- Xuqu, on 10/12/2007, -8/+94I don't believe anything on digg.com anyway, it's a tabloid run by kids with multiple digg accounts basically.
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -9/+50This won't get to the front page. Now, if you added a bit of "PS3 suXX0rs" to the title, you'd be guaranteed a frontpage story.
- soulknowledge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45People need to stop siding so strongly with companies.... no company is infallible... their primary goal is to make money... so anyway they can get away with it they will... Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft... they all do good things as well as try to rip off the consumers... there's a fine line between having an opinion and being a fanboy...
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39Wow. When I said it wasn't true, I got -80.
- kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39You mean a false story made the front page?
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Regardless of the submitter's maturity, he makes a valid point. Fanboys are unfortunately the majority on Digg, and valid, true articles get buried into oblivion because people don't like what they're seeing. Digg is supposed to be social news, not social opinion; that's what the submitter is trying to say.
- KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28its very hip to be anti-sony.
- krisper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Do people really do that multiple account thing? Holy crap, we need to reinstate the draft.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Well I encountered at least 1 multi-account person in another recent anti-Sony thing where the person said that he had all three systems, and hated his PS3 then said he was going to take it back. He only had one digg, however, and he registered on that day the story came out, plus he made the story his "1",
It's really lame to see how desperate some people are to try and justify their positions on the consoles.
Personally, I think it's all childish, which is why I'm going to be getting all 3 consoles as soon as possible. - MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21This was already debunked within the last article, anyway. A few people had already posted that these were moves made soley by those specific retailers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25I no longer use Digg as a source for any kind of news, sometimes I'll find something cool, but for the most part it's just way too biased and nothing how it was when it first began
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19It just wouldn't be DIGG without a "PS3 is taking my money" story on the front page.
- calbff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@Xuqu
I'm shocked your comment has been dugg up so much. I'm glad someone had the kahones to say it. - ShadowMarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Your attitude sucks. But I'll dig it just to help the system. It's fairly important that in a socially-generated news site that we make sure untrue stories don't go unchallenged.
- cookiemonster01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12They're just adjusting for inflation.
Futureshop and Best Buy are the same company also. - Jaq524, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I love when people say this; they always seem somewhat red-faced when they realize that the story did, in fact, make it to the front page.
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15@ Jaq524
*is caught red-faced* - Tippis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10*shock*horror*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+25Digg.com smells more like a pile off steaming ***** everyday. Time to wipe your bum Kevin Rose.
- TheAkolyte, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Too bad it did.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well here is some vindication for you. +1 Digg.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sometimes, the feeling of being pleasantly surprised triumphs over the feeling of embaressment :)
- SirBriggs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I'm a Nintendo fanboy and I gotta say this Sony slamming is going a bit too far. It's a good console if you want to give up almost a grand right away. Some people wanna pay top dollar for high end graphics. Anyone know if the price raise in UK is inaccurate too?
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"something that can't even compete with the 360"
Here's some survival Japanese for you if you ever visit Japan:
"360 ga hoshikunai" => I don't want a 360.
"nihon de 360 ga ninkijanai" => The XBOX is not popular in Japan.
"360 BAKA! PS3 no houga ii" => XBOX sucks. The PS3 is better.
Learn those phrases and you will fit in just like a local there. - theaceoffire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For the record, ANYTHING could compete with anything.
I think you meant "Can't compete and win".
Even then, I don't know if that works... All Xbox 360 needs to fail is a few bad business decisions.
Even so, I hope both companies start dropping prices of the older systems so I can have a full set. You too nintendo.
^_^ - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sometimes NOT is the only sensible word to use in response to a CONFIRMED that generally is fake ***** on digg.
- KingMoses, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Don't forget pro-Apple and very, very liberal.
- 0olong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Krymore you are so full of ***** I can smell it through the monitor.
Fact: People wanted to make Sony look bad. This is a daily thing on Digg.
Fact: They were wrong. - Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Us in the UK still have to pay £425 for it. Unfortunately, it is accurate.
- biochem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5For all of you who dont know, Futureshop and Bestbuy are owned by the same company. So its their parent company who decided to raise the price and not a coincidence that two stores increased the price simultaneously.
Also, they do price matching, so any smart shopper can show them an add for other stores who kept the lower price and they will have to match it plus 10% i believe. - GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Krymore
The cell processor is a great processor, and it is currently being developed in a supercomputer. Sorry. I know that you are anti-Sony, but are you anti-IBM? IBM and Toshiba both realise the scalable power of the Cell processor, which is why they're helping research it and implement it into powerful computers. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just remember that the price of the Wii in UK converts to $350US so it's not exactly unprecendented to be paying more for something here.
- christianboutin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As mentioned by cookiemonster01, Bestbuy and Futureshop are one and the same. We used to only have Futureshop which already was "A Bestbuy Company". But now Bestbuys are popping everywhere, right next door to Futureshops. Creating a myth of competition that just doesn't exist. So visiting both stores and assuming that if it's the same in both stores it must be the same in the rest of the world, is just nonsense.
- Fhionnlaoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Exactly, each even has different sales and promotions, so if you want to buy Perfect Dark Zero at Best Buy this week, it will cost you 39.99, but at Futureshop it will cost you 19.99.
Anyway, the price of the Caadian dollar has barely moved so I don't see how it justifies a $50 price increase. Best Buy and Futureshop are just trying to ***** the consumer up the ass. I for one am tired of bleeding out my ass due to the asshats at this company. Too bad there's no one else to shop at. :( - bchang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Best Buy and Future Shop are the same company. Best Buy bought future shop a while ago, thats why all there flyers and advertisements look exactly the same. They only keep Future Shop to make it seem like there is some friendly competition going on.
- willwnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At Wal-Mart yesterday the price wasn't raised either.
- Gunegune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Remember the Apple Pippen?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Pippin - StateofMind09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm surprised that this made it to the front page. I was wrong for putting my opinion in the description like that- wrong for doing it and apparently wrong period.
I was just tired of arguing with people that Sony didn't raise the price before this article popped up is all. I've seen too many situations like this where a false story was a top story and the truth never even got out. - Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because of changes in the US/CAD exchange rate canadian retailers are now paying 685 wholesale per console for the 60GB model. And yes, i have seen this price on actual commercial invoices.
- Boofster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Aren't the Canadian and US versions the same? AKA region A or 1 or whatever?
So why don't/haven't the Canadians bought the thousands that were/are on ebay for retail cost? - inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So then it's a tactic:
[Customer inside voice]: i'm going to ask about their price policy and have it cheaper than Wallmart
could it be that? - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm not getting any of the 3 systems out there; I'll wait for when Apple decides to launch a gaming system.
//Holy ***** I'm so bored I'm talking so much crap - UncleCrapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, they are the same company and after two years of agressive Best Buy store expansion in Canada they are beginning to differentiate between the two chains. In a recent electronics retailer trade magazine, I read that Future Shop is intended to become the "premiere" retailer while Best Buy will move solidly into the "value" category, This is already largely the case as you will find many of the higher quality brand names only at Future Shop and the cheaper, lesser known brands at Best Buy. Even the "greatest hits" releases by Sony, Nintendo, etc. are $5 cheaper at Best Buy for the same titles at Future Shop.
- Jangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am sick of people saying "they are a company in the business to make money!!" I know that numb nuts; welcome to business 101. There is a difference between making money and taking a ***** on customers; whether that be Sony, Best Buy or Futureshop!
Honestly the only people that will suffer this price increase are the uninformed, and I say they deserve it. - emjaymj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Because even with the price increase, Canadians get it for cheaper than Americans
- theg58, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is got nothing to do with this story...but I still want to complain
"Starbucks is taking my money!"...
I spend at least 10 bucks a day there...It is evil... - supersteve, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1my buddy works at Best Buys and said they raised the price of the system becasue no one is buying them. The few that do sell may make up for the load they don't sell. Not sure if i trust him but he does have PS3 and thinks it so-so.
take it as you will - Decipher13, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0They've raised the price everywhere I've been. Seems the 20GB model has been discontinued at a few places as well.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I'm a pround PS3 basher but this is in no way Sonys move but I did think that Video game makers regulated their prices to retailers .
If you buy shyt from Bestbuy you're retarded anyway and I bet those PS3's for that mark-up will still get sold - meokazi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0i still wont buy one =l
