- billjimbob, on 08/10/2008, -36/+194I have all three consoles.
Wii sits unused, and will continue to do so until the next Mario/Zelda/Metroid game comes out. Nintendo needs to get off their ass with online play.
360 gets most of my playtime, especially now with the recent XBLA titles.
PS3 sat mostly unused until MGS4 came out (most overrated game ever... "You were the lightning in that rain!!!" "You were the wind beneath my wings!!" lol ok). But now, with trophies, Drake's Fortune has been getting a lot more of my playtime. Starting to use it a lot more. Pixeljunk Monsters was fun, Eden sucked.
360 and PS3 will probably share playtime 50/50 throughout the fall, although it largely depends on whether LittleBigPlanet can actually live up to the hype.
P.S. Xbox Live destroys PSN.... and Nintendo's online "network" doesn't even deserve a mention.
There is my completely unbiased review of this console generation. - Ajajadude, on 08/11/2008, -7/+65No one is unbiased. It's impossible. But, you're opinion wasn't full of fanboy nonsense, so, good enough.
Have you tried Ratchet & Clank? If you liked Drake's Fortune you might like it. - Kefote, on 08/10/2008, -11/+64Sounds like this article was written by a 12 year old.
- crazycarlmar, on 08/11/2008, -8/+59I don't know why people are digging you down, your point is completely right. It's just that Nintendo is becoming less of a video game company and more of a toy company.
- ebolaworld, on 08/11/2008, -2/+48Who cares.... Play with what you wanna play with.
- skaldicpoet9, on 08/11/2008, -6/+38"It's just that Nintendo is becoming less of a video game company and more of a toy company."
The irony in that statement is hilarious. - jefeboy, on 08/11/2008, -4/+35The Wii is for playing when friends come over.
The 360 is for playing with friends online.
I'll get a PS3 when I can't live without a Blu-Ray player anymore. - reed311, on 08/10/2008, -1/+32These articles are always interesting, as they are pretty much the only ones on Digg where almost every comment is in the negatives.
- ArasakaRyu, on 08/11/2008, -3/+31Buried. Tired of Fanboy Flame Wars. Sit down. Shut up. Just Play.
- alihaq717, on 08/10/2008, -55/+81I think it's pretty obvious, in terms of sales, that Nintendo is the big winner this generation.
- nixpix66, on 08/10/2008, -13/+39I have played all the consoles for a ton of time.... and I have to say...
Wii: Where are the games? sure it was nice to play Galaxy, and Zelda.... when the system first came out! But after time went by, I soon realized that the only games being released for it are gimmicky type games. Oh, and the online might as well not be there... But every once in a while, I will play it because, ya know, sometimes a fun short gimmicky game is what you need.
PS3: In the beginning the PS3 was doing horrible... But it has bounced back. I'll be honest with you, this surprised me greatly. I wasn't expecting the PS3 to recover. Sony keeps on promising big titles, such as Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, and Resistance 2....
Now I would be excited, but the games they release, keep on getting out done, by (dare I say it) The 360. Every game I've played on the PS3 has a better type of game on the 360, or has the exact same game on the 360. Now mind you, I have played the exclusives, and they are fun. Some of them very fun, (Ratchet and Clank). But the 360 just has better games. I'm still hoping that the eventually I will be convinced that this console is amazing. Oh and MGS4 was over rated.
360: This console was the first to come out, and it shows. The 360 has the RRoD. This isn't good, as all of my friends' consoles have bricked, but mine. But Microsoft has recognized this problem, and has a free repair service. Now, (fan boys please don't kill me.), I think that the 360 has the strongest line-up of games. And they keep on outdoing the other consoles by releasing better versions of things already out on other consoles. Really, I believe that the 360 is winning. - apothekari, on 08/10/2008, -2/+27I agree the article is very poorly written.
Run-on sentences and a poor "point" making ability, It's like it was written by a 13 year old kid. - scabbers, on 08/11/2008, -3/+26PS3 a glorified PS2? What the hell is he talking about? It doesn't even do that anymore - they took it away.
- kjones555, on 08/11/2008, -7/+29I'm digging him down because though their system is selling like crazy, it's just collecting dust on everyone's console because the games, for the most part, suck. Games make the system, not sales.
- Rikkochet, on 08/11/2008, -1/+20A Women, you say?
- Elranzer, on 08/11/2008, -11/+30The odd thing is that Nintendo cares more about the GAME aspect of videogames whereas Sony and Microsoft focus more on the VIDEO aspect of video games.
- SuburbianMike, on 08/11/2008, -1/+20Video Games. Serious Business.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -7/+24I agree with the sentiment from the article, but they didn't make a very compelling argument as to who is 'winning' the console war or why no one is, to be more precise.
I'm happy with my PS3, although it'd be nice to have a Wii (Smash Bros.) and a 360 (Bioshock, although that's a problem to be remedied soon...) frankly, the existence of a stalemate is a good thing, because it allows for the companies to find more niches to explore and areas to develop. Maybe Nintendo will have the casual market cornered, which will force Microsoft to focus on becoming the experts for online play while Sony gets their act together and finds out what the hell it is supposed to be doing. Perhaps trying to appeal to the 'hardcore gamer' demo. Then again, the idea of the PS3 going 'told u i was hardcore' isn't exactly endearing...
Gamers should be happy as all hell with what's going on, not fighting over whose system is 'better.' ***** off with that noise. - macapplejobs, on 08/11/2008, -1/+16What is this obsession with war? Let's have a "console peace" and just enjoy the fact that there have been many high quality games for all the systems.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -5/+20I hate my useless dusty old nintendo Wii.
Yet the Wii is in the lead with sales. - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+16I assume you don't have many friends over then? That's really the whole idea of the Wii.
- NecroSexy, on 08/11/2008, -0/+14Everyone's a winner!
- LeetPwned, on 08/10/2008, -1/+15The writer is a Women not a guy.
http://gametopius.com/index.php/about/adelle-bio - Ouze, on 08/11/2008, -3/+16As a Nintendo Wii owner, I'm none to pleased with the collection of ***** they shovel out the door month in and month out. IMO, the best game for the Wii that makes the best use of the motion controls is still the free one that came with the system - and that's a problem
- Managua8Green, on 08/11/2008, -8/+21even worse!
- UNDERSTAR, on 08/11/2008, -0/+13Peter Griffin - "Shallow & Pedantic"
- NinjaBull, on 08/10/2008, -3/+16Definitely. Short, boring and rather pointless article.
- ZenMojo, on 08/11/2008, -0/+12I think it's clear that this generation the DS is the clear winner. It's a game system and it sold more than anything else this generation. Frankly, I'm tired of arbitrary criteria determining the success of a system and its generation.
- UNDERSTAR, on 08/11/2008, -4/+16OK, FAP! FAP! FAP! FAP! FAP!
- 30thElement, on 08/11/2008, -1/+12Because no one cares.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -0/+10I can't agree with this more. Most of my friends who have the Wii never turn them on unless there's company over.
- Bozmanbeyond, on 08/11/2008, -0/+9I am in the same boat when it comes to the consoles. The Wii sits collecting dust, my PS3 only plays Blue Rays and old PS2 games and unfortunately the games that have played were one time plays only because I found no incentive to go back through them. As for my 360 I'm playing more it more due to the fact of on-line, also because everyone I know owns one. I also find more replay value due to the fact of the achievement system.
As for the future of these consoles the Wii has some good games coming out soon, Fatal Frame IV, Castlevania, Lightsaber Duels, No More Heroes 2 and MadWorld. For PS3 Home, LBP, RFOM 2 and GOW 3. As for the 360 its strong in the US but slow in the world and has some notable games Fable 2, Gears 2, and Halo Wars, So no one has won the race yet.
In my opinion if a system can sell but not give us games its not a winner. I agree we need better games that push the envelope. - Velnich, on 08/11/2008, -2/+11I wont claim the 360 is winning the "war", but it certainly isn't losing. I'm inclined to agree with the author.
- proghead, on 08/11/2008, -2/+11What a ***** *****. ^
- Charlotte_Web, on 08/11/2008, -2/+11Doesn't matter -- the point is, Nintendo is willing to experiment in the marketplace. They've had some hits and misses. Virtual Boy was a flop; the Wii was a home run.
To Sony and Microsoft, innovation means cranking up the CPU and the GPU. - Charlotte_Web, on 08/11/2008, -3/+12Look at their history; the Wii is not an unusual product for them. Nintendo has always experimented with radical console controllers and add-ons.
They were the first (only?) to ship a light gun with the console:

Whereas Sony, Microsoft, and (formerly) Sega have always focused very narrowly on their console experience, Nintendo has always shown a willingness to think outside the box. - OneNerdyGirl, on 08/10/2008, -4/+13Hey Leet thanks for pointing out that I am indeed a girl. And I totally feel like if I had to pick one console I would feel totally different about this issue. However due to some luck and someone I know working at a store that sells used game equipment I picked up all 3 systems at a way discount price. That said I also do work a full time job and bust my butt to pay for them. But personally, if I could pick only one console I would feel jipped.
- FoxOrian, on 08/11/2008, -0/+8The people who have dugg you down either disagree and thought it WAS a well written compelling argument, or are uncomfortable with the fact you're actually happy with your PS3.
Anyway, I agree with you completely -- what's happening right now can cause some serious improvements for things to come. If people ask me what I think of this generation, I'd actually tell them I'm impressed by each company individually, not "impressed by one and pissed at the others". It's interesting to watch the advancements of the consoles over the past year or two now. Just looking at the way the firmwares have been updated, the PS3 and PSP are powerhouses today compared to the original features of the 1.0 releases. [Though it did also lose its hardware PS2 compatibility......] I remember when I first got my 360, how the dashboard was rather void of activity, then through evolution became a great tool to find content -- now the new design is coming this fall and I think it will raise the value and experience of the system more. The Wii --- .. I can't speak quite as much for the wii right now -- I mean, it did get a decent internet browser, and... a clock on the home screen!
Still, I'm actually dying to find out what we're going to have in four or so years when these consoles have really hit their highest points in their developmental cycle. - bjornski, on 08/11/2008, -1/+9@Kanten
"Nintendo has always shown a willingness to think outside the box."
Except most of those items listed were tacky fads that didn't even work correctly.
----------------
Don't you see how that proves his point entirely? And if some of those fads had caught on, they'd have been developed and licensed far beyond what they were.
Nintendo takes risks. Some of them pay off HUGE. - Ouze, on 08/11/2008, -2/+10no one is interested in your vagina, attention whore
- Pinkshisno, on 08/11/2008, -1/+9I don't have a dusty Wii. I clean my consoles. But seriously I'm not disappointed with the Wii yet, besides wanting a better online. The Wii has the best version of PES this generation and the 1st party games have delivered. That doesn't mean I don't want a PS3 or an 360 because they all have awesome games.
In other words, forget this "war" and play with the consoles you want without dissing the rest. - werries, on 08/11/2008, -5/+13shut. the. *****. up. fanboy.
1. Xbox Live barely ever lags.
2. 8 and 16 are maxed there not because of its how much it can handle, but because thats what the games and maps were designed to use, small squad gameplay.
3. $50 a year is almost nothing.
Not to mention the support with Windows Live and Messenger, along with the friends system, marketplace, etc.
How about you use it before you babble your nonsense. - NathanielJ, on 08/11/2008, -1/+9NO U
- OneNerdyGirl, on 08/11/2008, -1/+9Sadly no I don't have too many people over. I work too much to have people over often. But its interesting to point that out as a selling point for the Wii. Its true its a console to play with people, but it makes me as a long time gamer kinda sad that it doesn't get used often because I don't always have time to get people over to play.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -9/+17Wii will lead in sales, but the 360 will come in close second due to good new content coming up and the Wii's not-so-bright looking future what with the new appeal to "casual" gamers. PS3 will remain on the bottom with less than half of the 360's sales.
I'm putting my $5 down. - Cenobia, on 08/11/2008, -0/+7I like it, but it only gets harder. If you don't like the demo levels then you won't like the game. It gets extremely frustrating near the end (the last level is pissing me off).
You do get better/faster as you play, and co-op is really fun, but it's not something everyone will like. - JakeSN, on 08/11/2008, -1/+8Your comment is very difficult to read.
- seraph582, on 08/11/2008, -3/+10What in tarnation are you talking about? The PS3 is getting slaughtered by the PS2 per month in sales still. The 360 has beaten both the PS2 and PS3 month after month after month in sales. You are ***** retarded. vgchartz.com
- yvonna, on 08/11/2008, -0/+7well said
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -1/+7@Elranzer: I think that's why just a few Wii games *actually* sell. And most of them (if not all) are just from Nintendo. It's the GC thing all over again with a much bigger market share.
