal mart at 8 yesterday morning would have scored me a 360, I definately would have waited for 16 hours to get one. I would have had no problem making $2,000 profit on ebay selling it. I would say those that waited are pretty smart, especially since that profit would pay for a lot of Christmas gifts (at least my thinking since I have to buy 2 kids christmas gifts).
- MrMuffMeat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I meant PS3 instead of 360, I clicked edit, but it didn't work.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Microsoft proved you can have a bad launch and still make it out ok in the end."
There's more to it than that.
Microsoft proved that you don't need to worry about the launch when you can beat the competition by a year, match its graphical power, steal some of its exclusive titles, have more developer-friendly tools, improve an already robust online system, and *still* manage to undercut its price.
Microsoft played their cards extremely well against Sony this time around. It may even be possible for them to beat Sony even though they've only had a few years of console experience (from the Xbox's late entry and the 360's head start, whereas Sony has been doing console work since the SNES)... which is something you would never catch me saying a year ago. Even if they don't do it this time, they'll easily be within striking distance on their third attempt.
Bravo, Microsoft... and, while I'm handing out the kudos, I should direct a tip of the hat to Nintendo as well. Sony, you just get a wag of the finger. You're lucky I don't have my own "On Notice" board... or you'd be on that, too. - cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Aww muffin, it's okay..
- xboxing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Just as with the 360, the better titles are coming just now, but to be honest, I checked out the PS3 demo unit in my local Wal-Mart last night and I was completely underwhelmed by the games. Yeah, I'm just commenting on the graphics, but as much as they hyped this thing, I was expecting more. Nothing on there looked any better than a 360 title and nothing CERTAINLY came close to the beauty of Gears of War.
- tardpicard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8rudeboys
- darkever, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Let's talk about PS3 when they actually have a game worth playing. You want Blu-Ray, wonderful. You want to play good games, buy something else and wait it out.
If anyone says Resistance, I'll puke. - kirk06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9People with real jobs tend to contribute to society...
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I always thought it was called the "sell processor". Subliminal advertising y'see...
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18agreed, as my PC's processor has proven, when I got it it was great a 3.2Ghz processor... but its not efficiant at all... and it overheats WAY to much...
I want to upgrade to like a Dual core, they aren't as powerful in the GHz but they get more preformance and efficienty than my 3.2... lol
Then again, if the Cell can manage to not overheat... and its multiple cores actually do it some good... it might be good... lol, though I've heard a lot of bad things about how they had to lower its power because it over heats easilly... =/
And frankly on topic of the article... its not that the PS3 isn't worth the hype... its just not worth the price in my eyes... when all I'd want to do is play a few games I like... it doesn't have those games... and i dont need its other features. - jarofclay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6good move
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10MrMuffMeat:
You are entitled to your opinion, and maybe the Wii isn't for you. I'm fine with you not buying one :)
It seems that the games you care about (Call of Duty, etc), are not yet the big hits on the Wii.
However, the titles that the Wii is relying on, are receiving raving reviews.
Zelda: 9.8-1.0
Excite Truck: 8.0
Super Monkey Ball: 8.4
Wii Sports: 7.4
Even Rayman (which is literally a port of the Gamecube version with new controls, got 8.3.
