there you go...take that comment over there - RazorElite, on 10/12/2007, -15/+87Is Sony ***** retarded? Since when are these "requirements"? Last time I checked, these were choices. This is just a lame attempt to make it seem like all that BS they're shoving down your throat with the PS3 is actually needed and worth the cost.
"We hear Microsoft ain't too happy about this chart either and is preparing certain legal action..."
I'd do the same thing too. For a competitor to just make up some baseless fact sheet insulting your product, I'd say is a pretty low move. It's reasons like these why everyone (except the few Sony fanboys) now hate Sony. Underhand tactics just aren't cool. - Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42you know what really gets me? I miss the days when Sony didnt have to do this *****. There was enough buzz over their new systems and games, that they didnt have to take the low road. I want the old Sony back, cause as much as I am annoyed at them now, I really want to go back to the days of having respect/trust for them as a company. Lets hope they turn around...cause in the end its best for us all.
- mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -15/+52"It's pretty clear that it means "requirements to have the same functionality." They're just trying to show that the ps3 can be a good value."
Well then, why did they chose the Core system? If they really wanted to be fair, they would chose the Premieum 360. That would take $50 dollars off of the price for the wireless contoroler, and it comes with a media center remote, wich could be a extra $20 or $30 dollars for the remote. Also, because Sony refuses to go with a centralized server system like microsoft, Internet gaming costs can vary. Companys can charge what ever they want for playing online with the PS3, while Microsoft has the centralized server system. Also, Xbox Live Silver is free. - mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -13/+49The Sony Paradox:
SONY: OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS RETARDED CONSUMERS
SONY: BUT OUR PRODUCTS ARE TOO HARD FOR RETARDED CONSUMERS TO USE - Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37"I don't think they were saying that this is what you need, they were just comparing value..."
well if you had RTA you would have seen that they said....."you're REQUIRED to buy the 20GB drive add-on, an HD DVD drive, a wireless controller, and an Xbox Live sub"
Its all in the wording....most people on Digg wouldnt fall for this wording...but the average person on the street might. And to me thats just a disgusting way to try and trick the uninformed. - kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29i like how they say 'required to buy'
i also like the $0 for first 6 months, for the wii internet access. that's only for the browser. you get online play/etc for free.
same for xboxlive gold vs silver.
oh sony. - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -32/+57It's pretty clear that it means "requirements to have the same functionality." They're just trying to show that the ps3 can be a good value.
I don't know why they went to all that trouble when the ps3 and the 360 cost the same after 2 years of xbox live. - G5Unit91, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29This is basically like a car sales man saying "You bought a mustang, but wait! You need to buy a GPS, a better engine, leather seats, surround sound system, electronic seats, etc to compare to the BMW! But see the BMW is a better value beacuse..."
If someone only has $299, they can only spend $299! - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25the official sony HDMI cable will cost $50. btw
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -11/+33Sony simply doesn't prepare for anything. They go into these conferences and just make ***** up. The sixaxis, release dates, and now other boxes specs.
Quick! Someone write down what they heard anyone say about MS and Nintendo's consoles! What? Nintendo's still using cartridges? Sweet, we've got this locked down then! - Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25"The only place it says requires is engadget. Just because they italicize it doesn't mean it's true. It's a price comparison, they are just adding the items to match the playstation 3's configuration. Idiots..."
well unless Engadget made that chart as well, cause it says right on the chart "requires users to buy"...which is flat out incorrect.
If Engadget did make the graphic as well....then I would give them a big F U....but somehow I dont think thats the case. - Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Sony's so full of *****, it's coming out of their mouths.
- ryanscott, on 10/12/2007, -11/+29"XBox 360 sucks anyway.
Who would waste their money on it for second rate titles and sub par/overpriced hardware."
or time writing such an ignorant statement? - deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Did you know the Xbox 360 supported tax increases 17 Times!
Vote Sony this November and cut the pork. - pixarman, on 10/12/2007, -11/+29Sony forgot to add requires you to buy and HDMI cable @ $100....or even component cables. They also left out requires to purchase headset for the PS3. And if we are to follow Sony through the golden gates, we're required to purchase a 1080p HDTV.
Just because Sony "requires" that you have all those extras doesn't mean 360 and Wii do. - mjpatey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Sony reminds me of a desperate incumbent politician, losing in the final weeks before the election!
- thefirstenemy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19At least with the 360 you have the choice of just buying a console for playing games, not all the extra stuff Blu-Ray. MS gives you a choice, none of that stuff is required.
- theseaweedking, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I hate the chart that has the different communications methods. The PS3 has "10 Base-T, 100 Base-TX, and 1000 Base-T" whereas the Xbox 360 has "Ethernet port"... what they fail to mention is that those are ethernet technologies. So they're basically all like, "You're wearing a t-shirt, but I'm wearing a 100% cotton woven Hanes upper body garment! You might have a nose, but I have an olfactory machination crafted by God himself!" I think it's arrogant.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15they did that with UMD, worked great!
and by great i mean awfully - flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20sony just can stop digging itself into a hole can it?
- imjustsayin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I hope that's sarcasm.
The 360 memory unit is $40 not $50 list and can be purchased for about $30.
Live is $50 a year not $50 a month. Currently it is money well spent if you like on-line gaming. Sony has to prove that they can compete for free. Maybe they can, we will see.
I'm not exactly sure what your point on the controller is. If you are saying that nobody likes the controller, I think that you are in the minority in that opinion, but you are entitled to it. If you are saying that you have to buy another controller to get a wireless one (if you purchase the Core), then you are right, but at least then you would have 2 controllers rather than 1. - KiriA500, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I like having options. If I don't want to watch HD-DVD's, I don't have to buy the add-on.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14@Prince2k3
Wow, you're dumb.
> Someone tell me how a xbox 360 is next generation when it really can't run games in HDMI which is the standard for HD anything.
Since when does the cord that is used to send data define whether a console is 'next-gen' or not ? Oh yeah, HDMI isn't the standard for HD anything, HDMI, Component and VGA are.
Also, you might want to know that Component cables can transmit 1080p too and the quality of it vs HDMI cables is neglible to basically everyone besides those AV freaks.
> sony can say we support True HD.
HdMI isn't "True HD," that's just marketing rubbish from Sony.
I can't get over how dumb you are.
> Microsoft has also been doing alittle bit of lying to saying they can support 1080p but most of the TVs that do use HDMI cables which xbox doesnt support.
So, they do support 1080p (So they aren't lying) and most TVs that do have 1080p support have HDMI AND component.
> Microsoft has lied to us plenty of times and hid it well.
Lied about what ? They've basically produced upon EVERYTHING they've said regarding the Xbox 360, unlike Sony who has being lying constantly since E3 2005.
> My opinion ps3 is better since it really has the next generation feel and look.
Next generation "feel" and "look" - like I said, I can't believe how dumb you are.. well, you are the companies "Stupid consumer" dream customer.
> Xbox 360 runs under using dvd player that not next generation. How will xbox 360 support games in the future.
It will support games in the future with guess what, DVD ! Wow. Also, if you compare the growth of the size of games for the past years and the media they where distributed on all things point towards DVD being perfectly capable for this generation. Also, lots of space doesn't mean a better game.
> Microsoft is for now and not the future they never think ahead.
It's not like they where the first with a hard drive, unified online service, wireless standard, first with HD, have a HD-DVD drive, will have native 1080p support, etc.
Yeah, they soo don't think for the future.
> And my last nugget is that 1 HD picture takes up to about 500 GB to 1 GB , depending on the size of the picture, of space and uncompressed images are even higher.
You really shouldn't make things up, you already sound like a complete moron.
I downloaded a trailer in 720p which went for ~4 mins or so and it was around ~350MB, so, why would a single "HD Picture" take up 500MB to 1GB.
----
Bottom line is, you're completely clueless/stupid and have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Thank goodness I won't have to put up with morons like you on Xbox Live as you'll be there with your AMAZING PS3s. - Herffinator, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16P.P.P.S- Sony are a bunch of gaylords
- CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12"Just because Sony "requires" that you have all those extras doesn't mean 360 and Wii do."
Well said. - davodavo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9So did your comment actually say anything?
"If you don't pay a lot more it's going to be cheaper". - TheBrandman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10They forgot to mention that the Wii has an SD port. They also neglected to factor in extra controller prices. Moreso, they (probably intentionally) had the price comparison between the low PS3 and the low 360, but added on the cost of all of the upgrades for the 360 that come with premium! If they were going to compare with a fully upgraded Xbox 360, than they should have used a fully upgraded PS3.
- interiot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Yeah, the "apples to apples" thing is somewhat obvious, though the wording that Sony used, "Requires Users To Buy:", is wrong. "Requires users to buy to have the same functionality" is clearly what they meant, but that's not what they said.
- imjustsayin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9First off, It's corporate market-speak. You can't expect it to be honest.
Second, they should have used the Premium since that option is most analogous, but that of course would drop the price by $50 so why would you do that.
Third, you would have to add the price of a remote to the PS3 side. (HD-DVD drive comes with one.) You would also have to add the cost of an hd cable of some sort. PS3 doesn't come with either of these. Maybe, to be completely fair, I should also include $200 for a Media Center Extender (since the PS3 isn't). Go ahead tell me that isn't a feature you care about and therefore you can't count the cost. I dare ya! LOL.
The thing that people who trot out this argument are neglecting to see is that nobody who buys the Core is concerned about HD movies or Live. They just want to play games. For that the Core and a memory card are probably sufficient. Not what I would choose, but for "Madden Gamers" this would be sufficient. The HD-DVD drive is not required. You have the option. If you don't care about an HD movie format (and most do not) then you save money on 360 by not paying for an option you don't want. I expect Sony to spout this stuff because they are a corporation and corporations lie. It just amuses me that so many cannot see through it. - DeepFreezed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8360+HDDVD+House+Boat+car = 1 million
OMG 360 is the more expensive - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Anyone notice Prince2k3 is too clueless to reply, use paragraph breaks or decent english (You're *) ? I did.
How where my comments immature ? Everything basically disproved your rubbish otherwise there where some smaterrings of me displaying how I was amazed how clueless/dumb you are.
Like I said the quality difference between Component and HDMI is so small that barely anyone would notice. So no, they don't 'suck' compared to HDMI.
Lied about what exclusive title ?
Microsoft has said that their component cables will support 1080P NATIVE for games while movies will require HDMI/VGA with the HD-DVD add-on. You're wrong, yet again.
Please, for the love of all that is precious read my posts ! I made a comment about the size of HD videos which would require move space than a single image/texture so you claiming that it takes 500MB-1GB for a "HD Picture" is absolute rubbish and even if did the 360 and PS3 don't have the power to actively use textures that large in a videogame.
On the internet there is a universal way to tell if someone is desperate in a debate or desperate to somehow validate their statements, that being by claiming they're some amazing guru in x area.
If Nintendo/MS said nothing the PS3 wouldn't have a decent online service, controllers with [limited] motion sensing, etc.
In the first paragraph it says this: ".. (if you purchase the Core system you will need an additional memory unit or hard drive) .."
So, Microsoft DOES/DID say you need a memory card or hard drive.
So yes, you are a moron, thanks for agreeing, moron. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Yea i like how they say that too, last i remember, xbox silver membership was free. Also, they dont say how each game you buy for PS3 will charge their own fee to play, so... who is going to be paying 10 for this game a month, 15 for that game... 50 for a entire year seems a bit cheaper then individual pricing.
Sony still sux, and ive hated them since they killed Bleem! - KiriA500, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I just noticed something!
On the chart near the bottom, with all the compared information. Note the Wireless Communications column. The PlayStation 3 $599 bundle had 802.11b. Wasn't that the slower of the 802.11 wireless signals? Now, look at the "OMG EXPENSIVE" Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter. It supports 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g.
So, you're paying $100 for a wireless adapter that supports ALL wireless signals, while you're forced to get a single signal on the PlayStation 3 (Only the $599 model. You cannot upgrade this feature with the $499 model). For me, as a consumer, it's more appealing to have the option of having wireless, as well as the option of which signal I want to use.
Sony, just let us upgrade your system on our own... I don't want a built-in WiFi adapter, since my PS3 will more than likely go less than 3 feet from my router. - reticulate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7HDMI =/= HD.
Edited to contain wrath. - mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Beast, it's Base system VS Base system. Why would they compare Premium Xbox 260 to Base PS3?"
Because the 360 PREMIUM system is still cheaper than the PS3 Base ($399 v. $499)? Plus, even if you want to argue that you NEED a HDD for certain games (which is true, I suppose - although I think that a standard sized memory card for the 360 is supposed to be enough for any single game), you can't really argue that you are REQUIRED to buy a wireless controller. Or the HDDDVD drive. Yes, you need to get these things to make the Core system "equal" to the PS3 Base system, but you don't need them to enjoy next gen gaming. It's just a crappy justification of why they want $500+ for their next super console.
What makes me laugh is, aside from the slight lie about online access for the Wii (well, not that slight) they are kinda setting up the Wii to look like it's a great buy - assuming you don't want an HD movie player. No add-ons to buy, bundled wireless controller, free online play, all for HALF what the cheapest PS3 costs. I know what looks better, on that page, to me. - Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14"i don't know about the rest of you but this story makes alot of sense.
if you'd get your fanboy heads out of the clouds and actually see what it says, the comparison is stating that with the same capabilities, i.e. 20gig hd for both, hi-def drive, online support, and wireless controller, then the PS3 would be a better investment....
im not saying that i love one side more than the other. its just the facts. "
It doesnt make sense in terms of making the games any better or worse....the bigger HD, wireless controller, and BR storage will do NOTHING for games. But they dont seem to mention that do they? - Zidane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Sure they may be required to match the capacity of the discs but seriously atm HD is not mainstream and is not needed, hence why most people will either buy a wii or a 360. i know for sure that i cannot afford AU$999 for a damn console when i can get both the wii and 360 for the same price
- deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7They're referring to the Wii's web browser, which is free for six months and if you buy it before then it's a one time fee. No news on what it will cost if you don't pay the one time fee after the 6 month period.
- fraggle35, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I can smell sonys desperation from here.
- emorphien, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Good going sony. As if you needed to dig that hole any deeper.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9there are way too many ***** apples in the comment section already. NO MORE APPLES
- eShinn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@KingMoses.
Yeah, we'll be lining up outside knocking on your door with a platter of cookies in hand negotiating the terms to be your best friend. ;.) - bmonet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Sorry whereami. I didn't mean to make the great titles comment an objective statement.
I just don't think the cost is worth the entertainment it will provide (to me). When I feel it does, I will probably buy one (for me). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Yea, and I also like how you can buy a premium 360 package and have a controller and HD. As for the HD-DVD drive, most people won't get it since less than what? 50% of the people in the US don't have and HD TV. Live is a must though, it's a good service, great value, I can't complain about paying $50 a year.
- frogpelt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Isn't Sony planning on charging incrementallyfor certain games? That alone would make it tons more expensive (even though most of those games will probably be proprietary like Gran Turismo)
- priceless721, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9nintendo needs to one of these on the psp just to be a jerk to sony and make some gigantic list that looks like this.
nintendo ds lite - 129.99 dollars
sony psp - 249.99
4gb memory card - 149.99
warranty(for screen) - 29.99
replacement analog sticks - 7.99
extra battery - 39.99
extra battery charger ac - 19.99
extra battery charger dc - 19.99
screen protectors(2 pack) - 9.99
extra carry case(soft) - 9.99
extra carry case (hard) - 24.99
Extra headphones - 19.99
extra headset - 24.99
psp media manager - 29.99
extra faceplates(comes in black, white is req'd to play some games) - 39.99
so total cost is $677.86 way more than a ds. 547.87 more to be exact. that means with your money your saving you could buy 4 friends a ds lite too and a copy of say tetris ds and you could all play off that one cartridge on ds download single-card play wow so now you see why the ds is so much better. - Dominatus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8HDMI
