- retral, on 10/12/2007, -11/+27Oh, so people _did_ stop at the Sony E3 booth after all..
- satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17The article gives no detail, but interesting to know it's coming.
- BlackSheepx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Makes me think of an updated "gameboy camera."
- DVRDude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'd rather have an official slim, integrated flip keyboard accessory...
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yeah I hate typing URLs using that stupid interface they have there..
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I can't think of a single use for this thing. If I want to take pictures/video I'd just use my digital camera. Isn't the PSP supposed to be a gaming system?
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Looks pretty cool, but I'm not sure I would use it. Like someone else said...I'd prefer a flip style keyboard.
- Fafhrd68, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9The steps Sony is taking really point out to turning the PSP into some kind of vidphone. I'm not a big web camera type of guy, but this really makes for a powerful tool. I really think that if Sony takes this turn to make is a phone/GPS/Text messenger will win over more people. I currently use it to pull RSS of shows like Diggnation, Command N, Open Alpha and many more.
- mdmetzle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6well there is afkim, for fw1.5
http://dl.qj.net/AFKIM-v2-PSP-1.5-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/6439/catid/140 - clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Download the demo for Loco-Roco. The good games are finally coming.
- brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11OMG they put a camera on it!!! I mean WOW. Who would ever have thought to make a camera for it!?!?! That's just CRAZY.
/sarcasm
The original nintendo gameboy had a camera. Most cell phones have a camera. PDAs have cameras. Putting a camera on things has become about as creative as putting food on a stick. - mrfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3oh yeah... remember how much a camera made our cell phones better. I mean I used that all the time. Oh money grab marketing... you are destroying the industry that sustained my youth. Shame.
- tciny, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Owning a PSP and a DS I can tell you that theres very good games on both platforms. I'd recommend you go check out Daxter. Not only is the gameplay good fun but the graphics are awesome... oh yeah, and load times are approximately the same as on the DS, although it runs from the UMD... dont ask me how they pulled it off, but its very impressive.
I think you'll see a lot more good games in the next months for PSP - satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just rum our at this point, but I'm hearing this may be used for a video phone addition. Personally it would be the only thing I would buy this for, and it actually make a lot of sense. You could be completely mobile with a video phone. I know of no other solution that would provide the same ability. I stress the word rumor, I've read nothing that substantiates this.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why the hell would anyone play eyetoy games on a PSP? How would that even work?
Sony needs to concentrate on making GAMES for the PSP instead of adding more useless features. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it really necessary to compare every device to another one? I could understand if Sony claimed this was the first gaming device to have a camera, but I don't think they did....or did I miss that announcement in this link?
- TungFu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I am very happy about this, i actually dont use my PSP for games at all. i use it when traveling to listen to music, videos, movies, tv shows, a portable drive to transfer files, check my email, browse the internet, etc etc.
ok sometimes i play games but not that much really. - BBryan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4try this http://www.penguinprofile.com/aim/
they limit how many people can be on, gl. - sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8it looks awesome, but all i need now is AIM, MSN, or Yahoo client to be added as a feature into the the PSP. and once sony releases an official keyboard, the PSP will be one of the best portable communication devices!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ugh.... You can't stop dropping the f-bomb, but you think that the only good game on the PSP was Hot Shots Golf? God, you're annoying. You shouldn't be allowed outside of a 2 meter square rubber cube.
- itsallgeektome, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The article seems to mention games made for it. Think eye-toy.
Now, if that's a good idea or not is another debate. - Mystikal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Your right. Id love to carry around a 60gb HDD around in my pocket! Hell yes!
- Mystikal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Do you even know what they plan to do with it? Doesnt look like it. It will be a portable eye toy...and possibly have STREAMING video chats.
- jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Reminds me of the Game Boy Camera. Man, I had a lot of fun with that thing.
- ryanhumphreys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can see the the point of it for EyeToy purposes, it could be quite good fun. Although, I think the design could do with another look at. Take a leaf out of Apple's book.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know this story is down now, but I can't see what use an EyeToy will be on PSP. It works on PS2 because it can track your body parts, letting you control games with your arms. On the PSP it will see your face, that's it. How's that going to work?
- TungFu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4There already is a flip-keyboard. It doubles as a screen protector.
http://internet.ru/media/20/20050307-PSP%20keyboard.jpg
granted its made by a third-party and not "official" as you say, but it exists. Supposedly an "official" one is in the works. this picture was taken at E3 and it could be it.
http://www.hizone.info/data/2004/05/13/images/sony-psp-keyboard.jpg - voodooatl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A camera? How about better games, sure several have clawed their way to mediocrity but come on - Sony needs to build a "must have" as 3rd parties have not, or at least if they want to stop loosing 6:1 on the DS
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The ablility to play flash documents on your PSP will mean flash homebrews. This camera is just the beginning though. Communication will be so awesome with the PSP
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Sony has accessories for the PSP, but still to announce any good games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Wow, how innovative and original of them. It's almost like what the gameboy had EIGHT YEARS AGO. Jesus Sony, at least copy something recent. Oh wait...
- vegasbright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PSP = Portable
360 = NOT Portable - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hmmm....was the PSP around EIGHT YEARS AGO? I don't think so. Why fault them for adding functionality to the device? Or are they not supposed to release accessories just because the Gameboy has it?
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"it looks awesome, but all i need now is AIM, MSN, or Yahoo client to be added as a feature into the the PSP. and once sony releases an official keyboard, the PSP will be one of the best portable communication devices!"
Yes, because a good portable communication device wouldnt have something as silly as a built in keyboard....
Oh... wait...
It was inevitable that they designed a camera but who really cares. A smaller, dedicated camera, albeit with a much smaller screen, will give you much better photos. 3 MPixel cameras are dirt cheap these days anyways. - sert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Yeah, but Sony is doing their best so people don't get any homebrew in their consoles. It isn't a platform you can rely on, in this respect."
exactly, it wouldnt be such a no-brainer for the DS for me if they werent constantly crippling the PSP. at this point I dont want to run the risk of getting a crippled version. of course I know why they do it, but I still dont like it - Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@tciny -
The load times may be better than most, but man, your battery life... Whats's that like? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ hamstereater
are you ******ng crazy? a pc isn't portable... i dont know what you're smoking but lay off it.
what sort of pc do you have? does it fit in your pocket? - mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Ahh finally, a gaming machine used primarily for porn purposes...
- itsallgeektome, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Looks like an Eye Toy like add-on for the PSP. Not sure how that'll translate in portable form (seems like a small space to work with, but we'll just have to see). For other applications, I don't know how useful the PSP would be as a digital camera. The resolution isn't going to be that great (at least on the PSP screen) and it's not like every cell phone can't give you the same thing already.
- meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10Meh, Nintendo wins my money still. I'm totally buying a DS Lite when they come out. Will probably give my current DS to my stepdad for Father's Day.

psp portal
contains many great wifi activities - seibed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I second that. The one that supposedly exists (as mentioned by another poster) doesn't... the product was cancelled when sony wouldn't give them the software info they needed to make it work. The current interface may work for those who spend all day on their cell phones tapping away at text messaging, but I am (thankfully) not one of them.
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It was not cancelled for that reason. It was cancelled because the PSP is not programmed to accept keyboard input from the USB port, so Sony had no protocols/software to provide them. It's like plugging a keyboard into the GBC link cable port and expecting it to work with every game
- TungFu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ah my bad i didnt realize the keyboard by logic 3 was cancelled. on top of that i think the picture posted is from the E3 two years ago when psp was first announced but has not been seen since. i had some bad info there. sorry.
i find it difficult to understand why sony, who announced a keyboard attachment 2 years ago at the 2004 E3 (as well as the camera for that matter) has been dragging its feet for so long. - hamstereater, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i don't need multimedia on my DS because i already have a cellphone and a PC that do all of that :
- muyuu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Yeah, but Sony is doing their best so people don't get any homebrew in their consoles. It isn't a platform you can rely on, in this respect.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0its very interesting to see these many comments surrounding psp's new camera and how they stoke it off gameboy and how sony is crap, etc, etc. These sort of comments really sicken me, because if its not innovative, then why do every mobile phone have a camera! 'oh no samsung stole the camera idea off nokia' 'nokia stole the camera idea off motorola' its really stupid to think like that. 'Gameboy had a camera first, so psp tough luck!' Idiots! the idea of having a camera on a portable device is not new, so why are so many considering it as a 'gameboy' idea? wouldn't anyone prefer a camera on their iPod video, i know I would (if I had one) wouldn't anyone prefer a camera on their PORTABLE device? Everyone would! so why are so many people dissing sony just because they bought out a camera for a successful device. Why diss Sony?
.... god forbid they might try to take over the world....
And i read something like that they have too much stuff on the psp? WTF? since when has this been a bad thing?
'PSP has a video thingy, and music thingy, and a thing that allows you to look at your pictures that you took, and connect to the Internet and play games! they're so stupid! why put so many things on this?'
it's like saying that you don't want the functionality to watch videos/view images on a iPod. Crazy b@st@rds!
I have never played a DS, so i'm not sure if you can watch movies and listen to music and view your images, can you? - cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3useless camera. especially when people have so many other devices that do more. if sony wants to impress people they need to release two devices for this crap of a portable game system. 1. give us a hdd. not some cheap little 4 gig like the one available. 60+ gigs. And let us stream from that hdd not load crap on to the mem stick from it. 2. Games *****. I have over $500 invested in this damn thing and the only game that was worth a ***** was HSG open tee. I should have never got this damn thing. Oh yeah. A UMD burner would be nice if your not going to release a massive hdd. *****. PS3 better not suck as much as this thing and I better be able to connect them together. Dont know why but I better.
- satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5yes.... and that's why the PSP has better games on average than the DS and more games that the DS according to Gamespot. If you want to make negative comments you need to do it with something more than your personal opinion please.
- stringycheese, on 10/12/2007, -12/+11Agreed. This is just more proof that the PSP is trying to be a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none device as opposed to the DS which is about games.
All of the PSP owners can have fun taking pictures with their overpriced digital camera, I will be having fun playing GAMES on my DS. Honestly, how many people that can afford a $250 portable gaming device can't afford a decent digital camera? -
