Actually if you want to get really technical about the first to include downloadable games then you can say that Sega had games which you could download from cable on the Genesis called the Sega Channel (I personally begged my parents for a subscription for the Sega Channel and all I did was download and play shining force and zombies ate my neighbors).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Channel
You can even say that the Satellaview add-on to the SNES was also a way to download games, though it was only available in japan, you could get a bunch of BS games like BS Zelda, BS ExciteBike (BS == Broadcast Satellite).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellaview
Even before that you could trace AOL's roots to the Gameline, which was a cartridge for the Atari 2600 that lets you download games from a phone line.

so there everyone copied Atari - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"played a PS1 game yesterday. It was terrible :/"
don;t ruin the surprise of which one it is,
because you know, their all the same.
What a Moron, I just picked up XenoGears again this week and it's teh shyt.
I miss when games had to be fun b/c they didn't always look pretty.
You sir, are a Gummi Gamer,
GO back to your sports games and Halo.
That's all you mainstreamers can appreciate. - NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17DS has downloadable PS1 games?
- swany1012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Pacman doesnt have great graphics, yet its really fun.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15"Sony Fanboy vs. Nintendo Fanboy...this will never end"
yeah, better that than a Microsoft Fanboy though, those are the worst. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7playing MGS, Armored Core, Battle Arena Toshiden, Soviet Strike, THPS 2, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Crash Team Racing, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil 1-3, Final Fantasy VII, Gran Turismo, Jet Moto, F'N PARAPPA THE RAPPER!, Street Fighter franchise, Tekken, Syphon Filter, WWF Attitude...
all those games kept me up night and weekends...now having those on a PSP...
lol > all - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Sony had the idea for the ps1 emulator a LONG time ago. They copied it from the hundreds of home-brew emulators that were already made for it, not nintendo.
- Kajico, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Old news but just a good reminder that this is coming to PSP. Won't make it such a bad investment after all.
- kain45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6and back when ps1 was out people thought they had some mean cutting-edge technology going on there too but the games were also fun to play and thats why companies like konami and squaresoft are also as big as they are now too.
- swany1012, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Sony Fanboy vs. Nintendo Fanboy...this will never end
- Hiker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Haha EasY TargeT... I THINK you might want to do a bit of research on what "copyright" actually IS cos I'll bet my left testicle you sure as hell DO NOT own the copyright to any of the games you have LICENSES for.... (hint: fire up one of your games and see whose name is next to the copyright symbol.. I bet it's not yours)
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11You do know Sony had downloadable games on PS2 (before Nintendo) right?
You do know MS had downloadable games on XBOX (before Nintendo) right? - sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its not like Nintendo was the first to think of it, lets see who will release it to the Public First.
- ZergyPoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"who gives a ***** about graphics?"
A lot of people do. I care about graphics. However, if it comes down to it, gameplay is more important than graphics.
But good graphics can make the experience of a game much better. Don't underestimate the importance of graphics.
Sure pac-man is fun, but I wouldn't ever play it over any of my current PC games. - herogear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it's a shame all the PS1 games I wanna play, I already own. And that the PSP emus will be tweaked for the PSP's changed control scheme. For anyone who thought Mario 64 was annoying on DS, I'll bet it's just as frustrating to play some of the Dual Shock PS1 games on PSP.
But truth of the matter is, I'm still playing portables for the games made on them. Meaning PS2 ports and N64 ports are ousted, so PS1 ports won't be enticing either. Just let me keep Loco Roco, Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins, and Tetris DS and I'll be happy. - eastbeast314, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Sorry for liking my FUN games with good graphics. I'll take gameplay over graphics every time, but that doesn't mean that good graphics = bad gameplay. You can have both!
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I can't help but notice that the store kiosks are no where near the same thing as downloadable games from the internet that you get to keep."
Well you can download them from the internet, but you need a specific type of router. And Nintendo said you could download them through the wii also. - Napalmtrees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I saw the title of this and could smell the fanboy war within. Goodness.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You can download Pictures, Movies, and Game Demos for the PSP all on the main PSP site. DS is beat in that aspect. Please actually know what the ***** you are talking about next time.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3FF 7 and twisted metal 2 are the only ones I can think of that I'd be excited about.
- SkullWolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy crap, we've known this since last spring, at least. Way to necro.
- pjsk8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3.....What does that have to do with anything? Seriously.
We're talking about downloading games, not UMD. - TheWiredNerv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd just buy one game: Final Fantasy Tactics.
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Games on a memory stick will probably load faster than on UMDs.
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What I'm most worried about, is if I'll have to pay for the ones I already own...:(
PS1 emulation was a factor, but I still haven't bought a PSP...
I'll buy it alongside PS3 I guess.....next year...
I hope everyone does the same....do NOT pay the launch price! - davidv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Just an FYI
From a recent IGN article:
http://psp.ign.com/articles/730/730124p1.html
But you may not need a PS3 in order to download PS1 content to your PSP. Asked what means you'll have to download content, Kawanishi said, "There will be three: through the PS3, through the PC, or direct download to the PSP via wireless LAN. Our fundamental stance is to use an open network, so PC-based downloads will be possible. And not only that, but we believe things like download through cell phones are also a possibility. We don't plan on placing limits on the network."
Kawanishi also suggested that Sony might allow gamers to play PS1 games through emulation on the PC and, in the future, on a cell phone. - kain45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sony owes me after all those rares games that I could never find or cost way too much or was never released in our country. I mean I was basically forced to download them illegally, so I can save whenever I wanted in the emulator or pause whenever i felt like it so I can catch 4 hours sleep just to wake up and come back again. I mean I really didn't want to, but they forced me....I swear.
- doug_brit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can you believe Acclaim made WWF Attitude?
I'm glad to see someone put it on there top ps1 games, I must have wasted hundreds of hours just on its character creation mode. - nik7702, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Download Unlimited PSP Games, Movies, Music Here

http://hitdj.com/psp-download.htm - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Why would you want to download slow loading games, meant to be played for hours on your couch with a big tv, on your small, portable device? I don't get it. I mean, there were a lot of quality Playstation games but I'll play them on my Playstation 2, thanks.
- koktakee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gxc, agree with you 1000%. Sign me up for some Project Overkill, too...
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2So UMD didn't fail in Japan? Gee I wonder why.. could it be the ever lasting supply of Japanese adult video games for UMD?

Japan has smaller average houses, etc, PSP could come in very handy. - Goosey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am going to be very interested to see how far this strategy of mimicking it's competitors moves will take Sony. It is pretty interesting to see how the mighty industry leader seems to be focused on replicating any good idea from the other camps: The motion sensing controller, this classics download service, the x-box live experience.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I suppose. And why have the original when the new shiny Sony version does it at half the competence and for twice the price! - nik7702, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0

http://hitdj.com/psp-download.htm - bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5PSP is a nice system. Unfortunately, the games do suck, at least for someone with a PS2 who has all of the games big brothers. If I want classic games, I'll get some sort of DS emulator and a DS. At least that system has good games.
- IdanE, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Actually, AFAIK Nintendo was the first to let you play retro games (in animal crossing) via emulators. They've also released "hardware" emulators for at least 2 consoles (Super gameboy and gameboy player). But they never offered it via downloads - Wii is the 1st Nintendo console with that feature, so making downloadable PS1 games is not really copying Nintendo. As for MS - they let you play old games, but not exactly in emulated form - you're playing versions modified for XBox live (obvious since the games have "achievements" that had to be coded in). If they get this out in time, they may very well be the 1st to offer legal ROM downloads (I think), even if Nintendo said it 1st, and that's life. See how MS announced it's new search feature for vista and within a year apple released their new "spotlight" feature. MS announced it 1st but apple was 1st to market
- EasY_TargeT, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4hmmm, I guess ill take these emulators off my psp ad start to pay for games I already own the copyright of.

;) - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3ha, I am seling mine to a fellow wii60 member for $130.its nice, I am turing a shiny brick into games for my wii w00t. I just never played taht thing, maybe the PS1 emulator will give it a decent game library, with amazing games like ridge racer... RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAAAAAAAAAACER!
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5"yet a Sony service that isnt even out yet is better?"
Where did I say that? - sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Its called an "update"
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4I can't help but notice that the store kiosks are no where near the same thing as downloadable games from the internet that you get to keep.
Not only that, but the sateliteview, also did not let you keep games. And, they were only playable at certain times. - fohf, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3if this works pretty well I might just get a PSP. but then again... I probably still won't
- BLueSS, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8IT'S RIDDGGGEEEEE RAAACCCCEERRR!
