- walkerwayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why isn't Sony being more aggressive with the Media capabilities of the PSP? It has a lot more potential in terms of video and audio than the new ipod, but they need to produce a way to easily get video's onto a memory stick, and improve memory stick capacity... Is the PSP destined to go the way of the MD Player?

- Korean keyboard input - tifosiv122, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You guys are acting like 2.5 will never be cracked...common, thats what everyone said about 1.5 and you guys were whining that Japan's PSP were cracked but not US PSPs. Geeze. Give it a few weeks, they will figure out a way. Until then, I've got TV on my PSP with the ability to control my DVR and DVD player. Yeah, that's just a bit better then homebrew.
- Nick_Circosta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone HAS to write a home server for Location Free Player.. just a simple app that eum's the Location Free server on a PC ... it cant be that hard :)
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You fanboys need to stop bitching about homebrew (aka ability to play pirated games) on the PSP. You need to face it: the system was never meant for homebrew. It's a poor man's attempt at homebrew vs. the Gamepark32. If you want a real homebrew capable handheld. get the Gamepark32 or wait a month for the GP2X.
The PSP was never meant for homebrew and Sony has way more resources than the hackers to keep it that way. It was meant to play Sony's expensive DRM content.
I love how these Sony fanboys complain when Sony does something regarding content that they don't like. These idiots do not understand that Sony is the head member of both the RIAA and the MPAA. - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1kind of redefines "Location Free" with a required base station, doesn't it?
- Vill4no, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no thanks, its been nothing but good times ever since I downgraded and added emulators and homebrew
- gamer31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Location free allows you to watch your TV feed whenever you are in the world if you are in a Wi-Fi enabled area.
- ap3xlabs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1boooo on 2.50... until their firmware can summon unicorns and run on dream-power, i'm not gonna update.
thank god for that korean input though, we've been hurting for it for sure... (wtf?!) - Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0locationfree player is a good idea if we never had to buy a base for it.
I wish you can just set up your computer to stream to your PSP when your at a hotspot or something. - Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ RyGiL
Isn't this the first console to have firmware updates? I know I've never updated the firmware on my Gamecube... - SalMoriarty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so, what, exactly, is a "LocationFree" player?
- Tobind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got all excited and then found out the base station is $350 bucks :'(
- Illuminatus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"I like the whole portable TV idea, but who's going to spend over $1000 on the locationfree TV system just to watch TV on their psp?"
rich koreans? - philomatic, on 02/08/2009, -0/+0Why is Sony so actively discouraging homebrew apps? The ability to run these is a HUGE selling point. I doubt they would be legally liable for people running emulators, and there are legitmate homebrew apps that would definately be cool/useful to have on my PSP.
- 1337geek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0still waiting for some new 2.0 homebrew. not updating at the moment for sure, because this would incur the update which disables the ability to go back a version for quite some time, dont expect any new de-firmers to show up any time soon.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1^^^ if you want to see the full change log go here:
http://blog.skattertech.com/2005/10/psp-firmware-v250-released.html
Also DO NOT UPDATE! - agentbristow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So now that there is a way to play copyrighted files on the PSP, does that mean tivo compatibility?? Cause watching alias on my psp would rock
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They don't want you to play pirated PSP games, that's the ONLY reason why they don't want you to run 1.50 firmware anymore. Homebrew isn't the real issue, other than the homebrew that allows you to use pirated games.
And there's also the problem of homebrew possibly bricking your PSP if you downloaded something malicious. Like that ***** 2.0 downgrader. Now those jerks will probably use the same trojan and call it a 2.50 downgrader.
Anyway, I'm not updating. Even if GTA: LCS requires it, I will find ways to avoid updating my firmware. However it may only need 2.0 firmware anyway.. which I might update too if need be, and downgrade later.
Remember kids.. KEEP your 2.0 and 1.50 firmware files handy! - LiquidRain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't forget, Sony's going to start enforcing firmware upgrades in their actual games. So if you want to play the latest games on your PSP, prepare to upgrade and lose your homebrew!
- 1337geek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0play mario and shave at the same time, now thats a cool idea.
- ateoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thank you ap3xlabs, that may have been the strangest thing I've read all day. Awesome!
- RyGiL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, these things seem to come almost biweekly now! What's next? Firmware updates for my electric razor? Soon we'll all have to spend an hour after we come home from work every day just updating our consoles, PSPs, MP3 players, PCs, etc. I know technology upgrades are a good thing and all but in 10 years, it's going to get annoying having to download bug fixes for my toaster and refrigerator.
Ahh... the good ole NES... never once had to install a firmware update and it still works fine! - Robstah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Elranzer,
Last time I checked, emulators are not pirated games. I also enjoy the PSPRadio in which it connects to WIFI and I can listen to internet radio stations. I love 1.50 and will stay with it until some drastic changes occur. I would let go of homebrew if they gave me a harddrive upgrade easily though. - Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Finally...WPA PSK support!
- Arcotik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I won't upgrade until support for things like .mpg, .avi, .h234(or whatever).
- jer.williams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"They don't want you to play pirated PSP games, that's the ONLY reason why they don't want you to run 1.50 firmware anymore."
I think the potential for playing full framerate 480x272 video is also a concern for Sony. Once the PSP Media Player gets its issues sorted, or some other media player comes along and pulls it off, Sony will be in trouble. Why would you buy a UMD when you can rip a DVD you probably already own? - fiberspy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll trade in my homebrew apps for flash support in the browser.
- xnylived, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll update because there's crap for homebrew on 2.0 at the moment and I enjoy internet on the go. The minor additions to this update intrigue me enough to update. One day though Sony wont have any more cool options to add in and the hacking community will catch up to Sony and no one will update ever again.
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing really exciting except for maybe the saved input text. I'll wait.
- nerdbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TFA
"This software update may include security patches and new or revised settings and features. We recommend that you check this page from time to time for future software updates and other PSP™ product information."
LOL - Kirin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They already require upgraded firmware to play certain games. But it's extremely easy to bypass too :P
- spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think we'll be at firmware version 12.5 by this next summer. i'm not getting 2.5, in fact, i might even downgrade from 2.0 to 1.5.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I liked Firmware 2.0 so the day they released the new firmware I was excited and decided to upgrade.
Now with that said, this has to be the worst firmware "update" yet. The only REAL noticable thing is the locationfree player.
But they really are not targettinbg key demographic wityh this, I wonder how many people actually plan on EVER buying one.
Worst Idea ever, I miss 2.0, I really felt like I gained nothing when I made this update.
Gimme 3.0 with an independant text reader, then I'll marry my PSP. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nifty, eapecially since I don't care about emulators.
- Xx_Venom_xX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Should I Update.....I wanna play some kick ass mario and old mgs games lol
- mag1c1an, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"People who are so cheap to download pirated games are all deserved to make their PSP bricks."
For all of you worried that your PSPs will turn into bricks, scan your files before putting them on the psp

Simple! Plus it has the added effect of really pissing of people like " ida-linux" who posted above :-)
2.5 will be cracked...sooner or later, sony will want you to upgrade the firmware again...again it will be cracked and so on... patience.
As for all you whiners saying we deserve it if we patch/mod etc our consoles....arnt you forgetting we PAID FOR THE DAMN THINGS??? ITS OURS, WE OWN IT MOFO.
Cheers!
P.S - Digg this post high to show your appreciation if this helped ya! - RandomChu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The hype of 2.5 is a bit ... silly. What PSP owner is going to buy a $350 base station to even USE the new features? Didn't they shell out $250 just for the system? Only the people with tons of money to waste should invest in this right now.
On the other hand, LocationFree sounds like a cool idea. I'd love to give it a try, but for $350, I could do a bit better. - mmerovitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I like the whole portable TV idea, but who's going to spend over $1000 on the locationfree TV system just to watch TV on their psp?
- xzen54321, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Boo PSP, GO GP2X!
Link:http://www.gbax.com/ - acemilo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+01.5 here and couldn't be happier :).
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Also.. why the ***** do we need Korean language keyboard support for PSP-1001 units which are specifically for the North American region? It says right on the website it's only for PSP-1001. PSP-1000 is for East Asia, and PSP-1002 is European.
I ***** HATE the PSP keyboard, far too much like a ***** CELL phone, give me a REAL QWERTY keyboard Sony! A lot of the homebrew stuff has good keyboards. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0People who are so cheap to download pirated games are all deserved to make their PSP bricks.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0too bad version 2.5 suck butt!!!! There are so many things that sony doesnt tell you when you download this. Like completey almost forget aboutsomeof those homebrewed apps for it.
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"I would let go of homebrew if they gave me a harddrive upgrade easily though."
i think i read they're going to be releasing a replacement battery that is a combo harddrive as well, so no additional parts would be necessary. just fits right in where the battery already goes. should be sweet. prolly like 4gb or something.
