- steven401, on 10/12/2007, -7/+59I don't mean to burst your bubble but i'm pretty sure it's still DX9.
- xxTazxx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Nvidia sell cars as well? Niiiiice.

- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Ooh, moral principles. Well aren't you something.

DX9, but with "performance benefits" for gamers running it on DX10 cards. - InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16There's EB employee training at work for you.
- atienza2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19I totally want to buy this.....but it requires VISTA, so it will have to wait. Who else feels the same way?
- purple, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Either you work at EB games, and are a dumbass, or you don't work at EB games, and are a dumbass.
The game isn't for sale yet. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15It probably won't 'require' vista for long. Fortunately.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I am just waiting for the piratebay to announce it has gone gold.
- Bartboy919, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14I will say two words to brighten your day: kernel Hack
- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10If they made it specially require 9.0L in Vista, it could be a little tricky, like getting a DirectX 9.0c game to run on 9.0b. I wouldn't count too much on a fast hack, but they'll probably get it eventually.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You do make a good point in that I don't know why PC gamers would be excited about Halo. FPS games are really behind on consoles, since they really don't belong on consoles. Halo is a decent console game. But PC gamers are used to way better games. If you want Halo, you should pick it up for the 360. If you don't have a 360, save your money for a better PC game.
- johnny23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Exactly. This game is a big deal for the console crowd, but this is a mediocre title in a sea of top notch FPS in the PC world.
- mrferg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9What the hell?? It ran on the original Xbox! All you need to run it should be a 1ghz Athlon, 256mb ram, a ti4200, and Windows 98. Pure greed Microsoft, for shame.
- Trigga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How can someone be happy with this. We are getting a game that is from 2004, also its a game that is not even that special, there has been better gameplay and story line games on the pc. The only reason halo is good on a console is because it was the first shooter that plays good on a console.
The game is now outdated, the only reason that this game may actualy sell is because of the hype.
Also why did they spend 3 freking years on making a port, i rather love to see them spend the people and cash on making halo 3 cross platform, a mix between pc and xbox where you can play online xbox against pc gamers. That would be a big hit, even a reason for many to buy vista to play the game. - DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I'm not impressed. Microsoft is just trying to get people to buy Vista by forcing Bungie to release this exclusively when it would definitely work on XP. They must think gamers are stupid; who do they think they're kidding? The smart ones will hack it anyway, so they're basically losing a large cash source while gaining a smaller one.
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8nyrol2,
I don't think Windows is the best, nor has it really ever been thought of as such, but it isn't a horrible train wreck that many people make it out to be, for sure. It's a very good OS... Although these days it's more down to what you're looking for in a computer.
Linux allows you to tweak and touch up whatever you want, assuming you'll spend the time getting it running.
OS X will do if you like a clean interface, the Mac hardware, and such.
Windows is easy to get along with, and allows you to play your games.
They all do what the other does in different areas, some do it better and some do it worse. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Cheaper Academic Upgrade version ftw? Then it's like $10 more and you get a pretty case...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5correction: NVIDIA isn't ready for Vista gamers yet.
After this complete failure by Nvidia, I will think twice before buying another of their video cards. Why have ATI's drivers been fine and constantly updated, yet Nvidia gets to throw us a bone (broken driver) every now and then. - Thio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11meh
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That might work if you want it to run @ 480i resolutions. Something tells me you're going to want higher resolutions than that, and thus higher resolution textures and better effects to compensate.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I'm confused, I liked Halo the original but thought Halo 2 was totally overated. Is this the same game coming out for Vista?? Why is anyone excited about this, I can think of a dozen better first person shooters.
- Juntistik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Who the ***** preorders PC games? better yet, who buys PC games at EB?
- JaySherman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And real idiots make comments like that (Ok just 1 comment, but it was more than enough)
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I want that nVidia car...
- thrallie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10usenet ftw
Also don't worry, there will be a crack making it Windows XP compatible. The hackers are amazing. - Trevino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5IMO it's the special combination of grenades, melees, and weapons that no other game has. The campaigns in and of themselves are not that amazing (Halo 2's sucked);the multilayer is where its at.
- Quag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Products can go gold in terms of units "shipped" to distributors as well.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The Campaign was completely disappointing. Playing as the Arbiter, especially during the last level of the game, kind of made it not as entertaining. Then there were the cutscenes which were marred by the glitchy textures popping in and out. I would've much rather dealt with a loading screen than having the level of detail change constantly during the cutscenes. The multiplayer is where it's at though. Halo 2 on XBL kicks ass. If that feeling transfers over to Vista, it should be even better, especially since you'll see more maps coming out.
- JayRD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Making it Vista only is financial suicide in my eyes.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Crackdown is fun for a few hours, but it's also shoddy and short. Definitely not a system seller.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@MioTheGreat
Exactly. It's just that most of the people talking about how it will be hacked seem to think that the only thing that makes it Vista-only is that the game will check and see if it's running on Vista, which won't be the case. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I might buy it.
- MackDiesel2010, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I bet you can will them into becoming a greener, more consumer-friendly corporation.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Halo 2 isn't DX10.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The resoulution is a good point, but mostly it will be because :
1 - I assume they will want to make the graphics shinier than the Xbox version
2 - (most importantly) The Xbox is a very specific piece of hardware, and the game developers know exactly what hardware they have to write the game's engine for. With the PC you have to make it work on a huge range of any combination of PC parts. The proof of this I suppose would be the end of Halo 1, the graphics aren't as good as the second game, but at parts in the last level, the Xbox starts to slow down, the second game, even on the exact same machine, the graphics are better, the levels are bigger/more complex, but it runs just as well, if not better. - djfreex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I tried it over and over again. I just cant see what the big deal about Halo is. As a PC Gamer, it just does not feel any different than your average FPS.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Halo was one of the first console-FPS I played, which probably biases me towards it a bit, but still - Halo was damn near perfectly balanced (particularly noticeable in the multiplayer), the storyline while not hugely original was well done, and I liked the atmosphere and level design.
I really don't see why people dislike Halo so much, yet there still be so much praise for Gears of War, which is far more of a generic shooter in a long line of other console shooters (There's been a *lot* of FPS's made between when Halo was released and someone decided to make another one called "Gears of War" for the Xbox360) - Halo atleast had the argument that it was made in 2001, and among other things, has drivable vehicles (Which is something that only became popular fairly recently, and even still no game has used them as well as Halo did, in my opinion)
Today I suppose Halo maybe is a somewhat outdated, it was made ~6 years ago, and given that graphics in games seems to become outdated every month when a newer shinier graphics card is released, it's hardly surprising that the game isn't as impressive as when it was originally released. That said, I was playing Halo not long ago and I still enjoyed it. - StrangeFamous, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11"One day, she will be mine. Oh yes... she will be mine."
That is... once I get Vista. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4ATI car
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1180152 - BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Hmm... I am a PC gamer and a mostly a single player one too and looked down on all the Halo fanboys and ridiculed the whole console FPS thing, until I had a chance to play Halo on my PC. I ended up loving the single player campaign for various reasons. He are some of them, in no particular order:
1) Great characters, including the MC.
2) Great and wondrous sci-fi settings
3) Fun vehicles to operate
4) Great enemy AI
5) Fun, dynamic combat
6) Great grenade effects
7) Nice selection of weird weapons
8) Big battles involving the NPCs
9) Freaky, unstoppable enemies (The Flood)
10) Beautiful urgency and wonder inspiring music.
11) Good plot that doesn't take things too seriously and includes quite a bit of comic relief.
I played Halo 2 on my 360. I liked it a lot as well, but as as much. I am still looking forwards to playing it again on my PC though. - axwel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If someone could answer this question, are the 360 ( and original xbox ) users going to be playing online with pc users?
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"and if you cant wait that long then get a life"
More importantly - if you can't wait a week for someone to make it run on XP, how have you waited the ~year since it's been out on the first Xbox without giving up and buying one..? - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My review copy is on its way (should be here soon) but word on the street is that this is one 'fugly' game - PC Gamer podcast talks about how the graphics look like "pre-Quake 3". What a great game to use for the Vista/GFW launch if this is true. /sarcasm
I guess I'll find out once it arrives but I'm not expecting much. PC Gamers have a lot of strong FPS titles to choose from - Halo 2 will have to do a lot to win them over. - xxNIRVANAxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's not DX10, it's DX9, but has some enhancements for DX10 cards.
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It comes from the way they send games to the manufacturer - they burn it to a gold master disk that will be copied and stamped at the factory
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've never seen anything that suggests it has DX10 enhancements unless you take enhancements to mean improved performance. The article I linked to states that it might have performance improvements on DX10 cards, which is pretty obvious when you look at benchmarks of the 8800 series running DX9 games.
- Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Totally agree with Ahnteis, well said. Ignore the Digg-tards who dugg you down, like the first chump responder - he clearly doesn't have a clue. Why on earth would ANYONE be keen on this title? Not most PC gamers that much is for certain.
