- radixus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+163Why does it seem like Microsoft and Sony are a divorsing couple and Nintendo is the child stuck in the middle and the two parents are just toying with the child to side with them and hate the other.
What these two companies don't realise that the Nintendo Wii and DS will probably wipe the flow with both of them. They were the only console that has really did something DIFFERENT!
Just something interesting. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+74If I bought a PS3, I don't believe I would be able to buy ANOTHER console for a long while... have to feed myself once in a while.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+76well i plan to shun both microsoft and ps3, and simply have the nintendo system + my computer...
i imagine that would be a popular choice :) anyway for the price of a ps3 i could buy a pentium D 805 (dual core 64bit) overclock it to 4ghz, and whack in a 7800 plus some more RAM... now thats an upgrade :D - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+58Hold on, I'm seeing something...
The year is 2010...
Infinium Labs announces they've got more funding for the Phantom... They use up the funds to create a device that makes crappy stuff disappear, and thus they cannot make their December 2010 release date.
Sony prepares the PS4, and trying to be like Nintendo, they release no information about it, and even at E3 details are scarce... They release the system in September 2010, but no one even knew it came out.
Microsoft is working on the Xbox 360*2^pi. They cut costs by putting the cheapest available parts and use the saved funds to maximize advertising. The systems explode at the retailers due to overheating... Windows Vienna is also delayed.
Nintendo releases another system. Everyone buys it because it's all that was left.
Google joins the console market with AdConsole. A console which enables you to watch text ads on your TV all day long. Stocks soar. - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+55They have been talking like this for a while. Acting like the Nintendo system isn't in the same league as theirs. After E3 they're going to have to re-assess that way of thinking and come up with some different spin. Who knows, maybe they'll realize they have to bite the bullet and actually innovate something.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40To quote that Ken guy over at Sony, as he said last E3:
"If you can't afford it, suck it up and get a second job."
Because, you know, you'll have time to play your PS3 after you're working all those hours. What a moron. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32@shrewd
I appreciate what you're getting at by trying to shun microsoft and sony by only getting a wii and pc games... but if you're a pc gamer then you're definitely not shunning microsoft. Can't play those games without windows. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30LMAO, is there nothing those idiots won't copy. MS was VERY smart in backing the Wii. I mean the whole "360 + Wii = price of PS3" marketing is genius, but once again Sony just doesn't get it.
- kweee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Now all Nintendo needs to do is come out and say, "Yeah, buy a Wii like MS and Sony are telling you to do. But don't buy their systems because they're CRAP!"
- rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28I agree I haven't bought a 360 dont plan on buying a PS3 but I do however plan on buying the Wii, it will be the first console in my house since the N64.
- redneckblues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Once again, Sony just doesn't get it.
360 + Wii = PS3
PS3 + Wii = 2 360's!
Excuse me while I whore myself out on the street to pay for Sony's plan. - radixus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22If I bought a PS3, I don't think I would be able to buy anything else - like extra controllers, games, etc... at launch.
I mean, if 360 games are about 60 bucks, then you would imagine the PS3 games would cost the same or a little more. How are people going to afford their launch titles!
Sony has just lost all touch with the community. At least their controller went back to the original design - which works. - szelij, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21I'm hedging some money that the Wii will be a huge success...going to sell when the stock reaches sky-high. Then use that money to buy the PS3 as well...
- agony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19yes
- Omicron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19exactly retral. the ONLY reason MS suggested the Wii was because they were trying to make a point that you could buy two great systems for the price of 1 Sony PS3. Once again, Sony tries to steal an idea (this one simply for publicity) and fails.
- northerncomfort, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I'm starting to wonder if Sony isn't just a large group of monkies that watch the game industry intently and immitate everything that gets said.
- prytz420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I think I've heard of some guy in Bhutan who isn't getting one either
- c0uchm0nster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16if you spent 400$ on a router you're retarded. if you spent 400$ on a router, firewall, and email server... you're still retarded. if you throw a fileserver in there you're slightly less retarded, depending on the storage size and redundancy.
- sulthernao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"the crazy thought to me is, if the Wii is released at the Nintendo standard of 199USD, that's FOUR games at 50USD each in addition to the console to match the price of the PS3 that comes with nothing else."
Actually it would be 6 games to equal $499, and 8 games for $599. But thats assuming you don't buy any extra controllers, etc. - TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Seriously, the PC is a much more interesting use of 600+ bucks. The only reason I ever used consoles was that buying a new PC to play current games was too expensive. Unless someone hacks these systems to give them PC functionality I have little or no interest in them at all. Both the PS3 and the 360 are incredibly impressive peices of hardware, but both are seriously limited by corporate nearsightnedness, DRM and lack of compatability. Give me a system that can play anyone's games, is totally backwards compatable, and can run 3rd party programs and i'll just hand that PC right back to you.
- dr00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16the crazy thought to me is, if the Wii is released at the Nintendo standard of 199USD, that's FOUR games at 50USD each in addition to the console to match the price of the PS3 that comes with nothing else.
If i were to follow microsoft's advice, that's two consoles for the price of one.
If i were to follow sony's.... that's another 3 months of eating ramen just survive.
If i wasn't already putting the Wii in my top position, i'd definitely be more likely to go with microsoft's advice. - Crocodile, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Only reason Sony likes the Wii is they plan to buy and take some MORE ideas from it.
- ajb2015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Wii the second console I buy? How about the first and only. Sony, you're in for a harsh wake up call.
"....PlayStation 3's price is justified by PlayStation 3's value. That's what consumers base their purchasing decisions on -- value."
Am I supposed to laugh at this? If he is referring to the fact that the PS3 can also play Blu-Ray, well guess what, I don't effing need one. I mean, when was the last time you heard someone complain about the quality of a DVD? When was the last time you heard someone say, damn, I really want to re-purchase my entire movie collection? Where is the value in paying for something that you don't need? - apetrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13More "me too" behaviour from Sony. Kind of sad at this point. I don't know if the PS3 will be worth what they are charging for it, I never will simply because there's no way I could ever justify buying it, even if its the best thing ever!
- dioscaido, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14@harshbarj: I personally could care less about Blue Ray or HD DVD. I'm buying a console to play games, and games fit just dandy in one or a handful of DVDs. I don't need Sony shoving their format down my throat.
- IcanFLY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13This sounds a whole lot like "By the Wii, but then also buy our console... please!"
- GeneralSun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Not even then, because both would probably come to the PC a few months later.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Didn't MS say the same thing, plus the fact that you can afford 2 consoles (x360+wii) for the price of the ps3?
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -10/+22Screw pentium D... core duo 4tw. ^ ..regardless, this announcement by sony is rediculous, Most gamers won't be able to afford another console on top of the nearly thousand dollars a PS3 would cost after a decent amount of controllers and selection of games.
- dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12exactly what I thought, sony is such a failure now..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It sure looks like it, Ace.
- addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Lol, i think Sony missed the point of Microsofts comment, i get two consoles for the price of one with MS/wii combo (lol i can't wait for the wii to be sold bundeled with the 360 on amazon now) to get a ps3 and and a wii... thats 800 bucks. Sony has just gone off the deep end, they are reeling from the e3 blow, it sure is good entertainment though, we will see if they can save some face. I would hope they fail miserably and the company gets restructured and changes its ideals, sony does have a few good products (i like a pair of earbuds i bought from them :D) and laptops are not bad either. TV's are overpriced, mp3 players are full of DRM, and everything else is just blah, the sony brand has been reduced from one of quality to annoyance for a lot of customers, maybe they can change that and return to their roots
- F9Phoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@iluvatar
"I appreciate what you're getting at by trying to shun microsoft and sony by only getting a wii and pc games... but if you're a pc gamer then you're definitely not shunning microsoft. Can't play those games without windows."
here's a picture of steam on my desktop: http://appdb.winehq.com/appimage.php?id=2592
;) - homeobocks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Now Sony is stealing Microsoft's ideas!
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The only reason to buy both a 360 and a PS3 is if you absolutely HAVE to play both Halo 3 and the latest Final Fantasy. They've both got approximately the same graphical capabilities, subscription-based online services, wireless controllers, built-in hard drives and proprietary memory cards. Exclusive titles are the only way you can differentiate them.
The Wii is a perfect second choice. It's definitely going to be the "party system." :) - sulthernao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yeah, seriously $400 for a home network? Unless this was something major, you got scammed
- mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It seems like both Microsoft and Sony are saying to buy the Wii as a second system. Eitehr way the Wii wins.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I don't see how either Harrison or Moore think Nintendo is going to be the "second" system to most gamers. Let's look at the *simple* mathematics and statistics of this. According to both of them, gamers will pick up the Wii and (one of PS3 or Xbox 360).
Entertainment centers will look like this:
Wii and 360
or
Wii and Ps3
not
PS3 and 360 (no Wii)
As far as market share goes, if Microsoft and Sony have equal numbers of fanboys...
Nintendo Wii - 50%
Xbox 360 - 25%
PlayStation 3 - 25%
So uh, how does Nintendo come in second there? More like first, to me. - Dontlooknow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Well i think that cements it everyone wants you to buy a Wii. so what are you waiting for fanboys and fangirls obey your master and get a Wii.
- SpeedyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9SONY/MICROSOFT TRANSLATION... "We need SOMEBODY making a profit in the gaming industry, otherwise our stockholders will have our heads for wasting all this money! Everyone buy Nintendo!"
- cartwheels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Sony and horny don't rhyme. At least not well.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@Klisk - Sony's ego really does know no bounds, does it? How obsessed do they think we are with them if they think anyone in their right minds would get a second job over a GAME CONSOLE?!
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Sony is trying to make BR the winner by putting it in the PS3."
Which makes them even more harebrained, since they need mainstream adoption in order to succeed.
The PS3 is a videogame console and will be stocked in the appropriate store section by general retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Hardly any member of the non-gaming public is even going to SEE a PS3, let alone consider buying one for the explicit purpose of watching movies. And good luck selling them for $500 when even hardcore gamers are balking at that price. - dynasty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"I think Nintendo will be the second system consumers purchase after PlayStation 3." - Harrison
Yea, that's not presumptuous at all. - MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@harshbarj
The $499 PS3 will only do component out. Only the $599 PS3 has HDMI. And since it's still completely unclear which format will win the HD war, buying a console for the HD support isn't necessarily a good idea. Sony is trying to make BR the winner by putting it in the PS3. But if that fails, and the movie studios all switch over to HD-DVD, then you don't really have an HD player anymore. MS is making the HD-DVD drive an add-on, so the consumer doesn't have to shoulder the cost if they don't want to. Which is interesting, because if BR does win out, MS might be able to license the technology from another manufacturer and make a BR add-on drive for the 360, or their next console after that if the wars take that long. This is also assuming that HVD doesn't just take over as a viable format for HD movies and blow the other two out of the water before they really had a chance. - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11@muyuu, processing power is just one criteria to define "leagues" for consoles. Microsoft and Sony should realize that it isn't the best criteria.
- TravisL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The PS3 will go down in the same fashion as the PSP. The Xbox 360 is the Nintendo DS. Sony doesn't give a hoot about gaming with this thing. All they care about is winning the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD battle and the will be ruined because of it.
As for the Wii, it truly touching a completely different market. It will survive along side with Microsoft, and be a huge success for Nintendo.
There is no reason for anybody to drop $600 on a gaming console. Microsoft pushing the limit with $399. For $600, you can build a pretty decent PC. - RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The second console isn't in question. Obviously it's th Wii. Sony should worry more about what people choose as their first console.
- ScionX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Whoring yourself is a job.......
