It's ironic that I was just reading this. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -13/+39The funny thing is, they are releasing two (or three, rather) new versions of their past products and there, of course, will be an ample supply of them.
New edition of the PS2 and PSP (One with and one without a HD) are considerably less important to the gaming world than the PS3.
Oh how I hope they fall flat on their face this generation. - JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25If you are counting out the Wii because it's graphics are prettyful enough then you aren't a gamer, you're an idiot.
- ashingular, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Thinkbox, dissing an awesome strip like VGCats is one thing, but you're actually trying to impose your apparently-twisted sense of comic timing on something that is clearly ALREADY funny? *facepalm*
- andreo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+29@nreynolds:
I think everyone here loves good games. But the way Sony is handling this is almost comedic. I thought Microsoft screwed up with their launch but Sony has manged to make the 360 launch look like the prime example of a console launch.
The only way this could get worse for Sony is if consoles start failing left and right after launch. And the only thing that could top that is if Sony takes no responsibility for the failures.
Sony is digging its own grave here. And if they fall on their face they have nobody to blame except themselves.
I have to wonder how many people decided to bite the bullet after hearing the price of the PS3 but then turned their back on the console because yet again (speaking from the PS2 launch fiasco) Sony isn't producing enough consoles to even come close to satisfying demand.
The entire thing leaves one hell of a bad taste in my mouth and I think I'll be waiting until next summer or so to actually own a console for myself. If I didn't already have a pre-order in for a PS3 I wouldn't even be thinking about looking to own one until next summer or so. - ekleinunt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Hey, "***** idiot,"
Click the link. Ebay is putting tight restrictions on PS3 sales, including copies of ID's, electric bills, etc. - Easty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I think you dropped the words '***** huge' there somewhere.
- lostmongoose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16For all the lackwits out there, ebay is removing auctions for the preorder receipts. Once people have the PS3 physically in thier possession, ebay can't legally stop them from selling them as it's not illegal to do so and they didn't do anything about 360 auctions. So mywhitenoise is very much correct.
- wolkengrau, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I won't buy a PS3 anyway, but reading this I came to realize, that even if you consider to buy a PS3, you should wait for some time - hell, perhaps you're forced to wait.
The whole system is completely experimental as I perceive the situation. Sony still has problems producing a sufficient amount of Blu-Ray diodes, this seems dangerous from a quality point of view. I for one wouldn't be surprised, if we hear about a big failure rate of the Blu-Ray drives after November 17th. - MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20061011
And now we all know the real reason: A shortage of pineapple. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow. You're buying a consumer electronics device in a clever attempt to 'spite' a lot of anonymous Internet forum users you'll never see or meet in your life. You have some serious issues, my friend.
That being said, I'm buying one as well. So I can sell it to someone like you for $1500+. What's your address? :D - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Oh yeah, well I went to the same school Superman and Robocop went to. My PhD thesis was on destroying tanks with flamethrowers.
- jsdratm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11As an engineer, I can't believe that any company would gamble their product's success on two brand new and untested technologies (i.e. cell processor and blu-ray). There aren't even any economically priced HD-DVD or Blu-Ray drives out right now. At least MS was smart enough to leave the HD-DVD as an add on option instead of integrated equipment. Sony made a dumb move and I think it serves as a good lesson to every other company.
- MrFrostyUK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9A little harsh, but Sony are making some strange decisions recently.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You two are morons...buying something to go against a bunch of people you don't know and will never meet. I don't know what's dumber: actually buying it because of that or admitting it out loud.
- FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Lowered numbers and delays hurt the game developers more than anyone. I imagine everytime Sony lowers their numbers, PS3 developers start kissing their holiday bonuses goodbye.
- aweraw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@WhereAmI & zetsurin
WOW
that's the funniest ***** thing I've heard so far today. Have fun with your SpiteStation3... LOL! - SushiK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Who wants to bet half the PS3s on ebay at launch are actualy from sony HQ trying to get some profit from the PS3 due to the reduced launch numbers?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15"At least we won't have to worry about eBay profiteering this time around."
What a ***** idiot, how is any of what was mentioned in the article going to stop people from putting them up on ebay? - MrFrostyUK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Serves 'em right for putting blu-ray in their console - feel kinda sorry for PS fans right now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4buh bye $ony

as a consumer if that's not enough to convince you to stay aways from their products, then you are a very poor consumer, a lemming - Septimus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That and they have had to delay their stand alone Blu-Ray players also.
They really have put all their eggs in one basket with Blu-Ray. - DeepFreezed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4worst part of all this is, that PS3 comes an year later and no major advantage over the 360.
If MS had this time they would have put a fully DX10 compatible GPU and a Quad processor into it. - crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And the chickens too it would seem.
Sony won't go down, but they will take a beating.
The next system they do, they will think twice before trying to rush something like this. - pauleku, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5sony is really good at exaggerating the truth and then slicing off the lies from the top until your left with something far less than was once promised to you. hi Wii.
- tinkertoy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Sony unfortunately has over promised what the PS3 could do for holiday sales, and now they're trying to save face by putting out a smaller launch--yes to create an artificially high "hype demand," but also to minimize their losses, both financial and PR. If they sent out a high number of defective units the recall costs would be far outweighed by the excruciatingly bad publicity. I think the Sony corporation has already jumped the shark with their PS2 slim and PSP. Time for Sony to chop some executive heads and find a new CEO.
- Mullinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry Azur but you know just as little about the PS3 games comming out. Are you really that excited over what the Sony hype machine has been feeding you?
OOOOOOO TEH OOLTRA ADVANCED TEH GRAPHICS!!1!1!! NOW IM TEH REAL GAMER!!1! - spoonard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is this news surprising to anyone? Not I, Sony is kicking it's OWN ass here! lol
- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Note: This has nothing to do with the above linked strip, I thought it was awesome.
VGCats is a good comic, but I tend to hate the author himself. His opinions on various issues seems to sway and change with the general "internet opinion". For example, when the Wii info was released, he went ahead and said it might be the downfall of Nintendo. However bad or good the Wii does, Nintendo is not going away. I like his comics, but I think his opinions represent ones you would see from the implusive commenter on digg who doesn't think about what he is really saying. - Nintendo5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The trojan turned into a lead weight.
- csGeekGirl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4at least nintendo came up with an original idea...even if u cheat you're less likely to get 100% on a test if you can only copy half of ur neighbors answers correctly...
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 I'm sure similar list can be made for any enormous company; none are without fault.
You also forget that the average consumer has a very short term memory. I read digg daily and like to think I keep up with the news, but before reading your list I only remembered 1-2 (the last one is a joke I assume) of these "facts". After reading it I remembered another 2, and I still don't know what you are talking about with the first one. Do you think the average consumer who doesn't read the hate-Sony messages on digg will even remember, or care, about any of this?
As long as Sony makes great products the consumers will buy them. Period.
A better comparison to lemmings is to that relatively small group of people who do nothing but flood websites with their "hate" for a company because one portion of that company is making a product which may or may not rival another product which those people like more. It's "cool" to bash Sony, let's all do it! - piratearggghhh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's strange is
1.) This is Sony's 3rd console - they should be launch experts by now.
2.) They saw and even ridiculed MS for their 360 shortage, you would think they would avoid this at all cost.
3.) Sony is a hardware company while MS is just outsourcing everything. - Mullinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No biggy, since the Cell is so different from the 360 CPU and the majority of game players have no idea how to judge real performance by looking CPU specifications Sony could just as well argue that the cell is still more than twice as powerful as any new 360 hardware and still get away with it.
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well, as long as I get my two, the less the rest of the world gets, the better.
1. Profit! - Sutanreyu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is old...
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Already denied and disproven. The quote was an old one dredged up. See updates.
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/20/ps3-may-not-make-year-end-2-million-production-mark/
Buried as inaccurate. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3@jsdratm
You could also say the same thing about Nintendo. The Wiimote is a massive gamble and the significant difference is that the only market Nintendo is games. Sony have a much more diversified portfolio, so now need to spout all the doom and gloom. And definitely no need to pan a company for trying new tech. - mathmanjeffy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Why can't ebay legally stop them from selling them through their service again?
- skoles, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7Didn't they only just start building these late this Summer anyway?
Kinda last minute to begin with. - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Is that why PS3 pre-orders sold out in half an hour?
yes, low quanity also.
but they still sold out. they had 12-15 per store right?
I know people that are camping out for the PS3 at BullBuy.
In other words: The PS3 will not bomb. Deal with it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Nah, I'm counting out Wii because it's low-tech low-price crap. Why buy it when it's not any better than a PS2, has fewer games than PS2, and is more expensive than a PS2?
Oh yeah, it's got a nunchaku controller!
Besides, you know jack ***** about the quality of the games beyond the hype Nintendo's been feeding you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3-removed ekleinunt beat me to it
- tendonut, on 10/12/2007, -18/+9Having them around causes more people to loose their jobs. They are looking to take out both Nintendo AND Microsoft. They are just getting in way over their heads and can't get out now that they have committed.
On a side note, Sony doesn't make very many good games at all. They are ALL 3rd party support, unlike Microsoft and Nintendo. If Sony disappeared, the gaming world wouldn't really be effected. All their hit titles just end up on the Xbox 360. - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3I don't know what ***** engineering school you went to, but I goto a school for engineering that tells us to push the boudries and use new technologies. Hint to my school: a graduate is a CEO of nVidia
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Yep, the negative press on here is what told me I actually need a PS3. I was a little on the fence before, but all the talk prompted me to look into it, now I have one on order because a) the reviews have been impressive (you'll never see the good ones posted here) and b) it's my way of pledging support for something that hundreds of insecure little diggers seem so afraid of. All this talk actually brought me closer to make the decision.
THANK YOU DIGGERS. - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3meh, I feel like I am getting a deal on my PS3. I was going to wait until some bugs are out, but I am going to get one JUST TO PISS YOU DIGGERS OFF!
- jsdratm, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Sony makes low quality products in every area. Their electronics are garbage, their computers are garbage, and yes, their consoles are garbage. I won't cry when the PS3 bombs and Sony loses what little capital it has.
- leadHairRaiser, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2old marketing trick. Create an artificial 'shortage' just before Christmas
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -24/+7regardless of its accuracy, ive started to feel pretty bad for Sony, whereas before i laughed in its face. I hope the thing at least gets released. =[
