- CptAmerica, on 10/12/2007, -15/+126I love how they blurred it out. It's only a dead animal. People kill animals by the hundreds a day, how do you think you get your hamburger meat.
(This is going to be a record for the amount of times I am going to get dugg down.) - FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+60Is this for real or a joke? Nobody can be this incompetent, can they?
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48"People kill animals by the hundreds a day"
I think the number is a tad higher than that. - kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44I think I see nipples.
- zephris, on 10/12/2007, -9/+44B-a-a-a-a-d Sony.
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -15/+48What the ***** is wrong with Sony?! I swear their advertising department is effin high when they come up with this stuff.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+43The Daily Mail is a British Tabloid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Mail
After doing a Google News search for "Sony goat", the only result I found was from thisislondon.co.uk.
Searching for "This is London" in Wikipedia yielded another British tabloid -- the Evening Standard.

So yes, this is a joke. Marked as inaccurate. - dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30"Guests at the event were even invited to reach inside the goat’s still-warm carcass to eat offal from its stomach."
who would do that? - ryanscott, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31i was to busy looking at the nips to notice the goat.
- punkisnotdead, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Let me get this straight: Sony management pushed Kutaragi out the door this week, but somehow neglected to fire their European PR team? And then they printed 80,000 copies of the official Playstation magazine with photos of a decapitated goat surrounded by topless women and dudes in Togas?
This sounds a little bit like the insanity at Atari before they also went bankrupt. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Whether or not it's a question of animal cruelty, it's ***** marketing anyway.
(The goat, that is) - drakia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I love how in the picture on the linked article, the goats head is pixelated, but they do nothing about the girl with a painted on shirt...
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19decapitated animals, knife throwing and topless girls. I am supposed to be outraged why?
this is ***** awesome - cool8man, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20"We have reproduced the spread – headlined Sony’s Greek Orgy – here, but have pixellated the image to spare readers the sight of the goat’s decapitated head hanging by a thread of tissue from its corpse, with blood dripping to the floor. But the magazine’s readers were shown the picture in its full horror."
Disgusting. Sony Europe's PR is unbelievably stupid. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -3/+12"Guests at the event were even invited to reach inside the goat’s still-warm carcass to eat offal from its stomach."
Holy *****, Sony's PR department is ***** up. - ldbjr, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21I call *****. Or *****, or whatever. This is some sort of spoof/joke.
- mrbeagle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You're all missing the point:
"Topless girls" - dime, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15"I love how they blurred it out. It's only a dead animal. People kill animals by the hundreds a day, how do you think you get your hamburger meat."
People get colostomy bags by the hundreds every day... doesn't mean it's an appropriate image for a ***** video game console. - haastyle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12haha great how they blurred it out but not the girls ***** haha
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Notice the .co.uk
***** are common over there. Only the USA is dumb enough to blur out nipples. - Tokkii, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15@str3ama
You can't be serious. You're actually trying to pull a child = goat comparison?
First thing, we don't eat kids. Or at least I don't. I won't speak for the rest of you. Second, you actually think that goat was killed (assuming any of this is actually real) was killed for the video game? That is the most moronic thing I have ever heard. Not even speaking of the fact that Sony probably doesn't have a goat farmer on hand to assist with this, WHY IN THE BLOODY HELL would they kill it themselves? Seems to me to be easier and cheaper just to buy a dead one and play "let's pretend".
Oh and you better be a freakin' vegan because guess what, dead animals are used to promote sales all the damn time. Ever seen a hamburger on TV? Well there you go. Oh wait I forgot, that's not in "cute" form. Because people don't like to think about the fact that the big, fat steak they just ate used to be a cud chewing cow with big brown eyes. - navitatl, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Who cares about dead animals?
Everyone in America should be forced to work on a farm for a month. That'll solve a lot of problems, one of them being squeamishness/regard for the lives of lesser creatures. - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14It's from those horrible british tabloids...can't trust this source.
- jorgepblank, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12@kenvsryu: yeah haha they were more worried about censoring the goat than the girl's nipples
- Aeron, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16holy crap, how can they screw up so many times. This is getting insane!
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9The model on the left is thinking "My agency is sooooo fired."
- Fhionnlaoch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Topless girls? I'm all for it.
- antifreeze11, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10the party sounded like it was fun.
- Hobofuzz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Ever heard of Haggis?
It's a Scottish dish consisting of a sheep's heart, liver, and lungs, mixed with a few vegetables, boiled inside the sheep's stomach.
And then there's sausage. Generally, sausage meat is encased in the intestines of the animal that meat came from.
Both aren't quite the same thing as what supposedly happened here, but they're close enough. It isn't exactly unusual for people to eat from another animals gastrointestinal organs. - DJNephilim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@hiki
Actually, yes. You would have to go to a halal food store (serves the Muslim community). Most of those have live animals for you to pick from, due to the religious beliefs involved, and how they have to be slaughtered. - InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9That party sounds ***** awesome!
- catfish182, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8But the girl was topless !
lets look past the digitized goat and look to the boobies - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I dugg you down only because you complained that you got dugg down. How will you respond to this?
- GeneralKickass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*****. What a bunch of bastards.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Not for a major company that's already well-known. They had a good reputation, but this amongst other things ruin it.
- TDR25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Whatever happened to just letting the game speak for itself? I really question the sanity of Sony's marketing department, and how they come up with some of these ideas. It's as if they always try to offend someone or a group of people. In this case they've offended many of the folks at PETA and they should've known better.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Joystiq posted it:
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/28/uk-paper-sony-beheaded-goat-to-promote-god-of-war-ii/
But they cropped the topless chick, I mean why bother covering it at all :P - TheKoopaBros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sony, censorship is surely a bad thing, but this...this is a bit past acceptable. Some things shouldn't be done/shown.
Wow. - Hiki, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6have you ever been to an "ethnic" food store before? I've never heard of anyone going to a store and pointing out the animals they want killed.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Sounds more like something from a British Tabloid.
- ElectricKetchup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4People buy video games for fun. They don't expect animals to be killed in the process. It's not a double standard. When you buy slaughtered animal flesh, you already know an animal was murdered for it. I was actually looking into buying this game, but if this story is true, I feel like the game must be boycotted.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4To those wondering why the goat is censored:
con·text (kŏn'těkst')
- The circumstances in which an event occurs; a setting.
Dead goat served at a restaurant = not blurred
Documentary about goat slaughtering = not blurred
Magazine article about the goat slaughtering industry = not blurred
Killing a goat to sell a video game console = blurred - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4it's not really unethical on Sony's part, animals get slaughtered every day; what it is, is stupid. Someone at Sony MUST have known this was gonna piss people off, WTF where they thinking!? I think they might be taking the saying "there is no such thing as bad publicity" a little too seriously.
Honestly I think this has to be fake... - j4200, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4No its fake. And atari was going under for plenty of reasons other than management. Why do you think Nintendo's Seal of Quality was so important?
- Tokkii, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Amen. That sounds like the best party I could go to all year.
On a serious note, the dead goat was kind of a bad idea but really, did Sony kill it? Of course they didn't. They bought it dead and just put it out for display. The way people are describing this, you would have thought the Sony PR team actually slaughtered the thing in front of the crowd. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I call BS
This is, in itself, a promo - scotticus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dude centerblack, WTF? The 3 chicks on the right are hot, but what the hell is that thing holding up the "war is indecent" sign?
I think I'd prefer bombs. - TheBigBad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is going to result in a huge boycott of Sony and no one buying Playstation 3. No, that won't work, there isn't anyone buying them anyway.
- skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Hurray! Now I won't have to shovel over 700 for MGS4.
- Daedalus317, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1P.E.T.A. = People Eating Tasty Animals.
