Please don't ask other people to act like fanboy zombies. If he thinks the animation looks bad, he certainly has a right to say so. Why don't you counter him instead of repeating what your mom always told you? - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23That's just the bell. Sorry. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24I'm a Sega fanboy and love Sonic, but the idiot who submitted this to Digg is, well, an idiot. Gushing over graphics like THIS merely proves that you have not been following the videogame industry for the last, oh, 5 years or so.
Yeah, it looks very nice. No, it does not look better than many games that came out a few years ago.
When you're talking about Sonic, here's a tip: Focus on the GAMEPLAY. We play Sonic games because they're some of the best platformers around, always have been, and always will be. - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I'm just psyched about the "classic" style gameplay! This is exactly what the Sonic series needs.
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Umm...he's a fricken HEDGEHOG! With magical shoes that make him run really fast. How accurate do you want it?
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26Hmm the animition looks horrible, it looks like sonic is ice skating not running. animation doensnt match movement. he physically moves more than the animation does. its almost distracting. but i lost faith in sonic after he went 3D
- Gamer858, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@jeffbax
Since when was Sonic about exploration? Perhaps you're confusing Sonic with the Metroid games? Maybe you're refering to Sonic Adventure and the other 3D games, but I'd hardly call those classic. The way I remember it, Sonic was always about the speed, pure and simple. There are alternate routes, sure, but exploration is a minor aspect compared to the twitch gameplay that dominates the games. - pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Yeah but it's still has the 3D camera, I would rather have a sonic game that was done the same way the New Super Mario Bros. was on the DS, with the side scrolling camera but with 3d graphics. Sega has yet to do that for a sonic game and I think it needs to be done
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14then you definately need the Sonic Rush for the DS
more classic than any of those Sonic Advance titles - LunarOcean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@pegisys
That's pretty much what Sonic Rush was. - jjpertusch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12ok, it looks alright, but are there going to be looping guitar riffs in the background while i play?
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You will fight actual battles from ancient Japan.
Here is a giant enemy crab...
http://riiiiiiidgeracer.ytmnd.com/ - RocketDarkness, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Just want to say: I played this at E3, and it was absolutely fantastic. I'm not sure why everyone else seems to suck at the game. I picked up the controller, spent the first few seconds getting the hang of the sensitivity for turning, and away I went. A couple of random points:
1. The graphics are very pretty. It's not reflected very well in the videos, but it's very fluid, bright, and appealing.
2. A lot of people sucked with the jump, and I don't understand why. Tapping "2" makes him do the lunge jump which maintains momentum. If you hold it, he pauses and charges a jump, causing him to jump much farther vertically. The person in the video seems to be just barely charging a jump, which is getting him nowhere in either direction.
On a side note, I actually managed to make the guy manning the booth inquire, "Have you played this before?"
3. Homing is done by flicking the controller forward. Very pleasant feeling. And yes, you can use the dash attack for acceleration ala previous 3D games.
4. The camera is perfect, because even when it's doing crazy things, you don't have to worry about your control freaking out.
This is probably my most-desired Wii game, and I did play Twilight Princess. - philmunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yes, I like many others played sonic for the storyline, not the awesome gameplay (sarcasm, for those who have the inability to detect it)
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah... Agreed jeffbax doesn't know what the hell he is talking about yet he got modded up. That must mean there are even more people who think a 3D exploration Sonic is where his roots were founded... Really people come on. The Sonic games for the Genesis were where it's at for the blue hedgehog. They are bringing this gameplay back with the rail system by incorporating 3D graphics is all. So basically it's going to be like taking the 2D side scrolling action and pitting the camera right behind him so that you can follow all the massively fast paced action he goes through. I think it sounds sweet because I used to love being able to run 500 MPH through levels. There is still small amounts of input by the player such as where to jump but that's it and that's Sonic.
Exploration... Bah! - breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Wow, I haven't bought video games since the Genesis, but this is making me salivate.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I don't know why everyone is so excited about the gameplay when they are clearly clunky in this video. The person playing is obviously having problems and it looks really frusturating when you get stopped by something in your way. Plus from the video it looks like you're stuck on tracks for most of the game. What is this a next gen adventure/racing game on foot?
- danjal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6actualy he can run fast already, in one of the cartoon series from way back (shows how much i followed sonic) he had his shoes taken and if he tried to run he would burn the bottom of his feet..
- Capta1nA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i hope so
the music from sonic 2 is amazing. hopefully the songs in this game will be longer than 55 seconds ;) - UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Hey at least it's technology related, that's just one less thing for you to bitch about.
- poofyhairguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well I have to admit this is a little exciting, even though I did not play the last 3D Sonic game.
Come on Nintendo- give us the Sonic announcement we all really want!
"Sonic Now Playable Character in Wii Smashbrothers Game"
Just the idea of having Mario fight Sonic makes the kid in me sing. Its soooooo obvious I can't believe that it has not been done yet. He should have been added long before Snake was.... - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Here's an idea...
"Sonic: The Beginning"
Sonic and Dr. Kintobor investigate reports that an asteroid that crashed into the peaceful countryside has caused mutations to occur in the animals that live there. Run, jump, pop, collect, ringringring, boing. Possibly some swoosh. Put in some SPU* effects, and bingo.
Spoiler: Over the course of the game Kintobor is corrupted by the alien technology and eventually goes on rampage to take over the world by transforming all the animals into obedient robots. Begin Sonic 1.
*See previous digg stories. - sains, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's just nice that Sonic games (appear) to be going back to their roots with simple but effective gameplay methods.
- eudaimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Have to say, I didn't really see any big difference between that game and the rather disappointing Sonic Adventures games I played on my Dreamcast. It could be fun--one of the big complaints about SA was that the "running sequences" were too short, and this looks (somewhat) better. Still not really enough to get me excited, especially with decidedly NON-Next Gen graphics.
- Bootes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's what they have to do with Worms as well. 3D graphics, but still side scrolling. I wish the developers would stop ruining side scrolling games like this. :(
- rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because the wii does widescreen 480p
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4:D I like. Simple. Like the old Sonic I like so much!
- DesEagle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Is that Sonic straddling a wall? I've seen that way too many times since PoP:TSoT came out...I know it was done before that...but almost every game has followed the platforming elements perfected in the PoP series...
As for the graphics, they're alright, about what I expected for a Wii game. If you hadn't told me, I would have guessed GC with some pictures and Xbox with the better ones...I can't believe THAT's what the next generation looks like for some people. But like I said, it was expected for me...I guess it's alright if it plays well, but it better play REALLY well if they don't get to polishing that look. - bluephoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'll watch it again just for the hanes commercial that plays before it
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I can agree that some of his animation needs improvement, but they do have 4-5 months of development time to tweak it. There are some nice graphic effects in the video, perhaps not 360 or PS3 level, but definetly above what you would see on a xbox/ps2 or gamecube.
- jcapogna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why can't he make negative comments? He wasn't outright bashing the game, he was pointing out things that bugged him.
- magicjj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I find it funny how all the Wii whores give negative diggs on the comments that give opinions.
- RHEEK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, the whole Sonic on a wall thing was too much. Sonic is supposed to be running on the wall, not pressed up against it. They did it some in Sonic Adventure, but nothing like this.
- StealthTomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can't say that I like the idea of the "tilt-to-move" control scheme...
- dualscreenman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ah, yes. Sonic 2 sounds and music were amazing, I still remember that boss music... ah, the nostalgia.
- pidge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Except for the appearance of HDR from the sun, I can't really see the difference from this version to any last generation version. But the important thing is that this game looks fun, just lacks better graphics.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like a Sonic game. Nothing stellar. To be fair, though, the Sonic game for the 360 and PS3 don't look all that amazing, either. The controls look like they may need some work. Though it's difficult to harp on that since this isn't a final version.
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dude make up your mind. You just said "the Wii is looking to be like a gamecube with a cool controller. Everyday it seems, the Wii is looking to be like a gamecube with a cool controller. If the controller is the only thing stopping people from getting other consoles, pathetic." Then not a line or so later, you tell us you're getting one. If you aren't impressed with it, why are you even bothering?
If the graphics don't impress you and you feel that people are only making their decision to buy the Wii because of the new controller, what is your reason for getting it? Because, truthfully, to me, it sounds like that you will be purchasing the Wii for the controller. - doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Im happy that the Wii games ive seen so far are atleast widescreen since theres no HD
- RHEEK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I also thought he looked like he was ice skating. The gameplay looks kinda weird to me, but I guess we'll see.
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree, Not even the Wii controller can make a 3d sonic game fun. That is why they have the virtual console.
- dave5700, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It seems that anyone who is excited about the Wii is labeled "FANBOY! OMG". It also seems that the majority of people are more excited about the Wii than PS3 or 360. I'll get a PS3 and a Wii, but I'll get a Wii as soon as possible and I'll get a used PS3 from Gamestop.
@gxcdesign;
I respect Mario because he hasn't changed. He has been a static figure in a dynamic world. Heh, joking aside, I respect Sonic but he seems a bit too "X-TREME!!!" for me. I really enjoyed Sega Genesis Sonic, but I kept going back to Super Mario World on the SNES, it just felt like it had so much more depth.
Regarding Side Scrollers: I'd like to see more of them. Why can't they release the one for DS on the GameCube? - Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@drigz
Agreed. Sonic Rush is the best sonic game since the origianl titles on the Genesis. I LOVE this game (minus the somtimes cheesy music and always cheesy voiceovers!)
From the on-screen movement it looks like this game might only use the wiimote and no nunchuck. I dont know how id feel about that... - ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hardware wise there isnt much of a difference.
But then again, newly released PS2 games look 10 times better than the early PS2 games. - RocketDarkness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Wonotch:
The controller is held sideways, in NES configuration. Your right hand presses the "2" button.
Controls:
Tilt left/right: Steer
Lean forward: Accelerate
Lean backwards: Decelerate/Stop
Fling forward while in Charged Jump: Midair Dash/ Homing Attack
Shake Controller [When Wildfire Meter is charged]: Boost
Tap 2: Horizontal leap, maintains speed, low vertical movement.
Hold 2: Sonic begins to brake and charges a vertical jump. Longer you charge, higher you can potentially go (with a max. cap, of course) - boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Classic-style gameplay? That looks 3D. Classic-style gameplay would be a side-scroller, like Sonic games SHOULD be.
- pauldonnelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How in the world does aggressive == mature? In normal-people land, it's exactly the opposite. I believe what you meant was, "Sonic's more aggressive nature appeals to teen boys who like to think they're grown. (And are afraid of looking like 'little kids')."
Not that I've got anything against cute little blue hedgehogs. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Usallly im agains't Nintendo and that whole "Wii" thing, by being a sony fan-boy. But this makes me change my mind.
I would love to play this on the Wii :) - projectducky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yep. Have fun with your controller that's been the same since the ps1, while we have fun and have a little money left in our wallets.
