- Norweed, on 10/12/2007, -8/+58In other news. Elvis is dead, the US landed on the moon, and Scott Norwood missed some important kick.

- primehifi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+37Old News: Knew this on the 19th of November.
- mikesherov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31also, it's not about cost, it's about numbers of units... developers want to develop for consoles with more units, because then they sell more copies!
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -15/+39Yet they cost pretty much the same.
197,000 $600 PS3s: $118,200,000
476,000 $250 Wiis: $119,000,000 - mcvetyty, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29Is this even news? I am pretty sure even Sony knew that the Wii was going to kick their ass.
- boycottsony123, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Slim chance of that...
- JaybeasCorpus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26That'd be true if all the PS3s sold were the $600 super special premium editions.
Besides, all PS3s are being sold at a loss, while Nintendo actually makes money on each of its systems. - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -13/+31the DS clealry ruined the PSP several times over.
the DS is to PSP as the Wii is to PS3. 'Nuff said. - RckmRobot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I think considering that the Wii was only available for 12 days out of the whole month and STILL came within 50,000 units of the 360 is pretty amazing.
- ZepFloyd, on 10/12/2007, -10/+27shouldn't that be OBLIGATORY Sony sucks/is failing comment
- reknaps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@millbrooky
You left out one small symbol
197,000 $600 PS3s @ -$200: -$39,400,000 (in the red!)
476,000 $250 Wiis @ $50: $23,800,000 (in the black) - Boulevard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17What's interesting is that the XBox360 beat them both for November:
From the article:
"The PlayStation 3, introduced in the U.S. on Nov. 17, sold 197,000 units, falling short of Sony's 400,000 goal. The Wii ... sold 476,000 units..[SNIP]..Microsoft sold 511,000 units of its Xbox 360" - toasty168, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15lol, ps2 is ps3's biggest competition. sony eats it's own ass.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I don't know why people digg this guy down. I think it's interesting to hear what's going on locally and it adds to the discussion. All this while while the whiny complaints about the story being posted get modded up.
- Ace25, on 10/12/2007, -13/+23I don't know about this story.. I have been looking for a Wii daily since launch to no avail.. even got the UPS/FedEx shipping schedules down for all my electronic stores in the area.. and I have yet to see 1 Wii anywhere...
Meanwhile... every other day I see a stack of PS3 consoles at Best Buy.. they sell out quickly.. but I have had so many chances to pick up a PS3 this whole "Nintendo selling/shipping way more consoles than Sony" just doesn't seem true in my area of California. Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, Gamestop, etc has not got a Wii shipment since the first week of release, and only 2 shipments total.. meanwhile they have all received multiple (5-6) shipments of PS3's. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13the PS2 has a huge library of AAA titles, and several of which just came out this year. The new systems have a bunch of mediocre launch titles (except Zelda). Frankly, I'd be surprised of the PS2 didn't outsell the next-gen.
Didn't FF9 have the same effect with the PSX vs the PS2 at launch? - JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I kept missing shipments from FedEx and UPS at the stores here. Each shipment delivered 3-5 consoles to the little stores and 10+ to the big stores. Many of the big stores hold onto their shipments until Sunday and then sell a large number on that day (like the Target where I got mine. It had 42 units on opening 12/3, but the line for them started at 6PM on 12/2. I discovered the line at 2:00AM while driving around and waited in it at number 24 with a friend until the store opened. The insane part is that I NEVER camped for anything before that. I am on the east coast however so maybe it isn't the same in your area. YMMV.)
Keep hunting, as more people get the console competition should let up a little. They are definitely shipping them, though. - RedZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11@JDoggqx: I'd like to think you're right, but I fear that the Wii will only get harder to find in the next few weeks. Their scarcity is undoubtedly bringing more greedy Ebayers out of the woodwork hoping to score some quick cash with some last minute "Buy Now" deals for desperate parents. I don't foresee the average person being able to walk into a store and buy a Wii until February or so.
@pkulak: What do you mean you don't understand why people are digging him down? He said something other than "OMG TEH PS3 IS TEH SUXXORS!!!ONEONEELEVE!!" Anything short of that gets you dugg down promptly by the Wii fanboys. - Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"Sony though, they are still supporting the PS2 huge. Xbox customers have been dumped by Microsoft and same with Gamecube by Nintendo."
Gamecube games work on the Wii - Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11lets use smaller numbers
Wii sells 20
PS3 sells 5
developers (they make games) think "ok if we make a game, only 50% of the people will buy it, judging from the past. So should we make it for Wii and sell 10 of our games or make it for PS3 and sell 2.5 of our games? - ZepFloyd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10granted the 360 has the highest numbers, but it has also been the easiest to get your hands on the 360 of the three consoles.
- RPharazon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Wow. I knew the PS3 was failing, but not at this massive rate.
The Wii is shipping 250k units (The amount of PS3s on launch day) every week, and even then, the supply gets sold out like free money.
If the DS was a license to print money, then the Wii is going to be the one that actually prints the money. - drewtown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9two words: Guitar Hero
I guess that is not all of it, but I had friends buying ps2's this year just so they could play GH and GH2 - ulyssesyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Nintendo has a *****? is that backwards compatible?
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9have you seen the size of the heat sync? i dont think a slim version is comming soon
- SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It always takes a while for the "next gen" to beat the "last gen". Actually, now is the best time to get any of the three older consoles: they are simply cheap and have huge libraries of games. You can look at those libraries and buy one based on what it has. For some people, this makes more sense than spending 5 times more on a console, using "what it will possibly have" to base your choice.
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9How does selling out of every shipment equal a failure?
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Well, if there's one thing that's really saving Sony right now, it's the slim PS2.
Wonder when they'll release a slim PS3...? - ulyssesyt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9i'm confused by all the "win/lose" posts about Playstation and Wii. companies sell game consoles--some sell more, some sell less.
you don't have to sell the most to be succesful--you just need to make a profit.
so--what's the big ***** deal about which game company sells more product? this is such vacuous, hype-filled *****. - FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Everyone knows they make most of the profit off software not hardware.
More systems = More software customers = More profit - shiftdelete, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12It makes the front page because this isn't some fanboy's blog opinion. This is from a major news source- bloomberg. Now the economic masses will realize that Nintendo is the one to watch, and despite all the efforts, Sony missed the mark and will have to play catch up. I do hope Sony gets their act together, since the PS3 has a lot of future potential.
-shiftdelete
PSwii60 - JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Make it for both and sell 12.5 games :)
(yeah, I know I'm a wise ass.) - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9uh, yeah, that's usually how it works.
- cybrjoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Lloyd: No Way! That's great... We've Landed On The Moon!
- JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@GliTCH82
I'll bite.
If the PS3 production output is hamstrung by the lack of blue ray diodes, perhaps Sony will have had extra time to make sure that each system was put together properly. I kinda doubt that myself, but it could happen. - Sell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Wii players"?????
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5the middle man would just grab the available console then sell it on ebay for $2400.
- SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Did you really expect them to sell more Wii/PS3s in ten days than Microsoft sold Xboxes in 30 days? Besides, the number of sales for those is (still) basically limited by manufacturing capabilities, while Microsoft got over that a long time ago. Those numbers aren't comparable at all.
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"You can pick up a used PS2 for around a hundred bucks. If PS3s were available, it would cost you around five or six hundred. Hm. Maybe not everyone can afford a 500 hundred dollar video game system."
Same saying goes for an xbox. Maybe not everyone can afford a $400 dollar system as well.
$300 to be fair but in this case the core xbox is missing things that provide a complete experience on the xbox where as the core ps3 isn't missing much. - drewtown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6And that constitutes and a success for Son how? Failing to meet demand is a failure in my book and they are going to pay for it in the long run if they can't pick up production, and fast, the 25th is approaching. ( I know not everybody celebrates Christmas but that when they want it :) )

I don't feel I need to explain how ***** stupid your logic is. - foundationiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And PS2 is STILL beating them all...
THAT is pretty incredible. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6dude what are you talking about, Wii has full backwards compatibility with Gamecube, and 360 supports most of the more popular xbox title. If anything, wii customers should be grabbing at old GC games.
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't know why people are hitting the thumbs down but I can just offer my opinions on why selling out was a good thing. Actually I have only one. The PS2. Remember the PS2 shortages? Again early adopters were on the system but I for one will attest to the fact that the DC still had better games than what ever the PS2 had for the first half a year of its release. After they had amped up production, the had games available that garnered the interest of gamers. The same thing might happen here. I am only interested in PS3 titles that come out in march. If I cant get one by then chances are there are going to be more games announce that might catch my interest. There are still alot of unannounced projects for all three consoles. Calling Sony a failure for what has worked for them in the past is just a POV. One that I do not share.
- Mrstupid7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I bought a 3DO for its potential.
