- EMFK, on 01/27/2009, -2/+44I hope they're denying this because they're already working on it. :-)
- shoeless1542, on 01/27/2009, -0/+30They need a second analog stick, not a touchscreen.
- elliott9, on 01/27/2009, -1/+22dont get too excited. This article is to tell you Sony is saying it is a lie.
- Raedyn, on 01/27/2009, -11/+27A PSP with a touchscreen?!? Sign me up! I've already had the PSP-1001 & the PSP-2001. Loved them both. And it looks sweet!!!
- MadEnvoy, on 01/27/2009, -2/+17Sony loves to shoot its own penis off.
- godinster, on 01/27/2009, -4/+18Hopefully it's easily moddable like the original, homebrew's the only reason I use my PSP.
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -2/+15denial is the 2nd step?
- CoD4, on 01/27/2009, -1/+11that's why we have people like dark alex
- NGliam, on 01/27/2009, -2/+12I wouldn't mind a touch screen PSP as long as they also improved the hardware. The thing I liked about the PSP were that it had proper games on it compared to the DS, if the PSP had a touchscreen then there might be a slew of random crap games that focus on the touchscreen.. I don't think that'd be the case though.
- feliks2, on 01/27/2009, -1/+11That takes balls.
- Jelga, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8I have both the DS and PSP and they both have their fair share of decent games. Yes, the PSP has some good games, contrary to popular belief.
- FFXIfrohike, on 01/27/2009, -1/+9Maybe they're denying it because it isn't true? Touchscreen sucks.
- Jelga, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7With an even brighter screen!
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -2/+9Denial = true
- ZigVicious, on 01/28/2009, -1/+8And a penis
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -1/+7They deny them so people don't hold off and wait.
- Topher06, on 01/28/2009, -1/+7I am glad you are not designing my portable game device, what you want is a laptop.
- colonelxc, on 01/28/2009, -1/+7I deny getting laid right now.
Damn, didn't make it true. - skellener, on 01/27/2009, -1/+7I thought the rule of thumb was when Sony officially denies things, that is proof that they are doing whatever it is.
- ryansimbalist, on 01/27/2009, -2/+8Right...Homebrew...
- AmnesiacJack, on 01/27/2009, -2/+7Of course they're denying it, people would buying the current PSP and just wait for the 2nd one. Why would they risk losing sales now when they need them the most?
- soopertoll, on 01/27/2009, -1/+6whats wrong with buttons?
hope there's gonna be a good polishing towel included. - Jelga, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5@MasterGrief: You still use 1.5? Wow, you're really missing out.
- inactive, on 01/27/2009, -0/+5Ya, but the DS is missing the proper, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat (That's not a touched up MK3), Twisted Metal and Crazy Taxi.
- Topher06, on 01/28/2009, -1/+5Credible news source? IGN put a picture of a regular PSP with a finger on the screen and made wild speculations, business as usually IMHO.
- Namco, on 01/27/2009, -1/+5I WANT TO BELIEVE
- AndrewDB, on 01/27/2009, -3/+7I could of sworn Nintendo has a portable touch screen game device copyright..
- handheldchimp, on 01/27/2009, -0/+4Actually, it takes one bullet and one penis...both are destroyed in the process.
- JollyDumple, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4Sure, whatever you say, Sony. I can't wait to see what the new PSP looks like.
- dontlookleft, on 01/28/2009, -1/+5Don't they deny every speculation regardless of its truthfulness?
Like when price drops are predicted correctly and they deny the eff out of them, but they end up being right. - godinster, on 01/27/2009, -0/+4Yes, homebrew. I know you're sitting there rolling your eyes thinking I'm a huge pirate but I'm not. Even if I was, what would I pirate on the PSP? There's about two good games, both of which are packaged in PSPs so you get them free anyway. Cave Story alone is reason enough, and there's a lot of neat stuff out there to use for it.
- NecroSexy, on 01/27/2009, -2/+6IGN is credible?
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4 But I take care in keeping my beautiful PSP screen pristine and fingerprint free. I could do without the touchscreen but I like the formfactor in that picture.
- winterorchid, on 01/27/2009, -3/+6I think they've gone Ninty.
Deny all rumors to interest the consumers.
Wow... its worked on me!
Maybe a PSPi? - JamesMorris, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3loooool. Keep dreaming.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/27/2009, -2/+5every time they deny a new product is about to hit... it ALWAYS HAS, you're such a bad liar sony. Can't wait to see the new PSP.
- Elranzer, on 01/28/2009, -2/+5Tiger Game.com and Zodiac Tapwave all were portable touchscreen handhelds that existed before the DS. Even Palm OS had games for it, if you could call them games.
Of course, they all failed miserably. Nintendo had the first SUCCESSFUL touchscreen handheld. But the first, they weren't. - DivisibleByZero, on 01/27/2009, -2/+5Yeah, the DS had Loco Roco, Metal Gear, Grand Theft Auto, God of War. PSP only had crappy Baseball...
I don't know how Sony ever thought they could compete against those brand names.
(I do agree with you on the Homebrew though. Wish Sony would have done more to allow it) - conversekid, on 01/27/2009, -3/+6I could only imagine how original everybody would find that idea.
- Elranzer, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Sony would deny the PSP2, even if it were real, because they don't want potential buyers to hold off buying PSP originals in place of the PSP2. With 2009's line-up, it looks like it would be a good year to push PSP units out. They'll announce it at an opportune time. Don't expect to see it outside of E3 2009 or 2010.
A PSP2 would be the perfect product to release half-way through the PS3's life, since many are already demanding a PS4, and Sony has a 10 year plan for the PS3.
That said, remember all the iPod Video and iPhone speculation and denial before the products were announced? They're called "worst-kept secrets" for a reason. - Yoshiler, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Wow, TechRadar sucks balls.
http://psp.ign.com/articles/947/947580p1.html
Does it say this is true anywhere in this article? Anywhere at all? No. It seems more like IGN editors, bored out of their minds, pull things out of their asses. It is their SPECULATION. - DreamSpirit3, on 01/28/2009, -2/+5Thats why I bought the DS 3 years ago.
- TheTjalian, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2As long as the PSP 2 is compatible with PSP games in some form, count me in. I'd hate to have to leave my God of War: Chains of Olympus and Wipeout Pure on the side when the latest shiny thing comes out.
I suppose a PSP2 makes sense, though. I mean, it would explain why there's a major lack of PSP games coming out lately, as the developers are all preparing PSP2 games. If this comes true at GDC or E3, then I may just skip getting my PSP repaired and opt for getting a PSP 2. We'll see. - cloud858rk, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3ROFLMAO.
- TheTjalian, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3Except there's no retail games, no remote play and no decent N64 emulator for either (even the PS1 emulator pales in comparison).
- pixelate, on 01/28/2009, -2/+4"As hard as it might be to believe, there are people who like different games than you. You're no gamer if you feel everyone has to like every game you do."
How does this comment almost IMMEDIATELY follow telling him that every item on his list of some very well-reviewed and commercially successful DS titles was garbage??
You are mind-boggling, Tahiri. But admittedly fascinating. In a poke-the-poor-dog-with-a-stick kind of way. - Elranzer, on 01/28/2009, -2/+4"No it doesn't."
Yes it does. All of the good J-RPGs are on the DS. You'll only find Dragon Quest IX, the Final Fantasy III and IV remakes, The World Ends with You, DQ4 and DQ5 remakes and other RPGs on the DS.
New Super Mario Bros trumps every platformer on the PSP. There's also the new Kirby games, the DS Castlevania games, etc.
Plenty of games make good use of the stylus, they're not just all shovelware minigames. WarioWare: Touched, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright and the original Cooking Mama all make great use of the stylus.
Hell, the only good version of Animal Crossing is on the DS.
Let's not be a delusional Sony fanboy. Thanks. - Estrange, on 01/27/2009, -1/+3that would be the ***** if its real
- Elranzer, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2The first PSP2 will be backwards-compatible with PSP games out of the box, but it will cost $300.
The second revision of the PSP2 will then drop PSP compatibility and make it $100 cheaper. - Elranzer, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3The PSP has a beautiful screen. Would hate to see it smudged up with fingerprints.
