- ForlornHope, on 10/12/2007, -9/+83You mean it has untapped grilling potential?? Get to work, homebrew community.
- Covenant9, on 10/12/2007, -5/+59Yes...the firmware upgrades will probably limit the PS3 to 80-90% performance due to future bugs they will find with the unproven Cell processor. :P
Seriously....new uses for the Sixaxis controller? I can think of a few uses...mostly involving Harrison's various orifices. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39Then why do I have to pay for 100% of the system?
- dualscreenman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39This just in! They'll use 50% of it to render 720p at a stable framerate!

- raindog469, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31I did have enough money for a PS3. That's why I bought two Wiis and gave one as a gift.

Wow, you are seriously dense. Yeah, everyone is ripping on the PS3 because they cant afford it. Thats like saying poor people hate mansions because they cant afford one. - J3yrad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21"Games should deal with fear, should deal with comedy and with death. They should deal with peril, with drug offenses."
I can see it now. The main character will be a paranoid, drug addicted murderer. - cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20But there are SO MANY missteps... and many of them not tiny at all.
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26Yeah he doesn't understand that when no one owns one, it's hard to use any % of it.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22Oh, but you'll missing out on MGS4!! I mean, there is no waaaaaay Konami will ever release that for any other platform a year down the road.
(rolling eyes) LOL - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17What a load of pseudo-technical *****. Every CPU is designed to sustain 100% utilization for prolonged periods of time. And what the ***** is "clogged memory"?
Senator Stephens? Is that you? - andreo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@ spidoman
"I assume we don't discuss how most reviews are saying that match making and the online experience in Resistence is better than Xbox Live?"
Huh! I have the PS3 and RFOM. I can tell you that the match making is a joke. You have a total of 4 choices. Ranked / UnRanked, FFA / Team.
Now if you end up in a match where someone has set only a certain type of weapon, single life, number if kills to win the game, etc. You will have to find that out once the game has started. I hate the single life games. But I don't have a choice to see if I'm joining one or not. And the team game where the host setup the game with only snipper rifles was... not... fun...
There are lots of times when the map is way to large for the number of people playing. Imagine running around for 5 minutes looking in every nook and cranny trying to find the last person on a last man standing type of match. Better yet, Imagine sitting around waiting for the last two people to find each other while your sitting, staring at your TV waiting for someone to kill someone else. Oh boy, I can hardly contain myself when that happens. To fun. - J3yrad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18This is digg. Where the ***** have you been?
- ZenKai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15640k should be enough for anyone.

"using 100% of the CPU might damage the system"
A CPU is a finite state machine. You are either executing an instruction, or you are not. There is actually no such thing as using less than 100% of the CPU. When you see a graph of a system using 50% of the CPU, that just means the system was executing an instruction 1 of every 2 times a sample was taken. - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Wow doesn't it make you want to develop for the PS3!
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15by deiphobus' rationale, everyone should praise every aspect of the Gameboy color, because even homeless guys can afford one of those...
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16For a lot of us it isn't about 'not having enough money' rather we have enough (Or more than enough) but just because we have money doesn't mean we're stupid.
I paid $650AU for a 360 and I feel stupid for paying that much, there's no way I'm going to fork out $1000 for a PS3 which offers me basically NOTHING.
No one said the 360/Wii are perfect but they're both damn good consoles where as the PS3 is a haphazard solution to it's competitors and falls short at basically everything. Someone coined a phrase 'PS3, jack of all trades. Master of none.'
There are some good things (Linux support and so on) but they're dwarfed by the amazing amount of bad things and by the stupidity of Sony. - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I cannot understand how the PRESIDENT would say something that stupid.
Yeah, OK, he's trying to say "what you see isn't always what you'll get" or something like that, but it CANNOT be good to say something along the lines of "we have this expensive product and nobody can maximise its capabilities".
The way I see it, SONY's President is telling me I'm paying for something that nobody can fully exploit... so why the f*ck should I buy it !?!?!? - gameface247, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11or as noted above, you could just do the obvious thing and save 100% of the cost
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Like Condemned, just reversed.
- milkmage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11@deiphobus (second comment) what the ***** are you trying to say?
"Yes. Your chronology makes perfect sense." in response to
"Wow, you are seriously dense. Yeah, everyone is ripping on the PS3 because they cant afford it. Thats like saying poor people hate mansions because they cant afford one."
Definitions of chronology on the Web:
an arrangement of events in time
a record of events in the order of their occurrence
the determination of the actual temporal sequence of past events - Eclipse19, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20Wait........Sony sucks because of Rootkit's and DRM and yada yada...........M$ sucks cuz it's M$........Everybody has problems. Though the Rootkit fiasco steered me away from Sony for a long time. But the reason I stuck with 360 and not PS3 is not cuz I didn't have the money. It's simply because of XBox Live. PS3 may can fire back, but M$ revolutionized the online gaming market.
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Titles wrong.
It should read:
100% Will not use the PS3
not
PS3 will not be used to 100% - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8if this was true (which it isn't), then why do we have to shell out so much damn money for it? If you really can't use its full potential, then why include so many useless expensive cores?
screw you sony. microsoft and nintendo are owning this generation. - frankzotynia10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8nextgenwars.com
ps3- 480,352
wii- 1,815,410
not that big of a difference - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@spidoman: Could you please provide some links (from fairly well-known sources, preferably unbiased towards any major company) to said reviews that claim joining a match is easier than Resistance than any XBox Live game?
I'm sure you know that XBox 360 games don't have a set matchmaking system, that it's still up to the games, and that what XBox Live does give you is a unified system to keep track of and communicate with your friends no matter what game you're playing. It's tough for Resistance to offer such services, considering Sony's online service has the games themselves handle a lot more than a Live game does, making it nearly impossible for devs to include the same functionality. - InferiorWang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I think theyre full of it. They know that the platform is difficult to program for and developers arent going to put the time and money into maxing out the PS3 when the 360 has such a larger market and is easier and cheaper to develop for.
- MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Hey, you can't blame people for making these things sound negative. It's Sony's fault for not getting their idiotic PR team to be careful with their words and learn how to articulate their thoughts.
I shouldn't need a Sony fan to translate their retarded marketing buzz into an actual sentence.
Oh, and FYI, Harrison isn't that ***** technical. I bet you he meant that the PS3 is so powerful, that it's impossible to ever require all the power it provides. I'm not even a Sony fan, and that seemed fairly obvious when I first read it. He's a marketing tool, not an engineer. - virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Crass, how is a "motion sensing" controller with only Six axis' a lot more inovative then a free motion remote? Please help me understand.
- someguy9, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9they just keep pushing this system, were not gonna buy!
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Of course no one will use 100% of the ps3, because that would require everything to be at 100% efficiency, which is impossible, because 100% efficiency requires an exhaust temperature of absolute zero (-273.15 °C), seeing as efficiency of an object is:
e = T sub H - T sub C
-------------------------------
T sub H
T sub C would need to be absolute zero, and thustly, unless Sony has had some amazing scientific breakthrough , that has baffled scientists for decades, ins, at least for now, done something that is completely impossible (reaching absolute zero), then of course the ps3 isn't going to be used 100%, because that woudl require 100% efficiency. At best it could run maybe 5% - 15% efficency, like most modern cars and devices, and maybe max out the processcor, or close to it (thoough unlikely).
Oh, Thanks Mr Dappen - Ap Physics :D
Oh, and in real terms, no console is going to be 100% used and i would bet my life savings on that., no computer is going to be 100% used, and no gadget is going to be 100% used, due to limitations of background operations, and the sheer fact that reaching teh exact breaking point, is not good for a game developer, as the game will be unsteady when it's using %100 of the processor power. I would go as far as to say using 80% of any consoles power is bad coding. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Who keeps giving this guy permission to speak?!!
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The PS3 uses dump trucks instead of a databus tube so never has any problem with clogged memories.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@Spidoman: Hate to rain on your parade, but Gears runs pretty much like a hot knife through butter in 720p and 1080i on my TV. The only time I see any stutter is for no more than a few seconds in some cutscenes. Can't say anything 'bout the PS3, though. Haven't played anything more than the MotorStorm demo, and it ran pretty smooth at 720p.
- Lieske, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If no one is going to use 100% of it, they shouldn't have bothered putting in all the crap that they did. It only made production costs high (so now they actually lose money), caused delays, and contributed to the limit of systems they could make.
- sporb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4why buy a porche when someone is selling a ferarri for cheaper?
- trubbleshute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Read my post above you, there are PS3's in stock at my local GameStop
Edit: It's also a college town -- lots of kids here. - trubbleshute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No one is even buying the PS3, GameStop in my hometown has them in stock. They are out of Wii's and DS's. Yes, the PS3 in stock, for at least a week, yes no one is buying it.
No one is buying it, no one will use the power. - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Please Sonys only saying that because the current multiconsole games look better on 360. You ***** up Sony with you SUPERCOMPUTER.
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What I first thought of was that no programmer would be able to use near 100% of the system. Which will probably be true for quite a while. Hell Final Fantasy XII is the best graphics I've seen on PS2 and that came out this year. So really in a sense, any video game system will never be used completely because programmers will always find new techniques to push the system further.
- robbiedo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Anybody notice that eBay prices for PS3 are close to retail, but the Wii is still doing well in auctions. What a collapse!
- skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Innovative, sure. It's not like Nintendo was the company who made Kirby's Tilt n' Tumble.
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The reason no one will ever utilize 100% of the PS3 power is because the system is SO powerful. If they did use 100% of the ps3 capabilities a rip in the fabric of space time would occur, rendering a time vortex so powerful that we'd all be destroyed, or at worst sucked into a dimension where is nothing to buy but failed Sony formats. Oh God...THE HUMANITY!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4who cares? microsoft is really owning this generation as far as multiplayer. some of you don't recognize how much xbox live really is miles ahead of everything. And some of you don't realize how popular Wii is with the general public.
PS2 owned the casual gamers. Wii is taking that from them with low price, and more fun gameplay. No console that costs $600 will EVER win over casual players (unless you're talking 20 years from now due to inflation).
Xbox 360 is owning the hardcore games. Real PC games are on it, as well as exclusives with quality online play. Not to mention the huge head start. There's no way PS3 can take this without making massive strides (as in reducing price, increasing supply, which it won't do fast enough) - brd6644, on 09/01/2009, -0/+4Sounds like they could have scaled back the capabilities by 20% and maybe saved the average consumer $100 or so bucks.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Id use it to travel back in time and buy a Wii...
- crcurran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sony execs need to be gagged for Sony's own good
