- gamasutra, on 10/12/2007, -6/+36PlayStation 3 game console has problems when playing about 200 software games from previous versions of the machine.
200 out of 8000 is pretty damn good if you ask me. - baddog121390, on 10/12/2007, -6/+317800 games is a lot better than the ~200 xbox games the 360 supports
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -12/+24Seriously, this is just Wii or 360 fanboy's lame attempt to get at least 1 more cheap shot in before launch. which afterwards will be downplayed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Firmware updates will fix all
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17other than the problem with older games, what other problems are there? is the thing catching fire? are the blu-ray games scratched to hell already and wont play? does the PS3 network cost money now?
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow, not only does it barely mention the problem in the given article but I've seen this same story AT LEAST 5 times on the front page in the last few days.
Sad thing is I already knew there would be compatibility problems - Sony had already said that the PS3 would be backwards compatible with the few glitches that were present in the Silver Slimline PS2 coming with it (because they used the same chip).
Anti Sony types are really pushing the only thing that's come out negative about the hands-on tests of the PS3 so far. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+20Glitches in a first run electronic device? And it's one of Sony's? Who would have ever guessed?
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This is news so that the Wii fanboys have a place to point and laugh.
- wunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The BBC article, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6146328.stm, mentions that Gran Tourismo and Final Fantasy are among the games that are having problems. I think what matters is not what percentage of games are working, but whether or not the games that you want to play are working.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Not a big deal, that's not even 5% of their games. Plus it will all be fixed by firmware.
That's not to say they arent ***** up with marketing though. Rumor has it they cut their shipments down to 150,000 - 200,000 in the North America. - shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Why do we care? It's the friggin' PS3. It isn't going to work properly until 2008 at the soonest.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"I would guess 100k will go to both Mexico and Canada and 200k will go to the US."
Mexico gets 100k? Extremely unlikely. - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6True, but a lot of the problems are on more-popular games, such as Radiata Stories and Valkyrie Profile 2 -- both Square-Enix games.
But then again, the PS2 has minor problems emulating FF8, and it seems to have a lot of problems with any time the screen fades to black in any of the PS1 RPGs I've play, so what should I have expected? - Leo55, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I don't think it is a problem with PS3 at all.
Its problem with the dev of those ps1 and ps2.
They used little hardware loopholes to get their games working nicely. - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5CNN stated earlier one will be available on Friday.
- SineNomen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Let us not forget that the Xbox 360 was not originally backward compatible with a few good games too. Splnter Cell comes to mind.
But that's all fixed now, and most of the games are supported. - slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6They never said the US is receiving 400k units. They said North America would be receiving 400k, Which includes Mexico and Canada... I would guess 100k will go to both Mexico and Canada and 200k will go to the US.
- EztliNahua, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15200 KNOWN games. It's only been a few days. Also, Sony is known for backwards compatibility, with their consoles being able to play the previous versions. This one, suddenly, has problems. Not a good thing for their image.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"This one, suddenly, has problems"
PS2 also had backwards compatability issues with a few games and I am sure that people would have been on the internet trying to make a been deal about it as well.
INNACURATE. - mdnttoker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6And this is news why?
You have to expect a few fixable emulation glitches in a project this huge...IAEE (I'm an electrical engineer)
These 'news' items bashing either side are getting REAL annoying... - FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This is more like a PS1 & a PS2 woe, if it were a PS3 game having probs then it would be a PS3 woe. Besides I doubt the majority of all games will work. I hate it when people whine over like, 3 games.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"In true Sony form, officials were not available for comment."
Inaccurate. Up until about 10 days ago, you could always count on getting some Sony official for an inaccurate and stupid quote. What kind of revisionist history is this that saying that Sony is never available for comment is the true Sony form?
Sony FINALLY mostly shuts up and refrains from saying stupid crap and now people complain about that instead.
People will complain about anything. - SanFran216, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Tell that to the nostalgics who, while wanting to be in with the next gen, want to go back and play FFVII every now and then. Not a big issue, but it would be annoying to have to look through your attic for your old PS1 or 2.
- tendonut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is just an example of what happens when consoles try to be PCs. Endless updates to accomplish what would have been done from square one 10 years ago.
As for the above comment from Vhold, He said 100k between Mexico and Canada, not Mexico alone.
I am personally happy with the 2 million between US, Canada, and Mexico. (Thank you Nintendo gods) - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Although 7700 of those are absolutely abhorrent. Hopefully Sony will make some of the popular incompatible games work with future updates.
- littlesquall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not really a big deal.
- googzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The amount of anti-Sony FUD on digg is amusing... funny how its on the rise just as the console is beaing released.... and the wiitards are really hurting as a result.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I believe some time around E3, Peter Moore said that they won't be making any more xbox games compatible with the 360 because he thinks that real gamers don't care about backwards compatibility
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6152178.html
http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=12836&rp=49 - phase, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The 360 doesn't have an Intel chip and nvidia graphics chip on the motherboard to facilitate running original xbox games.
PS3 has the PS2 Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer right on the board..... - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's sad when CNN knows more about the PS3 than you do. CNN reported a fix is coming in an online update this weekend. Hell, I said as much this morning.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"As for the above comment from Vhold, He said 100k between Mexico and Canada, not Mexico alone. "
Well, he said:
"They never said the US is receiving 400k units. They said North America would be receiving 400k, Which includes Mexico and Canada... I would guess 100k will go to both Mexico and Canada and 200k will go to the US."
Soo.. if 200k go to the US.. and there's 400k.. And.. he says 100k will go to both Mexico and Canada.. Then either 100k go to each Mexico and Canada, or 100k units are lost in the pacific ocean, because 200 + 100 = 300. - Cory70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uhh....kinda is i would hate to be gettin ready to play then....FREEZE....nobody is goin to want to put up with that crap let alone 70-80 dollar games....and even the gamemakers have admitted every one that buys a ps3 is goin to have to buy 3-4 of the same game for the comp. to be making any $$$.
- Cory70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, i agree.....cant be said much better.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's selective knowledge. The blind Nintendo fanboys are running scared and looking for scare tactics.
- Cory70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't understand it either...iam a 360fan and i agree with the comment by PointandClick "I just want to know when they start catching on fire/exploding... I give it a week."
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4this is truly the first thread on digg that is full of ps3-ers. woo! i love it. even in an article about the ps3 bad feature...
- BarriedaleNick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Second time in two days that this ***** fud has reached the front page. Get over it.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So basically what this article says is that a very small number of PS1 and PS2 games work just as badly as Gears of War runs on the XBOX 360.
- termy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2backwards compatibility is very important now of days but I could of sworn I've seen this already digged like 3 or 4 times at this point.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Honestly, this is really the least of all evils for the PS3
Again, I don't think that many people are going to bring home their brand new $600 system, hook it up to an HDTV and say "Oh man, I hope this plays Final Fantasy 7!!"
As long as all the launch games work with the system, I don't think many people should complain - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Who cares, its still not enough to launch with!!
- tendonut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh i'm sure that is right around the corner. Sony doesn't know how to make quality products anymore. I think it is part of their business plan. It worked out really well with the PS2. Explaining how their sales numbers got so high. If the average person needs 2 systems in it's lifespan, it's BOUND to inflate the numbers
- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Again, I don't think that many people are going to bring home their brand new $600 system, hook it up to an HDTV and say "Oh man, I hope this plays Final Fantasy 7!!""
i know at least 4 people planning in buying a psp in the next year but ONLY if it will play final fantasy 7-10 without major glitches.
my sister actually bought a ps1 about 3 years ago, because her ps2 (non-slim ... one of the first europe shipments) had troubles emulating ff8 - ProudPS3Owner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0WOW! Who would buy a PS3 for 600$ and play Gran Turismo 2??? That's what a PS2 IS FOR!! They cost about 70 bucks on eBay...Cheap ass bastards go get a JOB before you go complain about this crap.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i can do most of those, plus massive multimedia stuff on my xbox already, and i only put 100 bucks into that things total, plus it came with an actual remote.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The 200+ games that don't work are the ones that we KNOW of. It's only been a couple days after its Japanese launch.
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -3/+297.5% of the 8,000 games are playable, that is so horrible!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Bull crap.
Less than half the games work. Less than 1/3rd of my collection works.
Rallisport Challenge 2... The best looking game of that generation of hardware? Not compatible. - PointAndClick, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I just want to know when they start catching on fire/exploding... I give it a week.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Hey look at the bright side
