- grat2001, on 10/12/2007, -16/+130Lets see I just saw 10 at Fry's today, and 6 at one Target and 4 at another yesterday...Game over Sony!
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -9/+103This is as true now as it was then... http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/02/10
Locally, just calling stores in my area... (canton, oh-- calling stores in North Canton/Canton -- I still have the numbers written down for when I was chasing a Wii down heh.)
Best Buy, In Stock (two stores)
Target, In Stock (one store)
EB, In Stock (one store)
Walmart, In Stock (two stores)
Gamestop, Out of Stock, Clerk says they shipped to EB for a big sale last week and haven't got new units yet. (one store)
Checking online...
BestBuy.com, In Stock
Walmart.com, In Stock
Target.com, In Stock
So... where is this mystical shortage and if it's selling so well how come I don't know a SINGLE person IRL who has one... out of ~120-130 people who are gamers?
Oh and a quick check on Wii's while I was looking around and calling around... there's not a wii in stock anywhere. This is the kinda ***** that is ruining sony's reputation. Arrogance and assuming people are retarded when you speak doesn't do wonders for your corporate image... add in the root kit bull, the massive nerfs of eq2/swg/eq, the ludicrous price of teh console... etc.. bad juju. - toasty168, on 10/12/2007, -9/+75man, it's ***** like this that makes me HATE sony. they're like that little kid who refuses to admit he ***** and says, "i meant to do that." these claims are really insulting to our intelligence. i wouldn't really hate sony if they'd just admit the truth. sales aren't as great as they'd hoped but they are moving and will hopefully move faster once more games come out. is that so hard? how stupid does sony think we are? we see the stupid consoles on the shelves everywhere and it ain't because they have some magical manufacturing process it's because people aren't buying them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+64Sony is starting to remind me of Iraq's propaganda minister during the invasion -
"THERE ARE NO AMERICANS IN BAHGDAD!" *M1A1 rolls past behind him* - omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -3/+54I bought one, because I'm a collector. I know there will be games on it that I'll want, at some point, and for some reason unknown to me, it was worth paying $600 for. I got mine in early January... The first time I saw them, the local Best Buy had a pile of between 30 and 40 units, and nobody was looking at them seriously. I stood there for about 30 minutes considering whether I wanted one, and eventually my wife dragged me out of the store without it. One week later, I went back and bought one. In those 7 days, I'd estimate about 4 were sold. The huge pile was still there. I even asked one of the employees if they were selling, and his response was "Everybody looks at them, but nobody's willing to pay that much."
If I could possibly control my collector tendencies, I wouldn't have purchased one. The hardware is nothing special. There's only one or two games worth playing. The multiplayer support just doesn't exist (or sucks in its current implementation). The system updates take FAR too long (last night's 1.54 firmware upgrade took over an hour to download, then reboot, then connect your WIRELESS controller with a wire (wtf?), then install, then reboot, then accept the license agreement...what a waste of time). If anything, there's only a handful of games even on the horizon that look worthwhile, and I'm not sure those collectively would be worth the $600 admission fee, even if the games themselves were free. Overall, coming from a PS3 owner (as well as Wii and Xbox 360), I'm HIGHLY disappointed in the PS3. My gaming dollars go to the 360 over anything else (the Wii is fun, but once you get one, you find that you don't play it nearly as much as you thought you would). - MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52@McGrude
There's stupid fanboys on all sides. Sony fanboys(at least the most vocal ones on Digg) aren't exactly stupid; they just have this insane level of brand loyalty that's almost scary. Scarier than Apple fanboys, really. - canti32, on 10/12/2007, -6/+49@grat
Let's see... If you can provide proof, the Jack Tretton owes you...24,000$ dollars. You might as well quit your job and just do this full time. - McGrude, on 10/12/2007, -9/+52Well, given the behavior of most Sony/Playstation fanboys, yes Sony does believe consumers are that stupid.
- nkocic, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36What Sony needs is someone to hit their reset button.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33I'm told the same story at any store I walk into. No Wii's, plenty of 3's.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25ITZ POLITICS TIME LOL.
Wait, no it isn't. Get out. - enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Not as old and tired as that ps3 thats been sitting in walmart for 3 months! ZING!
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Tretton: "...Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it's to have full shelves."
Mission Accomplished! - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22They've got to do something to kill the time until they are able to find a PS3 on the shelves.
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I swear there is one or 2 Sony fans that are going through these posts and digging EVERYONE down.
- gweasel2000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Well the caption isn't entirely wrong, "Sony refutes reports that the PS3 is sitting on store shelves.", I just returned from the local best buy and they had six sitting on the FLOOR!
- MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Are you so insecure about your console of choice that you have to bitch, complain and whine on every anti-Sony article on Digg?
No, I'm not trying to offend or flame you, but the argument works both ways. About a year ago, back when people were still doubting Nintendo, you would see many anti-Nintendo articles on Digg. And right after the launch of the 360, there were plenty of anti-Microsoft(hell, there's always anti-Microsoft stories on Digg) stories. You know what I found worked best back then? IGNORING those stories. Just ignore them. You'll feel better for doing so, and you won't be wasting your time attempting to argue with people.
This isn't politics; you shouldn't get so worked up just because these stories continually make it to the front page. That's just my opinion, though.
Digg me down for irrelevancy! - shadus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Oh, I wasn't really berating Microsoft, I've just been working with and on computers for ~15 years... the answer for windows has always been to try a reboot first, prior to xp it fixed about 80% of the computer problems people had. Microsoft is miles ahead of Sony these days, there was a time I would have reversed that though.
- echonull, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=212
The irony is overwhelming. - jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18ignorance is....well, still ignorance.
silly sony. - Goombellaofgoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Obviously the Boston police confiscated them all. Large black boxes lying around for months... what are they supposed to think?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Go for it, I'd like to read over them as well. The more companies are called out for stupid *****, the better it is for all of us.
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16When he decides to pay up to the penny-arcade guys (hey-- he should donate it to their charity! that would be good pr for sony... first in quite sometime I'll add) I'll take the time and effort to go around and snap some pics on my camera phone. Mind, that wasn't how many each store had in stock... it was just the stores that had them in stock period... I didn't ask about quantities, but if my local walmart is a good indicator about 6-8 each store would be spot on... I didn't check to see if they were 20g or 60g though.
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16sony: look at how well our system's doing! its unbelievable!
customer: umm. thats the wii.
sony: so?
customer: you guys dont make the wii..you make the ps3
sony:uhh.....prove it. - rolosworld, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18quote:
"Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it's to have full shelves...."
so basically he is saying that they don't want people buying PS3's they just want to fill shelves across US!!!!!
I feel good now that I know I'm helping them :-) - LanceHardenburg, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20@MouseCircus
"Scarier than Apple fanboys, really."
I don't know if I would go that far... the aqua team is a pretty brand loyal bunch. - beepsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@coheedcollapse
"I mean seriously. How many people who used to bash the Gamecube are suddenly in love with the Wii?"
The gamecube and wii are two seperate products, despite being made by the same company its logical to assume people will have different opinions about one than the other. I see nothing wrong with someone hating the gamecube and loving the wii, or someone loving the ps2 and hating the ps3. Past success or failure is not indicative of future success or failure.
If anything I wish more people would judge systems on their merits rather than brand loyalties. - Ravenhaft, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Absolutely. Let's read about Nintendo's terrible customer support, like the story about the guy who drove to their headquarters and had his Wii repaired within a half hour. Or we can talk about Microsoft's terrible lies about adding an HD-DVD drive. Wait, that one happened too. Sure, bad games come out for any console, but that's hardly news. The reason stories about Microsoft and Nintendo's "out of control propaganda machines" don't get dugg is because they're not there. By all means, prove me wrong. An informed decision about a brand should be based on the largest pool of evidence available, and consequently I'm sure any intelligent person on Digg would be completely willing to examine said evidence.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14I've found Windows XP to be _very_ stable. All these people that claim OMGZ I GOT A BSOD are just computer illiterate kids who think linux makes them look cool.
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Oh definitely, if the 360 and Wii are blowing smoke up our ass like Sony please do post it. I hate deceptive business practices no matter who is committing them.
- xyqxyq, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11What the f*** is wrong with Sony? Do they just not get reality? I'm fine with confidence bordering arrogance, but to spew this BS while it is clear that the opposite is true. That's a new low.
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Go away. Blocked.
- ravma479, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11See, only having a couple of PS3's sitting on the shelf, not selling, at every retailer isn't good enough. They want lots and lots of PS3's sitting on the shelf, not selling, at every retailer.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13LOL The only thing that is demanding the system is the store shelves.
Sony... count to 3 and keep saying... the Nintendo Wii is not mine, the Nintendo Wii is not mine, the Nintendo Wii is not mine... ;)
The only thing SONY might be stuggling with is trying to tell the truth ;) - shadus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Except they market the console to gamers... who generally, well you know...walk into the "games isle" and notice there are ps3's sitting everywhere... which makes Sony appear to think that their customers are stupid. Which achieves the exact opposite intent of advertising.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10PS3 availability at Circuit Citys in Manhattan:
86th St: Out of stock
80th St: Out of stock
Union Sq: Out of stock
And the rest of the metro area, (Bergen, Rego Park, Atlantic Ave., Whitestone, Gateway, Bay Ridge, and Yonkers), are also out of stock.
All of those have 360's in stock and no Wiis. - EmmSee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Sony's right on this one. It's hard to get them around Boston still.
- Starflyer59, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Wow this news is original and of a kind I have not seen before. Fantastic stuff.
- ManHammer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11There is a stack as tall as me across the street at Best(Worst)Buy
- rprouse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10No problem finding them in Canada,

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10080745&catid=24354 - Djarum, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Well I know at least my store we haven't had systems for about a month now.
Although this is not due to high demand quite the opposite. We have had multiple systems since about a week after launch and throughout the holiday season. We finally got rid of the last of our systems a couple weeks ago and have not been resupplied reasons being lack of demand. Funny thing is no one has came and asked for one either.
Now Wiis on the other hand are gone in about 10 minutes receiving and I have at least 40-60 people coming in or calling a day for one. - MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9These stories keep getting dugg because Sony execs keep supplying us with "massive" doses of unintentional comedy. If they shut up, the stories go away.
- xnacoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I digged you tech... although at the cost of this post getting buried :)
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I think people are fed up with Sony's attitude. Just look at this article! They are claiming demand for PS3 is causing it to sell out when it blatently obvious that...they aren't! Its a full face lie. Why would anyone want to back a company that blatently lies about their product, right in the consumer's face? Yes the business world is cut throat, but at least Nintendo doesn't make ***** up every other day.
I play all video games, PC and Consoles and this stuff is ridiculous and just chasing me away from Sony. - MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I will ship as many as you want to you and your friends (for a small fee of course). They are everywhere here.
- TooTameJames, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I know a mom and pop store 6 blocks away from my office that has had 10 of them for over a month. Who is their spokesman? Baghdad Bob?
- pixelate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"...and endcaps, and floor displays, and online inventory"
where CAN'T you find a PS3? - putamare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It would take a lot more than $1000 to get me to go to Bergen Co. (Ramsey) New Jersey
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8haha i'm just embelishing the crazyness that sony is saying. if you keep up with all the gaming news, then you know it couldnt make any less sense for them to be saying some of the stuff they are saying. so in order to try and make that point i took it one step further and wrote what i imagine a conversation between sony and the informed gamer might go like.
- nickj6282, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I was just at Subway up the street and they seem to be sold out of PS3s. However, that's probably the only place in town that doesn't have at least four on the shelf and ready to go.
