exclusive game metal gear solid 4 - chocobomog, on 07/14/2008, -43/+133Wow, some digg users are still stuck in 2006 when it was cool to hate on the PS3 when it had no games, lack of firmware features, next-gen DVD with an uncertain future, and cost $600. Oh, and stupid quotes from the company execs.
Welcome to 2008, where getting a Blu-ray player, media server, free online, and a growing library of great games for $400 is not a bad deal. - indiancompanion, on 07/15/2008, -1/+57i still liked ratchet, maybee its just me i guess
- DontCountToday, on 07/15/2008, -2/+54I own a PS3, no XBox as of yet, but thats just because I havent had the money to spare. But I have been a Playstation kinda guy since i got into gaming basically, and I still dont see why its bad that the game is going to XBox and PS3. In my opinion, we are all gamers, and we all deserve to be able to enjoy the game. Share, gamers! Share!
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -6/+47I still remember the article about how 66% of all wii owners don't even play with it.
I'm one of those 66%.
#1 console baby! - superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -12/+50Little Big Planet.
That is All. - redrum671, on 07/14/2008, -26/+61not much of a big deal of PS3 having Metal Gear because 360 has Final Fantasy now.
- dagamer34, on 07/15/2008, -32/+62Final Fantasy XIII on the 360 kinda killed that.
- mywhitenoise, on 07/15/2008, -9/+38God of War, LBP, and Bioshock 2?
- chocobomog, on 07/14/2008, -11/+39And when is that coming out? 2010?
And seriously, how well have JRPGs done on the 360 so far? Blue Dragon? Trusty Bell? Lost Odyssey? Final Fantasy XI?
The Final Fantasy XIII loss is a definitely a blow, but it currently only affects fanboy talking points. When it finally does come out, it will still be primarily be purchased on the PS3 by the fans who bought the system for it. While 360 owners may gloat about gaining Final Fantasy XIII, past trends show that most don't care about actually buying JRPGs.
Regardless, there are plenty of enjoyable PS3 games that will be coming out between now and FFXIII's unspecified release. And since FFXIII is still coming out on the PS3, it doesn't affect this article's point. - elvenseven, on 07/15/2008, -1/+22You're screaming "Final Fantasy coming to Xbox 360" like it's going to be exclusive.
- elvenseven, on 07/15/2008, -4/+25How so? It's on the PS3 too.
- Velnich, on 07/15/2008, -0/+21This just in: People like picking sides.
- john2kx, on 07/15/2008, -13/+28This article smells like damage control so soon after the FFXIII news.
- Elranzer, on 07/15/2008, -13/+27"We" huh? You're thinking of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft as sports teams now? No wonder fanboys are so pathetic.
- sugarazor, on 07/15/2008, -0/+12"no one (other than gamers) will actually buy it"
Isn't everyone who plays video games a gamer? - bigbadgoat, on 07/14/2008, -14/+25You should change that to: a lot of us in the United States, because the PS3 pretty much owns the rest of the world at this point.
- redneckblues, on 07/15/2008, -4/+15Yes, yes it is.
- chocobomog, on 07/14/2008, -5/+16Blue Dragon (490k), Trusty Bell (250k), and Final Fantasy XI (170k) haven't even sold 500k worldwide, and Lost Odyssey didn't even sell 450k in the US (750k total).
For games by the creators of Final Fantasy (which sells millions) and on a system with 18+ million consoles worldwide, thats not very good. - Fremen93, on 07/15/2008, -10/+21I bought a PS3 just for the bluray and media player since a similar media player could cost me the same if I bought a Tvix HD etc. The fact that it also plays some games is a nice bonus....
I don't see how Xbox 360 can compete when you need/want bluray too - Alexcarrier, on 07/15/2008, -2/+13So, MGS4 is insignificant as an exclusive to the PS3, but FFXII on 360 instantly kills the PS3? Personally I don't own any console, but this logic seems flawed to me.
- Divals, on 07/15/2008, -2/+13Mustn't forget Resistance 2 :D
- ChileanGoD, on 07/15/2008, -9/+18As if the death of HD-DVD had nothing to do with it.
- Kanten, on 07/15/2008, -2/+11I know. I hate Microsoft too.
- Dracusis, on 07/15/2008, -2/+11Ignorance would mean that Sony wouldn't have listened to all fo the people that wanted a better PSN store, or in game XMB, or rumble controllers, but they've been giving consumers what they ask for.
Microsoft on the other hand have yet to give Xbox users free online play, have not given them a Blu-Ray option, continue to charge through the teeth for basic HDD upgrades and they still haven't fully fixed the quality control issues that cause the Red Rings Of Death.
Clearly, the only ignorant person here is you. - fadetoone, on 07/15/2008, -0/+10I play with my wii every so often. It has its ups and downs, its hard times, and sometimes fun times.
- santasing, on 07/15/2008, -3/+12Bioshock 2
LBP
Resistance 2
SOCOM
Killzone 2
God of War 3
White Kinght Story .... to name a few.
There are still 2 unknown exclusives to be unveiled at Sony's presser tomm. - username9000, on 07/15/2008, -8/+16I love how when its a Sony exclusive its "just around the corner!". When its no longer a ps3 exclusive, its "And when is that coming out? 2010?"
Funny. - frygar, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9You can still get Blu-rays from Netflix. What's your problem?
- MWilson1992, on 07/14/2008, -7/+15"but the PS3 is already expected to end up netting Sony a *huge* loss when it's all said and done."
I know, the PS3 secured Blu-ray as the next disc format, I mean Sony's really taking a hit from that! - Micropolis, on 07/15/2008, -9/+17The Netflix news was huge today. This will make it so no one misses the BluRay.
Between cable and Xbox Live I already stream so much HD content I don't miss it now. - superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -4/+12In what way? The PS3 has quite a few fantastic titles in the pipeline this year. The 360 lineup looked good, but as usual leads way heavy on FPS games.
- FuZi0nDET, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7You've obviously never watched a movie in Blu-Ray before. The over compressed crap that they pass off as HD on these on-line services is a joke. I'm willing to bet that many DVDs that are up-converted on a semi-decent up-converter will look better. Hell Transformers on HD-DVD still blows me away in comparison to the HD version I watched on cable. There isn't going to be an on-line HD service that can compete with Blu-Ray until you can actually get decent bandwith to download the movies at.
- INTERNETMASTER, on 07/15/2008, -3/+10I guess you didn't read the article.
"The PlayStation 3 outsold the Xbox 360 in the U.S. in the first five months of 2008 after trailing Microsoft's console in 2007." - Kanten, on 07/15/2008, -6/+13"Xbox gamers that are also Final Fantasy fans"
Virtually no such thing exists. Final Fantasy fans have been Playstation gamers for over a decade now. Unless you want to count the 4 people who play FFXI on 360. - fuse13, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7its not portal 2, its more of an expansion.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -4/+11Your in dangerous territory, this is a ps3 article on digg.
...There be fanboys watchin' - indiancompanion, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8$399.99*
- OmgRyan, on 07/15/2008, -6/+13Hm. I'm still rooting for LittleBigPlanet to be a gift from god. :]
- chocobomog, on 07/14/2008, -3/+10The PS3 hardware didn't change much in that time, the internet's perception of its value did. Although a price drop, firmware updates, Blu-ray win, and some fun games helped.
- scallon, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7I loved portal, but i have never met a single person, nor heard of one until just now who wants to play the game on a 360. Its a PC game, and you're delusional if you think if will have a significant impact on console sales.
God I hope you were being sarcastic and I'm just too tired to pick up on it. - piratearggghhh, on 07/15/2008, -5/+12At this point, I don't even think comparing console sales of PS3 vs. xbox 360 is even valid. So many people are buying the PS3 now as a blu ray player that you can probably coincide the spike in 2008 PS3 console sales with the announcement of HD DVD bailing out.
- santasing, on 07/15/2008, -6/+12Its 350, not 300. WiFi 100, controller charger 30, online 50/yr (if you have had a 360 for as long as you have been trolling, you would already have paid over 100 by now). So no, the 360 is definitely not cheaper.
Whether or not the 360 is worth the money and the hassle is left entirely to the customer to decide based on content. - superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6Have you actually SEEN what you can watch online from Netflix?
Hint: It's not any of the content that is popular on Blu-Ray. It's older TV shows and B movies.
I'm a Netflix subscriber and never use the instant watch feature, because almost nothing I care about is on it. - santasing, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7The 360 has sole 18 million units. The PS3 has sole 13. That a difference of only 5 million despite MS having a headstart.
If the PS3 can sell that number during the worst period of its lifetime (anyone remember last year on Digg?), they are doing something right. - superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8Oh, and how could I forget that the PS3 is the only console where developers know EVERY system has a hard drive and can program for it?
- TiMMY8765, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7I was looking forward to Valkyria Chronicles more that FF XII
- suntzusputnik, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7so far e3 says otherwise
- mywhitenoise, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8Dude, it took a year for 360 to deliver Gears. Shut the ***** up already.
- blurrie, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6by the time ps3 has a timely library under it's belt the the xbox 3 will be launching. it's not a knock on ps3 by any means.. it's just the ps3 was launched so later after the 360... not saying that the ps3 doesn't have the horse power to compete w/ the microsoft nexter gen... but the ps3 did suffer a big blow w/ the announcement of ff13 on the xbox as well.. gran turismo 5 will be a good one i'm sure.. killzone might be a great game, vaporware or a total let down.. lil big planet should be sweet... what are other epic ps3 exclusives in the future?
